Not sure what all the negative fuss is all about with some reviews for this place, it wasn't bad at all. Unfortunately, I didn't try any BBQ. Definitely next time though... WHO WENT: I went there with my girlfriend and her kid. I had a steak salad, She had a stuffed fish dinner, and the kid had a grilled chicken salad. WHAT WE GOT: The portions for every meal (and plates) where excellent and HUGE! My girl said the seafood was fantastic and the 6 year old kid actually quietly ate all the grilled chicken on the plate as well as most of the salad...which has to mean something if you know anything about kids being picky eaters. THE LOOK AND FEEL: The interior was kinda family restaurant oriented...it was very casual and you kinda knew you where going to get a good home style cooked meal, but we weren't expecting the extremely large portions. Very nice. WAITER: Our waiter was kind and served food and drinks in a timely manner. No complainants whatsoever. We left a nice tip. COST: It wasn't expensive at all considering the amount of food we got. $9 each for the (2) huge salads and $13 for a complete huge stuffed fish dinner with veggies, mashed potatoes, and soup. (plus juice and drinks). RESULT: Very nice, quiet, and relaxed time. We are definitely going back again, and looking forward to it. BONUS: Try the giant sized strawberry frozen daiquiri. The sign saying Memphis Barbecue brought me into this place because there are few things I like better than smoky dry-rubbed ribs. I was seated right away, but it took a while to get a menu. Strike one. I ordered the Memphis ribs and a draught Guinness which came in a 12 oz. Miller Light glass, which is heresy. Strike two. My overcooked, stringy ribs came about 15 minutes later. While there was a definite smoke ring and pleasantly smoky flavor, the crust on the ribs was actually crunchy; not a good thing in Barbecue. The meat was tough and broke into strings while I sawed through it with the dull serrated knife they gave me. Strike three. The accompanying beans were vinegary and obviously came from a can and the cole slaw tasted like the stuff I get at the supermarket deli. The golden pub has amazing food. Everything is fresh and homemade. From the steaks to the seafood bar. All their servers are very friendly. The atmosphere in the restaurant is a bit outdated but the quality of the food is well worth it. I personally never had the ribs but have heard from family that they are amazing. I come all the time for a cheesesteak and wings and a good German beer. If you want good quality food and a calm not busy environment then the golden pub is for you. read more

Second time I have been here with my family. Second time was just as great as the first.(The reason we came back) Ribs to die for and the sides of coleslaw and beens where unbelievable. I decided to try out the Golden Pub because it is literally right around the corner from where I live and me and my friend wanted to eat some bbq. It almost reminded me of a really crappy hole in the wall bar and not a place where you would want to take your family/friends/anyone to eat at. The first thing i noticed when i went inside was a really crappy looking clam bar thing, it may have been the prototype because it just looked really shabby, I don't really eat seafood so that didn't phase me. i also noticed a piece of the rug missing next to it. The waitress said we could seat ourselves because there was a party of people, mostly older people, having a party in the back at a big table and one guy at the bar, having a drink and watching tv. So we go sit down at a table and notice there was a gross/dirty appetizer plate there, I think being it was so dead besides that party that maybe it was just left there on accident, so we moved to the next table over and the seat had crumbs on it and the silverware and table cloth just looked dingy and dirty. The first thing that came out was the sodas and bread, the soda was very watery and tasted more like tap water than soda, on the other hand the bread was actually piping hot and tasted fresh so that threw me off a little, at first. I ordered the cheesesteak just because it was lunch and i didn't want a huge meal in the middle of the afternoon and my friend ordered the BBQ chicken. We waited extremely long, I'd say about 30 minutes, at least, which made no sense because the place was literally dead and party was already eating! So finally the food came out and by this time the both of us were starving! when you are that hungry nothing usually tastes bad, well guess again! The cheesesteak looked pretty good and it came with fries for 5 bucks so for the price it wasn't looking bad at all! then i tasted the sandwich and it had no taste at all, the fries looked under cooked and almost white! So what the hell were they doing for the 30-45 minutes while we waited for our order!? I ate about half of the sandwich and a handful of fries, i can eat, especially when I'm hungry but it was just too bland! I also tasted my friends chicken and besides the BBQ sauce, which wasn't all that great it was also very bland as well especially for being smoked 