Great atmosphere, there was even live music for a nice surprise especially since it was Friday night and it started at 5pm. The food was great, and not all that expensive. I had a beet salad that actually had nice sizes of beets, along with "whipped feta" (never had that before, quite good), tons of excellent greens, and what I think were pine nuts. My partner had the schnitzel which was also amazing. I also had some spanakopita as an appetizer which was light, fluffy, and delicious too. Service very attentive but then again we walked in right at 4pm, the opening time. I would go here again and again to try the unique menu items like cornish hen. Really really nice! Visited for lunch on a Saturday. I have been here before for brunch a while ago, figured that I'd try lunch this time. Nice decor, interesting building, prompt service, clean restrooms, friendly staff, lots of them, I counted 5 out front during my visit. The menu is somewhat limited, they went all in on the ,"Montreal Sandwiches" and "Chicken Sammies". Tried the tater tots. Disappointed. These were heavy in flour content and rather mushy, almost like a hush puppie rolled in shredded potatoes. Sour cream/ cheese sauce/ bacon placed on top. Not much flavor. Would not recommend. We had the Sweet and Spicy Chicken sandwich and the little bit Philly. Chicken sandwich- straight forward, cooked ok, large toasted bun, lettuce and tomato slice along with some red onion slivers. It was..a chicken sandwich. The philly- was out of a sandwich press, hard edges(burned), and a whole stack of Sysco Steak-Umms in there with a few pepper and onion slices with melted cheese. Not flaked out...just a flat stack of these gray colored meat-like slices. Half was attempted to be eaten without much success. Neither were remarkable, edible maybe. No accompaniments are provided with a sandwich, everything is as la carte. For the price point I'd assume a pickle spear or kettle cooked chips or a small cup of slaw or potato or mac salad, cucumber and tomato salad, etc., something to go with...or offered as an option I guess other than being offered just..fries. The menu is.. different. Nothing remarkable yet nothing usual on there. I can't figure out what this place is trying to be. Gastropub, no, sandwich joint, maybe, small plates, no, innovative American food, nope, not that either. $7 French Press coffee? How about offering coffee from the custom roast shop literally at the other end of the dining room? It's a let down because of the neat space it's in, as well a having a liquor license or at least selling alcohol. I guess that's why they're only open 26 hours per week. Not much else around there. Give it a try maybe the third time will be a charm. I'd hope that the owner or chef will read these reviews and respond... with changes. So much potential here. Judging by his review, I'm willing to bet John D. missed the mark a few times - in axe throwing, obviously ;) I never thought I'd use the word "zen" to describe a bar, but a step through the garden arch and that's exactly what I was feeling. It's like having dinner in a greenhouse! The tables are made out of old sewing machines and there are various antiques throughout the restaurant, making it a super unique space to see. The drinks are nothing to pass up. I had a raspberry lemonade cocktail which came in a cute honey bear glass. There a variety of beers and cocktails to choose from, I promise there's something for every taste. We came on a slow night so there's no complaint about the service. Our waitress was super sweet along with the rest of the staff we encountered. Highly recommend the Buffalo Chick Nachos. A huge portion of food and not a single soggy chip; the nachos themselves get 5 stars in my book. I had a Cuban and I can't say it was out of this world, but the goal of being full and satisfied was achieved. Put it this way: The Gorge could have easily take the "historic carbon county" route from being an old saw mill. But they didn't. If you're looking for history, just deal with the traffic and go to Jim Thorpe. Molly's, Broadway Grill, and Marion Hose will get you covered. Ok.....I visit this area quite frequently. There's not much around. You'll have to search really hard to find something good about 10 miles south . 5 miles north is touristy pretentiousness....5 miles north - those business owners exploit tourists so much that it's actually funny....but Weissport....? Weissport was on a list of the top 10 cities in PA that had the highest concentrations of Klan Klaverns (I'm not lying, look it up). So.... I get it.... this place is an attempt to "rebrand" Weissport as a well thought out destination for those visiting J Thorpe as well as a resting place (hostel) for hikers. I'm sorry to say - this place fails at both. Don't get me wrong, I'm not happy about it.... frequent readers of my posts know of my healthy disdain for Bethlehem and my growing fondness of carbon county but this place ain't it. First - the hostel is closed! When I heard about the hostel I thought it was a brilliant idea....right off of the D&L trail... simply brilliant....why it closed....no idea. The venue....hippy, earthy.....draws from the lumber mill that it sprang from.... again....I get it....it's an attempt to rebrand the borough.....it's just a biiiiiit too much too soon. Let's put it this way: hearing Ax throwers during brunch makes more sense in Weissport than the concept of brunch itself (I'm not even trying to condescend, just being honest). One look at the menu made me shake my head while asking, "what are you doing?" The Gorge offers "French pressed" coffee.... Canadian smoked meats.... Here's the deal, if I wanted my coffee pressed via France, I'd visit one of those coffee shops that proudly displays a rainbow flag out front. Canadian smoked meats?!?! Who the heck ever suggested Justin Trudeau and his crew of flunkies know how to smoke meat?!?! I'll give "our friends" to the north credit for hockey, but that's it!! I want AMERICAN coffee. I want AMERICAN smoked meats. I want to feel the historic legacy of