4 & 1/2...Taylor Ham (or Pork Roll depending on which part of the Garden State a person hails from) must be an acquired taste. While I initially was repelled, I have subsequently converted to a full fledged fan over the course of the past few years of working quite a bit in NJ, and this wonderful establishment in the great urban town of Kearny has earned the crown for the best I've ever had of it. The gloriously gluttonous gut-busting "Johnny's Hangover Special" also qualifies for a spot high on my list of all time best breakfast sandwiches of any type, well worth a trip across the State line. The fat stack sandwich features relatively thick slices of the salty pork product layered between a fusion of delectable chunk of crispy savory fried potatoes melded with soft scrambled eggs and cheese, all seasoned and griddled to perfection stuffed inside a heavenly squishy and delicious Portuguese style roll. True to the name it would surely provide the salve you need to help you recover from the wildest of nights, as well as leave you thoroughly stuffed for most if not the rest of the day. Pro tip; accompany the life-changing sandwich with one of the wonderful, unique and delicious specialty coffee drinks that will delight your social media feeds followers as much as your tastebuds with their eye popping presentations. Decor and atmosphere are like a set designers dream of a classic NJ diner, and pretty much guaranteed to be packed especially on a weekend. Parking in Kearny is as challenging as literally anywhere within the five boroughs so be prepared to hunt down a spot, but trust me that it's worth the effort. I know a new, social media skilled family took the reigns of this spot a year ago from the longtime previous owners and while I can't compare the two I can definitively say that the new owners are at the very least honoring he legacy in best possible way imaginable if not improving on it. ***CASH ONLY ESTABLISHMENT*** ATM on site. TLDR: HIGHLY RECOMMEND. If you enjoy breakfast sandwiches, the Taylor Ham, egg and cheese is a MUST. The Greeks is a staple of Kearny and a contender,if not already, for the best Taylor Ham, Egg and Cheese in NJ. With that being said, I had to stop by and try it out after the Grand re-opening on 11/25/24. There was plenty of street parking (not always the case) so it was a quick trip. This is a no frills, hole in the wall, family owned establishment. It is very small and usually crowded with locals. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted and provided with a menu. I order the THEC to go and let's just say it did not disappoint. The sandwich was very generously put together, eggs was perfectly cooked, Taylor ham wasn't too salty, cheese was perfectly melted and the bread was fluffy. Their menu is simple but just reading it shows that they have a lot of fundamental diner items. They also have specials every day which are not on the menu and I will definitely be back to try more items.

Finally had the chance to stumble on in to The Greeks in Kearny, NJ today for what some people consider the best Jersey Meat/Egg/Cheese in the state!! I don't care to argue over the name of it. Call it pork roll, call it Taylor ham, call it your aunt sally...I say Jersey Meat to avoid the argument. This may or may not be the best one I've had, but it's absolutely in the conversation. 7 slices of controversy with two eggs and plenty of cheese on a delicious NJ fresh Kaiser roll. This sandwich is exactly $10 and this establishment is cash only. I am perfectly okay paying $10 for this with that much protein going on. The Greeks - Didn't Suck!

Words cannot describe how good their pistachio / Dubai chocolate infused breakfast items are. Completely revolutionizing sweet breakfast eats. Tiramisu iced latte gets me ready to go to war. Love the staff and atmosphere everything about this place is amazing and makes my big back heart sing

Being a transplanted Northerner I don't often get a chance to try local NJ legends, but on this Xmas trip to NY/NJ I finally got to the Greeks, and boy I am glad I did.On the way up I stopped in and had the NJ special, taylor ham, egg and cheese between 2 pieces of french toast, one word to describe it : awesome !!!! One week later on the way home I stopped again and this time I settled ‍for the basic taylor ham , egg and cheese on a roll, once again: awesome. If you are a local you don't need my opinion to try this place, but if you are a foodie and looking for a piece of real small town America, take The NJ turnpike to exit 15W and treat yourself !!!!!

In the words of my boyfriend... "the best Taylor ham egg and cheese ever". Since I'm not a fan of Taylor ham, I know I know, I leave the reviewing to my boyfriend on that one. Trust me, he's a Taylor ham fan. He really said it was perfect, just the right ratio of ingredients and greasy Jersey meat to make a breakfast sandwich perfect. I went with the western omelette and it was truly enough for 4 meals. So much food. The home fries were great, overcooked but in the best way possible. Delicious eggs, loaded with toppings. We also got a side of elm street fries, again enough for 4 people. Tasty seasoned fries, chili, a ton of cheese, all topped with raw onion. They give you the option of cooked onion as well, I think both would work to be honest. Be aware, this place gets crazy busy. I called on a Saturday morning for pickup and the wait was an hour. It's worth it, just be prepared. Staff is hard working and friendly.

