This place is so super cute! So shocked we haven't had the chance to check this place out until now, but glad to finally visit! Although this restaurant is smaller in size and inside of a hotel (The Watermark no less), its totally giving me upscale vibes. I absolutely adore the chandeliers that hang above the dining area with the bike chain accents that you might miss if you're not paying close attention to detail. The oversized matchbox is so my cup of tea and the restroom decor is TO DIE FOR! From the communal sink that gives bath vibes, to the wall to ceiling decorative mirror, to the yellow doors with golden handles, its bathroom a girl could get comfy in...and that doesn't happen often! Now to the food and drinks. So I had The Alchemist which is basically some divine version of a mimosa. It has hints of strawberry and a dash of vodka I believe. Try it. Trust me. As for the food. Listen. I got the Marchè flatbread which was divine. The flavor profiles of the yellow beet, with feta, pesto and pea tendrils with honey. Yasssssss. Oh and the crust was perfectly executed. My only gripe was that the chef seemed a lil salt happy. Other than that, perfs. The gentleman had the vault burger and aside from heavy salt, he thought it to be a damn good burger. My boyfriend and I dined here on Valentine's Day and had a great dinner as well as great service! The restaurant decor is high-end and the bathroom is absolutely luxurious. The menu is also on a touch screen and you are able to view photos of everything along with a description. For appetizers we ordered Korean Pork Belly offered on the V-Day menu that totally melted in my mouth and super flavorful. They should definitely consider putting that on the permanent menu tbh. I ordered the duck from the regular menu and my boyfriend ordered braised short rib offered on the V-Day menu. Of course I ended up liking his short rib entree way better and we switched our plates. I do have to say the cocktails we ordered were overpriced at $14, and the taste just didn't justify that. For desserts we ordered a bread pudding and a chocolate mousse cake offered on the regular menu. I absolutely loved the chocolate mousse cake, but the bread pudding was disappointingly average. My friends and I stayed a night at the Watermark and decided to have dinner at the Gregory. The ambiance was perfect. The servers were a delight. Especially Ember, she was super sweet and took great care of us. I'm giving this place 3 stars because the drinks were amazing and so was our server. The food was a disappointment. Everything was overly seasoned with lemon and garlic and overpriced. They also used this strange tasting "paste" on a lot of the dishes. It was on the oysters, the steak and the pork, super weird taste.I didn't enjoy not one portion of our meal. My bill was 136 dollars and it was definitely not worth it. My friends unfortunately shared the same thoughts. One friend even had to exchange her meal. So glad we had amazing drinks to make up for the lackluster food. read more

I brought my wife here for our anniversary and we quite enjoyed it. I had the seasonal red snapper and my wife the garden ravioli. Everything came out better than expected. I loved my fish because it had a honey glaze, but the bed of rice it lay on had a little spicy kick. Such a delight, as far as food goes. We had Jeremy as a waiter and he was very on top of it, friendly, and knowledgeable about the dishes. The place was clean and quiet. I would definitely recommend for a night out. I stayed at the Watermark and at first I was hesitant to go to this restaurant over others in the city but it was my favorite one! The place is beautifully designed, grey atmospheres, all the servers are so friendly and very attentive! I had the Seersucker Pie & Pork and Oysters, I was in a rush to get to the airport and everything was down in a timely manner. The menu looks amazing. The ambiance is quiet and chill. I ordered the grilled mushrooms and blistered shishito peppers to start. The mushrooms were delicious and perfect. The peppers were in need of sea salt. I ordered the filet mignon medium rare for the main, listed on the menu as The Gregory. Unfortunately the cook on the steak was overdone. I wanted to power through it being over cooked, but the cut of the filet was terrible--full of gristle and terribly chewy. The side of wilted spinach had the salt the blistered peppers lacked. It was far too salty to enjoy. The truffle fries were delicious. It's unfortunate on a $50 plate the French fries were the only standout item. All in all, nothing to come back for. read more

My wife and I decided to go to the Gregory for our anniversary dinner. We did an assortment of small plates, which meant that we could sample and share a bunch of interesting things from the kitchen. The crab cakes were to die for -- possibly the best I've ever had. The pork and oysters were similarly scrumptious. And the sensation salad was ... a sensation! I absolutely love this place! They had me at tableside French-pressed coffee! Really, the whole experience is such a cool fusion of old and new! The menus are all on tablets which I'm sure makes changing up the menu very simple and more environmentally friendly for sure! But then between the original frescos above and the classic storybooks that the bill is presented in, you get a real taste of having a meal in the early 1900's. I have been here two times now. Once for brunch and once for dinner. I do have to say that I turkey enjoyed brunch much more but I am pretty sure it was because it was coffee drinking time where as for dinner, I ordered wine which for me is not nearly as wonderful! But, both times were very tasty. For brunch, I ordered some sort of breakfast flatbread with an egg on it. Loved it but the best was the French press coffee maker they brought out just for me! For dinner, I order some sort of crawfish flatbread. It was good too but the breakfast one was much better! At least for me. read more