Weissport (for those of you scratching your heads, Weissport has sincere historical significance). Let the french and canadians put mayo on THEIR fries (they actually do that). At the end of the day, I'd suggest slowly working in some old school traditional menu items.... something locals are proud to claim (not those Klaverns, though). Again, I get the attempt at "upgrading" the borough and it's image....I'm just of the opinion that the population isn't there yet to support the "liberal" tone of the establishment. This was a pleasant surprise, a hidden gem on my birthday. We enjoyed amazing drinks, appetizer, entrees, and dessert in a greenhouse-like atmosphere. Our waitress was lovely and attentive. They refused to cook an egg for me unless it was sunny side up or poached. I do not eat raw egg and don't appreciate being forced into it because a brunch place refuses to "cook to order" any meals. We were one of 2 tables in the whole restaurant. They were empty and still refused to flip an egg over for me. However, pictured below were some of the orders my table had delivered. So disappointed in this restaurant. They used to have an awesome menu, with good choices, and good food. We would go here multiple times a month. Now the menu has poor choices, and the food is not up to par considering the very high prices. Service is very slow - we were there last night, they were not full, and it still took forever. A little off the beaten path inside an old restored mill, this place is definitely worth a trip! I had the Irish egg rolls (corned beef/brisket and sauerkraut) which were the best I have ever had! All homemade, including the dipping sauce! Then, the buttermilk honey chicken sandwich was spot on! The chicken was high-quality and the coleslaw was a perfect compliment to the sweet honey glaze. My dining friend seemed to thoroughly enjoy her drunken shrimp appetizer and said her pork schnitzel was the best she had ever had, too (and she's a bit of a foodie snob!) I hosted my daughter's bridal shower in the private room. I was so pleased with the way it went! The room was spacious and open, allowing for plenty of mingling among the guests. The staff was very accommodating, and the food was delicious. Pre-shower communication with Brittany was wonderful. All expectations were clearly delineated, costs spelled out, and everything was delivered as promised. A slight billing error was taken care of before I even knew there was one! Delicious and adorable. The plants all over we're a lovely touch to the decor. Kept it quirky in a fun way with the stockings on the walls to pay homage to the old hosiery factory. The farm cheese curds were ridiculously light and tasty; the shrimp poppers were delicious as well. Everyone's entrees- steaks, burgers, shrimp and salmon were seasoned and prepared to perfection. We have visited this establishment several times since it opened and there is almost always an issue. First, $9 coffee. Go to uncommon grounds on the other side of the room and get a coffee. It's delicious. Mango mojito. $11. It wasn't a mojito and the mint leaf was floating on the top. Sunday brunch. The menu clearly states "consuming raw or undercooked meats...or eggs may increase your risk of foodborne illness" I was forced to have a sunny side, barely cooked, slimy egg on my weird rendition of huevos rancheros. I also couldn't have the dish without eggs. "We simply cannot cook EGGS to order because the grill is too small & the presentation wouldn't be the same". It doesn't take any extra room on the grill to flip an egg. What if I had an egg allergy? Would I be forced to have it anyway for the sake of presentation, maybe served with a side of Benadryl? This isn't Hell's Kitchen, it's Weissport. [similar to hell but I digress] Saturday lunch. I ordered a strawberry flatbread and requested to have light goat cheese. I was told our waitress would ask but they would most likely ignore her. Really? So my $12 overpriced strawberry flatbread that hardly had any strawberries on it can't be made with less cheese? It was not worth $12. [also, enough with the goat cheese] The poutine - yikes. The fries were almost hot, the gravy was bland and barely warm, and the cheese curds were cold. This place is too pricey for what you get. There are no chips, pickles, side salads, or complimentary bread; nothing extra. They close for private parties but the website still accepts reservations. You find out they are closed when you show up. No social media post. No website post. They didn't disable online reservations. One can only assume the doors are still open simply because there aren't many other options to choose from. I'd rather hit up a smaller place that is less pretentious, has reasonable prices, and understands the paying customer can request changes according to dietary preferences/needs. My advice is to only go here if you are ok with exactly how everything is made, otherwise, you'll be disappointed. Always have a backup plan because they run out of items regularly. 4 Stars and a strong contender for best high end food (at reasonable prices) in Lehighton/Weissport/Jim Thorpe area! We are NYC foodies in town for a while and looking for some decent places. When we first got here, we heard about this new restaurant and was disappointed that it (and all restaurants in the area) was closed due to a pandemic. This week they open for take out with a limited menu and we jumped on it. We ordered Crab Bisque, Drunken Shrimp, and BBQ Ribs. All are highly recommended but we were extra pleased by the Crab Bisque, a taste of Maryland in inner PA! We soaked up the last drop of Drunken Shrimp sauce with the included garlic bread! BBQ Ribs was tasty although a touch dry. We added a little more BBQ sauce to make it perfect for our taste. The Gorge Eatery made it to our regular rotation! Btw, I rounded up to 5 based on local comparisons. Normally, we have a extremely high bar for 5 stars and gave it to Morimoto's in Philly and other extraordinary places. But this place is a very solid 4 star place and favorite in its area. read more

