I had the misfortune of coming across this place this past Sunday while on the island. Im a huge football fan and was told that this was the spot to be for game day! I sat at the bar and ordered a drink and a water. The bartender and staff were friendly and I was really liking the vibe. Until the manager named Sarah walked up and started asking me all kinds of personal questions and was making me feel uncomfortable. At about 3 minutes before halftime I ordered another drink...I still had a little less than 1/2 of the first one,but figured I'd stay and watch the rest of the game there. There was no one but me at the bar and only a handful of people in the restaurant and my drink never came. I reminded the bartender that I had RE ordered another drink and she informed me that SARAH had told her not to serve me anything else. Then on que with about 48 seconds left before halftime and my team driving,she grabs the controller and changes the game!! Remember...Im the ONLY person watching the TV!! I politely told her that I was watching that game she turned and she said well I'll turn it back in a little bit!! I put my money on the counter and told her I've never been disrespected like that in any establishment ever!!! I went back to the place I had been at "The Mucky Duck " and the informed me that Sarah is a grade A mean person,with a Capital "B" and only wants locals in her establishment!!!! From the moment I waited at the hostess stand for a hostess (315 in the afternoon - 4 outside tables so not busy) to walking inside to the hostess stand - was told to wait at the outside hostess stand ..... I knew things might not be good. The outdoor hostess walked by on her phone texting & I had to ask if I could have an outside table. She handed me a menu & told me to pick any seat. So I took a chair at the high top deck seating area (it was only me & I didn't want to waste a 4 top for myself). Sat for 10 minutes with no server - I finally was able to ask a nearby server if there was someone available to take my order. He told me my seat was self serve only (wouldn't they have been nice for the outdoor hostess to tell me when she handed me my menu while she finished her texting?). So I gathered my purse & menu & took a seat .... Again 5 more minutes & no service. I just left. The indoor restaurant had LITERALLY 2 people inside & the staff couldn't have been less helpful or welcoming. I do not recommend. read more

My husband and I were in search for a place to get a nightcap at 8pm on Sunday while driving back to our resort at South Seas and saw a lot of cars in the parking lot, so pulled in. Green Flash had been recommended to us by a bartender at another establishment and we had read about it. We were surprised to see how busy they were and were immediately happy. They had fun music playing and all of the staff was wonderful. I had a delicious chocolate martini followed by a glass of wine. My husband had his staple Kettle Soda, splash of cran. The views were beautiful of the marina and we definitely will go back to buy their puzzle, grab another cocktail and enjoy some lunch on our next visit in. I want to mention our lovely bartender who we got to know, Lauren. It's so nice to connect with the staff. It's our favorite thing to do, as we travel often. She was so down to earth and when she slowed down a bit, stood and talked to us for a while. Obviously she left an impression. Go see Lauren! She's a delight! I must mention, as we live in Los Angeles, have a place in Philadelphia and used to live in Manhattan, the drinks are so reasonably priced! New Year's Day dinner with the family was great. We had a reservation for seven and the host greeted us by saying they saved a table with a great view. The view over the water was a great touch for our dinner. Service was friendly and informative but did get slow towards the end. Our server was very busy so I won't hold that against him. The Oyster Rockefeller was very good as an appetizer. The fresh bread held us over until our meals arrived. The blackened mahi mahi was very tasty. I loved the mango tropical salsa that I could pour over the fish. The rice was my choice of side and I really enjoyed it. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meals without any complaints. Two of them ordered the pasta special which was an angel hair pasta, shrimp/lobster, with a scampi sauce. For dessert we tried the Tiramisù, raspberry creme brûlée, and chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. Everyone loved their desserts respectively but the raspberry creme brûlée was just average and we didn't taste any raspberry. Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner and would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone else. It is listed as casual but it's slightly above casual and could be considered higher end. The service is very professional and the tables are candlelit with tablecloths. From the outside, this place looks like an average bar, but it is much more! Just sharing.. it was our Anniversary and the mgmt/hostess was made aware. We waited on a table at the bar which was ok. However, our waitresses the table was not very well trained. We notified her it was our 28th anniversary as we sat down. We ordered appetizers and entrees. Our waitress was not attentive to our bread, drinks and didn't follow up after food was delivered. She showed up way after we finished our meal. No offer oof desert or even as anniversary idea. I'm a full time local and will NEVER go back for any celebrations! Came here with my mom midafternoon for a late lunch.. sat inside... Military, our server, was excellent and very attentive, but we had a hard time hearing her (and each other) because the acoustics were so very loud... and the restaurant was only about 1/3 full!!! Food, drinks, view... all excellent! But the noise level made it very uncomfortable... Came here for Valentine's Day and service was EXTREMELY slow, we