Came here for dinner for the first time and this was my favorite meal out of both 2024 and 2025. It was that good. I ordered the quail and hubs got the elk burger and old fashioned. The quail was cooked perfectly and came with a tapenade sort of delicious sauce that I'm still dreaming about. And the mashed potatoes it came with were incredible. The ceasar salad was also amazing--dressing was impressive. Hubs said the burger was great too. Ambiance was upscale and cozy at the same time. Definitely an aesthetic that makes you leave all your problems at the door because you're swept into an enjoyable dining experience. Service was fantastic. 9/5/2025 5pm We were at the Sq in Georgetown for the 1st Friday "concert on the lawn". Had a glass of wine at Georgetown Winery and the folks there recommended the Golden Rule, right off the square, as a great place for appetizers and dinner. Weather was mild so we chose to eat outside. We were greeted by our waitress Val, who has a smile bigger than Dallas. Val recommended a couple of excellent appetizers and we decided to split a double patty smash burger. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was awesome. All and all, a wonderful evening ! Maybe it was Sunday night?? Service was HORRIBLE. Our server basically blew us off. Refills on water was excruciatingly slow, we ordered an appetizer which came with the entrees, and it pays as a server to know your menu ("is the turkey sandwich hot or cold"; her answer, "i don't know, I've never had it". Nice.). The shishito peppers (our appetizer/entree) were very good. The French dip sandwich (warm by the way) was "meh"... and I got charged $2.00 extra for cheese that was listed as part of the sandwich?? Other entrees were "okay" but nothing to cheer about when the service was so lacking. Obviously this place is a nice meet up spot for locals, and I'm willing to concede that Sunday night service might be the "B" squad, but this was a huge let down tonight. read more

Stopped in on a Monday night. The patio was comfortable in Texas Aug heat with the fans going. The Moscow Mules were a perfect refreshing compliment to the Cantonese Riblets that had a little bit of heat. The bartender, Page, provided great service with an endearing smile. First time here and was on the bucket list. You can't tell there is a restaurant from the front of bldg or that there is a patio unless you see from the east side of bldg. Perfect weather today to sit on patio. Food was pretty tasty, great service. Went on Wednesday of Spring Break. Not packed at 3pm but more patrons as dinner time rolled in. Parking on street wasn't bad either. Debated between a salad and a burger. Choose salad and wasn't disappointed but will be back for that burger :) They do have some weekday specials, hard to tell what is or isn't on special as the menu doesn't effect that. Must ask waiter. What a way to while away a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The hype is real The Golden Rule is a great addition to downtown Georgetown. As others have noted there is a spacious patio and very comfortable bar area, and a dining area with a few private dining rooms. On this beautiful day, the windows were open to the patio so we could enjoy the beautiful breeze. We only visited their bar for drinks and Appies but will definitely return to dine. Service at the bar was excellent our mixologist yes mixologist provided me with two perfect old fashions. Plus 1 ordered one of their vodka-based specialty drinks and I can verify that it was perfect for a sunny afternoon. Check out their online cocktail menu there is something for everyone. They do have an excellent whiskey and bourbon selection with the usual assortment of local brews like Pint House and Meanwhile. We chose their Spicy Pimento spread as our App. It was not as spicy as I expected but our bartender said it is made fresh every day and the heat levels vary. The golden rule is a vibe...in the best way possible. Upon walking in you can tell it's a Georgetown staple for friends to meet up at and connect. Upon walking to the host they asked " did we need something"..which was odd for a welcome but they got us a table promptly after we let them know we wanted to dine. Our waitress was phenomenal! The best part of the Golden Rules visit. They were friendly, informative and sold us on our entree choices of wagyu stroganoff and red fish. I was beyond excited to try the stroganoff and sadly it lacked flavor, texture and authenticity. The sauce was lacking and the mushrooms ratio was low. The pappardelle pasta was good and the noodle texture and flavor on point. The lack of sauce combined with the steak though took away from the pasta as a stand alone instead of complimenting it. The red fish was okay with broccolini and rice. I will say even though our meal was lacking in some flavor the entirety is a solid try. First timers on a Friday night and all I can say is 10/10. Food was steamy, hot, delicious. Our server Azul was very attentive and happy to walk us through our orders I was torn between the Steak Frites or Stroganoff and she sold me on that Stroganoff by description alone! My other friends got the Pecan Crusted fried chicken, and Steak Frites. We tried everyone's food and wow.. Ambiance was interesting I can appreciate the art around the restaurant. Drinks were 10/10, were brought fast, I ordered the Not So Cool and asked for a recommendation similar to it and our waitress recommended a Pissed machete! Would come back just for that alone. My friend and I arrived with no reservation, but still managed to score a table inside the restaurant quickly. With this being