I had to take an emergency trip to Richmond because my 103 year old grandmother's nursing home had not delivered her meals in five days. I walked in to place a take out order for her and was told it would be 30 minutes. I explained, told them I couldn't wait, and went to leave, and this lovely man -- the chef's son -- stopped me and told me that he would rush it. Ten minutes later, he delivered the hot meal to me. The food was great, but I couldn't appreciate the service more. These are really good people. Thank you, thank you for making a really frustrating day better. read more

Visiting Richmond from NC with my parents and stopped by this family owned restaurant for dinner. Every staff member we met was incredibly friendly and really great service! The menu is expansive and I had a hard time deciding what to get. Our food came out very warm and in a timely manner. Everything came out as ordered. Serving size was huge! I loved my chicken parm. Salad was average. The only recommendation I would have is to work on its plating, it looked like a giant pile of sauce and cheese instead of an actual entree. I had an excellent covid-era meal at The Grapevine a couple weeks ago on their covered parking lot patio. I've had meals from their food truck at my former job a couple times in the past too, but this was my first time ever having a sit-down meal from the actual restaurant itself. The weather was ideal for outdoor dining, and the restaurant staff was adhering to safety protocols -- mask wearing, one-time use menus, tables spread out, and sanitation taking place. Our server (I believe her name was Tara) was super friendly as well given the conditions. I had a ceasar salad to start (just okay - could've used a larger plate) and had the combo platter app as my main dish. It's vegetarian and massive. It was plenty for three meals in actuality -- and was so so good. For dessert, I ordered the limoncello cake. Oh, my goodness. It was so light and fluffy. Perfectly portioned. Not at all bitter. 100% would get again. I enjoyed my time here, and would order take out or consider another sit-down meal again. This is a great classic Italian and Mediterranean restaurant. The wide variety of Italian Classics, and some fantastic Greek and other Mediterranean selections. Portions are massive, so expect to take home or split a plate. Make sure to save room for tiramisu or cannoli. The setting is kind of dark and intimate, but appropriate for a couples and families. A lot of historic newspaper clippings and actually funny articles about controversial statue choices are to be seen on the walls. Overall, what are the things that the family talked about the most afterwards were the PG-13 light switches in the bathroom. These had Michelangelos David on the face plate and humorously arranged around the actual switch. Apparently these were the same in both bathrooms. Service was fantastic and no complaints. Parking was reasonable for the location. Don't let the location almost looks kind a like a strip mall fool you. This is a great restaurant. read more

I've only had the Greek food because it's unbelievably delicious, and I haven't been able to get myself to shift to their Italian food which I'm sure is also spectacular! The service is out of this world as well, and so great that the last time, after we'd finished dinner, we asked to see the owner to praise our server. I'm very glad I got the chance to try this place again because I had a much more pleasant experience the second time around. My last visit I came for lunch and was disappointed with atmosphere, service, and food. I came for dinner this time and had a much better experience in all aspects. We arrived for dinner around 4:45pm on a Saturday. It was surprisingly not crowded, so we were seated quickly. Our waiter, whose name is escaping me, came to our table shortly after we were seated and took our drink orders. He also let us know he was fairly new and still getting the hang of things, but throughout our meal we couldn't tell one bit. Already, service was far better than my first experience. Throughout our time there, he refilled our drinks without us having to ask and we never had to wait. He also checked on us to make sure everything was okay, and then boxed our leftovers for us as well. Now the food. Each table gets a set of house made rolls, which are apparently famous. I have a gluten intolerance that reacts unkindly, especially with bread, so, unfortunately, I couldn't taste them but my partner said they were delicious. We ordered the boom boom shrimp appetizer ($11.99) which was pleasant but could have been better. It was tasty but nothing to write home about - I've had better and I've had worse. Our meals also came with a garden salad which was your run of the mill