waited about 20 minutes just to get water once everyone was seated. Our waiter was literally running around so i'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and am assuming service is better on other days. But the FOOD???? Amazing. The restrooms were filthy. Thick layers of dust and dirt cover most everything.The toilet in the "handicapped" stall had a very cracked tank lid into 4 or 5 pieces barely balanced on the tank. I don't know how they kept from falling off. They probably do. The lid was also covered in black mold on the crack edges. The toilets were all stained and old. I have a personal aversion to photographing toilets, but trust me- this was described accurately. The TP holders were very filthy and extra TP rolls sat on top of the filth. The areas of the restaurant we were in were very dusty/dirty. This IS a disgusting and perverted sense of humor- having a life size mannequin in the corner of the WOMENS restroom to look like a man urinating is gross. Ladies and small children see that when they use this RR. THE mannequins clothes have a thick layer of dust on them. Reviews since 2013 mention this thing so he has been there awhile. It gets worse. The mens RR has a 1 way mirror above the urinals and the men look in to the bar as they are at the urinal. As a woman, I find that knowledge deeply disturbing. It is something that, surely would be a crime if it took place, say, outside. This is not amusing. Parents have to take their children in there! Your customers deserve better, and we PAY for better than this. Yes, the food was perfect. But seeing those restrooms really nearly ruined the experience. I will NEVER GO BACK unless they clean the place and remodel those restrooms. Get rid of the raunchy, low class, perverted attempts at humor. Its shameful. I encourage EVERYONE to to do what they can to get this owner to CLEAN the restrooms and get rid of the perversions. We spend a lot of money here- we deserve better. Asking for the restrooms to just be clean and free of perverted imagery is NOT asking for a lot. The atmosphere here is exactly what you picture when you think of a restaurant by the ocean in the movies. The patio is stunning with fans and mist constantly blowing out air, which is super refreshing on a hot Captiva Island day. We ate inside, and the restaurant is a beautiful, wide open space with oceanic art sprinkled across the area. The menu is small- but when I say that the food is the best in all of Florida, I'm not even sugarcoating it. Pictured is the coconut shrimp, which is by far my most favorite shrimp I have ever eaten, and quite possibly the best meal I've had on this vacation. We had never gone here after coming to Sanibel and Captiva for decades. I'm not sure when this place opened, but I know it's very popular. I had the crunchy grouper. Timbers is better. My wife had the scallops and asked for them to be cooked well done so as not to be mushy, and they came almost sushi like. My daughter had the coconut shrimp and was really disappointed. She is kind of a coconut shrimp aficionado, and she told me to taste it because it seemed like it might've been the kind you get out of a frozen dinner, and by God, she was right. Now the desserts!: I ordered the carrot cake. It is a spice cake with very little of anything else. Not good! Probably a pretty good spice cake, but one of the worst carrot cakes that I've ever had. My daughter ordered the Keylime pie, and it was pretty much frozen. Something like a Maria calendars type of thing served on a plate. Really disappointing. The Green Flash at Captiva was our choice for lunch today Perfect location on Roosevelt Channel, overlooking the intercoastal waterway. Our table was situated at the window overlooking a gorgeous view of Buck Key Could not ask for anymore ambiance, the seating was just perfect for me. The lunch choices were many and of good variety Hard to make a choice as many were favorites to me. The Captiva Salad was the choice for my date, the presentation alone was pleasing to the eye Mixed greens mandarin oranges asparagus artichoke hearts capers and gorgonzola cheese with smoked salmon pan seared scallops and shrimp, my oh my! She loved it and enjoyed every single mouthful, the variety was interesting to her Great for lunch, a new favorite, she is becoming quite the connoisseur. For me, I had the shrimp bisque, thick and tasty, done just right I also had a portion of peel and eat shrimp with fries and cole slaw, good to the last bite. There are a couple of surprises in store for you, should you use the lavatory Both ladies and men, try them, I won't tell you now, I don't want to ruin the story. We went there to have a nice Mother's Day/Anniversary dinner. On the way to our table, we passed several items on the floor (lemons/lettuce/discarded napkins) on the floor. As the hostess walked back to her station, she did not pick them up nor did anyone of the 5+ staff who passed those items several times. i'll start with the positives which were the kind staff / waiters and the view of the water and docks. i'm not sure why some reviews say you can see the sunset because you definitely can't. but otherwise it's a great location to eat at. now... we had a pretty disappointing experience for dinner here. first, the flies outside were swarming peoples food so we had to move inside. we ordered the atlantic salmon and it was said to have crab on top but whatever they put on top of the fish was more like a soupy mixture with some crab shaving on top. not to mention the salmon was not seasoned well. the side option of rice was also extremely bland and probably came from a frozen bag. spinach tasted like they pulled it right from the water outside. if you do decide to go, you have been warned, but coconut shrimp and drinks are good though i guess. i lost my appetite before i could try them after i returned my dish to the kitchen (which i've never done). one person in our party got the filet mignon and had a positive experience though. it's really not hard to make good seafood. i hope this place can improve on their food because i would love to come back for the great views and friendly staff. read more

