While the brews we ordered were good, the burgers we had were FANTASTIC. Top notch. We upgraded our fries to the dressed option and it was well worth it. The bartender was awesome and gave us samples of beer on tap until we found one we liked. The outdoor patio is nice. The staff was friendly but unfortunately the food is terrible. We ordered a flatbread pizza. The portion was small for a 10.00 pizza. The crust was soggy and the pizza tasted exactly like they had just microwaved it. The mozzarella cheese was not even melted. Not impressed at all. Will not be back on my next visit to Silverton. read more

Wandered in on a warm Saturday night with my parents and husband. We chose outdoor seating, and were promptly attended to. The downside included that they were out of the food my mom wanted, and the beer my dad wanted. However, we very much enjoyed what we did order. Given that I went to high school in Silverton, it was also fun running into a few people I'd known. Pretty easy to catch people walking by from the patio area! My mac n cheese was very filling--I shouldn't have finished it!--but also VERY good. It was jalapeno bacon mac n cheese, and while I like spicy food, I don't like it when "spicy" is the only thing I can taste. They nailed the combo here--left my tongue burning just a little, but I could still taste the rest of the food. I also had a bite of my husband's peanut butter burger. I wasn't a fan, but I don't think that's an indictment of Gallon House--I just don't think I like peanut butter on my beef! My husband was satisfied though. read more

Would give it a 1.5/5 honestly. Food was lukewarm, after waiting for almost an hour for our food, it's almost as they forgot our damn food. The restaurant was half empty, too. I don't understand how it takes that long. Also the elk burger didn't make sense. Who puts a chipotle "aioli" which let's be real it was a spice paste at best. Not even sure how it's possible, but they managed to make my elk patty every type of rarity. How the hell is that even possible? One bites well done, the other rare. Went here for a beer and a to go order. The atmosphere was friendly and people were having a great time! They have a great selection of beers on tap, and I was impressed with the variety of brewery choices. If I'd had my growler, I would have filled it. Our friends who live in a nearby town took us for lunch here in the charming town of Silverton. The hostess explained the service was slow and we didn't have a problem with that. We wanted to move from our table to one right next to us in the sun. As soon as we moved the bartender ran out and told us we weren't allowed to move tables. Literally right after we moved back another group did the exact same thing. Same bartender sees it and walks over but doesn't say a single thing to them. I thought I would give this place a shot for lunch. The service was some of the worst I have had this century. The wait staff seemed as though they were doing us a favor by helping us, unfriendly and inattentive . They had specials but we were not told. I heard the waitress tell a couple other tables. Bill was 43.00 and the waitress said this is all the cash we have and that i had taken all our 1's they had when she handed it to me. I Gave her a 100.00 bill checked when I got home and the change was 47.00. Food was average and would be over priced at average quality. Not many options in Silverton for outdoor seating (which is a must for me in these COVID times) so I was really glad to find this place and was pretty hungry after a hike to Silver Falls State Park. Nice array of menu choices. My friend loved her Buffalo Mac-n-Cheese and I had a yummy rice bowl (so much food that I had leftovers) that the waitress recommended. Service was super friendly and attentive and she even told us how to find the nearby Gallon House covered bridge. Also enjoyed the on-tap blackberry cider. read more

Went here with my dad and boyfriend tonight and was underwhelmed with my food. I ordered the mixed berry salad which was made up of sliced strawberries and tomatoes. I was really hoping that by mixed berries they meant mixed berries not just tomatoes and strawberries. It was also a very small salad especially for the price ($13). I really liked this place. We stopped in and had lunch. Ordered the Gallon burger and upgraded to the onion rings-great call. Freshly made and oh so good. The Gallon Burger was a 1/2 pound fresh ground. burger charbroiled with crisp bacon, cheddar, onion, lettuce, tomato and a fried egg all on a brioche bun. Very tasty. Cute little sidewalk seating area-also inside seating. Friendly staff. I'd go back in a heartbeat. read more

For goodness sakes teach your bartenders how to pour a glass of nitro stout. When you serve it with a 4" head and tell the customer it will settle, it will, into appropriately 2/3 of a glass of beer! Tell the waitress to wait, top it up, and then serve it. Also teach your waitresses the password for your wi-fi. Telling your guests " it must be acting up" when my iPad keeps telling me "incorrect password" is not acceptable. On other fronts, the beer menu is unreadable when you're outside, and, again, the waitress telling me "Yeah, you have to walk around to read it" is also unacceptable. The beer selection is fine, the outside patio is comfortable on a warm evening, the food is nothing to write home about, 3 stars at best, but maybe we were jaded by the lack of effort from the staff, I mean, nobody asked if we would like a second beer after an hour and a half of excruciatingly slow service. What I'm trying to say is, hire yourself a manager who teaches the staff to give a damn! read more

Stopped in Silverton for a late lunch after hiking to the waterfalls. There weren't too many options with nice patios so we were anticipating mediocre food but were very pleasantly surprised. We ordered the chicken wings, egg rolls, gallon burger, and cowboy burger - all highly recommended. The portions were very large, and the food wasn't greasy at all. The cowboy burger with beef and pork is great if you're a carnivore and really hungry. The bill also ended up being super-cheap compared to what we're used to in Portland. read more

