Every contact I've had with Grain Shed employees has been more than pleasant; they truly seem to enjoy working there, and take good care of their customers. I need to shout out to Toby and Audrey before I go on. They each provided 110% on customer service, being personable and making sure we left happy. On 2 separate trips to Spokane, I've visited the Grain Shed 3 and 4 times over the course of 3 days (yes, if you do the math, I went twice in 1 day, and the restaurant was NOT just around the corner!) Everything I've tried is delish, but in case you have to limit yourself, I highly recommend the OG, the beets and feta toast, the bread flight with sauces and cheese, the molasses ginger cookie, and maybe a chocolate croissant. I've heard their bread pudding and pumpkin pie (holiday special) are out of this world! I tried to get over to listen to their live music before leaving town, but still need to squeeze that into my schedule. Travelers: save space in your luggage for a loaf of bread. The Grain Shed was on my list for Spokane area breweries for quite a while and so it was a good feeling getting it marked off and trying it out! The Grain Shed does a farm to table model and is a bakery and brewery. I got a snack here along with a beer and left quite satisfied. I got a Grilled Cheese Sandwich on some of their house made bread with some Cheddar, Swiss and Provolone cheese. The exact name for this sandwich is the Cheesy Toastie. And of course moving on to the beer... the primary motivator to come here. I got the Kölsch beer here called Field Trip. I do love a good Kölsch as they are nice, light bodied beers. And they are especially nice in the summertime. Flavor features in this beer is maltiness, breadiness, a bit of hoppiness and a dry finish. Another beer that Steve and I tried was the INWPA which was a Pale Ale. It was also a nice light bodied beer which again hit the spot despite it being a different drinking session. What an awesome lunch stop! Fresh baked breads and beer - how could we not? The sandwiches were huge and delicious. We had the corned beef special and also got their OG on focaccia. The beer was right on the other side of the room and had $10 flights (4 big pours). We tried their Field Trip (Pilsner) Murky Wood (Hazy IPA) the Acronyms DIPA and the Cranberry Pineapple Kombucha. All super refreshing, not crazy bitter, perfect for a warm day. Lunch was so good we got some of their marinated peppers, olives and pate and their pink peppercorn and walnut bread to go. This place is hopping on a Sunday morning and carries an incredibly varied selection of breads baked from a number of different grains grown and ground by the owners. This is probably one of the top 5 bakeries I've ever been to. While they specialize in bread, they also have cookies, pizza, sandwiches, and a ton of local craft beer options. The store itself has a cool east vibe and the staff matches that with a smile. The person who helped us out was really nice and personable once we got to talking and the whole experience was really great I started with a Nelson cookie which had the perfect balance of salty, sweet, crunchy, chewy, creamy and I loved the unique blend of flavors. Best cookie I've ever had. She also packaged two loaves to go for me to travel home with. I got the culture club ciabatta and the purple Egyptian wheat which were both super fragrant and soft. They had a nice crunch crust and they held for days while I used them up. They both had the pleasant sourness associated with sourdough and a nice big crumb texture. The purple wheat was nutty and crunchy and really great with a peanut butter and jelly! We also got a lunchbox toast to go. The bread was thick cut, the jam was really sweet and tart and the overall toast had an awesome texture.
