I thought the food was delicious. It started with some fresh fruit and then we had our choice of broccoli cheese or tomato basil soup. A few girls in our group got each and both were enjoyed very much. The pastry tower was really lovely. Standouts for me were the egg salad sandwich, shepherds pie and chocolate mousse. This was not just Tea, this was a bounty of tea, they had so many different types and flavors of tea (40+) that you sort of want to try them all, while technically you can as the tea is unlimited, but trust me you won't as the two pots of tea you start with, is a lot of tea for two! Sure, in a larger group you can try a lot more, but it's still a lot of tea. The Grand Tea, High Tea option was what we went with, and you started with a soup, followed by a tiered selection of sandwiches, desserts and scones. I assumed that I would have a snack here and then get something else to actually eat but I was filled to the brim when I left here. Its pretty cool you that you can find a high tea place in SD county. I've always wanted to do this (Bridgerton and Downtown Abbey are to blame) and this place does make you feel like you're a part of those worlds. The staff are all very nice and attentive. The teas we like tried were the Creme Brulee, Crime of Passion (my fave), Pai Mu Tan, Apricot Ginger (2nd fave). Twice, four of us went and both times we were told that only two pots were allowed on the table at once. That meant that the four of us had to agree on two teas. We could later change teas, but at one time, we'd have to share two teas. When I expressed surprise at this, the owner said that if the server isn't busy, she might be able to bring a third choice. I have been to probably every tearoom in the city and many abroad; in every case, each patron was allowed her or his own pot of tea unless they were sharing the same tea. Very strange. We had a Saturday reservation for 1:45 - once you check in a the front desk, they had everyone wait until 1:45 to be seated. They start you off with a fruit creme while you peruse through the menu - we had the option to add soup to our order but opted out. We had a blend of sweet and savory desserts and snacks for our 3 - tier snack platter and everything was good! My favorite tea was their French Creme Brulee - highly recommend getting that one! Their service can be a bit slow at times and there was a bit of downtime before we had our second round of teapots. Our Leather & Lace event was a few years in the making. I remember casually brainstorming in the midst of a tattoo session w: my artist on some creative women's motorcycle events. And we both discussed how we'd think the idea of a high afternoon tea with our gals in some of our leather gear feeling cutesy and fancy, sipping on tea w/ our pinkies up and nibbling on finger sandwiches would take things to the next level. Trying to figure out a date (Grand Tea Room is closed on Sundays) that'd be suitable for most gals to attend, but it was a success. Many factors why The Grand Tea Room was the perfect choice for our group- is being in Escondido, plenty of free parking (although road work is currently underway on Grand Ave from Maple St thru Kalmia). But, no shortage of public parking lots nearby. The reservation capacity maximum is 14. And that was perfect. I misunderstood when our initial over the phone reservation was made. I was under the assumption that your credit card would be charged for the total headcount if nobody in the party showed up. Since our booking had 13- only 11 of us showed up. And the 2 that weren't able to make it (due to emergencies)- those glasses Venmo'd me their share of cost, before we arrived. Please make sure this information amongst your large party- to avoid confusion and have transparency. The Grand Tea Room goes thru such beautiful lengths to have great quality food made ahead of time for each headcount. And if this policy of theirs weren't enforced- that's loss revenue on their end. We had the 1:45pm Saturday afternoon reservation. And all tables were a full house. It was such an elegant event amongst friends, old and new. Staff thoroughly explained how tea service will start. The fresh fruit cup of pineapple, strawberries, and blueberries with a cream cheese and whip cream- was a light was to start our coursed meal. With our large group- we were able to choose 4 teas to start off with. One being chai- what's not mentioned in the tea menu (from what I remember) is there being white AMD chocolate chai! We collectively chose chocolate chai! Tomato Bisque and a seasonal soup will be offered for the Grand Tea menu. I feel, imo- tomato bisque is offered anywhere and often. For the current seasonal soup- Cheddar Broccoli. My very first spoonful- was the absolute best tasting Cheddar Broccoli. Once I got to the bottom of my soup bowl, I couldn't let the tiniest bit pooled at the bottom go to waste! So, I was glad to see I wasn't the only gal in our group to dunk a finger sandwich at the bottom to absorb all the yum yums. From the quality of the breads used for the finger sandwich- not sure if it's pumpernickel bread used for the egg salad sandwich. But, you will feel how light and soft the bread is. The Million Dollar bar reminds me of a Milano cookie, for some reason. For the savory- I picked the Green Chili Chicken. Oooh! And another tasty item. I've had a wonderful experience of afternoon tea in London, a few years ago. And everything here at The Grand Tea Room met all of my expectations of what to expect. I braved the construction