Today is St. Patrick's Day so we thought we would try the Golden Eatery for a Corned beef and cabbage meal. We had tried their fish frys a few weeks ago and loved it all. Well today's meal was very disappointing for sure. I felt like I ordered the diet plate. The piece of corned beef was about 2 ounces the cabbage could not have been much more than a quarter cupful, the potatoes were big and the carrots were 3 tiny pieces. Seriously was this the portion for the Irish Famine? I will stick to the fish frys. If it wasn't for the great dessert the meal would have been a flop...not doing the Irish jig over this meal. read more

Friendly waitresses. Fast service. Delicious food. Great prices. The Golden Eatery is one of my favorite places to eat!

If I could give negative stars I would. The food was fine, but it comes out slow. If you aren't a regular, the owner who is also the waitress treats you terribly. She is a rude, aggressive witch! Had to wait 45min to eat , hash browns undercooked got two lectures on how they are frozen ,ok,needed to be cooked longer. Bacon , uncooked,wanted well done, Like rubber ,asked for exchange ,was told we would have to wait an hr.!!! as there were 25 people waiting.milk gravy , I think ? no flavor. We had what sounds like a similar experience as other reviewers. We walked out after standing at entrance waiting to be seated in a not very busy, half full establishment. Staffing problems? A young man seemed to be running from front to back doing everything, seemed stressed to say the least, had people in line waiting to pay looking angry, and us waiting to be seated. Rather than contribute to the obvious problem we searched out another choice. read more

After reading that my friends and I did not have the greatest service, I was immediately acknowledged by a concerned staff member. Although my first experience there was not the best the fact that I was acknowledged and offered an olive branch shows me that they do care for customers. read more

We have been here several times for breakfast. In a nutshell, the food is good and the price is right. The only knock is the food comes out slow sometimes, but I trust they will work that out. Our toast wasn't toasted. Hash browns burned on one side warm in center and uncooked on other side. Pancake was burned. Waitress spilled my coffee. Staff was friendly to the " locals" but unresponsive to tables. Second chance at this restaurant. Won't be back. read more

Buyer beware! Don't go here if you're from out of town! Apparently the only people they like are the locals! Otherwise you're treated as a "bother" & second-class...who knows? You may even get cursed at & told to leave, like we were!? Terrible, terrible attitude by the owner. Don't know how they stay in business. My husband owned a coffee shop/cafe & his mother & daughter were both in the restaurant business & would NEVER have treated anyone like we were treated! STAY AWAY! I'm from a small town in NJ, and I enjoyed swinging in here for breakfast. They made sure I had coffee and the food was great

"Worst experience ever" The service was the killer, we had a small issue with the food let the waitress know she insisted the food fine and there was nothing wrong. She would not replace nor fix anything about it, and demanded we pay full price for the plate. We decided to escalate and ask for the manager or owner. The same waitress replied I am the owner and started to raise her voice belittling us. The gravy for the biscuits and gravy was jello like and gummy. The sausage had an of after taste. And the mashed potatoes "mashed by hand fresh daily" were pasty and bland and really had the consistency of powdered. None of the food was "hot". Most of the issues weren't really not that bad aside from the gravy of which our table had 3 orders of and none were edible. Even by some rather none picky eaters. But the service, words cannot describe... In the direction of bad and think even worse. I've seen kitchen nightmares on TV but this was living it. I would not suggest this place to anyone. Take your money elsewhere! Service horrible. Food mediocre. The worst part about this place was the waitresses and service. We (two of us) were never greeted and waited forever for a table and got chastised by a very angry waitress in front of the entire restaurant because we asked if a table had opened up in the back patio. She said, "You need to hold your horses. Can't you see there are no free tables!" (U can't see the back outside patio from the front of the restaurant lady!) NO customer service! My husband wanted to leave right then and there, but I wanted to stay to leave my 2 cents. We finally sat at the bar and listened to all the waitresses bitch about how busy it was. The place is run extremely inefficiently and food very average. Don't even bother to patron this place! read more