If they could step it up in the kitchen then this would be a great place to go in Silverton. It wouldn't take much to do so. Have said ingredients on hand and serve food when it is done instead of leaving it in the window for 10 minutes. My family and I have been coming here for a few years now but I have never had an experience like this last one. It was all because of our waitress, Megan. As soon as we sat down she was there to get our drinks and order, she was on top of our drinks, even made my favorite drink 100x better, and connected with us every time she was at the table. Just walked out of The Gallon House without getting service! Was one of our favorite restaurants until today. Was so excited to have them back open. Got seated right away. Sat at our table for well over 15 min with our menus. Saw more than a half doz staff members at the bar standing around. Made eye contact with several but never got service not even water. Delicious fresh salad, my boyfriend had a burger that was flavorful and cooked perfectly. Very legit burger he said. Which I know means delicious. Portions were giant. This place was absolutely disappointing (and I never give bad reviews). Long wait to be seated, rude bartender, intellectually challenged waitress. Drink orders were messed up, some never made it to the table. When they did, it was because we retrieved them ourselves. Salad also never made it to the table... or silverware, but that's fine because it was fun to wait another 10 minutes for it after the food (finally) arrived. All that could have been forgiven if the food was ok... but it was horrible. You cannot chew through the burger without giant wads of something (fat? cartilage?). It was utterly disgusting. Only days ago, we had a great dining experience somewhere else... This place was just the worst of everything. I will never eat here again in my life. read more

Great atmosphere, nice outside seating area that's in the sun until about 4 in early spring. Unfortunately it wasn't great service. It wasn't busy compared to the staff count. But we stood there in the center of foot traffic a while and eventually even walked up and sat at the bar. At one point a guy asked if we were waiting to be helped and I said yes and still... "cricket's" when the guy who was the bartender finally finished his break we were served. Food was really good. Tap selection is decent, stiff mixed drinks. You get your money's worth for sure. After reading mixed reviews I was surprised I had great service the food was good and we loved the outdoor seating area. It's a nice neighborhood spot to come taste some craft beer try a new brew or two and have some food. the staff was nice and I like the tap list board that has specials and shows you keg levels. We just moved into town close by and this will be one of new walking hot spots. Sweet potato fries were so delicious came out hot and seasoned well. My fish tacos were filling but I had wished it came with side options and not just chips and salsa. My husbands burger was cooked to order and he enjoyed it more with the egg on it. HORRIBLE! Dont waste your time or money. After driving by one night and seeing the outdoor patio we decided that this would have to be somewhere we would try. We couldnt remember the name of it so we just decided to drive into Silverton and give it a go. When we got there, I waited about 3 minutes to even be acknowledged by someone so I could ask if we could sit outside on the patio (the sign says "see a server for outdoor seating"). Mind you, there were less than 20 people in the whole establishment. Once seated we waited about 5 minutes and then a server came and took our order. The menu is extremely small so we already knew what we wanted. We ordered and then didn't hear from our server again. After about 30 minutes, in passing our waitress said she was going to go check on our food. (The table behind us had already received food, ordered more and received that and we were still waiting.) Our waitress never came back to give us the staus of our food order but the cook was taking the garbage out and saw us looking around and assured us our food was coming right out. After about 45 minutes of waiting we finally received our food. My husband and I both got sandwiches with salad. (They offer salad or potato chips as sides) Our sandwiches were extremely small; Each half was only 2 bites and the salad was warm and all bitter greens and about 5 bites. Our waitress avoided us like the plague. I am pretty sure she forgot to put our order in and instead of owning up to it and apologizing she chose to avoid us. it cost $27 for a cider, a RC and 2 sandwiches. RIP OFF!! We will NEVER be going back there and I would suggest anyone else who wants good service and a meal that fills them up to stear clear of this place. read more

I'm going to be brief on this one because it's a bar & grill. So seriously, how complex can it be? It's amazingly clean! The bar staff and servers are positively awesome; really friendly, fast and good natured. They even remember what drinks you like from a previous visit. The hummus was disappointing and really bland. It's Oregon and they can do better with a different supplier for that. Plus the pita was cold and tasteless. I liked the salad of fresh greens, cucumbers and chunky tomatoes with their yummy garlicy Ranch dressing. Veggie burgers are a solid choice for vegetarians with lots of fun fixin's and good fresh bun. Finally, the beer and cider selection is kick *ss! Best of all: free wifi for those of you on the go and in need of a spot to work. They let you work while you eat without side glances. I really like it here and I'll be back. read more

Sadly, we gave Gallon House a second chance. Unfortunately it was with our out of town guests and we we embarrassed by the terrible service and everyone's awful food. It took nearly 45 minutes for the food to arrive. It is worth noting that we were the first lunch patrons, so it wasn't busy at the time. My cubano was dry and so cold the cheese didn't melt. The other food (french dips and burger and sliders) were all dry and cold. No melted cheese and the meats all seemed leftover or something. I'm not sure what was going on. We were not offered any explanation or apology for the slow kitchen, nor did the waiter apologize when my mom asked to have her sliders reheated. GH, you have lost more local customers. We should be your happy base customers. Never again... read more