What can I say? This place is a local legend filled with local legends. You will never find a place with more Taylor Ham on the grill. Taylor ham is king. Though there is other fare on the menu, don't pass up on the Taylor ham. This place is the undisputed Cheers of Kearny NJ where everybody knows your name.

This is my second time here and it just baffles me how these guys are the only ones that can get this down to a perfect science. Everyone else just puts a heap of Taylor ham one the top and that's that. Not these guys. They layer it perfectly. That's the way to do it!!! It's beautiful. It's taste perfection. It's pride in making each sandwich. First time I went, I got the Taylor ham, egg, cheese on French toast and it was the best thing I ever had. This time I went with the Hangover, which was Taylor ham, egg, cheese and their famous potatoes. This is not for the faint of heart. Weighed about as much as my car's spare tire and had the flavor to back it up. My wife went with the normal Taylor ham, egg and cheese on a hard roll. Best TEC this side of the Mason Dixon Line. I dare you. I challenge you to find a better Taylor ham, egg and cheese. Can't be done. Just remember that it's cash only, so hit the ATM before going.

Have been meaning to come here since I saw it in TV and wish I had come in sooner. Even though they never met me before I felt like family. I sat at the counter and talked to the owner and watched him work. It got busy but he kept calm and I could feel the love in cooking. I had a cheesesteak and fries and both were great. If you are looking for a friendly place to get a quick but tasty lunch then head on over and sit at the counter. read more

Old School diner great food great hosts! We were on way to Red Bull's soccer game and found this place on yelp. The reviews don't lie!! This place rocks, we had salads, burgers, sandwiches etc, all of it was fresh and tasty. Burgers rocked, salads were crisp, sandwiches were piled high with some tasty meat. The owner rocks! Recognized it was our first time there, I was watching him cook the hash browns and told him they looked great but we were in lunch mode. What's he do? Sends over a plateful for us to taste and they tasted better than they looked. Class act, great food, a MUST for us when we are down that way. read more

Stumbled upon this place with my best friend. Long story short, stove is bad and is in the process of getting replaced so my friend and I came here for some breakfast. I was amazed to find this on Yelp only a BLOCK away from me! So we came here and ordered our breakfast to go. Everyone here was really nice and the food was great!! Even the coffee was awesome!! My husband just brought me home a taylor ham & cheese sandwich and omg!! Hands Down the BEST in Jersey. I've also had the Greek Omelet from here and it was delicious (and hugh). The people there are wonderful and so friendly. We travel from Maplewood to go here and it's definitely worth it. Love you guys, you're awesome! read more

I went out of my way to check out this nondescript "hole in the wall" on Saturday, around Noon. And I'm glad I did. My son had a grilled cheese sandwich, which is pretty hard to mess up. I ordered the Elm Street Burger w/cheddar & chili, medium rare. It came out exactly as ordered, the chili tasted homemade, along with a side of their renowned home fries, ordered well done, of course. No complaints here. The burger was huge & juicy, served on a toasted bun, but for $7.95 it came with a lonely pickle spear -- no slaw, or garnish. I gabbed with the owner for a few minutes. He was friendly & outgoing. I think he appreciated seeing a "new customer"... on a quiet Saturday afternoon. While we were there, a couple of local "characters" rolled in -- one an obvious regular (old timer), and the other a middle aged lady who sounded like a long haul driver -- to eat and schmooze with the boss. I'm sure these folks were status quo for Downtown Kearny, but I got a kick out of them, anyway. The decor was undistinguished, and the place lacked anything resembling "atmosphere." But it's not that easy to find a decent "greasy spoon" anymore. I would go back to this place in a heartbeat; but I wouldn't waste too much gas getting there. read more

For breakfast platters this is THE PLACE to go! You walk in and you are greeted right away. I hate that they close so early. Being a teacher, I don't get back into kearny until at least 3:30 and I don't want to be that person who walks in at closing time and orders food. Whenever I get a chance on the weekends, I like to go here for breakfast. Their omelets are huge and they fill the other half of the plate with the best home fries you will every taste. Everything is always fresh. Their lunch items are on point too. If you are in the area you HAVE to try the Greeks!!! read more

