I was in town on vacation from Dallas and really needed a massage from all the car travel. I had the pleasure of meeting Katie. Scheduling was easy and Kim was polite and communicative. It is a multi use building. However, Katie had such a good way of welcoming me and massaging me that I was not disturbed by the noise of construction, etc. I was there to relieve pain and tight muscles and the quality of her massage was exceptional. This is the worst yoga studio in town. They give no guidance and assume you know ask the positions. I recommend any other yoga studio as they have to be better than this one. Studio smelled funny,like an old building with mold. Decor tacky, vibes off. read more

Great location for this yoga studio. Decent parking (free and paid), and there's easy access for getting into downtown or back on the freeway. The inside of the studio is well organized, and there are two separate practice rooms for holding different classes at the same time. The teachers I have practiced with so far are very helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and I enjoyed their sessions. The Ropes and Props class is awesome! I've gone to about five or six classes here so far and I've really been loving it. The teachers have all been knowledgable and helpful. Their schedule offers several different types of classes throughout the day, so I love and appreciate the flexibility of being able to attend before work, during lunch, after work or later in the evening. read more

Don't sign up for the discounted monthly rate, it sounds good in principle, BUT, when you go to sign up for classes that fit your schedule, they are full, SO, you end up losing money and there is nobody to contact for a refund. read more

This place offers a wide variety of yoga classes. I enjoy taking yoga here. You can drop in to any class or you can buy a pass which may save you a few bucks. They also offer pilates. On Sunday there is a donation based class which begins at 1:00pm. Get there early for a promised spot because she does have to turn people away because the class gets so large. If you are sore they give massages which I am looking forward to enjoying one day. The food here is very good. The cafe itself is closed on Sundays but open every other day. They close on Saturday at 3:00pm and every other day at 6:00pm. As of May 1st they will be expanding their hours on Thursday, Friday and Saturday to 9:00pm. "The Glowing Bowl Café serves fresh juices, smoothies, teas, organic coffee, natural sodas & waters in addition to a daily menu of snacks, salads & sandwiches which are made on site and based on seasonal availability of local & organic produce. The café offers vegetarian and high enzyme food creations to keep your energy flowing and keep your body filled with light!," as it states on their website. Check them out. I recently got a massage from Shelagh Leutwiler and it was AHHHMAZING. I have probably had 20 full body massages on my life and have never once had the massage therapist sit down with me prior to starting and actually ask me about my life, the reason I am there, areas I want to focus on, etc. Normally, they look at the questionnaire, ask a few questions, and carry on. She made sure I was comfortable throughout the process. I felt 1000x better afterwards and she even went through some techniques I could try to alleviate my tension and some suggestions that might help relax me. I definitely recommend anyone looking for a great massage to visit her! On a side note-the studio as a whole was super cute, clean, and relaxing. I can't wait to try a yoga class there! read more

This is one of my favorite places in Knoxville. I love the vibe and the small size. Yoga, massage, and super healthy food in one place. Food/Drink: The smoothies are incredible, especially the "Swampy Afternoon" which has berries and almond butter as the main taste. They are expensive, but one is/should be your entire meal. The sandwiches usually are wonderful as well and change every week. The chef is very creative and health conscious, so you'll always find raw foods or soups. The fruit is fresh and the salads are complex. Over all, the menu is small, but unique (for Knoxville) and flavorful. I took a raw foods cooking class there one weekend which I very much enjoyed. Yoga: I have done several yoga classes here, and they have all been fine. The truly outstanding aspects are the beautiful hard wood floors and sky light. The teaching was okay. I had yoga experience prior to my classes at Glowing Body, and there is room for improvement as far as that goes, but it's not bad. Massage: Haven't tried it yet. I plan on doing it eventually, so I'll let ya know. Staff: I love the staff here. Hollis is the owner and a great person to know. All of the employees have been very friendly and never made me feel unwelcome. Overall, I just love this place after a long day of work. It's relaxing, cozy and theraputic. read more

