I love Central Market. If you're familiar with the H-E-B family of stores, this is the high-end…read moreversion. H-E-B is more mid-market, Joe V's is the bargain end, and Central Market is the crown jewel. And honestly, shopping here is an experience. Much like IKEA, the store is designed to lead you through the entire place, so you're constantly seeing something else that makes you think, "Oh, I need that." They carry tons of regional specialties, including plenty that aren't even from Texas, plus an impressive selection of prepared foods. The bakery is lovely, and the meat section is downright glorious. We happened to be here at the tail end of Hatch chile season, which is apparently a VERY real thing. Every August, Central Market celebrates with about two weeks of Hatch chile everything. We're talking marinated meats, salsas, chips, cheeses, dips, even cookies. Basically, if they can put a Hatch chile in it, they will. We bought a few things to take home and try later, but we also grabbed an Asian chicken wrap with sweet potato fries from the cafe. Delicious, and easily enough for two people to split. Come hungry, come curious, and give yourself plenty of time. This is not a "run in for milk" kind of grocery store.

Honestly, I was surprised Central Market had made-to-order food -- and even more surprised by how…read moregood it was. On top of that, it was actually pretty budget-friendly, which made it even better. Service was great, and the ambiance was really pleasant and comfortable. The food felt fresh and healthy, and the whole environment just made the experience easy to enjoy.

We tried multiple options- my kiddo is newly GF. Still my favorite is the pound cake out of all the options we had. My daughter and I both really enjoyed the oatmeal cream pie the best! Close 2nd for her, prob the pineapple upside down cupcake. The fried Doughnut is a very dense cake-like. We'd rather go with the doughnut than the doughnut holes. Definitely recommend!! The employees were so kind with a smile (even with the line out the door for a good hour while we were there). We also got a $12 GF sandwich loaf- haven't tried that yet. Will most likely freeze it!!

My daughter recommended this place, and I'm so glad she did! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by Ms. Jay, whose friendly smile and genuine hospitality made us feel right at home. We ordered a hot Matcha Latte with milk ($5.00), a hot Chai Tea Latte ($4.75), and a hot Drip Coffee ($4.00). To satisfy our sweet tooth, we shared a delicious Pineapple Upside-Down Cupcake ($4.50) and a Honey Granola Almond Bar. The Matcha Latte was smooth, rich, and full of flavor. The Chai Tea Latte was absolutely delicious, and my drip coffee was fresh, hot, and just what I was hoping for. Everything we tried was wonderful. Since this cozy café is so close to home, I'll definitely be stopping by more often. If you're looking for a relaxing place to enjoy a great cup of coffee and a tasty pastry, I highly recommend Pinch of Salt Pastries & Coffee. I hope to see you there!
