Hi. North Jerseyan here. Longtime Yelper. I hereby offer my wholehearted endorsement of Rod & Rail to anyone visiting or living in / near Cape Cod. Ambiance: Local bar. Not divey, but you walk in and you're basically at the bar. There's bar seating, a few tables on the side, a few in the back. People were eating and drinking wherever. Service: Prompt, friendly. The bartender was the owner, chatting with a local about working where he lives and drinking while he works. But very friendly and open to visitors here. And no overwhelming Boston accent. If you're not local, you'll do fine. Food: OK, I was here on an impulse search for dessert. They happened to have fresh homemade donut holes to go, so I got some cinnamon dusted. And by dusted, I mean WHOA NELLY that's a lot! And the donut holes were also huge. And they came with warm caramel dipping sauce. I couldn't put it down. While I was waiting (again, didn't take long, they were just shaking the topping on in the back), I looked over and saw bar pies that honestly? To this North Jerseyan? Looked like good tasty pizza. In Massachusetts. You have been warned. If you stay on Route 25 to bypass Bourne on your way to or from the bridges, you're not just adding mileage to your car to save a little time. Fantastic vibe--warm, welcoming, and instantly feels like your kind of place. I've been here many times and have never been disappointed. The food is consistently excellent with delicious, homemade-style creations, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere is spot-on (families are welcome) -- great music and the hometown teams always on the TV. This is one of those reviews that I am torn with. I am a stickler when it comes to pub food, and I guess RailTrailFlatbread Co raised the bar a bit for me, as have other pubs. I wanted to love this place because one of my best friends really does. I orginially started at 2 stars, but because the staff was so nice, and th poutine was good, I upped it one star. But here is the kicker. Whether on Cape or not, it is a sacrilege to charge $18 for a GRILLED CHEESE. Their daily special was a mozz grilled with pesto (not better than mine unfortunately, not bad but not all that great) and a slice of cheese on a multigrain sourdough bread. Not bad, but for $18 for a lunch sandwich (and most their sandwiches are in that price range), I expect it to wash my car after lunch. The place is a bit cramped and noisy, but they keep it clean and the staff is wonderful. I just can't overlook the pricing for the quality of what you get. Not bad. Just ok, and an overpriced ok. Call me a snob for willing to pay high for an entree, but it comes with a caveat that I must be dreaming about it after, AND its something I don't make myself. IF I make a grilled cheese, and you sell me a grilled cheese for almost $20 bucks - knock my socks off. Sorry guys. Your people are delightful! Prices are crazy (and please don't blame the economy - thats still outrageous for a pub grilled cheese sandwich...). Kudos on the $24 poutine (we added the tiny piece of shortrib that was a bit underseasoned, but the poutine gravy is so good, you can pour it on a flip flop and it will make lunch!) read more

Went for dinner last night on our vacation and this place was a sweet find! We had the best waitress, so kind, attentive and fun! Cod sandwich was yummy. Clam Chowder was also very tasty (not standard creamy, but flavors were amazing!) Seemed like a great combo of locals and visitors, and they welcomed all!! read more

What a great find Rod and Rail was! The bar of Rod and Rail offers an eclectic mix of cocktails, local brews, and even some great non-alcoholic options. The food menu was also interesting, diverse, and bar food-themed. Check out my picture of this for reference. My party ordered the hot noodle special, the falafel smash, and the burger. All were tasty and on point. The service we received on our visit was exceptional. There was ample seating in both the bar and the restaurant area. I came in for a business meeting around 6 on 2/25. Waitress was rude, mocking me for asking for a table and then later in the evening. I was embarrassed and couldn't figure out why she was being so insulting. Whatever was going on with her I hope her that's not how she acts with everybody. Watch her, she might be a business liability. read more

There is the main room with the bar and a back room. We were glad they put us in the back room because the noise level of the live band would have been more than we could take. Limited menu with a few specials. We both had Steak Frites and thought it was quite good. My wife had a pink Barbie cocktail, and really liked it. I ordered a Painkiller. I am somewhat of a Painkiller expert, having been to the BVI where they were invented, and perfecting my own recipe at home, as well as my famous Painkiller infused cake. This one did not have the correct ingredient proportions, and I wish I had ordered something else. Service was great. read more