One of my favorite places in Baton Rouge! The Gregory is on the main floor of the hotel and while the bar area is small, it's a "who's who" during Happy Hour (especially when the Capitol is in session). I've been more than once now, and my last meal of chargrilled oysters was so divine, I had to stop and write-up this five star review. Bartenders are always friendly and attentive. This was my first time eating here. I have stayed at the Watermark a couple of times. The food was really good but the service was top notch. Our waitress (didn't remember her name) was so helpful. We ordered oysters and frog legs as apps. I had the gregory steak and my boyfriend has seared duck and mushroom ravioli. The steak was cooked to perfection and the butter topping made it so much better! I don't eat frog or duck but my boyfriend said they were both delicious. However, my favorite thing was the green beans thats came with the duck! They were crisp and cooked with bacon. I could seriously eat an entire plate. Overall, great food and service!! read more

Walked in on a Saturday night at prime time and the restaurant was only half full, which made me nervous. The lobby to the hotel that' the restaurant sits in is beautiful. I ordered the gumbo and the duck and my wife ordered the redfish entrée. All three were absolutely fantastic. We were both very pleasantly surprised. The duck was served with shishito peppers instead of the beans listed on the menu.The peppers worked great with the duck and probably does taste better than the beans. Drinks were also excellent and they have a very nice wine selection. Overall seems like a very underappreciated restaurant for Baton Rouge. read more

