We've passed this restaurant many times on a busy River Road in Fair Lawn and decided to stop in. Upon entering this warm and cozy interior without a reservation as first-timers, my partner and I managed to locate a table outside on this summer-like day. Juany's Cafe is a cozy, family-run establishment making a great impression as a place for brunch on locals and visitors. The owner is Peruvian, and the Mexican cook began in the kitchens of his homeland, known for its authentic Latin-inspired cuisine. We decided on the Latin bowl with marinated steak accompanied by black beans, sautéed veggies, avocado, and sweet plantains & Grilled Chicken Burritos with Sweet Potato Fries. Complimentary fruit salad started our meal. All ingredients were fresh, and the seasonings were unique with their bold flavors. There was a wait time for food as everything was homemade, made to order, and well presented. The prices were more than reasonable considering the quality of the food. Stopped here on a saturday when we really needed breakfast and this was a great choice. The kids options were perfectly sized- pancakes, eggs and choice of protein. I had the arepa special that came with a side salad and hubby had the huevos ranchero. The black beans were some of the best beans ive ever had. The arepas were pretty much perfect as well. The service was very good as well, with the owner coming to apologize after my order was very wrong and I received eggs Benedict instead of the arepa special. The restaurant is no longer open for dinner. Latin brunch food. I've been here three times but had a hard time formulating a review until now, because the food was... just okay each time. I've had the Mexican Shakshuka and Latin Style Benedict, which both sounded like they were going to be unique and delicious, but they were both kind of flat. But why two stars? The third time I came to this restaurant, I ordered chicken fingers and french fries for my daughter. The first time they brought the dish out, the chicken was raw on the inside. Obviously we sent it back. The second time they brought it out, the chicken was cooked, but one of the pieces of chicken was replaced with fish. We probably will not be back. read more

In order to give our Bergen County Boys a break , we returned to Juany's Cafe in Fair Lawn !!! Damn , their food is fantastic !! It's Latin based with Mexican and Peruvian delicacies. Real simple today with just entrees and excellent mint Iced Tea. Here's what we had : Fish Tacos, Chicken Quesadillas, Pulled Pork Tacos, Tri-Tip sandwich. And Alhambra tacos which are skillet tacos with Bacon Chorizo, Beef and all the fixings !!! A special shout out to Alberto and his family who took such good care of care of us !!! Finally....I got to visit Juany's Cafe. In the past, on weekends, they were filled to the gills with long wait times. I appreciated how tables were not close to each other and the service was exemplary. I appreciated how, before anything was served, they served a small cup of fresh cut fruit for the table. I've never seen that in any other cafe. My mug of coffee was HUGE, 16 oz, and it was one of the best "regular" coffees I've ever had. Not only was the mug large, but refills were frequently accommodated throughout the meal. Our entrees were: Breakfast Sandwich (Ham, egg, American Cheese, on a toasted brioche bun) and the Mexican Breakfast Burrito (Scrambled eggs, sausage, home fries, avocado, chipotle aioli, black truffle sauce, pepper jack cheese, accompanied with a side salad). Both were VERY GOOD, filling, and perfectly seasoned. I really enjoyed the saltiness of the chorizo (sausage) mixing with the starch of the potatoes. Good local Latin kitchen. One of the best dishes was the ceviche. The dishes we had were all good yet would have preferred not having by our accompaniment bowl in our main course plate. Just a small detail. The interiors lacked character and it seemed seating was very sparse. Service was ok. Surprised to see our server so casually dressed in sweats. We normally come for brunch because it's within waking distant to our house and did is always delicious. But this time we hosted our daughter's one year birthday party at the restaurant and it was amazing. We had about 30 people group with kids and we all comfortably fit at the larger side of the restaurant that's privately reserved for us. Natalie, owner of the restaurant, is super easy to work with and an amazing cook. She is well versed at many cuisine and offers wide varieties of dishes that are not on their standard menu. Anything you can name she probably knows how