I was so excited to have booked my boyfriend and I an Easter brunch here. We got there and we weren't asked if we had a reservation which was ok because it wasn't too busy yet, however I would have preferred to sit in the main restaurant and not their donut shop especially because I called ahead. We sat down and I chose a cocktail to have, my boyfriend was struggling to find something he liked on the menu so I suggested to him to order something simple he liked: a vodka Red Bull. The owner saw him struggling for a while and we joked about it, because my boyfriend picked his food before he picked his drink. Once he finally received his drink it was very flat, and syrupy. He took one sip and asked me to taste it, it was pretty flat and disgusting. I told him to just send it back and get a soda, not thinking much of it. He told our waitress he didn't like it and she took it back from him at the same time we put in for food. The female owner who had made conversation minutes earlier came running towards are table with his same drink and a shot glass with a small amount of Red Bull in it to show my boyfriend. She told my boyfriend that Red Bull is known to be lightly carbonated and he should've known this before ordering his drink and she was willing to go to bat for her bartender. I was in complete shock in her demeanor and unprofessionalism, her waitress was visibly uncomfortable and stood in a corner as she continued to confront my boyfriend for sending back his drink. He told her again that he disliked it and why, and she maintained that he was in the wrong and he should have known what he ordered and that she was not afraid to go "toe to toe" with him. Personally I have never experienced such poor customer service in my life, and the rude and condescending attitude towards my boyfriend caused him to want to leave immediately. I tried to end the conflict by offering to pay for what we had drank. I had finished my cocktail and had asked to pay for my drink and his that she refused to remake or replace. She brings me back a check with the food we haven't received yet on it and says she's not taking it off but she can pack it up for us. The total for the 2 drinks steak and cheese, chicken tender and fries was $80. My boyfriend saw the $80 receipt and for my sake he apologized to her for getting so upset, though she started the conflict and offered no apology. Not to mention both of our entrees were $2-3 more than what was listed on her menu. She left the same drink he sent back on our table and didn't offer to get him anything else. She charged us $10 for the vodka Red Bull. We stayed and ate our brunch in uncomfortable silence which I could barely stomach because of my anxiety from the confrontation. I actually am a local who has come to the Road and Rail the last 3 years with friends, family and my boyfriend. This was his first experience at the restaurant and I am incredibly disappointed and embarrassed for recommending this restaurant with the owners lack of respect towards her customers and I am not sure if it was because we are in our early 20s or that we are an interracial couple, or this is her as a person. I will not be returning to this restaurant again and regret spending hundreds of dollars as a local here, not to mention my friends and family members who have spent money here. I hope that she considers not only the poor quality drink but the blatant disrespect worth losing loyal customers. read more

After trying this spot for the first time I can't wait to go back! It's very easy to find with plenty of parking right down the street from the bridge. There are a lot of cute shops and places nearby so I stopped in for lunch and was very pleased. The staff provided knockout service. The interior was very cool with a mix of vintage and modern feel. Don't sleep on this amazing spot in Buzzard's Bay. They have a lengthy specials menu, and every special we tried was amazing. They post the weekly specials menu on social media daily which is awesome too. We also ordered the clam chowder & birria tacos off the standard menu which were a hit. The food was so good we inhaled it before taking any pics. They also offer a selection of boozy espresso drinks, which aren't as readily available down Cape so it was a pleasant surprise. Staff & management were all so friendly, offered food fave suggestions, and stopped by to check in on how we were enjoying our meals. Will definitely be back!! read more

Ok, honestly not my favorite place, but I do stop in on occasion and you should try it. The menu is limited but the food is tasty. Some of the items many may like but just not my cup of tea. Beer selection is very good, and the staff in my experiences has been friendly. They have done an excellent job of revamping after the buzzards bay tavern. My only complaint.... And I may get some old fart shots for this. When they have entertainment it is very loud and all but impossible to have a conversation. (I still listen to my music in the car on 11 so this is not an "if it's too loud you are too old situation" ) read more

Stumbled upon this bar while staying at the Hampton nearby. All I have to say is I'm bummed this place isn't local to me! I will forever dream about the short rib tater tot poutine. Stopped in for lunch on a whim last Sunday. A very pleasant surprise. Nice atmosphere, very neighborhood pub "ish". Menu is very creative and our food was extremely high quality. Menu is comfort food. Fish sandwich for my companion and a healthy honey carrot salad. Service was fine. Other menu items included a chili dog which looked amazing and chicken wings. Worth a stop. Headed to the Cape to watch a Cape Cod League baseball game and decided on this place from prior Yelp reviews. So glad we did. Sat outside in the patio out back . Waitress was awesome . Nice cold draft beers . Buffalo cauliflower appetizer had a nice kick with a house made cool ranch dipping sauce. We also requested some blue cheese which the waitress delivered. Our little town is growing up! I love all of the additions to downtown Buzzards Bay over the last couple of years and happy to have Rod & Rail as the newest addition. My wife and I enjoyed our meal here tonight and the waitress was extremely friendly. We will be back for sure. Prices are extremely reasonable for the quality of food that you receive. We shared the cheese board appetizer (would have loved to do 1/2 cheese plate and 1/2 meat plate) and I had the salmon special and my wife had the fried chicken sandwich.
