Portions are HUGE here. I ordered the pesto pasta and that seriously fed me two times. The restaurants was cute and luckily right next door to our hotel. It was a nice atmosphere to have dinner. We came in with a party of 6 and seems like there was only one table by the door to accommodate all of us. The only thing that sucked was that since we were by the door, we were all hella cold.The bread that they served us was so dry that you would need to drink a whole cup of water to finally swallow it. I absolutely love The Grill! I've been here twice already and plan on coming back for as long as I'm driving through. Top picks: 1. Blackened Chicken Sandwich (If you decide to have fries as your side, substitute regular fries for cajun fries). The chicken breast was well seasoned and extremely tender. Served on lightly toasted bun with grilled anaheim peppers and cheese with tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and pickles on the side. 2. Pulled Pork Sandwich. The shredded pork was doused in a sweet tangy BBQ sauce and served with cole slaw. The restaurant is clean and the servers are attentive. Overall, you really can't find a better restaurant that is open past 7pm serving decent food in the area. read more

Tried a new place for lunch. First impression was a clean nice little family restaurant. Homemade cookies and pies greet you. I had the avocado Burger. The patty was handmade and cooked perfect to my order. The bun was fresh and tasty, all the burger fixings were fresh and crisp. Fries were served without salt so you could add what you like. Very positive reviews for this place. Compared to many of the other restaurants in Lone Pine, I do think it's a better option. We didn't have the most positive experience, unfortunately. Straight off of Whitney we went to The Grill. Waited around 15 minutes for a table. Once sat, waited another 20 minutes before our order was taken. The staff was well aware of the delays. They were definitely busy. I'd like to think in such a small town as Lone Pine, the visitor's bureau keeps the local businesses apprised of when the town will have a big influx of people. There was some kind of ultra marathon event and as usual through the summer months, lots of Whitney hikers. There were only three waiters. It was an hour by the time we ate. After you hike for 16+ hours, the last thing you want to do is wait to eat. In retrospect, we should have opted for a less crowded option. Now for the only relevant part of the review ... The food was fine. This is not a four or five star restaurant in my opinion in any way shape or form. But it's a decent option for Lone Pine. It's a nice break away from the usual Lone Pine restaurant with John Wayne pics, etc. I ordered the BBQ chicken which was nicely roasted. BBQ sauce was literally squirted right on top to finish it off. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich and he thought it was decent. Son had a cheeseburger, fine, fries he wouldn't even eat (soggy). I don't take 5 star ratings lightly, but when you're passing through a little town on a long roadtrip and you stop for lunch, you don't expect much. Yet the food here took me by complete surprise. Ok . First let me start by saying after hiking the kearsauge pass overnight all I really needed was a good cold beer, and a good burger . I got the beer . Problem one , no soap on the bathroom. Even after asking for it to be refilled I waited and they could not find the key . She was nice enough to to give me some "wipes" but they had no sanitizer in it . Ordered the jalapeño burger , the sauce offered on it was basically nonexistent so I asked for extra on the side , without it the burger would have been very dry . With it the burger was barley ok . Thought that with a 15 minute wait it would be better. Overall wished I would have skipped it : won't be going back . Oh and an hour later when I went o leave the soap dispenser was still empty . read more

We have visited THE GRILL eight times in the last two years. My favorite is the home made chilli followed up by home made pie ala mode! We will be eating at THE GRILL this coming Friday night and Saturday morning. We agree with all of comments on the first page of this review with the exception of the two that are exceptionally mean spirited. First of all, we have NEVER seen any unsanitary conditions in or around the GRILL period during our eight visits! Second of all, we have NEVER seen any discrimination in any form by any one, patron or staff at THE GRILL period during our eight visits! I am looking forward to my chilli and pie ala mode Friday night and will decide which delicious breakfast to have on Saturday morning. Bobby and all the staff are exceptional! Fantastic service, delicious and freshly made food. It's a must if going through Lone Pine.

It took the waiter 18 minutes to come to the table to take our drink order, another 10 to take our food order. After 45 minutes of waiting still have not received food. Ask the hostess how much longer she stated could be as long as another 15 minutes. I think it is Absurd to wait over an hour for two hamburgers and fries. Absolutely would not come back here. No one has come to the table to update on the order after another 15 minutes. Service is about as good as the wait time. read more

Simple place serving sandwiches and burgers mainly. My grilled cheese was on a tasty sourdough, not too greasy. Cole slaw was a smudge bland, with just the right amount of mayonnaise. You can substitute chicken for any burger which hubby did with the avocado. He said the chicken was a little rubbery but tasted okay.. They were very generous with the avocado. We stopped here for a bite to eat coming back from mammoth. Clean comfortable and fast service. Every booth and table was full so that's always a good sign. Bathroom was clean too. Great place to stop for a bite when you're on the 395. Very clean restaurant and the customer service was very friendly to accommodate our large party of 33! Most of them kids! So yea you can imagine we straight mobbed that restaurant hahaha Anyhow, the food was good and there's even an option to eat outside on the patio too. We ordered typical american food like burgers and sandwiches from here which gave you a wide variety of sides to choose from. We were glad that we stopped here for lunch. Recently stopped in before heading to our final destination in Mammoth. I had the chili burger, i enjoyed the burger but would of liked some toppings such as a tomatoes or onions. We were pretty disappointed, especially after all the positive reviews. Food - eh. We got hot sandwiches, so thought they couldn't miss. Service was slow, although the people were friendly. Only nice part was sitting on the patio outside with the mountains as a view. And hope you don't have to go to the bathroom while you're there. What an unexpected surprise. On the outside, this place looks like a small town cafe. On the inside, it's nicer but pretty simple. However, our waiter Bobby (owner?) was personable and friendly. The food was fabulous. I had the rosemary pork chops. I love rosemary and these were wonderful: tender, flavorful, and generous. The sauteed green beans with onions and tomatoes were so good I could have just ordered them. My husband had the ribeye but felt the cut was a little thin. The meat was delicious, however. We were across the street at the car wash, after a couple if hours of hiking on the Mt Whitney Trail and saw on Yelp that The Grill had been highly rated by a couple of people since it opened seven weeks ago. We were looking for something light, so the BBQ Chicken salad and the Cobb Salad hit the spot. When we walked in around 8pm, the restaurant full, which was a good sign. We were acknowledged and seated right away by the friendly staff. It wasn't long before we we placed our orders and were eating. Our waiter chatted with us about our travels, the restaurant and a little about the town. The salads were very good. We would definitely go back. Are you hungry and driving to/from Mammoth? The Grill is a must stop :) We ordered the bbq 1/2 chicken which was made to juicy perfection on the inside and crunchy yummy goodness on the outside. Green beans were sautéed in butter and rosemary, which was a surprisingly good party on my tastebuds. The Pinot noir wine, at $7/glass, also hit the spot. What really put this place over the top was the service from Wendy and Bobby, who pretty much made you feel like you need to move to a small town and live at their restaurant. Special recommendation: Order DESSERT! Bobby will present it to you with a special serenade.. And geezus this guy has got some pipes! Such a fun time. read more
