Stopped by after seeing an ad in our hotel magazine. My son and I came for a bite to eat. We both had the Navajo taco and shared the posole appetizer. The food was really good and the servings were large. Definitely try the Navajo taco made with fry bread and pinto beans. I also recommend the posole as the appetizer to share. It comes in a cup with lots of tortilla chips to dip/eat with it. There was a group of people playing Celtic music the night we were there. I don't know if they were a scheduled act or just a group of friends jamming. Either way the band and the food were top notch. Regarding the service. What you do is go up to the bar to ask for menus and order food and drinks. They have water on the end of the bar for you to help yourself. The bartender (I think Danielle?)was friendly and was helpful on our food choice & my drink decision. Not sure, but if the place is haunted, my son may have had an encounter. He was in the bathroom alone when the outside door opened and banged shut. No one went in or out. Take it as you will. We will definitely be back this summer. read more

Last night I was assaulted by a bounce at this bar at bat close. Instead of respectfully informing us that we were out of time to finish our coctails, he grabbed my cup which was still in my mouth, aggressively and without any warning. The glass clicked against my tooth leaving me with pain in my mouth the next day. He then ripped the cup out of my friends hand so aggressively that the entire full drink sprayed our entire table of people. I attempted to get the man's name and both of the other staff members on duty told him to go inside and hide and refused to share his name so that I could file an assault report with the local police. The man is dangerous and should not be allowed to work with the public and the entire staff lied and refused to share his name to protect him. The man who assaulted us was average height, with a muscular build and light brown skin on Saturday July 13th. I will be pursuing this with local police but people deserve to know that going into this bar may result in you being assaulted and physically bullied by the staff. read more

I'm giving this place one star because I can't give it zero. We stayed at the hotel over the weekend and planned to watch some football at the hole on Saturday. The bartender was a complete jerk. It was pretty clear he thought he was a bad ass, but the only bad things at this place were his attitude and the service. Maybe it was because we didn't do legs that morning or were using the wrong hair product, but bro was not interested in helping us. The servers are nice. But the problem is, they don't SERVE! It took an act of God for one of them to stop by our table. The staff came off like they are entitled, disinterested little brats whose parents should've doled out a spanking or two. Stopped here fresh off a train from Chicago. Waited several minutes to be served. The drink list was brief and unoriginal. Prices were nearly on par with drinks in Boston, which we were soon to find was not the norm for Flagstaff. We had one round and waited ten more minutes for our server before finally paying at the bar. We were booked into the Hotel Monte Vista and found two bars there to be friendlier and more reasonably priced than this one. read more

This bar has an identity crisis. House music was blaring and it didn't feel like a Charly's bar. The service was below average and we ended up heading to the third floor bar which has the true feel if Charly's and the Flagstaff feeling that we were expecting. The whiskey sprite is good but it's hard to go wrong with two ingredients. Looking for a place to relax and hear some music, we came here. The band sounded good and to our surprise there wasn't a cover. Really nice surprise! We were looking forward to a pleasant evening. That's the only part of our night that earns a star. We easily found a table because they weren't all that busy. We discussed the menu that was already on the table and made our decisions. Then we waited. And waited. Guess what happened next- we waited. The four women who were sitting at the table next to us and had been waiting much longer than we had, so they walked out. We waited a few more minutes, then we left, too. We ended up at Flagstaff Brewing Company, which has great service and outdoor live music. Go there. read more

I guess people from Phoenix & Tucson are unimpressed with Flagstaff bars. I love this place! I go there at least weekly for trivia nights. The draft beer selection is great and the servers definitely remember the regulars and what they like. It has a great "Cheers" vibe, which is only enhanced by the exterior stairway to the outside street. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a chill place to hang out with friends and toss back a few beers. read more

I'm here right now and wish I wasn't. The navy bean "broth" was flavorful but the food wasn't hot. I had the steak quesadilla. It was room temperature. I won't come back here. The bartender was nice. The waitress was nice, but quite ditzy. Don't waste your time or money here. In fact, the service is so bad the group next to me just got up and left. I've been to the gopher hole twice and will never go back. The first time, two of my friends and I went, one of them is trans and still has an older ID from before. We were stopped at the door, no problem, every bar does this. We showed him our IDs and he looks at my two friends first, holds on to them and then takes mine and gives it back. He tells us that he has to confiscate their IDs because they are "obviously fake", they weren't. He tells us he is not giving them back and we can call a number to complain about it. We ask him for the number and rudely replies "I don't know, google it". So we called the number and we tell the bouncer that we want another employee to look at the IDs. He brings back another employee who looked at them with no problem and said that they looked fine and to give the IDs back. Of course, we left because who wants to go to a bar and be treated like this? Whoever this bouncer is, is homophobic and prejudice. Which brings me to story number two. I hesitantly went back to the gopher hole with some friends because they wanted to play some pool. We get there, it's the same guy. I'm pretty sure he recognized two of us because he took a loooong hard look at our IDs again. Shining them under a light bending them and stuff. He let's us in and we go straight to the pool tables. We PAID for a game of pool and started playing. A short while later the bouncer comes over to us and tells us that we cannot just play pool, we have to order drinks. At this point I was done with the gopher hole. I'm never going back. This bouncer was shortish/average height, brown hair, kind of a muscular build. Completely rude every single encounter I've had with him (just two encounters). I saw another review about an employee with the sane description as mine. My advice, don't go here. read more

I really want to love this place to be honest, but it can't be done. Some really great people work here, unfortunately so do a couple of the worst servers I've ever experienced. Food came out cold the past two times I've visited and I'm not talking lukewarm, I mean COLD. Had to ask server to just nuke food and get it back out, no discount or anything even offered, hah! It's possible to have a good time here, but prepare yourself by lowering your expectations to the lowest. I was very disappointed that they have the windows open and smoking spaces all along the side of the bar! The smoke comes in and it is just like being in a smoking bar. We went to see the Cadillac angels play and we had to leave because of the smoke. We never did get a waitress to wait on us even though the bar was extremely crowded. The bar itself has a nice atmosphere but good luck getting a drink. The bartenders are terrible. I am in the service industry so I always give people a break and the benefit of the doubt when I receive poor service but this is ridiculous. I was standing at the bar for probably 10 mins waiting on a bartender who was standing outside of the bar chatting and laughing with her friend. The other bartender was joking around with customers (obviously his friends) throwing ice back and forth with them. I was standing at the bar next to the people who were throwing ice back and forth with the bartender, respectfully holding my debit card. I was clearly waiting to be served, just watching them horse around with their friends. I made eye contact with both bartenders and neither broke away from their activities. I was finally, begrudgingly served as if I was breaking up their fun. Every time I come to this bar, the service is terrible. I avoid this place, but when I do go with friends I do not try to order anything, in order to save myself the trouble and frustration. read more
