The Green Olive is located a little out of the way, but is well worth the visit. The restaurant expanded a few years ago and now has a nice sized bar area and a room upstairs for special events. I've always enjoyed the food. What I really like are the 'petite meals.' My description of petite and the restaurant's description are vastly different. We just had dinner here at the recommendation of my daughter. First our server was very nice. The bread was good. The soup that is included with the dinner was good. I had chicken parm, crispy on the outside, tender chicken inside. Highly recommended. Hubby had Mediterranean seafood pasta, big pieces of shrimp and scallops, very good flavor. My daughter had chicken Marsala which was very good. All their portions are big- everybody had left over. We had no room for dessert. Maybe next time. The only issue was the calamari- it was crispy but a bit chewy, I've had better and the marinara sauce that goes with it is ok. The place is spacious, and the restrooms are nice and clean. A little overpriced. The food(my chicken and the sauce)is pretty bland as well. That being said it's still good, very tender(I don't mind the bland taste as I'm used to eating it while on cuts) and it's a good amount of food. Dim lighting welcomes you when you walk in and a display of the desserts. Straight back is an indoor pond with huge koi (that sort of make me jealous due to mine being so small haha)and turtles. The seating is comfortable. If you're from the area, you're going to see a lot of people you know and went to school with. Depending on who you are, your mood and how you feel about those people, says whether that's a good or bad thing. The specific waitress we had was kind enough. If you like her to be up your butt every two minutes you probably won't be happy though. The meals were hot! The bread was fresh and hot as well. Back to the desserts. This is a nice restaurant for a rural location. I've been here several times, all a good experience. The menu is diverse and the ambiance is pleasant. Just stopped in for lunch with my son. The food was amazingly good! I had the spinach salad and the strawberries were fresh and sweet and the spinach was nice and crisp. This place does not care about their customers at all. I just picked up a take out order...it's raining, walked in and fell on the wet, slippery floor. A manager came out and asked if I was ok and when I said I was a little sore he just walked away. I thought maybe he was getting a mop, but nope, he disappeared until I was walking out and said to the cashiers that maybe someone should get a mop before someone else falls. Get home and my salad was in the same bag as my daughters hot food, so the salad was warm and wilted. I want to like this place so much because I live close by and there aren't many options without driving to Vineland/Millville area. My wife and I have been here many times and always find that there has been a consistent degradation of the food quality and staffing. I'm not saying the staff are bad but they appear to need some more help and training. Our recent visit has prompted this review as follows: We checked their website and facebook for any happy hour specials they had but found outdated and vague information. Upon arrival, there was a chalkboard with some "specials" scribbled on it that turned out to be inaccurate. We sat at the bar and immediately noticed the bar stools were jammed in there so close together we could barely get into our seats. We eventually moved one of the stools on our own and everyone at the bar thanked us for the extra elbow room. We asked the bartender what their happy hour specials were and this set off a wild goose chase that took several minutes for her to figure it out. When we got our answer, it was still very vague with her telling us "bud light bottles and stuff like that are $2.50." We ordered the bang bang shrimp, traditional hot wings and the tomato pie. Let me say that we hate being the people that complain about our food and normally suck it up but my wife absolutely couldn't eat the shrimp. The wings on the other hand are consistently excellent. I wish they had a wing night because the $10 for 10 wings is a bit much. Meanwhile, I had overheard the bartenders talking about pizzas being ready and pointing over at us. Literally over a half hour later, our pizza showed up ice cold. I could tell they knew they screwed up when they brought it to us. I wish they would have just owned up to it. I've had this pizza in the past and it is excellent and reminds me of tomato pies found in northeast Philadelphia. This Pizza reminded me of eating cold leftover pizza because it was room temperature. Although we are giving this place two stars, we will be back. It is mostly an issue with understaffing and poor management of manpower. It appears they have 2 bartenders making drinks for the whole place. They are seriously overrun. The place is clean and the food is mostly excellent although slightly overpriced. I attended a wake here this past weekend and the service was great, and the food was even better. We were a group of 30+ and we had a wonderful experience. We paid roughly $18 a plate for adults and $10 a plate for kids. It included everything (drinks, & gratuity). We were given salads and bread to start and a pick of 4 meals, we ordered, received our salads and bread, by the time we were done with those the meals were there. The management at this place is piss poor , I took my girlfriend out for her birthday with a group of family and friends , it took almost an hour just for out appetizers to come out and then another 40 minutes for our food by the time the food came out I no longer wanted it , I was already upset about the wait . Off of Route 49 across from the infamous Hopewell Custard is Hopewell, NJ's answer to fine-dining: The Green Olive. Serving as the only Italian restaurant in the Bridgeton/Hopewell area, the Green Olive attempts to mimic the well-known franchise, Olive Garden, for local residents. The well-lit building is easily identifiable between the gas stations near the busy intersection of 49 and West Park Drive. The restaurant stands tall as an Italian-style estate with classic Italian music blasting from the many exterior speakers. Upon entering, customers are greeted by a sweet-faced hostess and a fishpond with foot-long koi, turtles, and catfish. The restaurant's décor resembles its franchised competitor with green carpets, plush booths, and a homey fireplace. Although