My daughter had the Hangover, it's veryyy thick bread but she liked it. My dad got the frittata but he thought it was over cooked. My mom got the BAT Flat and enjoyed it. First time at the Gregory! The Forever Green was absolutely fabulous. My girlfriend ordered gumbo for us to share. Neither of us really cared for it but it wasn't the absolute worst thing we've ever eaten. She had the BAT which we both liked a lot. We also shared the chopped salad. I don't think I've ever had a salad so fresh in a restaurant. The dressing was just the right amount. My only complaint would have to be the gumbo. The decor is absolutely gorgeous. Took my girlfriend here on a date, beautiful ambiance. The Gregory is located right downtown Baton Rouge, close to everything. We parked in a parking garage close by because there was an event going on at the same time. The restaurant is on the first floor of a hotel and I would definitely describe it as a "fine dining experience". I would highly recommend the frog legs and the crawfish flatbread. Most of the crowd that was their was either young professionals and couples--no kids. Everyone was very social and I attribute that to the act that to the well stocked bar and professional bartenders. My girlfriend and I were in and out quickly. I would not recommend for families or if your on a tight budget. Otherwise, this is definitely an experience you have to enjoy to get the real taste of downtown Baton Rouge! read more

After a long day of travel we landed at our hotel tired and hungry. It was dark so we didn't want to have to find a place so we walked downstairs of the hotel. So glad we did! Ryan was our waiter and he was perfect. He was friendly and knowledgeable and stepped up to our WI Old Fashion challenge. The food was plentiful and the desserts were not too big but rich and satisfying. We tried the chopped salad, crab cake, and the pasta with chicken. This place is absolutely beautiful on the inside. The setting for the table is nice. Unfortunately it is very very loud. I had a very hard time hearing our server- can't tell if she was too soft spoken ? Anyways the seats are very comfortable and the hostess is super sweet. They do valet and the guy who did it was super sweet as well. The menu is on a tablet and you can see a picture of what your meal will generally look like when you click on the menu item. We started off with scallops- kinda pricey for two scallops but the scallops had a lot of flavor. My main meal was duck. The green beans/ bacon/ sauce/ sweet potato was really good. My duck was very thin and very fatty. Fatty to the point to where I couldn't chew it enough to break it down. My fiancé ordered a steak medium rare and it was pretty much well done- he hates sending food back. He's more of a "i just won't eat here again type of guy." So that was disappointing. We got a cream brûlée but was not told that it was coffee flavored * neither of us enjoy a coffee flavor. So I just ate the sugar and berries off the top. My fiancé also got a crown and sprite and it was in a small cup and hardly had any crown. So he asked if they could pour it in another cup and with just a drop of water on the next drink. This was the best dinner I had that didn't include an entree. Their gumbo is very good. The sausage was like a meatball, so you could crush it up and have a little with every bite. Awesome! I like to come here to feel fancy. The lobby of the Watermark Hotel serves as the dining room for The Gregory as well. Located in an historic Louisiana building, the décor and accoutrements are opulent and comfortable. All the menus are presented on interactive touchscreen tablets that allow you to scroll through pages and touch on individual items to see a picture and read a description of the item. This may be old hat in major metropolitan cities, but a first (that I know of) in Baton Rouge. As you're escorted to the table you can watch 2 or 3 chefs quietly but busily working in the open kitchen. While perusing the aforementioned tablet, the server provides ice cold water from a large jug. Sipping your water, you will notice that the tables, silver, cloth napkins and chairs are all quite elegant. I've come on lunch for several occasions. First timer, Date with a radiant woman and a going away lunch for a co-worker. On two occasions I had what they call the Express Lunch and the other I partook in the burger. I must preface this by saying: there is nothing express about this restaurant. Be prepared to relax and take your time. The service, while helpful and polite, is dreadfully slow. The food delivery time is quite a bit longer than expected, but this can be attributed to the small number of kitchen staff, and even waiting for your check (which is delivered in an old book that encourages your comments to be submitted on the inside cover) seems to be coming from out of state. That being said, the food is worth it (if you have time). The Express Lunch is a wonderful concept that has been presented excellently on both occasions that I've tried it. It consists of a main course, salad, soup and dessert, all for $15. It also comes with house made chips and a dressing to dip. My first experience was blackened redfish, quinoa salad, crab and corn bisque, bread pudding and corn fritters. Everything was prepared expertly and was delicious. My second Express Lunch consisted of pork tenderloin over hash browned potato, spinach salad, sausage gumbo and tiramisu. Once again, I was very pleased with this dish, however the tenderloin wasn't extremely tender but I could overlook this seeing as they were putting out hundreds of plates this day and it can't be perfect every time. The burger was overcooked and charred on the outside. This was surprising considering how long we waited for it to be prepared. My ravishing date had a crawfish flatbread pizza that was tasty but a bit...crawfishy. I will try the burger again someday, just in case they were having a bad day. Overall, I recommend The Gregory for lunch any day that you are not in a hurry. The lunch prices are very reasonable and the building and dining room are stunning. We have been in Baton Rouge just over a year and have tried to eat at locally owned restaurants. We ate at The Gregory tonight, and not only was the food amazing, but the hostess, Cheletta, was the most hospital and friendly person I've ever encountered in a restaurant. The food was excellent! Pork and oysters were incredible, and the smoky tomato Basil soup was divine! My husband had the shrimp tortellini, and he said it was delicious. We will be back! I visited The Gregory for lunch today. I chose the Express Lunch Special and it included; gumbo, ceasar salad, red fish, lemon icebox pie and a sampling of their house potato chips. Everything came all at once on one tray. The best way to describe it is an "upscale school lunch" It was delicious. If I had one critique, it would be the service. I received my food fairly quickly but a guest next to me was there over an hour and never got his order. Also, on the website it stated that a non-alcoholic beverage was included with the Express Lunch but I was charged for my tea separately. OMG!!! This place is amazing! The oysters are HUGE! My father always wants to come here when he is in town because his is just obsessed with oysters. The soups are so stinkin' yummy that I just want to lick the bowl. The alcoholic beverage options are very nice, and the bartender can make practically anything your heart desires. Yum! Clean, new, nice staff and delicious food. Never had frog legs before so ordered that right up. They came out and we're devoured within 5 minutes. The Gregory offers some of the best below-the-radar vegan fine dining in Baton Rouge. There are almost no vegan options on the menu -- but the key is to CALL AHEAD about a week before you visit, and explain your dietary restriction to the manager, when making the reservation. Ask that the chef prepare something special to accommodate your dietary restriction. When I dined there with a group of meat-eaters, since they were expecting me, they had prepared the best plant-based pasta dish I've ever had in BR *and* a custom vegan dessert board with a gelato and a tartlette. (Maybe also visit on a weeknight when they aren't super busy, if you ask for this -- it takes time and planning on their part, which might not be possible on a super-busy night.) They pulled out all the stops to offer me a superb meal with an interesting, delicious entree and special dessert. If you have a vegan in your party, don't be afraid of the limited menu--just give them a heads-up so that they can plan to make dinner special for everyone in the party, even those with dietary restrictions. I think it's a hallmark of a great chef du cuisine when he or she is willing to go the extra mile to dream up a special meal to accommodate dietary restrictions. Bravo!!! read more