to make it. We worked with her to customize the party menu with appetizers at the table and buffet style for the main meal. On the menu we decided on guacamole, teriyaki chicken skewers, sweet potatoes bite with ricotta, sitting salad, caprese bite, vodka penne, steak with chimichuri, chicken piccata, roasted veggies and potatoes, dulce de leche cheesecake and a chocolate dulce de leche cake. She even made two cakes for us so literally it's one stop shop. The space is pretty decorated already but Natalie added a few more touchesd for the room and table, which is super cute. She would check in throughout the party to make sure everything is going smoothly. Overall the party was a success and everyone was well fed. We also left with tons of leftover she packed for us to enjoy after. We are grateful for Natalie and would consider her catering service off site as well for future events. Very good brunch. Came here 2pm on a Saturday. They close at 3 and then reopen for dinner on Saturday, I didn't realize but because we got the breakfasts the ice tea was $2 off which was good. The homemade hibiscus ice tea was amazing. The flavor was so good and it was not too sweet. They put strawberries in it which was a nice touch. And also gave us complimentary fruit cups!! The food was super high quality. The Mexican breakfast dish I got was delicious. The beans were amazing, the chorizo had a great flavor and was not spicy. Loved the grilled cheese and the tortillas they provide. Also had slices of avocado and I got scrambled eggs. My husband got the shrimp tacos which had a spicy sauce on it that he loves. And my friend got the hue is rancheros and also like it. The waitress was super nice. I love that they have outdoor tables. It's a very casual and comfortable environment. I've been coming to Juany's for a while, and my family members are there biweekly. Their food is top-notch and never disappoints. The service is always excellent--even if you show up on a random Sunday after 11, they go above and beyond to ensure your meal is hot, fresh, and served with the best hospitality. I really wanted to like this place and gave it more chances than it probably deserves. During the last visit, the waitress dropped a glass of iced coffee, getting both coffee and broken glass on my wife. The restaurant didn't even comp her coffee. My salad was also missing multiple ingredients. If it were the food alone, I'd give it 4 stars. But Juany's loses 2 stars for the consistently bad service, because they charge for water, and because they add an automatic 20% gratuity. Do not recommend. read more

A beautiful small restaurant/bakery on busy street of Fairlawn, serving exceptionally tasty food. We went to Juany for Saturday lunch around noon. We got seats right away as it wasn't busy at that point. There's a small parking lot as well as street parking available (st parking free on weekends). Inside the restaurant, they check temperatures and make sure everyone have sanitized their hands. Each table is separated by curtain dividers for customer safety. Their menu have decent variety of items. We ordered chicken quesadilla, streak with eggs and shakshuka. Items came within few minutes. They serve all items in to-go containers. All items tasted extremely delicious, but the Shakshuka stole the show for me. It was one of the best I have had in a while. It was creamy, full of tomato jest, and some sprinkle of cheese with two sunny side eggs just made it heavenly. From now on, if I crave for Shakshuka, Juany would be where I'd go. The staff were really friendly and helpful. They made sure we are having an excellent dining experience. We were really excited to have found this restaurant as a brunch/lunch option. Step inside to the counter and escorted to a quiet dining room. High chairs available with gracious/understanding staff in dealing with a 2 yr. old at the table. Very creative and unique dishes. #FirstTimerAlert here because this is the first time I've had dinner there. Ordered Hummus with pita/veggies, and the Ceviche de Mahi-Mahi (Pictured) which is Raw fish cured in fresh squeezed lime juice seasoned with Peruvian spices, accompanied potatoes, peruvian corn, sweet potato and garnished with red onion. I gave 4 stars, three years ago based on the fact that I never ate at Juany's, only Take Out. But now that I have eaten there a few times, it has to have all 5 stars. Juany and his wife Natalie are awesome. They bring years of experience to this first restaurant of theirs. ( Don't forget its BYOB) They do a Breakfast Enchilada with the best Mole sauce I have ever