I've eaten at the Grill & Eye before, but haven't gone back in a while. I went back today, and was surprised by the new atmosphere of the restaurant. It looks more well-kept, the menu looks more inviting, and the hospitality is above and beyond. The food was EXCEPTIONAL. I was genuinely blown away by the quality of our meal. I've tried countless brunch places all over South Shore and the greater Boston area, and I can genuinely say this place is my new favorite brunch spot. I frequently review breakfasts because breakfast is my favorite meal. My favorite place to eat breakfast is in a diner. While the Grill and Eye is not a diner, but a restaurant that serves a filling breakfast with all of the favorites that one might have when one goes to a diner, I am reviewing this establishment. As for the atmosphere in this place, it is very tiny and only has a small number of tables, it always has waitresses, hustling, heaping plates of eggs and bacon and French toast and pancakes and sausages, and home fries to the hungry folks, waiting at their small tables. You can count on the food being hot and fresh, which is what breakfast should be. You might have to wait a bit to get inside, but it's worth the wait. I really enjoyed that French toast so satisfying with sweet maple syrup and a mound of butter melting along the sides. I personally like that it is small because it's intimate. I like that it's crowded because it's popular. I like the way staff because they are always friendly. I definitely recommend that you check this place out. I must admit I have not tried anything but their breakfast here before. If the breakfast food is any indication of the tastiness of their other meals like lunch, I would recommend a visit. read more

Let's talk about the Greatness that is called "The Grill & Eye!" I was home on a visit and as always I try to engage a new restaurant. As my Bestfriend lives in Weymouth, I stumbled across The Grill & Eye on Yelp and we decided to go for breakfast. Before even getting there, the pictures I saw had me ready to eatttttttttttt. The location was super easy to find as it sits directly on the main road. Parking is scarce, however, there is street parking available and we were able to grab a good spot. Yaay! Walking in, the ambiance is super homely and gives the feel of a mom & pops kind of restaurant. It's small and quaint, however, they have made great use of the space. The waitress at the counter was very inviting and welcomed us with a huge smile and friendly Welcome In. As it is a seat yourself setup, we decided to sit near the back wall. Once seated the waitress was at our table immediately. She presented us with the menus and took our drink order. OhEmGee! Let's talk about the menu. There is no shortage of options whatsoever! The variation of food options truly make it a hard decision to figure out what you want. I'm all for ordering the entire menu, lol. In all seriousness, the menu is amazing and there is something for everyone regardless of what you have a taste for. I decided to order the platter with 2 Pancakes, Bacon, Sausage Links, and Eggs. As I don't eat eggs, I was excited that I was able to swap out my eggs for grits. It's the small things in life that mean the most. LoL! Once our order was placed, the excitement increased and we were ready to eat. Seeing the other orders come out for the tables around us truly increased the anticipation. Ha! Lucky for me, the food didn't take long at all. Everything was out in a timely manner and every single item on the plate was fresh. Speaking of fresh, all of the meat was quality cuts and the grits were real grits. The food was not only fresh but it was flavorful. The sweet to salt ratio provided by the pancake syrup and meat really made every single bite a mouth pleasing, flavor rewarding experience. The bacon was crispy and meaty. The pancakes were fluffy and a perfect size as they almost covered the entire plate. The sausage was flavorful and not too greasy, and best of all, the grits were not too watery or too stiff. The water to grit ratio was spot on and the natural grit flavor wasn't overpowered by the butter, yet the butter was present and added to the creamy smooth texture that was accomplished. Overall I am overjoyed by my meal, the service, and the pricing at The Grill & Eye and I will be returning the next time I'm home for a visit. read more

Very nice and cozy nook of a place. It looks like it's been open forever. I lived in the area for a long time. I knew about it but considered going there because I ran passed it yesterday and the smell did me in. I'm glad I went! The pancakes, OMG were the best. They do pancakes right. Very, very, very good. We had family of 5. It wasn't super busy l, but was consistent with people going in and out, so we had plenty of room to sit for our larger group size. Everyone commented that the food was great; cinnamon french toast, vegetarian omelet, pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage, chocolate milk, etc. Service was just the owners while we were there. Best blueberry pancakes in town! But they are a bit pricey. Real maple syrup isn't an option, unfortunately. With coffee the bill was about $15. (At Niko's pancakes are $8.75 and coffee is $2.95.) Nice waitress. The counter here is unusual. It seems to be homemade? It's very low. There are also normal tables. There's currently construction outside this diner. The waitress told me there's parking in the rear for 5 cars. I haven't tried that yet. read more