Service was pleasant and the atmosphere was open and not loud as it often gets in some smaller venues. We had the Irish egg rolls, Mac Daddy chicken sandwich and the Korean bbq tacos. The service was extremely slow. We had reservations at 6:30 they promptly sat us . It took him about 10 minutes just to just to get water. LONG story, to sum it up, service was extremely slow, The quesadillas basically had nothing in it for 14 & 16$ ( they should be on the appetizer menu, not a dinner menu) The chicken sandwich was like a hockey puck on a burnt bun. And this fish and chips were so soggy, they were like mashed potatoes inside. HORRIBLE! The only thing that was good was the appetizers. If you enjoy only one drink when you go out you'll be fine, but it takes about 25 minute's to get one. We are repeated customers and were greatly disappointed read more

Loved the food and decor! From the outside you wouldn't expect what's going on inside. Once an old silk and textile mill, you can feel the history inside with a variety of patterns of hosiery spread out around the restaurant. The botanicals, lighting and finish work around the restaurant make for a great setting. The server was courteous & helpful and the bar tenders had lots of energy for an early Sunday afternoon. The Flatbread with crumbled goat cheese, apple cranberry chutney, prosciutto, herb oil, arugula was an amazing starter. The chicken sandwiches were delicious (we tired the Honey 2.0 & California) and the poutine was to die for!! Introduced my girlfriend to poutine for the first time and she was blown away by how much flavor they were able to pack into something so simple. The Gorge did it right!... and don't forget to check out UnCommon Grounds at the Mill for their delicious cafe' drinks for the road. read more