Oof. Where do I even begin with this place that I'll never come back to and never recommend to anyone. My mom and I had a reservation for the Green Flash. As most people know with Captiva Island and Sanibel - it's a one lane road and if you get stuff behind someone going extremely slow, there's nothing you can do about it. That's what happened to us, so we called on the way to say we recognize that we are running late because of this and we apologize, but we are almost there. We arrived 9 minutes late. We went right up to the host outside - who seemed very unwilling to help as he wanted to go back to chatting up his friends. Additionally, I'm disabled and use a cane, so this would be the point in the story where he could have indicated a better way into the building for me. Instead, he just head nodded to a large, steep stairway to the top of the building. It was not accessible. We then get inside to meet the most unpleasant host of all time. She said you're late and we gave your table away. I just looked at her and said "we're 9 minutes late and called to tell you. it's not like we're 30 minutes late." She said that we can sit and wait like everyone else now. There were no chairs and I said I needed to sit, and she once again told me to wait. I'm disabled! What a *insert word I can't say on Yelp.* A kind person gave up their seat for me, thankfully. We waited for close to 25 minutes, until I got up to ask about our table. She said "well like I said you're going to have to wait because you gave up your table." Imagine all this with a cold, dismissive, disgusted voice too. So, we were finally seated and right away, we knew we were put in the worst table in the room. A booth against the service door. Every 3 seconds there was a large pound against the back of my booth, causing me to jolt forward. We made a joke about it when the server came and she indicated that this is in fact where the host will put people who arrived late for reservations. She must have registered the shock on our faces and maybe also just knows how horrible of a human the host is. Our server moved us to a really nice table that was open. What happens next is still astonishing to me - within 10 seconds of our butts hitting the chairs in the new table, the host rushes over to us wildly accusing us of moving ourselves, we can't do that, what are we doing, she already seated us, etc. As unprofessional as it was, we just calmly said that the server moved us. She rolled her eyes, huffed away and pulled the server aside, we where we could she the dressing down so publicly. This host is out of control, and I'm sure everyone hates working with her. The unprofessional staff behavior continued in the bathroom. While I was in a stall, I heard two servers talking about very inappropriate things and still continued to do so as others walked into the bathroom. I've just never encountered that in an establishment that's supposed to be nice. Our server was a very nice, which is why this isn't a one star review. In terms of food, I had Caesar salad, which was fine and nothing to write home about. For my entreé, I had coconut shrimp, which was quite good. In the end, the food was just *fine* and nothing memorable. It was the host and other unprofessional issues that were memorable, but not in a good way. With all of the other great dining choices on Captiva and Sanibel - this one is a big miss. read more

I asked him if kitchen could prepare fish without butter and he seemed hesistant. He told me defiantly not the spinach. He proceeded to bring me a entire plate of food with butter and said nothing. The Green Flash is right at the beginning when you drive into the island so we decided to go there on our first night. It is located at the water but it was already pretty late and very dark when we arrived. Like most restaurants on the island, it is highly seafood based. I had my all-time fave - coconut shrimp and the hubster loved his steak. Their key-lime pie had a very distinct taste - it was slightly frozen which I loved. Another funny feature are the bathrooms (don't tell me I didn't warn) you - there is a dummy leaning against the wall which makes it look like a man is standing inside there. Green Flash has turned into a restaurant for toddlers. The service has reached an all time low. Who knew you watched your spouse have soup while you wait for an appetizer because they are not served together. Too expensive for all the screaming children who should be home sleeping. read more

I'm seriously surprised this restaurant doesn't have a higher rating. Went at 6:15pm on a Tuesday in February, had a 10-15 minute wait, but there were plenty of seats to sit in while we waited. Our food was absolutely delicious. We started with the seared tuna appetizer-- I wasn't super crazy about the soy glaze (on the side), but my husband loved it. It's also served with a little bit of seaweed salad, a ton of ginger, and a ton of wasabi. We devoured everything! My husband got the surf and turf-- a petite filet with lobster, au gratin potatoes and veggies. The lobster was some of the best I've ever had. The rest of the plate was great, as well. I had the Captiva Salad, which is what salad dreams are made of: scallops, shrimp AND smoked salmon. I got the dressing on the side and also added ranch on the side-- both dressings were super delicious. I couldn't decide between the 2, and alternated every few bites! Husband had a Long Island iced tea while we waited for our table. It was strong! We've been on vacation for a week and have dined our every night, and this has been our favorite meal so far. Oh, another bonus-- with the huge windows, it would appear that you had a view from every table in the restaurant. Awesome!
