My husband and I stopped here after dropping off our kids at camp up the river with the intention of watching the world cup final. We were relieved to be able to watch the game...we had worried that only baseball would be shown on the local TVs. We shared a very hearty plate of nachos and enjoyed a couple of beers (my husband liked the 24 oz. option). The waitstaff, especially the bartender, were friendly and helpful. The prices were affordable, and the location was easy to access on our roadtrip home. I will keep this spot in mind for future trips through the area. read more

Not sure how to write this review because the food was actually really good - if we could get it. It took at least 15 minutes to have anyone check on us once we were seated. By the time our drink orders were taken, we were ready to place our entire meal orders, so I thought maybe since our server found us, we would be good from here on out. The wings and the kids' meals came out in a reasonable amount of time (the kids liked their food, the wings were good and good sized), but then we continued to wait...and wait...and wait for our food. This would have been one thing if the server came over to check on us at all, but we were completely ignored. Finally I had to flag someone else down and ask them to tell our server to switch our food to to-go orders. I wish we had just cancelled them because they still took 20 more minutes. Once home, my husband enjoyed his cold burger - he commented that it was probably good hot. I ate a few bites of mine and went to bed; it seems like it would have been good fresh, but re-heated the next day it lost some of it's appeal. We talked about maybe trying again and specifically requesting their best server, but the whole experience was so cruddy that we may just never bother. read more

This is the best "cheers bar" in town.. The food is good but not great. However I love the atmosphere and lots of room at the U shaped bar. Everyone is friendly and curtious. I would recommend this restaurant for basic American cooking. Thursday night is prime rib night....go for it. read more

Great sports bar atmosphere. Poor draft beer selection that never changes other than the seasonal Sam Adams :( Prices recently shot up for both food and drinks which makes me not go there often anymore. Food is good though! Well...while we waited for someone to come to greet us for fifteen minutes as the sign said to be seated.. We finally had to flag down a waitress.. To tell us to sit wherever.. We were hungry and just attribute it to poor staffing..but as we waited being of a diverse party and seeing them greet and seat all the white customers coming after. Still didn't think too much..we were served with dirty plates. Without any apology .and an hour wait for burgers.. I am disgusted.. It was obvious that this is a racist establishment.. This place is spectacular! From the wonderful staff, to the incredible food. My daughter loves this place and goes with her friends and often as she can. For the love of god, please get new wait staff. The service sucks beyond belief. This was once our favorite spot to eat but have taken it out of our restaurant rotation for quite some time solely because of how bad the service is. The last time we ate here we actually got up and walked out after 20 minutes of not having anyone come to our table. Then as we walked out a waitress stopped us and asked what the problem was. When we explained she said "it's not my fault, it's the grills, they should hire more staff." And before anyone says I'm being to picky, my wife is a waitress at a local diner. Recently had lunch there - we are usually 6-8 people. Cons: Was forced to be seated downstairs as we were told the waitress has a sprained ankle and could not go up and down the stairs. (Perhaps, she should have taken the day off.) We, then, noted that other people were seated upstairs. Not happy! Room was VERY cold. We were informed that it was necessary to run the AC on high cool so that it would be comfortable for the evening diners! Hey, aren't lunch diners important, too? This place deserves all the credit for going the extra mile and putting in the effort. They have a big menu filled with creative options and logos of area sports teams. The place itself is decorated like a Ground Round, walls filled with sports memorabilia. Interesting side note, the Grill sports the only clean bathroom (meaning you wont vomit upon entering it ) in ALL of Matamoras, that alone makes it worth the stop. Our drinks came fast from our very sweet and thoroughly professional waitress. Next up, the wings. And with the option of being able to mix n match flavors, you're never left wondering what a peppercorn parmesan wing tastes like. We had the medium and they were great. Next up dinner. We had the turkey burger and tacos. Dinner itself was underwhelming and not what made this place fun. It was the waitstaff and the wings and the clean head. I've been going to the Grill for a long time never had an issue until last week. My friends and I decided to go grab a bite to eat on Saturday 2/9/20. Kayla was our waitress she was nice in the beginning, we stated off by ordering our drinks she came back and asked us if we were ready we all said yes. We ordered wings as an appetizer and salad as a main course. While we waited for our appetizer we ordered another drink 20 minutes went by before we had to remind our waitress to grab our drinks (which she forgot). Then we waited a good hour before our main course came out which mind you was a salad!!! We asked Kayla if or when our food would be ready and she said your eating your appetizers and salads take time. I damn near fell off my chair when she said that. Normally we aren't even half way done with the first bit and the main course is coming out. So needless to say Kayla your customer service sucked and if you don't like your job change professions!. read more