We attended the French-inspired wine dinner on 4/26. The first course was sourdough bread service which was delicious. Next was a soufflé with Gruyère and tarragon. This was also very good. The soufflé was followed by a seared scallop and ratatouille course. The scallop was perfectly cooked and the ratatouille was excellent. I had the chicken entree and my wife had the mushroom vol au vent. Both were delicious but I found the chicken to be the better dish as the skin was nice and crispy and the meat was soft and juicy. Dessert was lavender vanilla custard which was good on its own but too sweet to pair with the dessert wine. The service was great and sous chef Avery did a wonderful job of explaining the planning and ingredients of each course. The one major drawback was the amount of hard surfaces in the dining room which created a lot of noise. The food and service get 5 out of 5 stars. The wine pairings get 4 out of 5 stars. The facility gets 4 out of 5 stars due to noise. I can't wait to go back and I hope there are more events like this wine dinner in the future. read more

We almost turned around and left because there was no Sign outside the id the location but Wow ...there was a beautiful sign inside and of the food and drinks were great. Caesar salad was a unique great taste My steak was medium rare, not medium as ordered, But it didn't matter it was delicious with the compound butter. The lavender blueberry lemonade my daughter ordered was awesome, so I had to have one too! The blueberry galette with ice cream was wonderful delight like I've never tasted before...again AWESOME . We stopped at this restaurant on our way out of Pa. Again, we turned to Yelp and saw this had 5 stars. It's an old Mill turned into two eateries. Very open and loved the brick and hardwood floors. One is a coffee shop and the other a restaurant. My husband and son ordered a Biscuit Chicken sandwich with fries and I had the Montrealer and it was good also came with poutine which I have never had before but they were tasty. I gave it 5 stars because the food was good but there is a limited menu and no burgers (which my son was disappointed). But definitely give it a try. read more

Pretty awful experience. We ordered an appetizer that was drunken shrimp. I have never seen shrimp so small provided to a customer. The sauce was awesome, but it included only two tiny pieces of bread. I personally ordered a brisket sandwich. It came out with the cheese hard and not melted as the sandwich was cold. Ad an added point,, the restaurant was in no way crowded. Although we felt the prices are very high for the Lehighton, Pennsylvania area we are always willing to pay for good food. This will be our first ...and last... visit to this establishment. I would like to say that our server was absolutely wonderful. It is not her fault that the food was subpar. read more

The Tots of Gold are Hand rolled shredded potato tater tots topped with aioli. Totally exceeded my expectations -no commercial processed tater tots here! I'll never say no to duck fat potatoes. The fact that they are coupled with pork schnitzel made my day. Buttermilk breaded chicken sandwich is also worth a return. read more

We were looking for a good lunch spot outside of Jim Thorpe and stumbled on this gem. Slightly hipsterish industrial vibe, with well chosen alt rock tunes playing on Sonos, inside an old silk mill. The menu was fun and eclectic, with lots of choices for my vegetarian husband. The big round tater tot's and glazed Brussels sprouts were delicious and my fish tacos were fresh and tasty. We were a bit over the top surprised as this place was so much better than we were lead to expect. We loved the ambience, surrounded by plants and the warm sunlit windows. My husband and I went here Fri. 7/15 around 6pm. The place is very nice inside however that is all that was positive about our experience. It took almost 15 minutes for someone to greet us at our table and ask for our drinks, by then we already knew what we wanted so we ordered right away. My meal was very good but the description said it came with asparagus wrapped in bacon but they sent out plain green beans. I didn't mind too much but I wanted to let our waitress know that they put the wrong item on my plate for the next person who orders my meal and she apologized. Then a minute later she comes out and said that they didn't even have asparagus and that it shouldn't be on the menu. This is something the waitress should have known in advance and should have told me when I was ordering. Our other meal, my husband ordered a pressed sandwich. We've had pressed sandwiches before but this thing came out like a pancake with basically nothing on it. It was supposed to be chicken but looked more like deli chicken meat and was missing a few toppings. The whole sandwich couldn't have been more than an inch high...it was very disappointing to say the least. And the prices are not cheap! After tip it was almost $50 and probably one of the worst meals we have had in a long time. Also the live music was not very good either. read more