I'm from CA, and decided to check out the Yoga classes at The Glowing Body, while in TN. This studio is a mixed space, offering massage and art as well. First, the studio was very clean, aesthetically pleasing, and the staff at the front desk was cordial. Most importantly though, the classes were wonderful and the instructors were experienced and just lovely to work with! I took two classes, 1) Ashtanga-Inspired Vinyasa On The Go, with Allison and 2) Yoga Lift, with Philip I have to say that I have been doing Yoga on/off for ten years, run, and do power-lifting, thus live a fairly active lifestyle. So I found both classes to support my lifestyle and over all wellness. I really appreciate the 'adjustments' during the class, to help me achieve proper posture and enhance my practice. I also enjoyed the pace of each class, granted each was entirely different. The first class, with Allison I would recommend to beginning to advanced Yogis and the class with Philip is a very nice, challenging experience, as it combines Yoga with kettle balls. The strengthening synergy of lifting weights and Yoga in a heated room will have you sweating within minutes! I would not recommend this class who has not had much experience lifting weights. Further it is energetically demanding and thus, stamina is key. Perhaps more experienced/athletic individuals would enjoy this class. It appears as a myriad of styles is offered by this studio, and I'm excited to try a few other classes. I also appreciate that both a.m., afternoon, and p.m. sessions are offered. Further, I felt the pricing was flexible and appropriate. Classes ranged from $5-$15, and considering a movie (or a glass of wine/whiskey) costs about $10 these days, an hour+ of professional services (and benefiting your health) is worth it! I didn't try the class cards, but this might offer a better deal for locals. Overall, I found the studio very pleasing; the rooms accommodate small-medium class size which seemed appropriate for the group present. The rooms have nice, clean floors and skylights, which brought a warm light to the space. Further, the instructors were experienced and made the classes quite enjoyable. I am saddened to be going back to CA, and await visiting this studio again! read more

I was part of a yoga class for two years with the same instructor who was very good about gently correcting, and making sure the students were practicing properly so as to not injure themselves. She also had a fabulous voice, very calming and soothing, wrote her own guided meditations for shivasinas. Unfortuneately this instructor had to stop teaching, as the recession hit in 2008, and she had to work double at her government job. I have yet to find an instructor who has the same merits, until now. I took one class at The Glowing Body, the Zen class, and I can't say enough great things about it. The instructor was smooth, she gently corrected my postures without over-imposing herself in my bubble, and she was patient with the students. This is the first time since 2008 that I've felt this great. I will definitely be going back! read more

As a master teacher and one who has studied with Indian masters, this studio strives to bring the best of yoga to knoxville. With K-town's first teacher training comin' this summer to The Glowing Body, it will hopefull expand it's yoga community beyond the studio walls. As a yogi, healer and child yoga specialist, I enjoy teaching my classes here as well as simply hanging out in the cafe during the day or night for the good vibes. This is a place where parents can take their children for private kids classes or hula hoops and yoga, beginner's can find stress relief with the Kundalini classes, Svaroopa, Power and Yin yoga classes. And there are donations based classes on Sunday--I personally teach the 3p yoga and healing class--with everyone from seniors to students. I am pretty new to yoga. I took a few classes in Atlanta and never 'got it'. When I moved to Knoxville I started taking classes at glowing body with a friend and immediately saw a difference in the classes in what they offered an what I had taken in the past. When I am at glowing body I feel a connection to yoga and a connection to my own self. The environment is soothing and the staff is both encouraging and professional. Displaced urbanites and transplanted yoga aficionados will recognize Glowing Body as Knoxville's only "real" yoga studio. The range of classes is good and so is the menu at the attached restaurant. (Take note: it's vegetarian not raw food. You still have to head out to Nashville if it's the latter you want.) Class-wise, many of the teachers seem to be novices, but they take teaching seriously and they have real promise. On that score, heart-centered Anusara yoga stands out. Power yoga and hot Hatha also come recommended, and there's Pilates plus a class or two with ropes. As others have said, the studio does wine and music on the weekends, which is nice, and the whole thing is definitely worth checking out. read more

They're a great addition to the neighborhood. They have music on fridays called round rug series hosted by the lovely Matt Moorelock. I regularly take a "karma" class at the Glowing Body, which is a class without a set price. You show up and pay what you can. The studio itself is always clean, the staff is courteous and friendly, and the instructors are very knowledgeable. The studio offers several styles of classes, though I now take a hot power yoga class exclusively. I highly recommend this studio, both for the variety of classes offered as well as for the knowledgeable instructors. The atmosphere of the studio is everything you can ask for. read more
