[[HIGHLIGHT]]The surrounding area was questionable but Equilibrium was somewhat of a diamond in the rough.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The parking lot is small but luckily it wasn't crowded on a Sunday afternoon.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was excellent. They have a wood fired grill menu only on the weekends. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, the smoked wings with Thai chili sauce, the pulled pork sandwich, the hangar steak, and the burger. All were great as were the fries. The service was above and beyond. Also, they had some great specials on cams to go that we took advantage of. 10% off for dining at the brewery, a free branded glass with every 3 4-packs, and a free bottled stout with the purchase of a case. read more

Two months ago, I posted some pics from Middletown NY on IG and multiple people, including one of the more knowledgeable people I know about NE Craft Breweries asked "did you go to Equilibrium?" It was around that moment, I realized I should have gone to Equilibrium. Two months later, I was again traveling through Middletown and I planned my day around visiting. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space was cool. Lots of wood. Cool large Einstein art as you approach the building. Lots of inside seating with natural light. Outside seating and smokers for BBQ.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered two 4 ounce pours as a way of informing my can purchases. Photon, a Pale Ale. And MC Squared, a Double IPA. Both were very good. Reminded me of the ales at some other top breweries. I decided to buy a 4 of MC Squared and I asked the person working if there was anything special that they had in cans. She recommended Mmmosa, which is a pale ale with orange flavor. I tried it and it also was very good. I didn't eat, but I note that Equilibrium really seems focused on BBQ. I'll say it, I'm not a beer person but I love going to breweries with friends and seeing all they have to offer! My friends wanted to check out the new Equilibrium brewery and [[HIGHLIGHT]]it's a beautiful venue. It's open and airy. I thought that I had reviewed EQ a few years back when I went so this will be an average score of both visits. First visit was a 4 and this was a more like a 2. Anyone that remembers the old brewery with the chairs and the line shares can see how far these guys have come. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Still churning out some delicious and unique brews but now in a beautifully designed space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The setup is typical of the modern brewery where you order everything from the bar, including food. It wasn't always easy figuring out where to stand and order but it seems like the back corner where the staff enter and exit is the proper spot. You also bus your own table like you would at a cafeteria or fast casual spot. Unfortunately, my most recent visit really left something to be desired in terms of the food. The pretzel bite appetizer was decent and the ipa mustard had a nice zip to it but the beer cheese was lackluster at best. The wings and brisket felt like they were smoked 3 days prior and then reheated prior to serving. The meats were desiccated and lost some of their smoke but the sauces were thankfully flavorful. I didn't find the food quite as underwhelming last time I visited despite having the same items, so perhaps it was just an off day. The beer, as expected, was solid throughout a range of styles. Started off with some sours, then some DIPAs and finally some porters. $7 for 4oz pours of sours and $7 for 8oz pours of DIPAs/porters so they are on the higher end of modern beer pricing; up there with trillium and other high rent spots and pricier than Hudson valley brewing on the other side of the river. Equilibrium is definitely a fine choice if you find yourself thirsty cruising down 84 or in the Middletown area. It seems like it might be prudent to go on a weekend when the smoker is actively running. read more

When I knew I was coming to this area for a trip this was one of my top spots I wanted to go check out! I am a beer person and love trying out new breweries!. Any excuse to visit Equilibrium and I'm there. The ride is an hour just to visit. The BBQ is the best I've had as far as I can remember. In particular their BEEF RIB is out of this world. Same goes for their tomahawk ribeye when it's available! Incredible. The value is off the charts. I love their IPAs and even their stout is crack and I don't usually order anything besides IPA. Really great that they have food during the week, but if you're fortunate enough to be there during the weekend BBQ, I don't think you can go wrong with anything they offer. Can't wait to go back. Traveled there from Long Island at least 3 times now. My husband likes the beer. It's too heavy and thick for me although I am a huge fan of IPAs. The beer is always served warm. The food is eh. You have to order at the bar and then they bring you your food but never come back. So if you want another drink you have to go to the bar. If you want water you serve yourself at a water station. I had written a review of equilibrium brewery in the past and it was in high praise. It has been some time since I've been back. Today we attempted to return and boy has a lot changed in a short time. Walking in it wasn't anymore busy customer wise than it was any other time I've been there. But the staff seemed to have other priorities than customer service. The blonde bartender apologies for not knowing her name was outside taking pictures in the snow while there were 40 customers inside. The male bartender behind the bar whispered to another staff member "who's cleaning those tables, I'm not". We simply asked if someone was going to clear the empty tables of garbage so we could snag a table. We waited about 15 minutes and the bartender just simply stared at us and tended to like two customers while the dining area had each table covered in garbage. By the end of the waiting the female bartender must've finished with her photo op and came back in (wasn't much help) so as we stood there waiting for someone to clean off the 6-7 tables covered in food and garbage. No one came so we left. That's pretty horrible for customer service considering the place is pretty much self service you get up and get your own drinks and food. U literally just need someone to serve the drink cook the food and clean. The food used to be very good but since it's been some time and the fact that the service changed so drastically I question if the food is still good. Really hope this place hasn't changed and it was just one bad experience with the staff that was present today. read more

