This place reminds me of what Starbucks probably felt like in its nascent stage, but if Starbucks had a real soul. In fact, no, Starbucks couldn't dare compare to The Gallery Espresso. To think that a place this chic, this sublime, could grow from the blight of a state staunchly conservative in the deep south, when Starbucks popped up in Seattle, which is practically the liberal capitol of the world. Then, saunter over to the bench where Tom Hanks referenced boxes of chocolate and such, and realize that there is the one area of life you could best America's favorite over-achiever: taste! read more

If you know me, you know I love Starbucks. We happened to be Chippewa Square in Savannah and it starred to drizzle. So we ducked this little gem of a spot. It literally made my heart sing. I think I could've just sat down and stayed there all day. It's so quaint. The decor is like the Friends coffee shop. Old couches, mix matched chairs and tables. I just loved the vibe. We ordered an iced latte and an iced coffee, chicken salad on a croissant. Everything was delicious. Total was $16.00. These were tall sized drinks, not venti. So I think the price was a little high. Didn't mind at all. I will be back there for sure!!!! They sell these adorable tea kettles and brightly colored coffee presses. Was looking for a cute dine in coffee shop to work on a Friday morning and found this little gem. Food and drink options were good, from cold drinks, coffee to even a nice wine selections. There is a $5 minimum when I comes to playing with card but I got a delicious macadamia cookie with my coffee so I can't complain. However I was literally standing In Front of them and they couldn't give a shit. I felt like an unwanted guest at someone's house. I wasn't greeted, my barista interrupted my order to literally continue a personal conversation. Once I finished the order he stood talking not taking my card or putting in the order...He got both my drinks wrong. One was in my favor- he gave me a large instead of a small. But with the Italian creme soda- he over filled the drink to the brim before adding all the flavorings and asked me to drink off the top so he could add the cream... I grabbed a straw and did so. He poured the creme and said oops! "That's probably too much creme! It's easy to over power the butterscotch." Then handed me my botched $5 dollar drink. I sipped it before I left the counter and said ok I taste the butterscotch. I've never had this drink before so I just accepted i t. That all was very strange. This is a great place to be, right off of Chippewa Square after you show your tourists around town, or more accurately around the Forest Gump square! My mom had a Turkish coffee and I had a white chocolate cappuccino. We enjoyed both our drinks, although this wasn't the most perfect Turkish coffee she's ever had, but it's cool that a little coffee shop in Savannah does offer this. We really enjoyed the comfy vibe of this spot, grabbing a seat on a set of lounge chairs - although I'm not sure that's the correct name for them. read more

Stopped by on a whim after dinner at Six Pence Pub (also worth checking out) because the cafe looked so inviting in the rainy evening. Very welcoming and cozy, laid back and clearly a local favorite. The staff were very friendly, and efficient. Cappuccino was delicious, and wonderful to sit at a window table and enjoy the view of Chippewa square in the rain with the moss catching the streetlights. read more

In theory cute spot. In reality not cute. Unfortunately their espresso machine was down for 3 days (I went back a few times because I wanted to give them a try). Their iced coffee was a super dark roast that also tasted watered down. Their quiche was not salted which was nice in a sense because then you could taste all of the stuffings...but then the crust had too much sugar so it tasted like a slightly sweet quiche with no salt. I liked the crust on its own though- the sweetness made a good shortbread. Also, the staff and person who I presume was the owner were like mehhh. We stopped in here for a quick coffee pick me up after a long day of walking and we enjoyed the cozy laid back environment. Plenty of sofas and lounge chairs around to settle in and enjoy your coffee for a bit. Right off of Chippewa Square where they filmed Forrest Gump so you can take some pics, possibly bump in to Mr. Gump who has been know to frequent these parts and get yourself a nice cup of joe. Gallery Espresso also has some selections of iced coffees, regular teas and chai teas as well so their is a little for everyone. Free Wi-Fi is a standard as well so happy surfing as well... I live in Atlanta, but enjoy visiting Savannah for long weekends. My boyfriend and I visited Savannah last weekend and were looking for a place to kill some time prior to our ghost tour at the Sorrel Weed House. We walked down the block and came across The Gallery Espresso. We were immediately charmed by the warm, cozy, quirky atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you could spend hours reading, working, studying, or visiting with friends. There were cute coffee and tea accessories for sale, an abundance of seating, and great people-watching out the window. We asked the barista what types of tea they had and were shocked when he said 80. EIGHTY. All the teas were stored in tins and separated into categories (black tea, green tea, herbal tea, etc.) and customers are encouraged to open the tins and smell the tea. It took us a good ten minutes to choose, as they had so many appealing options. They give you your tea in the coolest little contraption I've ever seen, an Ingenuitea. The tea was some of the best I've ever had, and there was a nice little table with honey, sugar, milk, cream, and other coffee and tea accoutrements you may need. After sitting for about an hour, we decided to take a look at their menu for food and ordered the cheese board. I would 100% recommend you try this out! They seemed a bit surprised when we asked for it, so I gather it's rarely ordered. It came with three types of cheeses, loads of fruit, and incredible bread. The perfect complement to our tea, or a bottle of wine. We enjoyed our time here so much that we came back the next day and ordered more tea and another cheese board. Whether you're looking for a spot to study, somewhere to visit with friends, or a place to unwind while on vacation, I would highly recommend The Gallery Espresso! read more