Day #1: Saturday morning. We had a great breakfast here. The food was good and the bill was only $20 for 4 people. Our waitress was ok. She seemed nice enough and we got our food pretty quickly, even though they were busy. I ordered a breakfast burrito with ham, eggs, potatoes, and cheese. I left her a $10 tip. Day #2: Sunday morning. My husband and I, our 2 small children, and our 2 friends, with their small child, decided to go back and eat here. I am 7 months pregnant and was totally starving! When we walked in they were just as busy as the morning before. Our friends and their kid had not arrived yet. We got the same waitress. It took 5 minutes before she took our drink order. Our friends walked in right after that and it took 5 more minutes for a different waitress to take their order. 10 minutes after that we finally got to order our food. I ordered a breakfast burrito with ham, potatoes, eggs, and extra cheese (same as the day before, but with extra cheese). It took 15 minutes for our food to come out (totally understandable! They were busy!). And another 5 minutes for our friend's food to come out, even though we were at the same table. I sent back my burrito because they had added peppers and onions to it. 5 minutes later, our regular waitress brought it back out and it was completely burned on the top. Otherwise it looked like the inside contents were ok. The waitress came back as I was picking the burned part off the top and snatched it up from me, and told me they would re-do it. She told me that it was burned because they wanted to get it out to me quickly. (I guess that was more important than doing it right.) 5 minutes later she brings it back out with about 80% a cheese (not melted), a few potatoes, a few pieces of ham, and almost no eggs. She slams it on the table in front of me and asks me if I need anything else. I told her no. At that point I opened the burrito and saw that it was full of unmelted cheese and almost nothing else. At this point, my daughter leans over and asks me if she can have a glass of water. I told her that I can ask for one, but it would probably be a while before it could get to us. The waitress walks over and tells us that we have to "get out, now!". She says that she has been trying to make me happy and that it is obviously impossible. I didn't think I was asking for anything that horrible!! I was totally understanding about the long wait to get our drinks, to get our food, and the veggies in my burrito. I was shocked at the burned burrito she brought me next, but was willing to let her re-make it. I didn't get pissed until she brought me the 3rd burrito, with mostly unmelted cheese, and almost no other contents. My friend stood up to argue with her. The waitress said that she had asked me if I wanted anything else, two minutes earlier, and I had said no. That was perfectly true, but she had not realized that it was my daughter that was asking for water, not me. She again told us to leave. After a minute of sitting there debating, we decided to leave. I understand that they were busy, but the waitress just cared about herself, not whether or not her customers were happy. I would have given this restaurant a 4 star rating, if not for this experience. If they ever fire this horrible waitress, I'll edit my comments and rating. I am boycotting this restaurant, and will make sure that all my friends and family that visit Mears, will not go there too. Good restaurant, horrible waitress. read more

I was amazed. I was Looking forward to meeting the new owners. I was more then impressed. Very good people and they work very hard to accommodate our needs. They have a love for there family and business that makes the atmosphere comfortable. The food is put together very well. (Nummy food:)!!) I hope and pray they succeed. New customer!:) treat them good and they will treat you with the best treatment you could ask for. I think I can speak for the Oceana county this family is amazing and deserve our respect. Do not make them pay for the last owners mistakes. April is the owners name. She is a wonderful owner, boss. Person mother and wife. The kids and husband work together with there mom. This is an establishment that is a great place to eat. I do believe anyone who comes to the Golden Eatery will be very satisfied. Being a waitress myself for 23 years I totally love this place. Remember to tip the wait staff graciously. They surely deserve it. We as a community could do more to help this business out. Thanks for bringing Golden Eatery back to us April and family. Been there several times. Never disappointed. I've always eaten breakfast foods. Today was a busy Saturday and I was still happy with the experience. Service is friendly. Food is delish. Price is right. Sometimes you wait a little while for your food because it is busy and there are not a lot of servers (who also ring sales), so if you're in a big hurry or want fancy atmosphere, go somewhere else. If you want to relax with a great home-cooked meal served by friendly people and not spend a lot, try this out. read more

I must say that I have never been treated to such rudeness from a business in all my 60+ years. Four of us went to breakfast there as recommended by our hotel owner. We waited 20 minutes to be seated, which is fine, but the hostess who I think was the owner, bit our head off when we asked if there was seating outside. It took more than 40 minutes to get our food even though the place was not full. When it did finally come after we asked twice (and yes, we asked nicely) our food was cold, not cooked how we asked and some of the food never came. Then the lady came out to our table after we complained about the cold food and started cussing us out and demanded that we leave. Yikes!! I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt until she told all of us to go f*** ourselves for simply wanting better service and warm food. This lady truly has issues. Then as we were leaving, I saw her in the kitchen screaming about us to the kitchen staff. Why would anyone act like that?