Nice Restaurant! The atmosphere is nice and relaxing. The menu is on a tablet. I loved that the menu included pictures of the items when you press on the item name. Our table ordered steaks. The Gregory (Filet $45), Ny Strip ($35) and Bread Pudding are amazing! The steaks are a little pricey, but they were good. I normally order steak medium but here I would suggest going medium rare. The bread pudding was one of the best I've had in a long time. Everything was clean and well kept. The bathroom was beautiful and had an amazingly large mirror and the sinks had Loccitane Hand Wash. At the end of dinner, our server brought the check in a children's book. She asked us to sign the book and explained why they bring the book out. I thought this was cute. I think this may be the best kept secret in Baton Rouge. Our food was fantastic and the service was excellent. There were 6 of us and everyone loved their meal. When you first walk into Watermark Hotel in downtown Baton Rouge, you're blown away how gorgeous the decors are. It is Great Gatsby meet contemporary art, with a whimsical touch here and there. Right in front of you, where you're expecting a lobby and check-in counters, you're greeted with an open-concept view of the entire restaurant. There is a full service bar to your left, the dining area in the middle, and the kitchen with counter top services to your right. There is even a gorgeous private room to your farther right...with a large wall lined with wine bottles. It is an interior trend that I've notice a lot of restaurants are going with. This particular date night, my awesome boyfriend and I was on a "restaurant hopping" adventure; with The Gregory as the first stop. Instead of ordering main entrees, we opted to order a bunch of appetizers. The foie gras was bland, but paired with a pear and spinach, tossed in an exquisite tangy citrus sauce. The seasonal harvest app and their Brussels sprouts app was disappointing, for both barely had much seasoning. The redfish pâté in a mason jar was a nice touch, and the padron peppers were ok. It was nice to watch the kitchen, and watch the way some of the food was prepared in the open fire oven. As other reviews may have mention, they use electronic tablets as their menus. As you click on the name of the dishes or drinks, it will show you the description and/or a picture of that particular item. I find it useful when being a visual person when it comes to ordering. The drinks were great. Kudos to the bartender! The only other complaint I would have to make, in which another reviewer has already mention: the service is extremely slow. We sat for a good while before anyone came to us. And when we did have someone attend to us, we had not one, not two, not three....but five different people. A bit confusing bc we didn't know whom our server of the evening was. Oh! And because we had a few food allergy/intolerances, I asked one of the hostess before hand to please help me check with the kitchen before we made a table obligation. She said ok, but didn't inquire for us. Another really nice gal came up to us a bit later and asked if we needed anything. When I relayed the same info, she immediately got us an answer! I wish I remembered to get her name, bc she was the reason we decided to stay and eat. We stayed at Watermark for a night while bringing our plane in for service. Given that we're at the end of the pandemic, I was so happy to find out The Gregory was open later than most restaurants are these days. We kept pushing our reservation to the last one (9:30pm). We were greeted by a hostess with a lot of personality because the first thing she said was, "Are you the people who keep moving your reservation? 8:30, 9, and now 9:30?" We all laughed!! My husband and I sat at the bar and shared the frog legs (REALLY GOOD!...the tomato chutney was really tasty) and salmon crocket. We were already full and satisfied but ordered 2 flat breads, anyway. Private Events are held right in front of the volt where money was saved in the past. It is so meaningful to event walk around that building. Exhibits of the founding fathers wearing this century's apple gadgets is innovative. The ambience and food is unique and comes in elegant portions to make you want to try all possible options. Now, let me preface this by saying, I enjoyed my overall experience here, however there were some things that started off rather...odd and made for a weird experience. I live downtown, so I love trying out new places all around the city, but especially around my area. I looked for some happy hour spots for a friend and I, and stumbled upon The Gregory's website and thought it sounded really cool, and to top it off, had some cool HH specials. So my friend and I decided to try this place out for happy hour. I emphasize happy hour, because when we got there...it seemed as though our bartender wanted to "pretend" like she didn't know anything about such a thing...which was very strange. We sit and I ask her if they have any drink specials to which she replies: "yeah but you just missed happy hour so..." I know this isn't true, because we literally made it right before it ended (annoying, but blame the after work traffic). Anyway so I'm like, "oh really, what time does it end?" And she looks at the clock and says, "ohhh um actually there are still ten minutes." Cool. So we order our drinks. I ask her if they have any food specials, mostly because I'm awkward and want to make sure whatever I already read about, still exists and she replies no, that there are no food specials. So at this point I'm a little weirded out because I'm pretty positive I'd read a lot about their happy hour burger and fries and really wanted to try it out, so I figured maybe they just didn't do it anymore... but then remembered it's mentioned a handful of times on their website from when I'd looked earlier in the day. So I decide to ask about it and she's like, "oh are you looking at our website right now? Yeah we have that..." Uh, wait so you knew about that the whole time? Okay, weird, because there are "no food specials" but whatever, so we order it. Now all of this was VERY STRANGE. She was nice but I just don't get why she seemed uninterested in telling us anything about happy hour or the drink specials. I mean, for first timers in your restaurant that's a pretty big selling point, right? She was nice after that, but that whole situation just put my friend and I a bit off. Eventually someone else took over at the bar and he was great, so we felt less uncomfortable and enjoyed our time. The food was awesome and the drinks (some cocktail that was wedding cake themed) were really tasty, not to mention it's such a pretty place! I would like to come back because we had really good food, good drinks, and eventually better service. However, I hope that we won't have a weird experience like that again. I don't get why you wouldn't want to tell your customers about happy hour or specials?? Especially, when it's possible they know about it and it's obvious you're pretending you don't. Loved the ambiance, interior, popping ladies room, hence picked this restaurant for the birthday dinner. I made reservations via Opentable and noted it was a birthday party. We started of with some drinks at the bar. I tried their 1975 and Mask off Margarita. Loved the first drink but not the latter. We then moved to our tables to get started. Ordered the following apps and they were all FIRE! -Redfish pate -Pork & oysters -Brussels sprouts -Korean corn (Though I think the latest menu had a different name on it for this dish) I ordered the Redfish offering for my entree. The fish itself was good but not anything extra ordinary. I did however loved the sides that came with this. The entree was paired with potato leek fritters & fire-roasted green tomatoes. OMG, they were so good. I am not a fan of tomatoes at all but I loved eating these. The experience was so great but I was a little disappointed with the fact no one acknowledged me for my birthday or the celebration. I had a birthday tag on me along with some other party ornaments. I'm not cheap but I do look forward for my special moment to enjoy a complimentary dessert but was let down with none. The Gregory is quite literally one of the finest dining experiences I've had in a while. I was in Baton Rouge on business, so while I've only been to The Gregory once, I'll certainly be back! Cheletta (maître d') is about as awesome as a human being can be - a trove of warmth, insight and candid appreciation for everything served - and the food is nothing short of mind-blowing. We started with Brussels sprouts and a wedge salad, had duck as the main course, and finished with bread pudding and vanilla ice cream. We chose this restaurant because it was our team dinner night. I absolutely loved the ambiance, and my server was very accommodating. I first ordered the sensation salad, which was FANTASTIC I literally cleaned the plate. I also tried one of my coworkers oysters and it was cooked to perfection. My issue with the restaurant was that my duck breast was burnt, and three of my coworkers burgers were burnt as well. I told the manager about the situation, and he gave us free desert. I appreciated the offer; I told the one of the host about my food they informed me that another table had the same problem. It seems as if the problem did not get rectified. You can't promote yourself as a premier restaurant if you can't execute to superior results. I will be back and hopefully the food will be up to par. read more
