The engaging decor includes a wide variety of kitschy objects from many places worldwide. During our several-day stay, I didn't get tired of looking around and finding new curiosities. Outside, the B&B is tucked onto a forested and winding hillside, surrounding you with green leaves and views of the sky. It's easy to forget that you're less than 30 minutes away from downtown Philadelphia. And there's plenty of parking in the B&B's lot. Our room was a good size, but it was better for sleeping in and going out. It might have been a bit small if we planned on spending significant time just hanging out in the room as there wasn't much space around the very comfortable bed and the one chair, which was a plush and comfortable reading chair. The room also had an armoire, TV, and a short hall off of which the bathroom was located. (The rooms do vary in size, so again, that's just my view of the room we were in.) The breakfasts here are excellent and include what may be the best scones I've ever had. (I'm delayed in writing my review by several months, but the memory of those scones is still vivid. YUM!!!) Breakfast is served mainly in a kitsch-filled dining room, that's bright from high ceilings and sliding doors at one end of the room. The dining room table - a heavy wood table, suiting the atmosphere - 'only' seats 8 though, so if the table's full you may have to wait or choose to eat in one of the nearby rooms on a tray; when the weather's nice, there's more seating outside.

We also enjoy the lovely drive to get there. My children took me there for Mother's Day this year and we had the best time sharing appetizers and wine. My daughter and I visited a few weeks ago and apparently they have a new chef. I'm sure the menu is amazing if you are having dinner at the inn. However, their new shareable menu is anything but shareable!! Roasted carrots, asparagus, and tomato salad aren't exactly sharing friendly. We miss the large charcuterie board they used to have, the hummus platter, and the artichoke dip. Wonderful to share with a bottle of wine or two. Please bring back the old tasting menu, it was perfect!

The flights are reasonably priced and provide a tasty selection of red, whites, or rosé. Of particular note, the Cabernet Franc and the Pinot Gris stand out as excellent selections. Grace winery also offers a selection of small plates, shareables, and other quality food items from their kitchen - and there are a number of excellent options. Of note are the burgers, the lobster sliders, the cheesesteak sliders, and the shrimp tacos. As the name suggests, Grace winery also has an in that guest can book if they're looking for a romantic getaway. There are several structures throughout the BNB, we stayed in the Pond House in the Fats Hollow Room. The room had a beautiful view of the fountain and the pond, there is even a little row boat! The large king sized bed was super comfortable and the décor in shades of blue was very soothing. The owners are incredibly hospitable to their guests and made us feel so welcome. The check in area also serves as the "dining room" for the incredible breakfast served daily. I loved the snacks, coffee and soft drinks that are available. Breakfast was a TREAT! Homemade cinnamon rolls, crunchy fresh granola and Greek yogurt then a hearty spread of delicious sausage links, thick sourdough toast, fresh fruit (cut into delightful shapes) and a brown butter omelet. So satisfying and fresh. We raved about it for a bit! (The fresh preserves were a hit also) The location is so convenient to Longwood (which we visited), wineries and restaurants. Literally perfect. Cozy, friendly and within decent range of my destinations. Parking was easy as they have a small lot at the back of the building. Breakfast was delicious and the coffee was great. My room was on the 3rd floor, so beware if you are bring a lot of luggage as there are no elevators (not that I was expecting any). I reserved this room as I wanted the fireplace. My only caveat: If you plan on using the fireplace, it is gas, and I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get it on the first night. I asked the next morning and didn't realize I had to ask for the pilot light to be lit. It was early October and it had just gotten cool out. The hosts were so accommodating! There is a small pantry area where there is a fridge for common use if needed with bottled water and coffee/tea available. (Keurig and Kcups). This was my first time booking a B&B and it was the perfect experience. My only SLIGHT disappointment was that the Wi-Fi left a little to be desired. It was sometimes spotty, but still got me through. I would most definitely recommend it and if I am in the Philly area, would book it again in a heartbeat!

I found the Gables at the last minute and they had a room and allowed us to check in within an hour. The room was amazing. We were so worn down after a day of travel and the bad Airbnb experience that we would have taken anything clean, but were pleasantly surprised by the pristine, peaceful, beautiful suite that we got. The owners were very understanding of our situation and helped us get settled right away. They were great about helping us get trolley tokens and find our way downtown so we could enjoy what was left of the day. In addition, since it was my birthday they even surprised us with cake and champagne. The morning breakfast was also great and checkout was easy. I am a Penn alum but somehow didn't know about the Gables. It is now my go to place for trips to Philadelphia, I can't recommend it enough. Thanks to the owners for a great stay!