Diner type place, which I love for breakfast. We go here 3 times a month. Food is always hot and served pretty quickly. We love their hash - although I don't think it made on site. Coffee can be inconsistent, but always good - sometimes it's great. Our favorite dish is the hash skillet - which is far more food than you need for breakfast, but it's just so darn good! We've also had a number of omelettes here. and they have always been great. We aren't sweet b'fast eaters, so have never tried their pancakes, but they always LOOK terrific. My only criticism is that recently, the teen working there forget this isn't the teen lounge and can get lost in their own coversation and phone games/videos - and get a bit loud when friends stop in. (Nothing inappropriate/rude or just a bit overstepping - and forgetful) Please note: this hasnt affected service or the food just the comfort level. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my recent experience at The Grill and Eye warrants one. I ordered eggs, home fries, toast, and linguisa. Most of the food was reasonably prepared, with the exception of the toast. Of the two slices I received, one was the heel of the loaf. No one wants heel toast. Someone in the kitchen made a conscious decision to send this out. No one accidently toasts the heel of a loaf of bread and sends it out like it's just another slice. Did I complain to the server? No. Is this enough that I won't go back? Probably. If they are willing to send me a heel, what else is going on in the kitchen? Would they send me food that fell on the floor? They either don't care about quality or are in such a financial situation that the heel is going on the plate. So I feel it would be the same if some bacon hit the floor. 5 second rule? I can't chance it. There's another diner around the corner and a new breakfast place being built two blocks down the road. I'll be checking those out going forward. read more

I had the Elvis pancake special and they did a fantastic job with making sure there weren't a lot of the chocolate chips. The hot chocolate was on point as well. Located across the Shell gas station, this breakfast place is easy to miss! With ample amount of street parking, decent service, and 'okay' prices; I have to stick with a 3-star rating. The food is nothing spectacular or memorable as my order of the Early Bird breakfast included two French toasts along with two eggs of choice and slices of ham. The French toast was agreeably soggy and bland (even with syrup). My favorite part would have to be the ham though it was thoroughly black on both sides.. My boyfriend ordered the Cowboy's Special and it looked like a heart attack (in a good way) but was still subpar to other breakfast places close by such as Jimmy's Diner or the Mad Hatter's cafe. We arrived on a Saturday morning around 11am and there was an abundance of seating but it slowly started to fill around noon. Was trying to find a new breakfast place this past Saturday and happened upon he Grill & I (actually eye). Easily found on street parking and walked in to the small one room restaraunt. There were many 2 and four seater tables and a bar that seemed to be on the short side. Most of the tables were actually too close together so I had a hard time finding a table that I felt I could at (I've gained some weight but not this much!). Very sweet high school aged girl was our waitress. Service was great and atmosphere was nice. Looked like a lot of regulars came in and out. Food however was not very good. My pancakes were almost spongey and the eggs has little taste. I wouldn't come back since the food was not as good as many other places in the area. read more

I have lived in Weymouth for about 45 years and have been going to this restaurant on and off, usually on the weekends. The food was much better under the previous ownership(Paul). Nowadays, it depends on what you order. The french toast here is the best. I don't think I've had better french toast. I order it extra thick. The pancakes are not that good. I would definitely order all the meats well done here, including the eggs, regardless of how they are cooked. The omelettes aren't good here except for the Hot Chili Omelette. I would stick to the simple breakfast items, like scrambled eggs, hash browns, home fries, English Muffins, toast, and the breakfast meats(Bacon, Sausage, and Ham). The customer service, again, was better under the previous ownership. Nowadays, you have to beg to get a refill on the coffee, which is a bottomless cup. The coffee is also hit or miss; some days it tastes fresh and is great; other days not so good. The best coffee and service seems to be on the weekends. read more