eaten anywhere. Every ingredient is so fresh & made from scratch. Believe it or not, they make an excellent hummus served with fresh slices of cucumber, tomato, and of course pita chips. I had a Special one Sunday of Costa Rican origin: Chifrijo! A mixture of clow cooked rice & beans (taco taco), tortilla chips (always house made), salsa criolla, pork belly confit ( very juicy & meaty, not too fatty) and an over easy egg. What a dish! ( CAL= California \west coast style as opposed to TEX ( Texas)- MEX) I can tell you this about Juany's...They CARE about what they are using, how it is cooked, and the satisfaction factor of their meals. Great place for breakfast. I feel like I got my money worth here. I go out, and get something different than what I normally cook at home. Had latin benedict with short ribs and shrimp and grits. I initially wished for the grits to be little thicker, but man it was good the way it is. It's savory with a little hint of curry. Loved my first time to this relaxing friendly restaurant. Nice man greeted me and took care to check how things were throughout. The food was freshly prepared - I had a loaded HR and it was tasty and filled with pulled chicken in a nice sauce. It was loaded but not heavy. It was on the brunch menu and I thought I had read it came with coffee. I asked if it came with it and the manager said "it can" and gave me the cup of coffee. I think he gifted it to me. After reading the reviews, we came here after an ophthalmologist appointment. We got immediately seated after checking in. The restaurant is small, but roomy, with the dining area being in a separate room. The dining room consists of neutral colors like white, black, and brown. There are tables meant for large groups as well as tables that are meant for 4-5 people. Two paintings hang by the corner, with one of them sitting on a small "counter" and the other hanging on a wall. Hubs ordered the Latin Style Benedict, which is spinach with over easy eggs, bacon, avocado, huancaina sauce on toasted English muffin served with a side of home fries. He said that he was okay with it and didn't realize there was bacon because he didn't read it fully. It was okay but he said that he would order something else next time. Next, daughter ordered Fully Loaded Huevos Rancheros, which is topped with black beans, pull pork, avocado, crumble queso fresco and cream on corn tortillas. She said that she liked it and thought it was really good. However, she felt that she's had better elsewhere. Lastly, I ordered Chilaquiles Verdes, which is tortilla chips bathed in roasted salsa verde, topped with 2 over easy eggs, crumbled queso fresco with sliced onion and Mexican crema. Bangin' Mexican/Peruvian inspired brunch. They have rotating brunch specials and you can also order from the regular lunch menu. I got the mar y tierra - cheesy skillet omelette filled with brisket and topped with shrimp, avocado, tomato and sour cream. The eggs were cooked to perfection and enjoyed every cheesy bite. The garlic toasts were a nice touch. Mains come with unlimited tea or coffee. They give you a bunch of flavored gourmet teas to choose from. The huevos rancheros and crab Benedict were also very good. We ordered tres leches for dessert which was very moist and cinnamony. Finally made it to brunch! Wanted to go into NYC but didn't have the time and then I remembered Juany's. So glad I did! We were greeted when we walked in and had a seat in the less formal area when you walk in which was fine since we didn't have reservations. (Not to self-you know reservations for any popular brunch spot are mandatory - you're lucky you got a seat so quickly! ) Now back to the review- we were seated quickly and given menus. There was the regular menu and the brunch special menu with several items. There were so many items that looked delicious but I had my eye on trying the shakshuka for a while so I went with that and it did not disappoint. In fact it was delicious. It consisted of a thick and hearty spicy tomato sauce which for all intents and purposes could definitely be called a tomato stew topped with . over easy eggs. I don't like my eggs too runny and they were fine with preparing mine over medium. Wow! Again it was delicious and I'd return just for this dish! Hubby had the mar y tierra which was eggs served in a skillet with brisket and shrimp. It was topped with fresh avocado and tomatoes! Brunch started with fresh fruit. The coffee served was great just like I remember. The place was busy so definitely make a reservation for Sunday brunch if that's when you're looking to go.