on Grand to try The Grand Tea Room for the first time, and I am so glad I did! The entrance has a lovely assortment of gifts and warm, welcoming feel. I dropped in without a reservation but was accommodated for high tea in their dining room. The dining room is so cozy and beautifully themed. It was also full of chatting friends and other tables enjoying tea. A truly lovely ambiance. The service was friendly and prompt. Sometimes as a solo diner, I get ignored a bit, but not here. I felt like I was having tea with a friend. The tea was perfect. I ordered Darjeeling and they let me know that the tea was unlimited refills and welcomed me to try other flavors, but I stuck with Darjeeling today. Nice to have the options, though! My order came with soup, savory, sandwiches, scones, and sweets. Lots of S! The soup was tomato basil and came out piping hot. It might have been my favorite! The sandwiches were chicken salad, cucumber, and egg salad. They were all lovely and traditional. I would love to see their take on coronation chicken salad. I guess the stars aligned and I was able to snag the BEST time slot on the Saturday before Mother's Day! For starters- this is for the woman who caused a stink....if you make a reservation for 1:45...and arrive at 1:30, everyone who made a reservation for 1:45 gets seated together. It doesn't matter who 'got there first'. That's what a 'seating time' is. With that said, The Grand Tea Room is a fun experience and the staff has it down to a science. Behind the gift shop, you're transported into an adorable roomy tea room. On the day we went, there was a harpist. Not sure if live music is the norm, or just a Mother's Day thing. I think High Tea stands out as dress up fancy places to enjoy for special occasions. This is Doc's birthday weekend and she planned a fun varied adventure and we were her guests. You enter through a gift shop then are escorted to your table. Within minutes of their 11 a.m. opening, the patrons entered till all tables were occupied, even tables dining outside. It was a complete lunch surprise beginning with a fresh fruit cup clouded in a bed of whipped cream. Next came with soup with baguette or salad with choice of dressing. To be sure, check both sides of the tea menu- what a collection. My favorite was the Buccaneer. Everywhere you look there are framed photos, mini plates hanging on the walls and mismatched chairs pushed into Lacey tablecloths. The two teapots on each tables are also different. I am a big fan of afternoon tea, and Steven found this one and offered to take me and I was excited to try it out. This is my 10th teahouse I have visited, and within the scale of those it was probably in the middle or a little above in my list. The tea room is quite small so I was happy I was able to secure reservations at opening just a week and a half in advance. I am not sure how many of us were there but I remember seeing three or four tables of 2-3 people, a table of six, and two larger groups, one of those being a bridal shower. Each afternoon tea comes with multiple options depending on your choice of package. We chose the highest one which was The Grand Tea - Soup and savory, assorted tea sandwiches and savory, fresh fruit, scone with cream, lemon curd, and preserves, petite desserts and a freshly steeped tea of your choice. Considering this was a good price point compared to other businesses I have visited, we were all in. We were quite a bit confused as to why we were told we could only order one tea because they were short staffed. I had never heard that one, and we were even more confused when the other tables of two people immediately got two pots of tea. That was not going well with Steven. Also the table of six only received two pots of tea. Thankfully later, we were offered another pot of tea of our choosing, but I was still confused about this situation. Upon arrival we were all immediately served fruit and cream. It was a nice starter point. We were offered a choice of soup or salad and we both ordered the tomato basil soup with garlic bread. We were then asked our choice of savory - quiche or shepherds pie. We ordered one of each. I can say I have never had an option like this before. This was also followed by three sandwiches (egg salad, chicken salad with cranberry and a cucumber with some type of cream cheese), a choice of scone (we both went with white chocolate strawberry) and three petite desserts. Service was A-OK. It took a while to get help and close to an hour before receiving our towers, although the fruit and soup did come out before. I normally prefer the usual four to five sandwich option, but the savory item along with the soup and fruit made up for it. Usually places provide two scones but I am not a big scone fan so I was happy with the larger scone and all these other options, and the desserts were a great portion. I was left beyond stuffed and I do appreciate the price point again, especially with the soup being part of the price. Sometimes that is yet another upcharge. My favorite part was the tea, which is the main point. There are over 40 options according to the site, but I found that the teas had strong and great flavor. Some of them are weak and watery. We recently booked a large party on a Sat afternoon of just over 30 guests. I placed the reservation months in advance and worked with the owner and her daughter on the arrangements. Amazing took my daughter for her birthday and she loved it. From the sandwich selection to the teas she enjoyed every aspect of it.

