The Gastonian staff are some of the most customer service oriented individuals that I have ever met. My husband and I stayed at the Gastonian for 4 nights and we could not have been happier. Our room was phenomenal and ready upon arrival. We had a set of champagne flutes ordered and they were set up at turn-down. The food at the Gastonian is amazing. We didn't have a single morning where we were disappointed with breakfast. The tray service was a nice touch and my husband and I really enjoyed the midday snacks and the desserts in the evening. We stayed in the connecting mansion so it was very quiet. They were making renovations but they didn't inconvenience us at all. One thing to keep in mind however, this building is over 100 years old. If you are wanting modern amenities and elevators, then this is not the place for you. The location was lovely. It is right across from Forsyth Park and an easy walk or Pedicab ride into downtown. We never felt awkward about the times when we would come in late and there was always someone at the front desk if we needed them. Overall, this is a fantastic place to spend a vacation or special occasion. We had a lovely time and cannot wait to go back. read more

Excellent place, staff; easy walk to river and other Downtown sights. Spent one night at this well-appointed B&B. Our room was just perfect with nice furnishings and a modern bath. The staff, particularly Walter, are great. The common rooms in the main house are nice, and they have beverages and treats in the afternoon and evening. Breakfast is very good. Look forward to returning. read more

Beautiful beautiful room and bathroom. I was really surprised how spacious the room and bathroom was. The decor was accented around the beautiful historian home. The staff was great and friendly. They would turn down your beds leaving you a nice late night treat and a card letting you know what the forecast would be the next day. The staff accommodated you with anything you needed. The location was nice too, wasn't too far from Broughton and main attraction area. Everything was within walking distance. I would definitely come stay here again! read more

This inn made my trip to Savannah. I was a lone traveler and felt so welcome in the inn by the staff and the other guests. It is an exceptionally beautiful building, perfectly located in the historic district and close to everything. My room was huge and had a sitting area in addition to the bed. The breakfasts were a very pleasant surprise. They were so tasty and the service was very elegant. The bonus is that there is afternoon tea and hors d'oeuvres and late-night cordials, which makes for a lovely way to socialize. read more

LOVED this place!!! My partner and I were on a road trip and stopped in Savannah. We walked in to take pictures of this gorgeous historic building. The innkeeper was gracious enough to give us a tour. We ended up falling in love and getting a room for the night. BEST decision we made. Friendly service, amazing breakfast, and breathtaking rooms. read more

The raspberry crumble and peanut butter cookies were on point at The Gastonian tonight. Actually...everything has been on point during our stay. The staff is absolutely amazing. The food has been 5 star. The rooms are perfect and enormous. I would recommend this B&B again and again. To everyone at the Gastonian, McKinney 1 and McKinney 2 say Thank You! read more

I stayed here for my wedding, and even though the building and room were absolutely gorgeous, the quality of service made it extremely overpriced and overall disappointing. I left my room on my wedding day at 8:45 a.m. and asked that they make sure to clean it before 1 p.m., as we would be taking "getting ready" photos in there. When I got back, it still hadn't been cleaned, and because the photographer was arriving, all the maid did was "tidy," i.e. make the bed, and didn't actually clean, so when I got back later with my new husband, the place, especially the bathroom, was dirty. Every hotel should clean your room by the time you get back from lunch, regardless if a special request was made or not. We also found that upon check-in, two brand new towels that were still folded had stains on them (probably makeup). Furthermore, the toilet stopped flushing at about 3:30 and my bridesmaids all had to use it, one right after the other, in order to get to the ceremony in time. I came back at 4:15 to find all that they had left behind and that the staff still hadn't fixed it yet. Finally, the one blonde woman who works at reception is pretty rude. I was standing in a wedding veil and dress, holding a bouquet, trying to rush out and get to my ceremony, and she made me wait to give her my key, which takes two seconds, until she was done entering in information into the computer. I hoped that for a bridal suite and wedding night hotel I would have gotten some kind of special treatment, but instead we weren't even given adequate service. Way too overpriced. I wouldn't count on this inn if you are a bride looking to get married in the area. Finally, the hotel was made aware that I would be using the room both to get ready for my ceremony and for my wedding night when I toured the property one year before my wedding date, when I booked the room over the phone nine months before my wedding date, and upon my check-in. They were made aware several times with ample advance notice. I've written to the hotel manager on two occasions since and have never received a personal reply. read more