Really can't go wrong here if you're looking for a place to grab a quick burger, cold beer, and other American-style fare. Best damn hamburger in town. Wait staff is adequate. Tuesday nights are kind of crazy crowded. Parking is hit or miss. The lot is really too small. Constantly see people illegally parked on the shoulder of a US Highway while inside dining, impeding view of other motorists attempting to turn left from Maple Avenue. Additional parking is available round the corner, but fat-asses are too lazy to walk the extra steps. read more

This is five stars because it was exactly what we were looking for on Sunday. A great bar and grill to watch football, drink and snack. No matter where you sit you can view different TVs plus a huge projector. Tammy was our server upstairs and she really met our needs. The wings and coconut shrimp were delicious. I asked light on the sauce. The burgers were huge and my husband asked for medium and that is how it arrived. We left upstairs and went to the bar for some coffee and cocktails and Joanie was the bartender. It took her a few minutes for her to warm up to us but once she did we were like family. I wish that was my local bar & grill but Lodi is a little far away. Maybe we will take more road trips now that we found this great spot read more

I have been coming here for a long time, I love the wings and loaded cheese fries. I was visiting the area and we went in for lunch, I had wings and loaded cheese fries. I was so disappointed the wings were dry and overlooked and the fries were also overcooked. The service was not like it used to be, they had one server and they were very busy. I visited this "restaurant" with my fiancé his sister, her husband and their one year old child. I will not be exaggerating my dissatisfaction with this family eatery and bar -simply would like to share just how disgusted I am with middle class America. We were kindly seated in a large booth area, where we patiently waited for over 10 minutes to be visited by our kind waitress to take our drink order. She promptly returned with our beverages and took our dinner order. Our dinners' were delivered by food runners (we ordered the stir fry, appetizer sampler, steak w/ baked potato, chicken ceaser salad and a children's menu spaghetti with meatballs). While all our food was edible, our one year old boy was eating his noodles with his hands, as most of you reading this know a one year old can be hard to entertain at a restaurant. Much to our dismay, (AND THANK GOD WE WATCH HIM EAT), he picks up a piece of his CERAMIC PLATE. Obviously we immediately requested to speak to the manager. First, we were visited by our waitress (SEVERAL minutes after we requested to speak to the manager), then the manager came to our table. We clearly had a ceramic plate with a one inch chunk missing out of It with no silver ware present and we were questioned by the manager as to if the child had hit the plate with something causing the damage. (He, as well as we were quite dumbfounded as to how we had been served a plate of food with a piece of the ceramic actually in the food, but to assume that a 1 year old child had actually broken the plate is quite ridiculous and asinine. In addition to this there was an overwhelming smell of smoke throughout the restaurant, we asked the waitress whether or not smoking was allowed in this particular establishment, and her response was simply that the door opens and closes so often that the draft causes the stench. Overall, words cannot express how disgusted I was with the lack of service, accusatory manor of the managerial staff, and overall atmosphere of The Grill. read more

Had a great time last night at The Grill. We were staying at the Hampton Inn while traveling from Virginia to the Catskills. Music was fantastic - singer/guitarist. Found out he's only playing there once a month, should be a lot more. Bartender was fun and extremely knowledgeable about mixed drinks which surprised us. Would definitely go back. read more

Great local restaurant. Went there last night for dinner with a friend. We started with the Steamers marinated in a garlic butter sauce.....they were great, & served with garlic bread for dipping. I love the wings here! The blue cheese they have is chunky and delicious. They have a wide variety of flavor and in my opinion they are better than Buffalo Wild Wings. The waitresses are very pleasant, quick, and attentive. This place has horrible service!!! We waited for soft drinks to come, waited even longer for the orders to be taken, we were only checked on once while we were waiting for our food. After waiting for an hour for our food I asked for our waitress in turn I got an attitude and was told it wasn't her fault. Our waitress never came instead the same blonde waitress with the attitude came back and told us 2 mins we waited 5 mins and still nothing. My party of 7 ended up getting up and walking out. As the last 2 people walked out the door they offered to box up our food. REALLY! Box it up how about bring it out in time and 2 we were on motorcycles where were we going to stick it! We arrived at 7pm on a Sunday. There was no wait and we were seated right away. We ordered the nacho supreme as an appetizer. I asked if they can put the cheese on only half the nachos because I am lactose intolerant, they said they could give us two half orders, one with cheese and one without and it would be the same price. I didn't see half orders on the menu, but when the nachos came out there was easily enough for us to have shared a half order. The nachos were delicious. I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables which also came with a salad. The chicken fried steak and gravy was very good tasted just like you want it to and the mashed potatoes were amazing. My salad was only iceberg lettuce, but it was fresh and crisp. The service was good , no issues for us and they also have %10 military discount. The restaurant overall is starting to look dated and they also have a small seating area outside now that the weather is nice. I would eat here again when I am in the area, they have a huge menu. I also recommend going across the street to the polar ice cream for dessert. read more
