I've been to the Getaway quite a few times since they replaced Rincon at this location. Ive always touted the place as having the best grouper sandwich and burger in Tally. I wanted my nephew from TX to enjoy a grouper sandwich last night. We arrived maybe 6 pm-ish. Band was setting up outside. Inside had a good crowd. Bar stools all occupied. We took a seat at a table back by the restroom. Our server brought us menus. She returned promptly and took our beverage order. We also ordered a spicy chicken n chips appetizer as well as our blackened grouper sandwiches with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and Getaway sauce. The Beers were good, the spicy chicken dip was "meh". Pricey for the portion size. It was an extremely long wait for our sandwiches. I had finally asked the server if they had gone to the coast to catch the grouper. She apologized and said they'd be ready soon. Shortly afterwards an associate brought our sandwiches. Mine w slaw, my nephew's with steamed broccoli. As soon as as I started arranging my sandwich for eating and enjoying, I could tell the bottom bun was sopping and soggy. I took my first bite - dang, it was barely warm. That told me it had been sitting under the heat lamp for a long time. It tasted ok and we ate them. But - for $20 it was a disappointment. I came here with a couple friends to see a band, Pineapple Tuesday, play outside on the patio. It was so fun! There were several tables set up on the patio and also up the stairs on the deck. I wonder what they do to keep guests cool on oppressively hot days! This was my first time here. The server was friendly. The food seems to be pretty basic bar fare. I ordered a grilled cheese with fries for my son. The fries were sort of spiral shaped and fairly thick. I tried a couple and they were hot and delicious. The grilled cheese was super cheesy. When we were ready to leave a couple hours later, we had to flag down the server for a box and the bill, but it was no big deal because we really enjoyed hanging out listening to the band. I would definitely come here again to listen to a band. We had a decent first visit to the getaway grill recently. It was a party of three on a weekday afternoon. Let me start by saying that the main reason for our decision to dine here was to try the grouper sandwich which they were out of. I can't remember what my second choice was but they were also out of that as well. Sad day. Nevertheless it was still a good meal. I had the turkey club and I think the bread was kind of hard, that was the only shortcoming. The owner even came over to greet us and let us know to come back when grouper was in stock. The inside of the restaurant is small, but I hear that it is lively on certain nights with live music on the outdoor patio, Etc. I had heard about this place and wanted to give it a try. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will return. This Thursday night I sat at the bar and was warmly greeted. It was so hard to decide what to get but I ordered a starter of fried grouper chunks. They came out hot, hot, hot and delicious. They brought the Hideaway Sauce and the tarter sauce. The hideaway won the taste test. My dining partner ordered the grouper sandwich and I really wanted to try their chili. I ordered the best of both worlds and had a chili dog. The bread was too think for my taste so I just took off the top. Issue solved. The menu was filled with many yummy sounding items that will keep me coming back. A hidden gem. We have been looking for a local bar/pub with food that doesn't only cater to college students. I think we've found the place! We went early on a Friday night and the place wasn't busy. Within an hour of arriving, however, it started to fill up nicely. We sat inside, but they also have a covered patio and an outdoor patio, but of which will be nice if the temperature ever decides to go below 90 degrees! Service was very friendly and very attentive. We started out with happy hour 2-for-1 gin and tonics. Unfortunately, they came in rocks glasses rather than highballs so the ratio was off. We had an order of fried cheese curds to start. They were excellent. If they had been a little hotter in the middle then they would have been outstanding. The breading was perfectly crunchy and the tomato sauce on the side was delicious. We ordered done onion rings to accompany dinner, but they also came as an appetizer. These were also very good, but didn't come with any dipping sauce (and we weren't asked if we wanted any). I had the fried grouper and it was great. It wasn't exactly a beer batter, but it was crispy on the outside and tender and flaky inside. It was also a good sized piece of grouper. The accompanying sauce, like a thousand island dressing, was a nice accompaniment. And I really liked the "sidewinder" fries. An unusual style of French fry. Decent little place, I think our waitress was new, we had to ask for napkins, and then she took them away half way through our meal, kinda of weird. Two reasons caused us to eat at Getaway on Saturday: they had items on the kids menu that our picky pre-teen would eat and they had a falafel burger! We were not disappointed. Both adults got the falafel burger and we both loved it. Teenager got a hot dog that he enjoyed and pre-teen opted for the keg tots, which she actually liked. I heard a lot of praise of this place and had to check it out for myself. As a bar and grill, the menu selection was pretty basic (burgers, wings, chicken, sandwiches) but the quality was very good. I was also pleased with the variety of options - there is something for everyone. I had the chicken Parmesan sandwich and all I can say is wow! It was one of the best I've had. As for the portion size, it was huge - I easily could've made it last two meals (but it was tasty and I was hungry, so it disappeared quickly). I chose the steak fries as my side, and those were also quite good - would get them again. My husband got the classic burger with a side of onion rings and was very pleased with his choice. His only minor complaint was that he wished he would've gotten more onion rings (the one he graciously allowed me to sample was very good, so I can't blame him for wanting more). The highlight of the meal was definitely the sea salt caramel cheesecake, so save room for dessert! I