We decided to try Colonel's Club for our anniversary after hearing some good things, but the experience was a bit of a mixed bag. The Tuscan Meatballs were a rough start--they arrived ice cold. Even worse, when we sent them back, they clearly just reheated the same plate (the meatball with a bite out of it was still there) instead of bringing out a fresh dish. For the price, that's a pretty big disappointment. For entrees, I had the Smash Burger, which was fairly bland and nothing to write home about. However, the Lobster Ravioli was incredible--a total 10/10--and the Brussels sprouts were excellent as well. We finished with the cheesecake, which was also a highlight. The atmosphere was nice, staff were pretty good and it's a very popular place to grab a drink. While the food definitely improved as the night went on, the "hit or miss" nature of the meal and the service mishap with the appetizer made it hard to justify the price tag. On a Tuesday night I was looking for a calm bar to read my book and drink some wine, and I happened upon here. The windows are covered with curtains so you can't see inside and that's a small detail I would change. It's not very inviting. There was a lounge area but the piano was way too loud so I ended up at the main bar which was a great vibe. The place was mostly empty, which is unfortunate because it's a really great location and the place a beautiful. I think the concept needs to be switched up a bit. The Brussels Sprouts were delicious, but if you don't like goat cheese, make sure to ask them to leave it out. The meatballs were just okay, and lacked and special flavor. The Colonel's Club is arguably the best restaurant in Baton Rouge. The restaurant is beautiful inside and the decor is stunning. The servers were also very nice. We got the whipped ricotta dip for an appetizer which was very tasty and I loved the grilled bread it came with. I got a lobster roll for my entree and I was blown away. It was honestly better than the ones I've had in the north east! The truffle fries were also great, I just wish they came with a garlic aioli instead of ketchup. The drinks were also super good. The margarita came with a sugar cube they lit on fire and it was super fun presentation. The espresso martini with tequila was the best drink I had. Best atmosphere - upscale without being pretentious. Our server was especially helpful and we were served fast, but not too fast - ya know? We tried the tuna appetiser which was delicious, could have used a few more of the crisps to go with it - so maybe ask for some in advance. This place is usually very very good. This past time that we went the food was not great . The salad was soggy. The shrimp was over seasoned and my fish was bland. The last two times that I have been the food was actually really good. I am not sure if they got a new chef or what the change in the kitchen was, but I left feeling disappointed in the food that I got . The service was really good. Our server was really nice and very thorough. He explained the menu properly and informed us of the specials . The actual restaurant is very nice. There's different areas that you can sit in. There's the bar area with the piano. The bathrooms were really pretty. Underwhelmed. I've been here several times for brunch and always had a great experience. This was my second time for dinner. The first time, our service was meh. Our waiter couldn't hear us so we had to repeat everything as he leaned in to listen. Food was fine but for dinner, I really expected attentive and professional service. Gave it another shot for dinner and this time our server was even worse. It was bizarre. Instead of serving our plates and drinks on the table, she handed everything across the table and we had to pass it. When taking our order, rather than moving along the table (there were 8 of us) she went all the way to one end and basically shouted to the other end. Then she couldn't hear our orders, forcing us to shout our orders so she could hear us. She also made us hand her back all of our dirty dishes. She didn't pick up any plates or glasses off of the table and waited for us to hand them to her. It was kind of weird. My daughter sat in the middle and basically bussed our table, passing everyone's plates down and across the table. Once we ordered, the apps and soups and salads came out quickly and were all delicious. But then it was 50 minutes before our entrees came out and several of them were cold. One entree was missing and the server said "someone took it" and they ran out of the fried rice that came with it and they had to make it. That entree finally came another 10 minutes later. One entree was sent back to be reheated because it was so cold. One of our cocktails was served in a chipped and cracked glass and when they brought the replacement drink, there was lipstick all over the rim and that also had to be replaced. After all this, not only was nothing comped or offered for our less than satisfactory experience, but a 20% gratuity was added to the bill automatically. I get that for a large group it is customary to include the tip, but when our experience was so underwhelming, it felt wrong. Bottom line, great vibe, some good food but service was lacking both times for dinner. Maybe they save the A team for brunch? Anyway, I give up. Won't be back again. read more