We were so excited to attend a tea party through a school field trip, here - as we love a good tea party and dressing up. But this place was exceptional. Amazing tasting teas, delicious sandwiches and SCONES! The most impressive part were the owners, servers - Kindness and professionalism. We really appreciate when we go somewhere in this world and are met with the kind of kindness we try to display. Well we found it here. It was an absolute joy. This is a so-so tea house. On the positive side, you can order just a scone and tea or have a full afternoon tea. On the other hand, I have been to many teas and have never been told that each patron could not have his or her own pot of tea. Four of us were at the last tea at this place and were told that we were allowed only two pots on the table. As a result, one of our party had to drink a tea that she didn't especially care for. When I expressed surprise at this, the owner said, "If the server isn't busy, she might be able to bring you another pot." [[HIGHLIGHT]]Most recently, I attended an outdoor tea at the Queen Califia exhibit at Kit Carson Park out on by the Grand Tea Room. It might have been a good idea conceptually, but it was rather poor in execution.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Most people had to stand, holding a plate and a cup, and there were people using trash cans as their table. That was poorly thought out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The tea itself was fine in that it was flavorful and hot. However, the bread for the sandwiches was dry, and we received very few of them. Overall, it was a poor experience. This is a general comment related to tea houses in the US: In Europe, you receive and unlimited number of sandwiches and sweets. They will happily replenish your tray. You truly get what you pay for. This is not so in the US. I wonder why. read more

All of the food was delicious, and even the picky eaters in my group found something that they enjoyed. We were here for an earlier weekend time, and there was still plenty of nearby parking. We had a pleasant Saturday afternoon tea here. My friend made a reservation a few days in advance, and the place was pretty packed when we arrived (the gift shop area was actually pretty crowded with people waiting to check in). The decor and tea sets were really nice and the restaurant felt very cozy. The teas we had were very good (you can order as many flavors as you want), my friend had the Jasmine and Darjeeling tea, and I tried the White Swiss Truffle (decaf) tea which had a good chocolate flavor. They had an extensive tea menu with lots of selections (including decaf teas which was nice). The food was also good for the most part; we really liked the tomato soup, it was very creamy and flavorful. The sandwiches were also good, but some of the bread seemed a bit stale/dry. The cucumber one was actually my favorite, and the egg salad one was okay. The chicken pot pie was good (though it was a smaller portion than I thought). I enjoyed the cherry walnut scone, and desserts were also very flavorful (my friend had the vegan versions so hers were a bit different). I felt the service could have been friendlier, some of the servers we had seemed a bit rushed/impatient. I would recommend trying this tea place for a new experience! read more

First timer to try English Tea time, overall it was quite enjoyable drinking tea, eating tiny sandwiches and desserts. They have a long list of tea selections and we tried the Earl and Creme Brulee tea which were both very flavorful. The package we had included the soup. We choose the corn soup which was amazing. Equally amazing is the shepherd pie. The tiny sandwiches were basic - there was the chicken, egg and cucumber. What i didn't like were the scones. They were very dry. I wish there were more savory items. It seems that we had a lot of sweet items from the fruit, scone and dessert. Hats were available free to borrow to immerse you to the British experience. Now when splitting the bill in half, be sure to check the tip as the tip amount is based on the total bill and not the half. Example the total bill was $100 and you're splitting it $50 to 2 people. This was such an adorable experience. We went here with a group of friends and my daughter that is 9. I didn't really know what to expect going in. All of the teas we had were so different and delicious! We ordered the garden tea and the food offerings were perfect. We left there feeling satisfied and not overly full. In fact, everyone couldn't even finish all of the desserts. I definitely recommend this for a fun and different experience. Either with friends or a mommy daughter date. Was a fun experience. Totally would want 4 people or so. The tea was very good. So much variety. The sandwiches were ok. Loved the cucumber one. Very good. The egg salad was alright and I didn't eat the chicken one but swapped it out with my friend since I don't like chicken. The desserts were good.the scone was a bit on the dryer side but I liked the blueberry one. The sauces for the scone were really amazing. That lemon curd and jelly was the highlight of the meal. It is a beautiful place to have tea. Went to celebrate a birthday lunch and the table setting was beautiful. We decided on the Grand tea option. We started with soup and was given the option between butternut and tomato basil soup. We picked the Butternut squash soup which was delicious. After the soup, a three tiered tray of sandwiches, scones, and petite desserts were next. Everything was delicious though I would have preferred the croissant to be more on the fluffy and warm side. For tea, we choose the Sweet Watermelon and Paris. We also got to try the Fruits d' Alsace and Buccaneer. All the teas were great. Overall, we had a lovely time.