We had a wonderful visit at the Gastonian for our honeymoon. We stayed in The beautiful General Hunter room, which was very spacious and beautifully decorated. The only downside was the (lack of) view and water pressure. Service was great, including silver tray coffee delivered to our room one afternoon. Breakfast was delicious, although not overly creative--basically the same variety of options both days. That being said, everything was delicious. We didn't get to enjoy social hour or evening coffee due to dinner reservations but hope to during our next visit. We will probably stay here again next year for our anniversary, although we may try a different room with a view. read more

The room and building were beautiful! The breakfast was so yummy and the chefs made everything perfectly as we requested! Breakfast was even delivered to our room. My wife and I stayed at The Gastonian for our honeymoon. We stayed at the hotel for roughly a week. The hotel is beautiful and well-maintained. The staff there were all very friendly and extremely helpful. They always seemed genuinely happy to see you and always asked if there was anything you needed. The room we stayed in was clean, everything seemed to be in good repair. The Gastonian offers breakfast each morning, cocktails in the early evening and dessert later in the evening. We ate breakfast at the hotel every day we stayed there - it was delicious each morning. Their honey biscuits are very good. Each night you are there, they will leave a menu for you to choose from a list of options what you'd like for breakfast the next morning. Build your own omelettes are standard every day, should you not like the other options. The hotel is located near Forsythe Park and is about a mile walk from River Street. We were able to walk everywhere in Savannah that we wanted to go from our hotel. We were very happy with our stay at the Gastonian and would choose the again, if we end up in Savannah again. read more

First timers ever at a B&B. We arrived a little early, about an hour and a half. Unable to check in early, check in was a 3 pm. That's ok. I had reserved the Eli Whitney room with the upgraded champagne and strawberries and keepsake flutes, all awaiting our arrival. This was to be a surprise for the hubby. Got in the room, nothing awaiting our arrival, no champagne, no strawberries, or glasses. So, I went downstairs discreetly to ask about them and was told they had no record of the upgrade, which I had already pre-paid for. I went back upstairs and had to locate my receipt proving payment and had to explain to hubby what had happened. I went back downstairs to show my receipt and was told oh, I found your upgrade, when do you want it? I was like, I wanted it in my room awaiting our arrival, like I expected, instead, a big disappointment. By this time I didn't want it, surprise was ruined. I Didn't feel like my issue was an issue at all to them. They finally got put in our room while we were out for the evening, didn't even want them that late. Other that that, we had a good time. Clean rooms, friendly wait staff, no complaints with that. Didn't get to stay as long as had planned due to impending weather. I know it seems silly to some to stress over an issue of not having a welcoming champagne treat but it is for me. I don't really buy extras like this but was trying to do something romantic which got totally ruined, I honestly felt like crying. read more

This place is great. Southern charm and hospitality are on display here. I would give it 5 stars but for the following: there was a long wait for check in,the hot water seemed to run out and it's a little farther from the center of town than I would have liked. Still,it's a very nice place to stay. read more

Assuming what should have been a five-star review, minus two stars for the room condition, plus one for the staff. We stayed in the Caracalla Honeymoon Suite. It is a grand and unique room, but it wasn't in the tip-top condition I expect from the flagship room at a 4-diamond hotel. The door to the bathroom didn't close, the moulding over the the bathtub was falling off, the gas fireplaces need updating (was like lighting a gas grill with a match - make sure you stand back), the tub wasn't pristine, and a minor annoyance: despite having a dimmer on the light switch, the lights didn't dim. The staff and front desk was exceedingly helpful and polite, and the breakfast was great. read more

Where do I begin........ Well.....there are no words to describe how I felt here at the Gastonian.....let's just say, today is my first day back home, and I miss this B & B sooo much. This house, is absolutely beautiful, so charming and historic. The decor is beautiful and the staff is beyond amazing. Kitchen Chef's are superb!!!!! Mario, James, Ron and Walter.....I love them all, and in just a few short days, I felt like they were my family....I really do miss them....so polite, considerate and caring...not to mention.... They can cook!!!! They made our stay, that much better. The innkeepers, Fallon and Carol, were so charming, hospitable, friendly and kind.....I couldn't ask for better customer service.....I would definitely go back to this B&B, if only just to see all these guys!!!! They truly were amazing, never experienced customer service to this degree..... I wish I could give it more stars.....this deserves the whole universe!!!! Gastonisn staff, if you read this review....I'm sending all of you big hugs and kisses from your friend Michele...here in L.A..... Miss you guys!!!! read more