The moment you walk into the Watermark Hotel, you see the elegance of The Gregory restaurant and bar. This place is exquisite! Everything from the wine room to the open kitchen, you just can't help but fall in love with it over and over again. I am kind of obsessed with ambiance and that element here is just breathtaking. I could sit in their bar lounge, drink a banana Manhattan and snack on their savory bites probably all day. That feeling of "come, stay and relax" just fills the air, whenever I am there. I have had many of their small bites, some are better than others, but I am just so fixated on relaxing that I don't care to judge how much I love a dish over another. The service has always been attentive, fast and just plain nice. I don't think I have ever encountered a server, bartender or hostess that I was not pleased with. If you have not been here yet, you're going to love it. So, please don't miss out on this epic downtown restaurant masterpiece. Make sure to walk around the hotel a bit to explore. Although we had reservations, we had to wait 30 minutes for a table. Had drinks at the bar; superb bartender. The space is pretty, comfortable, clean, and not loud. The food varied from very good to mediocre to bad. The flatbread was very good. Gumbo came out without the advertised poached again. Sent it back and was given a fresh bowl with a boiled egg and no explanation why. When I commented to the (overworked) waiter that the egg was boiled and not poached, she said "oh, really?" -- and I've no clue if she was merely uninformed or being cute. In any event, the gumbo was not good (the roux flavor had not been cooked out) and went uneaten. The shrimp and grits combo was horrible; the sauce tasted like poor quality balsamic vinegar and the shrimp were meager and undercooked. One companion described the chicken and waffles as "nothing special." Another said the vault burger was wonderful. Overall, an uneven experience. Having dined here before, I know the restaurant can be much better, and I encourage it to try harder. read more

3.5 stars. The restaurant smelled like something was burning pretty much the whole time. They need better ventilation if they're going to have an open kitchen. The staff was pleasant and attentive, but the entree did take quite a while and there was only 4 occupied tables while we were there. The fried green tomatoes were quite different than any we've ever had. The tomato was strait up raw, but the breading wasn't bad. My entree was the red fish, which was pretty tasty. The fried potato leek fritters were awesome! They should sell those as an appetizer as well. So now for the dessert, which I hate to give a bad review because it was gratis. However, I want to be honest. We had the bread pudding, which was very dry and served in a searing hot cast iron ramekin. Be careful... you will burn yourself. I no longer have a finger print on my left index finger thanks to that little lava dish. They could rescue the recipe with some good creme anglaise and better plating, so it's not hopeless. With a few tweaks this restaurant could be a solid 4 star, maybe even 4.5. read more

We decided on a ladies night here on a fairly quiet Wednesday. The atmosphere was really nice, and i like the open room concept. There are so many small touches that made the experience special. While I like the tablet ideas, honestly, seeing the pictures of the food was kind of a turnoff for all of us. My friends each had a Manhattan to start with and they said the drink was really good. It was really hard to decide what to order, so we all took a different route. We had a few appetizers and ordered our dishes. The scallops were really good and cooked just right. My main dish was the redfish, and i highly recommend it. I wasn't turned on by the description, but it was way better than it sounded. As for the service, we did feel a bit neglected at times. While I certainly appreciate not being hovered over, we were there a lot longer than I really felt was necessary. It was nice to enjoy the company of friends, but there were times when we were looking around kind of wondering if were ignored. Our dinner was nice. Hunter made it a great experience as did the dining room manager. The swamp flatbread was excellent and The Gregory steak was seasoned but was cooked quite under. If you order the 8 oz filet you might want to order one level up from how you generally enjoy your steak to get the center done correctly and to your liking. The staff attention really made the experience where the kitchen missed. The background music was just a little loud and might have made the guests speak a little louder to each other.