Highly recommend checking this place out whether it be for a date night or a friend's dinner! My best friend and I checked the place out for our quarterly meet up and it did not disappoint! We did book a reservation, even though we went for lunch just to be safe. They did mention that reservations were needed for the weekend. The restaurant is divided into two parts. One side is a cocktail bar that has a piano player several nights a week and a great fireplace to sit by and the other side is the restaurant. From the decor to the service, everything was completely outstanding. I highly recommend getting the brussels sprouts for a starter. Even if you were not a brussels sprout fan this place will make you become one! I got the lobster gnocchi and it definitely had a lot of lobster, but I probably would not recommend it. My friend got the steak and truffle fries, and it was completely outstanding! Our waiter was Chris and it was his first week and you would have never noticed because he was completely amazing! The parking here is a little wonky. You can park under the overpass by the supermarket across the street and just walk over. I saw a billboard for this establishment on Corporate. I made a reservation via open door. A friend had gone and said the drinks were great but she didn't try the food. OMG 20/10 so good that sauce is the star of the show. Get 2 orders they come with 5 and that is just not enough! The crispy Brussels sprouts were 100000/10 ok! Listen to me order these they are perfection. The sweet from the honey, the spice from the peanut, and that truffle goat cheese..... thank me later The smash burger with bacon (bacon is an up charge) 15/10. The beef was seasoned so well. I literally ate the whole burger. The fries were great they came out a little cold but it was ok because I don't care to eat fries like that. There was no need to have them re made My husband had the crispy pork and he said it was really. The egg is a must! He ordered the egg on the side because we were unsure but when he put it together he said the egg is necessary Lastly was the brûlée cheese cake! What a great new and different biz in Baton Rouge! Such a great part of town, right by BLDG 5 and ticked under the overpass, The Colonel's Club is a great place for a late night drink or dessert. I came here on a Tuesday night around 7. We told the hostess that we just wanted dessert, so she pointed us to the lounge part. There are two sides of this place: restaurant and lounge. What they failed to mention was that in the lounge we had to order everything at the bar, even the dessert. So, not knowing this, we sat down at a table because it is first come first serve in the lounge. We weren't approached by a waitress after like 15 mins, so we asked the hostess for the menu and how to order. After she told us, we were all good. But, I would have liked this mentioned as we were entering the lounge. We got the crème brûlée and the monkey bread. The monkey bread was to die for! It was like a giant cinnamon roll but even better. It was extremely hot and melty and was a pretty big portion. Way bigger than I was expecting. Once I ordered everything at the bar, it came out within 5-8 minutes, so not long at all. In the lounge, the ambiance was on point! A fireplace to open couches and tables to sectioned off rooms to a live piano player... this had it all and it made me feel as if I were in a speakeasy. I visited this establishment for an early dinner and was very pleased with the service. The sweet hostess gave us the history behind the restaurant which was quite interesting and features the infamous Barry Seals. We sat at the bar and bartender was very entertaining. The food and drinks were good. Overall the ambience is my favorite aspect of the restaurant. All the cocktails, appetizers and meals our table ordered were very good except the Lobster Gnocchi, which was highly recommended by our waitress. The gnocchi was rubbery and the lobster tail was very fishy tasting. Our table ordered the Lamb Shank and Beef Bolognese as well. Both tasted fabulous and the presentation was nice. The meals were also a tad cold (perhaps why the gnocchi was tough) so maybe some hiccups in the kitchen that will work out over time. The restaurant was very accommodating and offered a replacement meal instead we just ordered desserts. The chocolate cake and peach cobbler were worth all the extra calories! My friend and I had the whipped ricotta