I wish I could give The Gastonian more then 5 stars! If you are looking for Southern Hospitality you must stay here! The accomodations are clean and beautful. The concierge is extremely pleasant and helpful. The breakfast is cooked to order with waiter service and is excellent. There is an appetizer/wine event daily in the evening, as well as a seperate dessert/coffee nightly. In the main room there is a wonderful book with pictures and menus of local restaurants. There are a lot of stairs in the Inn but the concierge is more then helpful. Each room has a working fireplace and the turn down service was welcomed. Our stay in Savannah was exceptional! I would love to return and I would most definetely stay at The Gastonian. If they'd let me completely move in, I probably would have just stayed! The price is extremely reasonable once you see all that is included once your there! read more

My husband and I came here on our Babymoon during President's Day weekend. It was absolutely wonderful! Our king size bed provided the best night's sleep (which says a lot since I was 8 months pregnant at the time). The spa-like tube was also so deep that my entire belly could be covered with water. They provided your choice of breakfast each morning, afternoon tea and desserts at night. They would even save you the desserts if you weren't going to be there in time. All of the staff were courteous and generous the entire time. They gave us food and tourist site advice, which helped and ordered us cabs whenever needed. It is in the historic district, not downtown so it is very quiet and relaxing. We thought parking would be worse. We had to park on the street and move the car once because of street cleaning, but we walked everywhere else. This is not the party type of place, but is perfect for a romantic getaway. I would love to go back! read more

We had been here 11 years ago and our comments would have mirrored the 5 star reviews currently posted. What a great place. I was worried about staying here because when you look at the map of Savannah, it seems like the Gastonian is on the outskirts of town. My assumption couldn't have been more off base. Granted, it's not as close to the water as some other places to stay, but for me that was one of the positives. The waterfront is touristy and tacky. The Gastonian is in a beautiful neighborhood that we got to walk through every night on our way home. The food at the Gastonian was another real plus. Every morning, afternoon and night food was served...and not wine, grapes and cheese, but homemade gastronomic delights. Our room had real character and the grounds were beautiful. Highly recommend. read more

Our first trip to Savannah and we are staying at the Gastonian. It is a beautiful home. The accommodations are very comfortable and beautiful. We are within walking distance of the waterfront, shopping and so many wonderful restaurants. We met a couple who have stayed here 8 times and keep coming back for the accommodations, staff, and proximity to some of the most beautiful city squares. If your planning a trip, I highly recommend this beautiful hotel. Enjoy Savannah! read more

Completely loved this place. Bed was comfortable- which is amazing in of itself. I feel like every other place I've stayed has had an old, uncomfortable bed. So this was great. I slept well. We slept in one of the ground level rooms, it was a nest stay. Everything was clean. Staff were nice. I felt bad for the cleaning ladies- we napped every time they tried to come clean. So that was annoying of both sides I'm sure, lol. And we never had turndown service because again, we rested before going to supper, so the poor man couldn't provide that service. Well, two of the nights he could have, but the first three we were in there, so that's fine. Breakfast was great. I got onto the staff for not having sweet tea! Lol, it's the South, c'mon now! Loved the afternoon wine and snacks, it was a great chance to talk to others. Loved having dessert to come home to after a busy evening. Great experience here. read more

What an incredible place! My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and the staff made this an exceptional experience. The food was so uniquely prepared, and the attention to detail was evident in their consistency in providing a quality experience. I honestly believe they are the best bed and breakfast we have ever stayed at. The Gastonian is close to so many attractions, and with the very walkable, historical streets one can easily get to any of the restaurants, parks, and nightlife that Savannah is known for. We can't wait to come back again, but in the meantime, you should go see it for yourself!! read more

Stayed here in late summer this year. Walter was great! All of the staff were attentive and could not have been nicer. The old building is renovated to accommodate modern expectations, but still has the cool creaks in the floors and charm of days of old. Could picture the older times and history while walking through this inn. Gas burning lamps on the streets, Mrs. Wilkes' fried chicken the-BEST-fried-chicken-ever!!!, the Trolley tour, lots of hip restaurants, SCAD, tours of the famous old homes and museums. Scrumptious breakfast made to order and evening treats after a long day of walking to welcome us "home"...well it sure felt like home! Southern hospitality at its absolute finest at the Gastonian....a MUST try. Thank you all for your kindness and effort. read more