Friday night of the Georgetown Christmas Stroll, this was no mean feat. The restaurant is large, charmingly decorated, and a little loud depending on who is sitting at the bar. We each tried 2 different cocktails, and all of them were delicious. These bartenders know what they are doing. I had the carne asada fries, and they were amazing! The use of refried great northern beans as a base was genious. You can get as much as you want, and the fries don't get soggy. No complaints about this dish as all. I ordered it as my dinner, and was unable to finish it. This place is an absolute gem to go to in Georgetown! I have been to a few places on the square but this one is fancy and lovely. I will be a continuing customer and bring many people here! The ambiance is great, they have an awesome patio to sit at if the weather permits. The food is great and they have a nice variety! I definitely will bring people here to impress them! We stumbled upon this place on a night out on the main square and what a great find it is. First, they have a great covered patio with fans and nicely designed. Next, yummy cocktails...yes please! Also the food is good too. We also had some late night nibbles (community plates) since we were a little hungry. We ordered the Cantonese riblets and the brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were definitely the standout dish. I wish I would have gotten 2 orders. The drinks were also well made and were refreshing on a hot night. I had this place bookmarked for a year (don't live in the area) and have been very excited to try it. My high hopes were sadly way too high for this establishment. The good was the lady who took my call when I asked if they could sit a table of 6 prior to coming in. She was super pleasant and told me "Of course no problem we have plenty of tables". That was in fact the case when we arrived on a Saturday (last week) at 12 p.m. We got sat instantly and our server greeted us fairly quickly along with taking our order and getting us our waters. So far, so smooth, until it wasn't... It took ONE whole hour for our food. To put it in context, we ordered VERY simple meals. 3 kids meals, 1 golden dip sandwich, 1 smash burger, and 1 fried fish sandwich, 0 apps or anything else. All extremely simple meals, that should not take an hour to make. Mind you, there was one other larger party of 6-8 there, and I maybe saw a total of 4 other small tables in the whole place. One of my biggest frustrations of the whole situation, is I understand when the kitchen is backed up or something occurs that is going to delay our food, but simply as a server communicate that to us. Dont have us in limbo for a straight hour not stopping by once to give us an update. We finally got the "I know the food is taking long, it should be coming out soon" right at the hour mark, about 30 minutes too late than when you should have. To add salt to the wound, none of us liked our food. The kid's tenders were burnt and overcooked. We informed the manager, not in hopes of a new batch, we didn't want to wait another hour, but just so he is aware. When he came out, he didn't even come to the right table, this just shows how unorganized they are. When we informed him, he didn't seem to truly care at all, but at least he did the right thing and took them off our bill. My mother is not picky, but she was not able to finish her fish sandwich. It was extremely bland. The same goes for my golden dip. I am a sucker for a good sliced roast beef with au jus. There was no flavor at all, I could only finish half of it. My tip to the chef who made this, go try the one at Culinary Dropout, they know how to make this sandwich. My father's burger was decent, but that man hardly complains so who knows. I will say, everyone liked the fries at least! This place seems good for the cocktails, those were flying left and right for the other party next to us with no delay. The Deviled eggs were fresh, with a hint of a honey aftertaste. I wish they could've been a few degrees colder, but is is a personal preference that shouldn't be included as fact about the eggs. The guacamole was also fresh, but the chips were mediocre and did not accompany the quality of the guacamole well as a result. The brunch buffet was decent. When we arrived the buffet was pretty empty and sad but 15 minutes later it was replenished. There were no labels and the room was dark so it was hard to see. A woman thought the refried beans was polenta. Labeling items should be fairly simple. The biscuits were great and salads were fresh. My mom loved the French toast while I enjoyed the brussel sprouts and chocolate muffin. The waiter did a good job and everything was OK until the end. A family of 5 was being seated at a dirty table next to us. The table was never cleaned after the previous party. The young hostess simply wiped food off the table with her hand while the family sat down, then handed them silverware. I try not to give below 3 stars, so being fair. Nice place, great interior and porch. I got a newer menu item, the blackened pork chop. It was nearly uneatable. So unbelievably salty and the seasoning was so think it nearly made it chalky. Wedge was great, the roasted carrots on the chop was good. We left half on the plate. By the looks I was expecting much higher pricing on the menu but it was fairly priced. We ordered the carne asada fries, fried shrimp, a beer and a soda. Everything came out in a good amount of time. The fries were the star for sure. Excellent taste. Great queso, the meat was tender ( I do wish better seasoned though), the fries well cooked. Great appetizer. The shrimp were good as well.