Now this is a unique space! There is a circle bar in the center with some indoor seating on the outer edges and outside seating outside of that. There is a lot of glass widows that allow all the natural lighting to come in. If you look up, you can see a lot of bottles and cans of other breweries. It was cool to see what I recognized. Service was quick. The bartenders came around often to see if you liked the beer or needed food. My favorite of the day was the farmhouse ale Austin Plum. The IPAs were okay. I love that they had food on site, and BBQ at that! I ordered a brisket sandwich that came with rosemary fries. What a great pairing. It was satisfying and fulfilling. Decided to try a new spot and found this place. Upon arriving, they do have a parking lot which is a plus. Once we entered, we were told we could have a seat at the tables, but we had to order at the bar. (It was a Wednesday early afternoon). We ordered with the bartender, and she brought our food to the table when it was ready. We ordered the Mac and cheese and the crispy chicken sandwich. The Mac and cheese was very good, it seemed to have a layer of breadcrumb on top which made it very crunchy. It was also cooked nicely. The only thing that was missing is that it could have had a bit more cheese. The crispy chicken sandwich was delicious. It came with chipotle aioli, but there was definitely not enough chipotle aioli, so we did have to ask for more, which the bartender had no issue getting for us. The fries were delicious! They had really good seasoning. For drinks we got the Hudson North peach cider which was delicious, and the String Theory Pomegranate & Plum beer, which was also very tasty. We were also able to purchase a 4 pack of the string theory beer, and you get a 10% discount when you show your dine-in receipt! I came on a weekday around lunch time. The tap list will not disappoint. There are a lot of options with handy descriptions and a great variety of styles. It was one of the most sophisticated tap lists I've seen. You can use an app to order, which was nice but at times felt a little impersonal. Nonetheless, our waiter got us beer and food very quickly after submitting through the app. I thought the brisket and chicken salad were a little drier than I was hoping, but the french fries were really delicious. Get the beer cheese (though it comes with a ton more fries!). There's a pretty seamless way to get your cans to go. Snap a pic of the menu so you can ponder. Our last visit to EQ was for Father's Day 3 years ago, though we've been fans for years, since the original location opened and my husband has picked up beer many times since. Sadly yesterday's visit for Father's Day fell short of our expectations for a few reasons, mostly due to them being understaffed and having 3 amazing bartenders serving the entire bar, restaurant, and outdoor area. I made a reservation online for 3 people at 12:30 and we arrived and were seated by one of the bartenders, who gave us menus and told us to order at the bar. That seemed odd, since 3 of us were getting food, but it quickly became clear that there was no traditional waitstaff (last time we came for Father's Day, we ordered directly from the table using QR codes, which was totally fine so we could order more as we wanted and then check out online). We had to remember orders for 3 people and wait at the bar to order, which took time, and by 12:45, they were out of the advertised bone-in beef rib, which my husband wanted. Not sure how they sold out of a special so quickly. We got our drinks and settled down then proceeded to wait 45 minutes (yes, 45) for 2 brisket sandwiches, a 1/2 lb of brisket, pretzels, and skillet mac n cheese. The fries that came with the sandwiches were not even lukewarm, so I assume they had been sitting until one of the bartenders could grab them to bring to our table. Someone else brought the skillet of mac n cheese shortly after and warned us that it was "hot" to which I replied "at least something is hot" because our meals weren't (she laughed, no offer of further assistance). Getting a 2nd round of drinks took about 10 minutes as well and at that point, we wanted to settle up and leave after. I will say that the food was very good and the brisket was flavorful but waiting 45 minutes for cold food negated it. Waiting to pay to get out also took another good 10 minutes or so. Then my husband wanted to stop at the retail shop to get a few bottles on the way out. Had to wait there as well for one of the bartenders to come over to assist. I asked him if it's normally this short handed and he sighed and said they didn't realize it would be so busy on Father's Day. The bartenders did a great job but 3 people cannot manage to serve an entire bar and restaurant. Other patrons looked annoyed as well as people were piled around the bar waiting to order and when we left around 2:30, a table who arrived shortly after us still had not gotten their food. Though the food was good, it was not worth the wait time to stand at the bar and have to wait and order food and drinks. We could have had a much better experience elsewhere. I don't know who thought that was an adequate amount of staff to have at a brewery, especially on Father's Day, but we will not be back and will stick to beer pickup or shipping in the future. read more