topped with hot honey and truffle oil grilled bread. The portion size was decent, but a few more slices wouldn't hurt. My drink of choice for the night was the Southtown sling. Bright flavors of pineapple and strawberry with a pleasant bite from the gin. My companion had the cedardale sour. Tangy and sweet. For dessert a decadent chocolate cake, great flavor, but a little dense and cold. The icing is thick and rich. We also tried the Baklava with pistachio ice cream. Would have preferred it to be slightly warm as the dessert was hard to eat, but the flavor was nice. The location has difficult parking. The inside is beautiful. The service was amazing. We were greeted with a card that said "happy anniversary" which was so thoughtful. Dinner was really good. We started with the shrimp cocktail. It was delic and the shrimp were a great size. My husband had the shrimp picatta and I had the short rib bolognese. My husband loved his. I thought the bolognese needed a different noodle like maybe a rigatoni since my noodles were really over cooked almost to mush. I took 1 start away for pasta being over cooked. We came here for some dessert after dinner. The interior of this building is beautiful. We asked the host stand where we could go to grab dessert and they suggested the lounge, so we headed that way. We grabbed a table. The lounge/bar is dimly lit, but had a roaring fire and a lot of cozy seating available. They also had a live piano player playing tunes, which was a nice touch. We waited for a bit, and asked the host if there are servers in here or we needed to order at the bar. We went to the bar, they gave us menus and we both decided on two different desserts. This was my first visit. My date made a reservation earlier in the week. The table was ready upon arrival. There was a guy playing piano in one dining room where it looked to have had a bar. We were seated toward the back of the other side just before the cute little tucked away booth seating. (Which I made a note to request one if I return just because the small table for two we had against the wall felt tight). We started with drinks that Natalie our server recommended. He had the old fashioned and I had the Bees Knees. We enjoyed our drinks and both stuck with our choices for the evening. We started with the meatballs. I enjoyed them. Entrees he had the shrimp picatta, I tried it. I had the scallops and risotto. Both dishes felt like they were missing one last finishing touch of seasoning. We were going to sit in the lounge, but it was full pretty early and the piano player/singer in there was extremely loud. As we were waiting, we had to wait for her to pause in her song to talk. The atmosphere in the lounge is very nice - dimly lit with nice chairs and couches. We decided to try our luck at getting a table without a reservation, and at first, they could not accommodate, but they quickly said they could squeeze us in, so that was just great luck! The restaurant side is well lit with lighter decor. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We had a couple of rounds of drinks and some appetizers. The apps were the brussels sprouts (I was told they were good), tuna tar tar (absolutely delicious), and the hummus plate (good). We all ordered small dishes for our meal because the apps were filling. I got the french onion soup which was perfectly done. Others enjoyed their dishes, but I can't remember what they had. As for the drinks, I had the smoked espresso martini with tequila, a fire margarita (that was fun), and we had wine. Management came by to check in on us, and we had great things to report. Roasted Cauliflower - just didn't taste like much. Wasn't bad but wasn't good either. Chicken Lettuce Wraps - once again ok but we left two of the four to be hauled off. Deviled eggs - I really am not enjoying writing this review honestly but - putting a pickled jalapeño slice on a bland tasting deviled egg is not going to make it magical. You've spent so much money on this renovation, please come to my house and I'll make you one of mine. Dippy Sandwich - maybe I misunderstood - there was nothing to dip it in - not that you could - the braised rib slid off the bread before you could lift - used a fork and knife - not a great pick on my part for a nice date night dinner. Flavor was ok. again nothing bad about it just nothing great or good about it. I thought the super thin fries were going to keep me from being hungry but unfortunately this was the worst item in total - they were cold and chewy. Sat too long in back after being made. For a throw back to the ritzy supper club bars of old, don't miss The Colonel's Club! Dark library vibe with lots of books, piano music and a roaring fire. We followed a guidebook suggestion and just popped in for a drink before dinner reservations elsewhere in the area (under a highway overpass, no less!) and we were certainly glad we did.