Tip Added to my credit card without my consent. A friend and I went in and ordered two coffees. We paid and left a tip. As we picked up the coffees we noticed the coffee cake so I ordered a coffee cake and paid I was then offered to choose a $1.00, $2.00 or $3.00 dollar tip. I explained to the cashier that we just left a tip on the first order and I preferred not to leave a tip on this order. the screen did not let me advance so I turned the screen back and told the clerk no tip on this one. I walk away, and I watched the cashier press a button on the screen. At that moment my phone beeped from Bank of America and my $4.82 piece of coffee cake turned up as $7.82 because a three dollar tip was added. I asked the cashier why was I charged it and she said that you must've push the button by accident- I explained to her that I didn't press it and implied that she added it and to please get your manager to fix this. When the manager came out, he avoided eye contact mumbling that you must've pushed it by accident. My husband and I visited this coffee place because it was a short distance from the hotel. We found it dirty, cluttered and with minimal offerings i.e. "we don't have that bagel" even though it's on the list hanging from the cashier stand. My bagel didn't taste fresh and the Nutella topping came in a packet on the side. In addition, the manager/owner? spoke rudely to my husband after he picked up a newspaper that was on a table where no one was seated, saying "that's for my mother". Do yourself a favor and choose another one of Savannah's friendlier options with better, fresher food. read more

We stopped here after lunch, because it was my turn to drive and I needed some fuel for the road and so did my husband. Driving after a good meal is never ideal for me as the food coma always comes on strong, but husband had a beer and we are responsible eaters and drinkers. Plus, that is the thing with Parenting. Little eyes are always watching. Husband found GE and we decided to check it out because it was only a couple of blocks away from our lunch spot. I was pleasantly surprised to find out, it was right by Chippewa Square! Parking - we left our car parked at our lunch spot, but it seemed like only street parking around. What we drank: Husband - Iced Coffee. He said it tasted burnt. Yikes! Yours Truly - I had the Thai Coffee. I feel like the "Thai" part was missing. Squirrel, but kind of related. I find it interesting that here in the US, they call Thai Coffee what I know it as Vietnamese Coffee. I have only always found Vietnamese Coffee in, well, you guessed it, Vietnamese restaurants! However, in the US, it seems that this coffee is becoming pretty trendy and I see it popping up on menus everywhere, even in Starbucks. At the end of the day, I don't really care what it's called, as long as it is made right, am I right? Tomato, Tomatoe or Thai, Vietnamese, as long as we are referring to the same thing, no? This Thai/Viet coffee is usually a strong espresso coffee with sweet condensed milk which is KEY. You can drink it either hot or cold, but my preference is on ice with extra sweet condensed milk. Never had it? You're missing out. I asked for extra milk after I confirmed that their "Thai" Coffee was made with sweet condensed milk. Maybe the barista thought I meant regular milk for the extra milk part. The coffee was watered (or milked in this case) down and I didn't even taste a hint of the distinctive, sweet, creamy condensed milk taste that basically makes the coffee Thai/Viet. Sadly, I walked out with a sad face and drank it anyway, because I needed the dose of caffeine to get my family back home safely. Pricing - It was $10 and some change for our 2 coffees which I think is pretty standard. Service - There were about 3 guys working behind the counter. One was preparing food and one taking drink orders at the cash. Another guy popped out and tended to the line immediately. Our interaction was short. I ordered, asked the question about the milk and he made them. Hello, thank you, goodbye. No problems, nothing that stood out either. Vibe - According to their menu pamphlet, it is the oldest coffee house in Savannah. It definitely has an old, vintage feel with exposed beams in the ceilings and a cracked, tiled floor that has seen better days. It adds to the charm though. The high traffic probably doesn't help. There are mismatched velvet armchairs throughout with plenty of seating space with the walls adorned with local art. There is a showcase at the entrance displaying coffee accessories for sale. In the back, they have other items for sale. My favorite part of the cafe was the copper espresso machine that can be admired from a distance when you order at the counter. Seemed like a lot of people were flying solo that day and a nice to place to lounge around and read a book or get some work done. Kid Friendly - Probably not the best place to bring small kids. Strollers would probably be a hassle. There is not much space between the tables. Better to grab coffee to go and sit at Chippewa Square. Our visit was so quick and short, I feel like I can't give Gallery Espresso (GE) a proper assessment. It is conveniently located hear Chippewa Square after all. Also, they had a wide selection of baked treats so I will need to try those out and maybe I'll just stick to the regular coffee drinks. I will be back! read more