We haven't been here for a while and apparently they have had an upgrade of the food menu and they were the only place we could find open on July 4. We ordered the bonfire burger, brisket sandwich, coleslaw and the chips and guacamole. We also had a variety of their drinks and beer. The sevens izzup, bourbon peach lemonade, citra paradox , pbj fall from grace, circinae and the double barrel fall from grace. Let's talk food first. The burger was well prepared and the bun was great!! The brisket was seasoned and no fat! Which is amazing considering its brisket. The coleslaw was tasty and the guacamole and chips was sooooo goood we actually ordered another one!!! The double barrel was sooooo good that it was the highlight of our evening. The other beers were very good and the seven Izzup is the perfect summer beer!!! We placed our orders at the bar as it was a "holiday " and there were no servers on the floor. We still got great service and the restaurant was very clean and calm. A quiet and rainy afternoon, we stopped by as we were out and about in Middletown. In the area and there's a local brewery... It's my duty to stop by and sample. We were hungry as well. Got a table, and went up to the bar to order drinks and lunch. The wait staff was nice and placed our orders. There was a wide selection of beers to try. I ordered temporal loops and then string theory pink guava/strawberry. Both were light and refreshing. I didn't think I'd enjoy a tangy sour beer, but they both went well with the chicken sandwich. My sister got the Fractal Strata. Stole a sip, and it's also nice. My son gobbled up his bbq pouitne fries and Boylan ginger ale. The place is clean, and they have outdoor yard games as well. I just moved to Middletown in June and this is the one spot I've returned to several times now. All their beers are delicious and their food is surprisingly stellar. And to top it, their dining space is very modern rustic with a beautiful outdoor patio and a few games giving it a Backyard barbecue type of feel. A few of their beers they use marshmallow to make which sounds insane but I actually really like them and not all of them are sweet. They have a variety of beers that range from sweeter to dry and the beers are always in rotation so each time I've gone back, there was always something new for me to try! They even have guest breweries come by every so often. Mondays and Wednesdays are my favorite days to stop by because on Mondays, drinks and sides are half off and on Wednesdays, drinks are half off if you show your college ID. But the weekends are a great time to come by because it's always a vibe. I got their version of eggs benny and it was good but nothing great. The meat here isn't very flavorful. I also paid for a side of beer cheese and it wasn't great. This brewery is by far one of my all time favorite breweries! Absolute IPA heaven!!!! There is plenty of seating inside and unlike most of breweries these guys have delicious BBQ meats and other food choices. I have very happy and satisfied with the different food options here. Their beer on tap selection is very unique and very delicious, there's something for everyone. The bartenders also are very helpful and you can try any of the beers before you buy it. One thing that caught my eye was that you can choose what size you want your beer starting from 4oz, 8oz and 12oz. This way you can just get a small taste inside of having to buy a full glass in case you don't like it. Another big plus is that there's plenty of parking over here. read more

We had three beers from Equilibrium Brewing that we really enjoyed! The first beer we had up was the C Lime Pie which was a key lime tasting beer. I felt the flavor profile was not too sweet and had a nice creamy taste like you might get on an excellent version of the pie. Next up was the Tasman C which was a very tasty pale ale Steve and I both really enjoyed. The third was the MC2 which was a great Double IPA. It had good hoppiness to it but was never overwhelming. The beer was really good. They have a good selection of IPAs and a couple of stouts. The brisket was surprising good... like "southern slow smoked" type good. The corn bread had a honey glaze on it which was delightful. And they had French fries and Mac and cheese for the kids. The actual brewery/eating area was clean and modern with both in door and outdoor seating. I came with my family (wife and two boys under 10) on a Friday evening. It was a good time and everyone enjoyed. You can also purchase beer to take home in the retail section of the brewery. A four pack of pints to take home will set you back about $20.