We stayed 2 nights here on a road trip to Florida for a wedding. The inn was wonderful. We had a nice large room with a private entrance. The staff is wonderful and always there if you need anything day or night. Breakfast were great and very filling so we did not need lunches. We had help from their huge book of menus to find places to eat dinner during pre-dinner wine. Desserts were great as well. I did cheat a bit the first night as I have a wheat sensitivity but the cake looked amazing. The second night I didn't want to push my luck and they made gluten/wheat free peanut butter cups so I had that and it was amazing! Next time we are in Savannah I would stay here again. read more

There are not enough words for me to talk about how great my experience was here. This was my first time to Savannah and my first time ever staying in a bed and breakfast. WOW says it best. Alexis stands out the most because she worked all the evenings so spend a lot of time talking with her, her attitude and personality is second to none, they are blessed to have her as an employee. I wish I could remember everyones name but sorry, but everyone was totally amazing. I cannot say enough about this place but promise I will highly recommend it and will definitely be back. My husband and I were married in Savannah, GA this past April of 2014 and before that we really wanted to enjoy a stay in a historic bed and breakfast for the weekend after our wedding. The Cons: At the that time we had been shown various rooms and suites and had decided upon the Juliette Low room with the private balcony and the claw footed tub, which we were very excited about. We LOVE claw footed tubs. We had made the reservation up to 8 months in advance. When the weekend finally arrived for our wedding I went to check into our room. However instead of being taken to the room I had originally reserved I was taken to a room outside of the building on street level. It had a King sized bed a modern bath with jetted tub. It was a nice room but it wasn't what we had originally reserved. When I asked about why we were in this room and not the one we had reserved back in September I was told there had been a previous reservation on it. This confused me, there was no discussion of this when I had first made the reservation before and since then I had received no call or update about the change to my reservation. I was told we were "upgraded" to this king room. To be honest though it didn't really feel like an upgrade. The room is outside of the house on street level and it made us feel isolated from the rest of the building. It was also located directly under the kitchen and main living room of the house so at around 5:30 in the morning we would wake up to all the upstairs traffic for preparing breakfast. For my husband and I this was not really what we wanted, the bed was too big for us and we had had our hearts set on a less modern room and bath. We wondered if the room we wanted had been given to one of the parties actually hosting their wedding at the Gastonian itself. Either way I was really upset that no one had communicated this change in our reservation until the day we showed up for it. The Pros: The staff were very nice and courteous to us and of the breakfasts were delicious. We choose to have breakfast in bed the Sunday morning after our wedding night. The food was delicious and it was nice to have that option offered to us. The night before when we went up to the concierge desk to make that request (in full wedding attire) the woman on duty also gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne as a congratulations to us. I was very moved by this as my husband and I did not really get to enjoy any at our own wedding. The breakfast we had in the kitchen Monday morning, right before our check out, was also very enjoyable. We had the opportunity to meet and talk with some of the other guests staying there and it was very enjoyable. I wish we had had more opportunities to do so but the placement of our room and some of the stresses of the wedding itself unfortunately kept us from enjoying some of these social activities. Conclusion: Would I stay here again? Maybe, I think if we had the room we had originally reserved it would of been more enjoyable. However the "upgrade" we got lacked the original charm we enjoyed and I was unable to sleep well due to all the foot traffic in the mornings above us. It is an older house and creaks are to be expected but we were located under one of the busiest parts of the house. I would probably give this bed and breakfast another stay but with a different room, one actually within the building than on the outside of it. read more

My husband and I stayed at The Gastonian on way back to Michigan from the Florida Keys. Our room was amazing! It was located on the bottom floor where the old kitchen used to be. The bed was enormous and the fireplace was an added bonus to the beautiful room. The service was spectacular. Anything we needed, we were provided. The concierge even made reservations for us at an amazing restaurant for dinner. This was our first trip to Savannah and The Gastonian definitely made it better. For breakfast we were served strawberry pancakes and they were the best pancakes I've ever eaten in my entire life! We will definitely stay here again the next time we visit Savannah! read more