7-10 hours that's the taste you get?? that seems just outlandish! Instead of the waitress asking us if everything was ok or if we wanted a refill on our crappy drinks she decided she would rather have a smoke! then eventually she came back and said "was everything ok?" my friend replied "no, i didn't enjoy it at all" she said "oh would you like me to get you something else?" you would think when someone says "no i didn't enjoy it at all" that you would try to compensate or at least take something off the bill! so then i asked for the bill, instead of just giving it to us she decided to cut a cake for the whole party (about 12-15 people) in the back, we literally waited another 10 minutes for the bill which she could have just gave it to us and paid and left. The Golden Pub.....I've been here a few times with my girlfriend she use to come here with her Mom & Dad years ago, a very comfortable relaxing atmosphere, very friendly people, great service, great food !!!! We love the mushroom soup, the calamari is very good and plenty of it, the sauce is so tasty, the steaks are cooked to perfection , very Good bacon cheeseburgers, we really enjoyed the mozzarella with onions tomatoes and roasted peppers appetizer, great specials like the chicken saltimbocca, delicious , love the ice cold glasses with my beer, great prices , definitely a new favorite place, We Love it !!!! This place is stuck in the 80s. Better yet, it looks like one of those places you would see on the show Restaurant Impossible, where they fix failing restaurants. I stopped in because my cousin told me this place had good cheesesteaks. So my husband and I ordered one from the menu, you choose from the options A, B, or C. We chose the one with onions and mushrooms. To my astonishment when it arrived from the kitchen, the cheesesteak was cheese-less!! LOL. When i flagged down our waitress, she gave us a bit of attitude because we didn't ask for cheese on it. This doesn't make any sense. how are they going to advertise cheesesteaks on the menu with options A, B & C and then make the customer request to put cheese on a dang cheesesteak? i was pretty unsure when i walked in. It was old dated and dingy.the raw bar i got excited over but the shrimp weren't firm and crisp The guy that was shucking looked like the dishwasher from the back,,,he opened them but left a lot of the meat to go back and scrape off the shell.I felt like i was doing his job over again...I ordered the lobster ravioli and it had a very strong fish after taste. The stuffed mushrooms were pretty decent and my husband had the philly cheesesteak .He enjoyed that but the french fries were not edible soggy cold and greasy.. fries should be crispy hot and lightly salted.. i will probably go back for the raw oyster bar and maybe hot pastrami. Only because it's so hard to find someone who knows how to brine and cook pastrami correctly. I still haven't found a good fish and chips place as well. This place is probably one of the best values in the metro area. I eat out a lot and I will go out of my way to travel to this place. The food is OUTSTANDING and priced right. You get your moneys worth and the value and friendly service is unmatched. The owner Stash is super nice guy who personally comes out of the kitchen to open amazing fresh oysters for you and they are available every day for under $1. The Kings Cut Prime Rib is mouth watering, the brat is delicious and the potato pancakes kick ass! Steak tips are great and veggies hit the spot. Try the white bean soup, you will love it. Not once have I ever had a negative experience. I took a food critic with me who always finds something negative when he dines and he was speechless. So while working my partner suggested BBQ here I said sure lets try it. Big mistake. Shoulder was tough and dry. I'm not even sure it was smoked and it was drowned in BBQ sauce. No smoky flavor. Ribs were decent but smothered in BBQ sauce. The coleslaw was a just diner slaw and the baked beans were from a can. All in all a pretty bad experience. We had repass dinner here for over 50 people. They were very accommodating in such a short notice and the owner even came out to say hello and offer condolences. The pulled pork was greasy over vinigared and inedible. My son couldn't eat it. Same with the ribs and chicken..way too greasy, the meat tasted rancid and overall inedible. Such a disappointment to be charged a different price from what was written on the 'specials' board. We were told that a mistake had been made and that the menu and all other 'specials' boards were correct except the one we were seated close to. The owner would NOT honor the price and even suggested that we leave one of two dinners prepared for take out. The others were delighted with all the appetizers {artichoke francese, stuffed shrooms, baked clams), the entrees, flounder sorrentino was mine. Nice place for decent food. If nothing on the menu catches your eye the chef always has many dishes not included on the menu. Good fish selections, lamb chops and special seafood salad. Prices are reasonable. Place is a little dated though. read more