Gallery Espresso is one of my favorite coffee spots to hit up when I'm visiting downtown Savannah. It's very artsy and eclectic inside and has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The drinks are delicious! I've heard great things about their baked goods as well, but trying one is still on my to do list. The employee told me they are all homemade except the bagels (they get those from another local business). This business also adheres to safe covid practices, which I appreciate. read more

Very slow service, especially when one just wants a cup of coffee to go. They took a while to tend to the couple in front of me. They need at least one more staff person to bring out the food, instead of having cashiers doing that too. Why one star? The manager just didn't care to wear a mask. I asked cashier why that "staff person had no mask." "Oh our manager? She might have a health reason." So this staff person excusing her manager is working for someone that simply doesn't care about her employees' health. I left without ordering my coffee. Gallery, is the best place I have ever gone for coffee, their frozen coffee's are so smooth and taste amazing, they have every flavor you can imagine and all out of season! The staff, and service was always to nice, and everyone is so kind! They have amazing cakes, muffins and cookies, and the bagels are so good too! The always have art work form local artists for sale which I think is an amazing addition to the whole experience! This place was a gem! I just happened to walk past it and I saw another customer drinking tea and I immediately to try it. They have a great selection of loose teas and the guy at the resister was very kind to walk me through everything. The tea was excellent that I seriously considered purchasing a tin to bring back home. I also got the lemon raspberry Bundt cake which was out of this world. The vibe was super cozy and I felt like we were in Europe. The only downside was that the people inside (the customers) were not wearing their masks. Had a nice trip to Savannah last month. Hubbie and I were walking the historic district and needed to take a break. Lotsa artwork from local artists hang on the walls of this cute cafe. Too bad no photography of the artwork was allowed. Oh well. We shared the following snack: The Carrot Cake - one of the best I have had. It was moist but not too moist. Loaded with plumpy raisins and shreds of carrots. The cream cheese frosting made it that much more delicious. Just right. I savored every single bite. The Chicken salad sandwich - mmmmm! You know that they made this fresh because it didn't have that old, refrigerated chicken smell. It was nicely dressed with just the right amount of mayo, and crunchiness of celery, onions. I had a Chai Tea - nice, and not too sweet, but full flavor of Chai. Good in all the right ways. Hubbie had his usual, Latte. Oh, and the ladies' room walls were collaged with cool postcards... Obviously a favorite among locals. This hip coffee-tea-wine-dessert-bagel-sandwich/gift shop spot is busy and packed full of coffee and tea selections that's unique and eclectic. They also have shirts and art and gizmos for tourists to purchase. It's got a pretty cool vibe. Most of the patrons and locals grab a beverage and a pastry or sandwich and relax either inside or outside (tables available). The staff is rather friendly despite how busy they were the morning on which I visited. There's tons of yummy looking desserts and goodies to pair with your beverage of choice. It's colorful and lively inside and conveniently located in the heart of downtown Savannah. I ended up purchasing three of their rad Gallery Espresso stickers for my fridge ($0.50 each) and bookmarking this place for the next time I visit Savannah for coffee and dessert. read more

I was very impressed with the coffee here. It was sweet and nutty. I have returned a few times since my first trip and have tried iced and hot coffee. Both were great! The hot coffee is always served HOT - so be careful taking your first sip. They have a variety of syrups for flavoring. The cafe has a lot of really cute kitchenware on display that is for purchase. Things like animal tea pots, French presses, and other carafes. I love it here! read more