was certainly glad I did. We were there on a weeknight, and it was not crowded at all. Our server checked on us several times and was very quick to bring out the things she promised. I was also pleased with the overall volume levels (no loud music or TV, so you can easily have a conversation). The inside was very clean and had a nice decorative vibe. The service is very quick and the cook is super nice. You get your food very quickly and it's always super hot, and never not fresh. The ambiance is very beach side bar feel, which is perfect if you can't drive to the nearby beaches. The cheese curds have little breading which is perfect and doesn't overpower the cheese flavor, and the sauce is awesome. The chicken is juicy and the fries are the perfect texture. We really wanted to like this restaurant but the order that they waiter said would be out in 15 minutes came out at 45 minutes and cold. I told him my onion rings were cold and he immediately picked up the plate to get them hot but my wife had the same cold onion rings so when he brought my plate back without the onion rings he had to bring hers back too. Stopped here on my way to Destin from Miami with a group of 20 people. They were so accommodating and made sure that we had a good experience. The waitress was very nice and welcoming. I had read positive reviews on another local forum about The Getaway Grille and Bar, so my dining companion and I wanted to give it a try. I'm just going to say up front, they only recently opened and we will return to give them another chance and I'll update this review at that time. We arrived at 6:30 pm on a Friday. The outside covered porch was busy. There were tables inside the restaurant so we were seated there. Someone took our drink order. We received our drinks promptly. 20 min later, a server returned to take our dinner order. The Dagwood deli sandwich, a side order of steak fries and an appetizer as a meal of hand cut grouper chunks. Our meal arrived at 7:30 pm. I mentioned to my companion if we hadn't been served by 8 pm, I was leaving. We saw the owner greeting tables with food as well as guests at the bar. Im not sure if he noticed we had nothing in front of us or maybe that we'd already finished, but it felt obvious that we were forgotten. A woman attempted to bring someone else's meal to us. In hindsight, I considered confirming it was ours. Ha! But my better angels said no. The Dagwood is a wonderful sandwich including sliced roasted turkey, honey Ham, capicola, salami and bacon with provolone cheese piled on a hoagie roll. It's big enough for two people. Weirdly enough, there is no mayo or mustard or getaway sauce on this sandwich. With that much meat and cheese, it would have gone down easier with a condiment. Or if it was heated or toasted. We also ordered the hand cut grouper chunks from the appetizer menu. They were seasoned well and a nice coating that stayed intact. They arrived a little cold. There was no one to tell and we didn't want to wait longer for them to be reheated. The menu says they're served with tartar or getaway sauce. Had to flag down a bartender to ask for the sauce. The getaway sauce is very good. The taste is similar to what you'd get with a blooming onion. And this turned out to be a nice sauce on the Dagwood hoagie roll too. With two soft drinks the total was $27. It's plenty of food for two people and we took half the sandwich home. The menu really is appealing. Appetizers, burgers, chicken, salads, fish, something for everyone. And desserts too! Again, I will give them another try. Maybe a weeknight next. read more

My family and I visited this establishment on a whim, after almost an 8 hour car ride (on a journey to travel to graduate school), and we were NOT disappointed. Truly, I have had many burgers in my lifetime, but I have never had a burger as good as the ones from this restaurant! Tuesday 11 June. First time in although I've read of the Grill since their opening (never knew if they were open for lunch or not.. understand it's now open at lunchtime). Open seating and server brought us menus and took drink orders (looks like they had a full liquor menu of drinks). Ordered a couple of beers (not offered a glass) and the Grouper bites. Very tasty and very hot. Came with your choice of sauce. My better half elected to order the Grouper Sandwich too with Onion Rings. She proclaimed her Grouper and rings outstanding (she ate it all). Since I had gone in there originally for the Grouper Sandwich, I extinguished that light with the Grouper bites and elected to get the Hot Shot burger and onion rings. Their burgers, 8 oz are custom blends of beef, short ribs and brisket I believe. Well move over HopDotty, there's a new winner. Excellent! Plenty of onion rings too. Ate too much. Maybe next time we could have the Grouper bites, then split an order between us. All good. Service was top notch. Multiple stops at our table by both servers. A shout out to the owner for the table for one in the corner. I would imagine 98% would have no idea the setting for one is a cherished tradition of the uniformed soldier, Airman and Sailor honoring those who are POW's or missing in action. A little late at posting this, but we had another AWESOME meal!! Steve and his team really go out of their way to make your experience a wonderful one!! We LOVE their grouper bites - hot and crispy and taste AMAZING!! We had the chicken tenders and hamburger this time. All cooked perfectly, the way we requested. There was a little mix-up as I had requested the broccoli, but was accidentally given carrot sticks. Deja (our wonderful server) corrected it immediately and I absolutely loved the broccoli so much that I forgot to get a picture of it. It isn't just steamed broccoli - it cooked with garlic (& maybe something else) and tasted soooo goood!! Normally, we have cheese on our bacon burger, but Steve was making a run to the store as they had run out (must have been busy before we had got there for a late lunch), but that just tells you how dedicated they are to providing for their customers. I have recommended this place to everyone and have even received feedback that they are having just as great experiences as we are. This was our first visit but the rest of our group had been here before. Food was good and average price for 2024.