One of the best kept secrets. I've driven past this place hundreds of times over the years but never stopped in. Truly my mistake. I can't see how anyone could give the Greeks less than 4 Stars. The food is excellent; good quality; home cooking at it's best. It's your local "divey, hole in the wall, hometown place to go" (and Divey in my opinion is a term of endearment). Everyone is friendly; it's my new go to place in the mornings. So if you're looking for a very good meal; reasonably priced and is consistent in quality, taste, etc....this is place. This is my GO TO breakfast place! The family atmosphere is what keeps drawing me and my friends in! John (the owner) and his wife have known all of us since we were kids and we always enjoy his company and how he makes sure he says hello to us upon arrival. The food ALWAYS hits the spot! Kearny's best kept secret! It was our first time there and we were pleasantly surprised! Everything from the setting, to the food, to the owner - everything is enjoyable! John, the owner, made us feel like family as soon as we walked in. We felt like regulars already! Let me just say that their French Toast is the best French Toast I have ever had! They also gave us complimentary taste of John's famous crab meat soup. It was so delicious, we ended up buying their extra large bowl to take home! They also had us try their rice pudding. To be honest, I felt like I was at my grandparent's house - shoving food down my throat but we loved it! We definitely plan on going back very very soon! read more

I enjoyed the atmosphere of this place very much. It has a typical diner look and is not overdone by today's bling or other nonsense. However, I was disappointed when the service did not meet my expectations. The waitress who was serving us was rude and disrespectful and looked simply annoyed by our existence. The food was mediocre but relatively inexpensive. All in all, I really wish I could have enjoyed it more. read more

What can I say, I walked out of there "FAT N HAPPY!" They recently did some renovations and it looks great! Had an egg omelette with bacon, ham, and cheese and it was huge! (Ate the whole damn thing). The home fries are outstanding! Im picky as hell and asked if they came with onions, server said they are minced already along with green peppers but you wont even notice them. She was right, all I noticed was the flavor...delicious! Prices are low too...had to reread the menu twice to make sure I wasn't hallucinating! If you're ever in the area, stop in and eat...then come back here to thank me! read more

This place should be 10 Stars. Prices are perfect. When you leave if you don't loosen your belt or don't leave feeling full something is wrong. "Yanni " Greek for John is one of the most Socialble Host of an Establishments in the Entire Area. He makes you feel at home and feeds you like you are family and gives you portions like you are family. There is no Skimpy plates here. You always get more than you pay for. A suggestion when you leave take a cup of soup home with you and always never leave without a cup of The Greeks Famous Homemade Rice Pudding. It is soooooooooo Creamy and yummy you might want 2. It's the best around. The Coffee is awesome from the Bottomless cup that is always filled. The serviceis top notch and the Bacon is sweet. One of the Landmark meals here is The Greeks Famous Sandwich The " Triple Bypass" Sandwich. One sandwich which will keep you going all day long. And quite delicious. As a Greek myself, This place is as close to Greece as you can go bring your own Ouzo. If you like Feta Cheese there is Feta Cheese Omelettes. So much on the menu it takes time to make a choice. Found this place on Yelp, came here twice in one week, tomato soup is excellent, both times had a chicken gyro, super delicious. I enjoyed my breakfast fast here this morning. You can tell it's a family business. Everyone is friendly and seems to know each other. I ordered two eggs sunny side up, home fries, bacon and toast with a cup of coffee. I was at the counter and had the pleasure of seeing my meal prepared before me, it was delicious. I agree with all the positive reviews posted here. Thanks to yelp for bring me in here. Within walking distance to my apt, it is always packed on weekends. So make sure that you are okay with a little wait and crowd. Nice omelette with plenty of choices, fluffy french toast, home made chicken rice soup are served fresh and hot. You always get their pan fried potato fries with meals. Foodis in good portion. Very affordable and yet delicious meal. But the staff may be slightly slow because they are too busy. And you smell greasy after eating there . For that, I take one star down. read more

Nightmare on Elm Street Heard about this place from the wife who was ranting and raving about reviews of the best Taylor ham, egg and cheese in NJ. Was there for 5 min and immediately had to leave. NONE of the employees were wearing masks. Not the chef, the waiters/waitresses or the hostess. If there were 10 people in there, 9 weren't wearing masks. Was told it would take an hour to make two breakfast sandwiches. The icing on the cake was when a random guy, also not wearing a mask, just goes behind the counter to refill his drink. There was no ice so he just takes the ice bucket and goes over to where the shops ice was being held and refills on his own. Disgusting in my opinion. I will never return here! read more

The new ownership made the mistake of firing the entire staff without first understanding how the old management successfully ran the business day to day.