the Green Olive is BYOB, it shouldn't take away from the rare gem hidden in South Jersey's farm country. Shouldn't. We soon found out during dinner that perhaps being a bit intoxicated would have taken away from the mediocre and hostage-like dinner we were about to endure. The servers appeared to be very inexperienced, forgetful, and ignorant of the menu. Soda refills took at least 20 minutes to retrieve and table "check-ups" were quite infrequent. Although sweet, the servers appeared like robots instead of real, breathing people. Their responses were canned, the smiles were too wide, and their bodies were tense. My guest and I ordered very simple and common appetizers that are rather difficult to mess up. The Caesar salad was presented on a cute square plate with hand-shredded cheese sprinkled about it. The lettuce appeared fresh and crisp. The dressing, however, resembled the taste and texture of paste. After a few bites of the glue and green mixture, we were proud to name Green Olive as #1 for most disgusting salad. Perhaps watering down and adding a bit more anchovies to the dressing would have made it taste a little less wretched. The French Onion soup was only a little bit better. At least this appetizer had flavor, but the mud-like consistency of the soup made each bite absolutely disgusting. Our entrees, chicken parmesian and fettuccini alfredo, took over 45 minutes to be served. Had the restaurant been busy, this would not have been much of an issue. However, considering we were the only customers in the entire restaurant at the time, the time lapse seemed like an eternity. Aside from the soup, the chicken parmesian was the only item on the menu that was edible with flavor. The chicken breast was thick and the breading was flavorful and crisp. The marinara sauce was a good combination of sweet and spicy. However, the fettuccini alfredo was lacklustre at best. The meal was hardly hot, even barely room temperature. The pasta was overcooked and began to resemble mashed potatoes as I started poking my fork around. The alfredo sauce was also pasty like the Caesar dressing was. After watching our server joke with another co-worker for nearly a half hour instead of fetching our drink refills, we spent another 20 minutes waiting for our check. After spending nearly $50 on a two-person dinner, we left without our refills and extremely disappointed. Although the owners of Green Olive are Turkish, not Italian, the simple and common items we ordered were not going to get the benefit of the doubt. While the items are priced higher than the franchise Green Olive tried to compete with, the quality of the meal was worse than the items on McDonald's Dollar Menu. Overall, our meal resembled much like a stay at the local county jail. The relaxing dinner soon became a hostage situation with cafeteria grub. I've been to this restaurant many times. I've seen them expand from a small diner type to where they are now. Food is good and the service I experienced was usually good...in fact the owner always greeted me and my family at our table. However, they have a serious problem with flies to the point where I felt like me and my food was under attack the last time I was there. This has been a problem for a while and don't know why it hasn't been corrected. I understand flies will sometimes get into a restaurant but when you find yourself constantly fighting flies at your table...thats a problem. And, this is on more than one occasion. I was told the management has changed and I no longer see the owner in the restaurant. Its a nice place to go in that area but they need to work some on things. I was so disgusted with the flies the last time I was there that I had my server bring me a to-go container so I could just leave. read more

Ordered a delivery to be brought to my work, a sausage egg and cheese, looked at my receipt, got charged a "utensil fee" of .99c. i called surely thinking this was a mistake. they told me no this gets applied to every order that has to be wrapped and or bagged for " supplies" they are using. I said all you used was a piece of tin foil to wrap my hard roll sandwich, but they insisted thats what they do and rudely at that. as im speaking with this rude woman i am opening my sandwich to find the sausage being burnt to a crisp. literally black. i told her and she said okay hold on. places me on hold WHILE IM AT WORK for 10 WHOLE MINUTES. then comes back to say okay the driver left with your new sandwich. i said i dont want another one im very upset with the service you provided i would just like my money back. she said sorry he already left with your sandwich, as if it was too bad what i wanted. i said i dont want it ill have the sandwich ready when he comes for him to take and i want my order refunded. she said yup okay and hungup on me. because I WAS AT WORK the guy showed up without my knowledge throwing the new sandwich on our front desk and left. I come back and find it and call them back saying, they just left the sandwich now i have 2 for you. she said "oh my god, are you serious..... ok" and hung up again. at this point i have spoken to more than 1 girl who both knew what was happening. not one had the sense to be polite or apologize through any of this. i waited 2 hours, nothing. called back, when is he coming to pick these up and bring my void receipt? "sorry were busy we cant worry about that right now" i said okay when do you think? "when we arent busy *hangs up* " another hour goes by, i said i have to leave work soon what is going on? "we are not coming to pick up the sandwiches" i said you said you were and to bring me my receipt, let me talk to your boss. "hes not going to deal with this right now" i said okay ill be there after work and hungup. i left work and went right there and showed them my receipt. they went in back for 5 min and made me stand there. one older woman comes out takes the sandwiches, i say the driver can keep his tip, but i want my money back. she hands me 6$ cash, while my receipt that i paid for a card with the first time said 6.63 i just looked at her. she said "thats what my boss told me to give you" i turned around and walked out. Best place to eat in the Bridgeton area. Cream of crab soup on Fridays is the best! The veal is very good as well. Breakfast prices are good and they give very large portions. As mentioned in some other reviews, the food can be a little bland, but the fresh ground pepper helps a lot. We go for lunch and the soup almost every Friday. read more
