The food and wine paired perfectly, making the entire evening feel special. The star of the night was the Lobster Waffle it was heavenly--creative, flavorful, and absolutely unforgettable. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender, juicy, and full of flavor. An Exceptional Dining Experience!!Between the outstanding service, gorgeous atmosphere, incredible food, and wonderful wine selection, this restaurant truly exceeded expectations. Special thanks to Lauren, Jason and Chef Josh!!Definitely a must-visit for anyone looking for an elevated dining experience!

We had an excellent dining experience at Sombramesa. I started with the Duke's Old Fashioned, a…read moremezcal-based cocktail that was smooth, smoky, and very well balanced--definitely a drink I'd order again. For the tapas, we began with the Uni Toast. The uni was fresh and delicious, and the caviar was excellent. My only criticism is that it's a single piece of toast, so at $16 it felt a bit pricey, even though the quality was outstanding. The tomato salad was another highlight. The tomatoes were fresh and flavorful, and the aioli brought everything together beautifully without overpowering the dish. Our favorite savory dish was the braised cabbage. It arrived as essentially half a cabbage--about the size of a brain--which made it a little awkward to eat. That said, the flavors more than made up for the presentation. The gochujang barbecue sauce was rich and slightly sweet with just the right amount of heat, and the roasted oyster mushrooms complemented the cabbage perfectly. Overall, Sombramesa delivered a fantastic meal with creative, high-quality food and excellent service. While a couple of dishes leaned toward the expensive side for their portion size, the quality of the ingredients and the execution made for a memorable experience. We'd happily return!

If you are there to sit and sip, you go up to the register and start a tab. They give you a lil' hotel key looking card that is attached to the tab you started. And then you self-serve around via the contraptions holding the available wines for tasting. You insert the card, select the wine you want a pour of, and what volume of the wine you want dispensed in to your glass. The machines show you what each amount of each variety costs and you get as much as you want when you want. It is fun and convenient, and then you get to sit and sit at some tables set among the quantities of wine available for purchase. When you are done, you go up to the register to tally up and close out. They have a good variety and range of wines available for tasting and purchase, red and white, dry to sweet. The staff is friendly and happy to answer any questions or steer you in a direction you might be interested in going. We had a delightful time here and I would absolutely return for a visit on a future trip to Savannah!

We walked in and were directed to the cashier to get us checked in. She handed us wine glasses and a paper with the wines we were going to be tasting. We then went to a lady who gave us three wines to try and she was so pleasant, funny and kind! Also the other people who were there to try the wines were great too! After we tried three wines, we went to another lady to try three more wines! She was just as kind and funny! We were also given light snacks and water to have as we tried the wines. We were also given so much facts about the wines we were tasting and we learned so much! The inside is beautiful and it really does feel like you're in a wine cellar. I can't wait to come back and try another wine tasting event!

The prices…read morewere surprisingly reasonable, the bar had plenty of seating, and the drinks were strong enough to make you forget what day it was. The cocktails came in really cool tiki mugs that made for excellent pictures, and many of the mugs are available for purchase if you want to take home a little souvenir. The servers were also fantastic--friendly, attentive, and quick to keep the drinks flowing. The only real downside is that the décor is fairly light on the tiki atmosphere, and the experience could have used some proper tiki music in the background. Still, the drinks and service more than made up for it. There was also a rather unusual incident during our visit. A man burst into the bar wearing a giant bucket hat with a buckle and began demanding that everyone be arrested for witchcraft. He kept shouting, "You're all witches!" despite our repeated assurances that we were simply enjoying cocktails. I told him to calm down, but he refused. So, after finishing my fourth drink, I raised my glass and began reciting the menu backward. Suddenly, a bright blue light enveloped him. He screamed, vanished completely, and left behind nothing but the faint smell of coconut rum. Everyone in the bar applauded, and I was rewarded with free stickers and a drink stirrer. A marvelous evening, all things considered.

UPDATE: Raising my rating from 2 to 4 stars. After my review, the owner Tyler reached out…read morepersonally -- not just with a thoughtful response, but he located my check and issued a full refund without me ever asking for one. The refund came through exactly as he said it would. To be clear, the food on my visit genuinely missed, and I'm not pretending otherwise. But Tyler responded publicly, owned it, and followed through completely. That kind of accountability is rare, and it's what earned the bump. Credit where it's due on the space, too -- the ambiance is genuinely great. Warm, candle-lit dining room, an open kitchen, a well-stocked bar, and a covered patio that had a real buzz to it. It's a spot that looks and feels like somewhere you want to be, which is exactly why I'd give the kitchen another shot based on how the owner runs this place. --- Original review (2 stars): Disappointing birthday dinner. Came in for my birthday and left underwhelmed. Our server Troy was the one bright spot -- professional and attentive all night. Caesar salad: Several bitter pieces of lettuce, and no black pepper offered or available. Faroe Island salmon: Overly buttery like it had been sitting under a heat lamp. The shishito cream sauce was way too acidic -- tasted like uncooked wine or vinegar. Crispy rice cakes were bland and a strange pairing (rice blocks with salmon?). The baby bok choy was decent until the sauce drowned it out. Braised beef short rib: Tender but flavorless. The mashed potatoes tasted old, not fresh that evening. To top it off, my wife had arranged ahead of time for the birthday dessert to be brought out -- the message never reached Troy, so that moment never happened. Troy deserved better than what the kitchen sent out.