garden salad with a slice of cucumber, some red onion, and a cherry tomato. I ordered ranch dressing which was pretty good, and if you're an enjoyer of ranch dressing you know it can be hit or miss. I ordered the chicken shish kabob ($18.99) and my partner ordered the stuffed shells ($17.99). We received our food fairly quickly, which impressed me, and it was still piping hot from the kitchen. The chicken shish kabob comes with two skewers comprised of peppers, onions, and large chunks of grilled chicken over a rice pilaf with a side of tzatziki sauce. I was weary about the rice pilaf because a lot of the time restaurants make their rice so dry it's hard to eat, but this one was delicious. It was moist and flavorful and paired very well with the chicken. The tzatziki sauce was also very good, although a little more watery than I'm used to tzatziki sauce being. My partners stuffed shells came with three very large shells stuffed with cheese and topped with cheese and sauce. The sauce was a bit watery for my taste but he enjoyed it, and said the shells were flavorful and filling. Then for dessert, we took home an order of baklava ($6.99). The baklava was good, but a bit too sweet for my taste. It has honey, walnuts, and pistachios layered in the phyllo dough and for the price, you get a pretty decent sized portion. Overall, I was very pleased with my second experience and will be going back to order the shish kabobs for sure. read more

Last night we had a big family event here. They have private rooms that you can reserve for your parties, so we were able to close the door and not disrupt anyone's meal, being such a large group. We were there at 5:30 and the restaurant was very busy, but the staff were on top of all of it. We had a predetermined menu and we chose our entrees. Due to that, I don't know what their price points are but it was a very nice dinner. We got an appetizer platter to share at each table that had a bunch of different foods on it, including dolmades and hummus with pita. The dolmades were some of the best I've had. They weren't overly sour like some I've had. For the entree, I got the fettuccine Alfredo. Everything was seasoned beautifully and there was just the right amount of sauce. I feel like I've gone places that have larger plates, but it was really good. The necklace baklava had an amazing flavor! It was such a huge piece too. I got the heart of the Mediterranean cocktail to drink and it was very delicious. Not too sweet, not too sour. I would absolutely come back again when I'm on this side of town. The lights are dimmed so it has a nice calming energy and the staff are very friendly. One of the owners was at our table checking on us and refilling our waters. Stopped by for lunch. The interior is beautiful. The waitress we had was very sweet and patient, she took the time to explain dishes we were not familiar with. There's a lot of food variety, so don't feel you won't find something if you are not into Greek food. Their portions are also huge, the best option to share. Not only was the food amazing, but the staff was so easy to work with before and the event staff was top notch! Rita went out of her way to make sure everything was perfect and that the bride and groom got exactly what they wanted to eat. I am a true Italian pasta lover, and had amazing pasta locally and in major cities, but this was the first and the only time leaving an Italian place unsatisfied. This is the only time I couldn't finish my entree too, not because of the big portions from typical Greek restaurants, it's just that the pasta was not it at The Grapevine. You can see the description below. - Sesame Bread Rolls [GET]: These are complimentary bread rolls they serve while we wait for our food. They are delicious, hella soft, pillowy, and airy. It is the BEST thing of the night; so tasty and wonderful, and eating only one of them was just not the right move, so make sure to ask for second rounds of these rolls. CARBS are your friends, and they are insanely good. I know my breads. Honestly, they are one of the reasons why gave it a three star ratings. - Fried Calamari [GET]: Got an appetizer to share. The fried calamari was average, fried pretty crispy and had a crunchy on the outer layer, but nothing too special about them. The bread crumb to calamari ratio was good, and seafood was tender and juicy. I like the Marinara sauce that comes with it, definitely added a good acidic kick to the calamari. - Special of the Night [SKIP]: It was penne pasta cooked with grilled chicken and sautéed spinach topped with mozzarella cheese. The grilled chicken was dry and hard, not juicy at all, was way too overcooked. The pasta was not al dente, instead it was soft and soggy; there's no chew to it. This dish was very