We had a kitchen all to ourselves and the teacher's undivided attention at 5pm on a weeknight. . We started off by whisking an egg into a cup of flour. After much kneading, we each had our homemade pasta dough balls which we let rest. Then, we got started on the pasta sauce. We made both a white and red sauce. In between, we had sips of the rose we brought because they're BYOB! Once we got the sauce going, we rolled out our pasta and cut them into strips of fettuccine using a couple of pasta makers. Finally, we chopped up some fresh garlic for garlic bread. I've forgotten her name, but the teacher was very friendly and knowledgeable. She even taught us a cool trick to turn parmesan rinds into delicate crisps. We wrapped up the session by digging into our pasta dishes and snapping some photos to capture the moment! I can't wait to make my own pasta at home.

First off, I want to high five the amazing team who worked so well and patiently with the kids as they took turns and worked together to make the very fun recipes in store for the class. Secondly, I was so impressed with how organized it was and how there was an age-appropriate job for each of the kids who attended. Parent were able to help, but most of us were taking pictures of our kids cooking because how often do we see that?? The space was so clean and well put together, and the energy was just as fun as the process. We cannot wait to go back for another cooking class with friends!

I am writing this review to alert other parents about what happened to us with The Allen Eagles…read moreSports Camps. We encourage other parents to think twice, and to consider (instead) other children's sports camps and organizations before enrolling their child in this camp. We enrolled one of our children (who had a keen interest in sports) into this camp, and for our part, this is the first and last time we use this organization. Our children have been to other sports camps, outside of the area, that have serviced children of all sports ability levels. These other camps have done so in an instructive and professional manner. Our experience has been that The Allen Eagles Sports Camps is not one of those instructive and professional camps geared towards children of all sports ability levels. When we first found out about The Allen Eagles Sports Camps, we reviewed the material we had gotten in print and then we reviewed their website. Since the information they provided in print and on their website was not sufficient, we contacted them to fill in the missing gaps. We asked if the camp was also for beginners, and if our child needed to bring any kind of equipment for the camp. We were told that the camp was for all level of students which included beginner students, and that equipment was not necessary. We found out the hard way that none of this is true. As a result, The Allen Eagles Sports Camps turned out to be quite a bad experience for our child. When we walked in on the first day of camp, we found out that our child did need to bring equipment. Then, we looked around, and saw other children practicing at a level clearly indicating that they were more experienced. So, we asked again if the camp had a section for beginners, and noted that the children present appeared much older than our child. The coaches present avoided eye-contact with us, and looked uncomfortable as they said that yes the camp was also for beginners and all age groups. A more senior looking coach looked aggravated that our child did not have the equipment necessary. We mentioned the information we had been given by their information line, but this senior coach's demeanor remained unchanged. Once the day at this "camp" got started, the students were broken up into groups. Our child was put in with more experienced and older students, and though our child reiterated the age and beginner status, our child was told that this was how it was going to be. The final outcome was that they gladly took our money so that they could use our child for the benefit of the more experienced and older students. The older and more experienced students seeing that our child was not as experienced, berated our child for not being as good as they were. The "coaches", who were standing in the middle of the incidences, did nothing to stop the bullying, and instead quietly looked on giving the impression that they gave their consent to the bullying by their silence. Since they were standing right there, it's not hard to believe that they were fully aware of the bullying. Our athletic child has refused to give this sport a try again, and it was quite a while before our child agreed to try other sports. We lost money, but we are hoping to alert other parents and save them and their child/children the bad experience.

Below is a recommendation letter I wrote for the organization for a fund raising application that sums up why the residents of McKinney Texas with young children who love art should check out YOUNG AT ART CHILDREN'S CREATIVE CENTER (www.youngatartmckinney.org). Young at Art provides a very nurturing environment for artisitc experimentation and development. They provide access to various mediums and techniques that go beyond the simple art projects typically found in a children's art class. The staff at the center are very encouraging and caring and help children experiment beyond standard techniques and styles. Additionally, their philosophy and teaching practices encourage the children to participate in their commnity by hosting events that allow the children to participate in the local OB Christmas Parade and in art projets that become part of the community such as window murals and the mural at the OB Gas Station. The art school is a very special place for the students where they can feel at home and accepted, but get to make messes and create masterpieces. I believe that all children benefit from exposure to creating and experiencing art. With the reduction of art classes in public schools, outside community art schools provide an opportunity for children to experience the creativity and joy of art. Young at Art provides this opportunity to the local children of Ocean Beach and Point Loma. They offer scholarships for students who are unable to afford the cost of classes and bring together groups of children who might not otherwise interact. The staff at the school fosters caring and consideration of each child toward their classmates and encourages collaboration amoung the students. If you have a young child who would benefit from attending an art class or camp you should call and talk to Miss Kim the director! I'm sure you will be glad you did.
