To set the scene...I've had my tile for 14 years. In that time, I had never Had it re-sealed. Clearly, in that time, it didn't retain its color, and, in an attempt to restore its original color, I did have it professionally steam cleaned several years ago by a different company. It pretty much looked the same as before they started, and they claimed that some of the grout just couldn't be cleaned to the original color (kitchen, high traffic area) but that they could paint the grout in my downstairs for $1200. I told them thanks, but no thanks. I recently called Grout Doctor to see if there was anything they could do to refresh my grout because I really was sick of having almost black grout in my kitchen. I quickly got a call back, and within a day or two, someone was at the house to give me an estimate. They quoted me $600 to clean, paint and reseal my grout on the entire downstairs floors as well as the floors and tile counters in my upstairs hall & master baths, PLUS they'd re-caulk around my sinks and toilets in all three bathrooms. I'm not sure how many square feet of tile there is, but probably about 1100 sf of tile. L I was a little nervous because I'd seen painted grout before and I didn't like the look. Something had to give though, and since it was half of what the last person quoted and they were doing much more, I figured I'd give it a shot. They came, blazed through the job and left my tile looking brand new. I honestly can't even believe how great it looks. I keep forgetting to leave Martin a 5 star review! Several months ago his crew repaired and repainted the grout in our bathrooms and laundry room when we were getting ready to put our house on the market. I couldn't believe it when I saw the results. The floors literally looked brand new!!! There were several places where the tile was cracked and you couldn't even find the cracks anymore. I believe the total for 2 1/2 baths and the laundry was $1700. This included the icky shower/tub grout, which again looked like a new shower and tub. Unreal. We have used Grout Doctor many times over the past years and they have been awesome. It saddens me to write this review. He did a job for me on my daughters place in Benicia in July 2021 and the second part of the job was at my son's in the same complex the following week. We had to reschedule my son's portion so I told him I would call him. I have called 5 times, tried their website and Yelp requesting their service and absolutely no response. I'm not sure if the Owner is on vacation or what but I am really disappointed and unless I receive a call right away not only will I never use them again (we live in Danville) I will also share this negative review on Next Door and tell our friends of which I have referred them many times. Dina returned my call promptly and scheduled Elvin to come out several days later. Elvin explained the different services they offer and the 'pros' and 'cons'. I opted for EnduroShield®, a permanent protective coating, on the kitchen floor. Below are 'before' and 'after' pictures of my kitchen floor which actually looks like a brand new floor. Elvin did a great job cleaning and sealing the floors and grout in the rest of the house but, next year, I am going to have Elvin apply EnduroShield to all the floors in my home because the protective coating really keeps the grout clean and will last for about 15 years. Which leads me to comment on Elvin's experience and expertise. He really 'knows' the business, is conscientiousness, a hard worker, and a person of integrity. Within a week of the service, the grout (which isn't grout but some plastic product) peeled off in one 3" part of the shower. In 3 months, the grout was peeling in another place. He explained all of the problems he found and told us what he could and could not do. After the job was done it look better then it did in years. He quoted us a great price to clean the grout for our two showers, and we then called him to set up an appointment. (took a few tries; he's hard to get ahold of). Unfortunately, he no-showed on us. After reading reviews and thinking he was the same Grout Doctor (it is a franchise)that came out before and that was great before, I hired Martin(he was different guy). He was very friendly and personable. He did my grout in the kitchen (I have white tiles with white grout-which I hate but until I can put in quartz/granite I will have to upkeep this headache of a counter). Last time the other Grout Doctor did a great job(I wish I could find him) and it lasted a long time. This time it lasted only two weeks and the grout coloring came off and started looking exactly like it was before I had him come out. In all fairness,Martin was doing the caulking of all the sinks and tubs and his young assistant was doing the kitchen and I think he skimped on a few steps or something(I was wondering why he finished faster than last time). It seemed like he just maybe did a basic clean and painted over it with a toothbrush which may explain why it dissipated so fast two weeks later(that is what I do in between to maintain so this is what happens when I do it) and maybe Martin wasn't aware of this. I should have called back and complained but it was the holidays and I was busy so two months went by and I just said forget it. My caulking upstairs in my tub is coming off already too so that did not last long as well but longer than my tile grout at least! He was ontime. But unfortunately I was disappointed with the workmanship which should have lasted more than two weeks. read more