bland, definitely didn't seasoned it enough, and low key I had to add the Mariana sauce from the calamari to juicy it up a bit, but didn't help much. The major downside was it was drenched in oil, and almost all of my pasta was in like a pool of oil. This entire dish tasted very greasy, unhealthy, and not tasty. Everything was just wrong about it. Ambiance: 4.25/5 - Known for their cute interior design and romantic vibes. There is a Greek/Italian theme going on with bright string lights hanging on the wall because of the holidays. Inside was spacious with plenty of seating areas and a cocktail bar too. I love that they have a very cute outdoor patio, so definitely sit outside when the weather permits. Perfect for a date night on special occasions. Price: 3.75/5 - I got an appetizer, fried calamari to share with my siblings for $14 and a specials of the night, which is a pasta entree for around $18. The total came up be around $40. The pasta did not meat my expectations, so I didn't thought it wasn't worth, but portions were great. I didn't end up taking the rest back home, because it wasn't good. Service: 3.75/5 - We went a couple days before Christmas and packed with people. I had a reservation at 7:30PM, but we didn't get our food until almost an hour later. All the staffs were nice, and greeted us when we walked in and make sure we were happy with where we sit. Our server was attentive and friendly, and she tried to keep us updated with the status of our food, but it was still too long of a wait. Make sure to make a reservation before you go. Overall, an okay experience. I just hope they take less people, so the quality meets the quality even during busy times. BLUF: Classic Greek style restaurant that serves huge portion. Great ambiance, reasonable prices, and amazing service from all the staffs, but we all agree as a group that the pasta dishes were way below average. I'd recommend Mama Cucina if you are craving for some delicious pasta in RVA. When we started dating, the Grapevine became a go to date night spot because the food is out of this world and the service is always exceptional. When we got married, we decided to have our wedding celebration at the Grapevine. Everyone that attended was so thoroughly impressed, and we were absolutely thrilled with the value. It was a cost effective option that didn't sacrifice quality, in fact, just the opposite. I was blown away at all they did to make the night special for us and how beautiful the room looked, without us having to set anything up or bring anything ourselves. They offered me a free "mocktail" (it was more like a fruity water but yummy) and they had live music which was wonderful but a bit too loud for me. I love the decor and especially the vibe of the bar area! Will have to dine in sometime soon. Our favorites are the souvlaki mi, the chicken kebab, and the gyro. I also recommend dessert over appetizers if you can only budget for one! I like the baklava better than the baklava cheesecake but those are the only two I've tried. read more

Four of us had reservations for here on a Friday evening at 6 pm. We were seated immediately when we got there. We were seated in the bar area, which I will cover a little later. Our waitress was Mimi and she was fantastic. Very helpful and attentive. We ordered greek salads and then there was a mix of entrees. I had the chicken parmigiana, two of us ordered baked spaghetti and then there was an entree with penne with vodka sauce. All of them were excellent! The serving sizes were very large. I think we took more home than we could eat! They also had about 6 or so beers on draft- a few large chains and at least one local beer by Legends. I highly recommend reservations on a weekend evening. The line was out the door when we left. My only con of the whole experience and it was not enough to drop a star was being seated in the bar area. There was a couple at the bar that were very loud and we got to hear all of the issues they were arguing over. Fortunately, they left fairly soon after we got there! This place was amazing! We were seated on the outdoor (enclosed) patio, yes it's heated! It was an Extremely busy night but we were greeted with a smile at the door and seated right away. As we were seated the hostas that was seating us explained it was a very busy night and that more than one person will be helping the waitress(I truly appreciate the honesty) To start we ordered the flaming cheese which was absolutely delicious second we ordered our meals and upgraded our salads to the Greek salad which was fabulous and very fresh. The meals that we ordered were chicken Parmesan, Souvlaki Mi Mi and Khristo's Sampler ! To finish our meal we ordered the baklava cheesecake and the cannoli.. wow what's not to love at this place!
