Such a disappointing experience. The food was good and our server was pleasant which is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1 but the rest of the staff and the lack of customer accommodation was horrendous. Our group of 5 had made reservations quite a while in advance for The Grove as we were traveling to Savannah from across the country and heard such great things about this place. We were ecstatic when we made our reservation and were told we could have rooftop seating and be accommodated as well if it began to rain. When we got there after weeks and weeks of anticipation we were given a rooftop table for our party, however, half of the table was in the shade and half was in the beaming hot sun . The seating were black couch cushions and the sun made it impossible to 1. sit on those cushions, and 2. sit in that spot since it was so hot. We managed to squeeze 3 of us into the shady chair but 2 of us would still need to battle the sun. We then noticed 2 empty tables of the same kind behind us both of which sat the same amount of people as our group, and asked if we could be moved to one of those. We were told no because those tables were reserved for a 12pm reservation (we were there 11:30 so we initially took that as a fair reason). We were told there was absolutely nothing that could be done, there was no other table available for us (rooftop or not we didn't care at that point) and our table was what we were stuck with. We then requested having 2 regular chairs brought to us to sit on because the couch seating in the sun was so unbearable. We were brought the chairs and we scooted those into the shade. Given how low the table was for the couch seating, those of us in the chairs ate our meal literally with our plates in our laps....not something I ever expected to do in ANY restaurant EVER but it was better than sitting in the sun on the black scalding hot cushions. The entire time we were there we asked twice more about the 2 empty tables that could fit us and we were still told no due to the 12pm reservation. Well 1215 rolls around and they are still empty. At about 1220 2 people sat at one of the tables (2 people could've still been in the shade comfortable in our sunny table). We got the check and left at about 1240 and the other table was STILL empty. This was supposed to be a highlight of our trip and instead started it all off on such a sour note. The absolute lack of willingness to accommodate our table, or even shift us to a shaded table of the same exact type was a slap in the face especially since we watched that table remain empty for the rest of our meal. I almost wonder what would have happened if it did rain since The Grove clearly couldn't even accommodate us with their very empty tables. I am appalled at how this experience was, and quite honestly I would say save your money and find a local iHop or hotel breakfast because they would probably accommodate you better. I understand that The Grove cant control the Sun, but they can control where they sit their guests and their guests overall experience. If the reservation didn't have a cancellation fee, we would've left. read more

A friend and I were visiting Savannah and stopped by The Grove after searching for a rooftop bar. We were greeted by the front hostess and we asked if we can sit on the rooftop - she said it was first come/first serve and directed us to the upstairs hostess. There was no hostess. We went to the bar and asked the bartender if we can take a seat at an open table that was not yet cleaned. He said of course, explained that it was not cleaned because of a shift change and cleaned it for us. He mentioned the water is available at the bar and headed back behind the bar. I went and got us water and as I was filling up our water, I overhear the bartender discussing seating us with the waiter. Short of it is that the waiter was not happy we were seated and the bartender asked what he was supposed to do? Not seat us? The waiter said he was not serving us. Bartender says can you at least bring them water and then realizes I'm already there getting water. The bartender tells me to just get bar service if that's okay (I would have no issue with that). Seems there was a shift change and this waiter believed that seating should stop during his shift change. To make it worse, my friend went up to the bar shortly after to order and overheard the same waiter complaining to another waiter about us being seated and how he is not serving us. Few things here - don't they know how to rollover tables? We got there an hour before his shift ended - there was plenty of time to serve us. Why are waiters allowed to decide not to serve? Is there no front of house? Anyway - the bartender was a sweetheart. The food was tasty. The hostess girls were kind. But, the way the business is run and the unprofessionalism of some of the (one of the) waitstaff is horrible. The situation was awkward and definitely made us less than comfortable. read more

Although a beautiful place it was not designed very well - too many hard surfaces make for very loud dining. The staff continuing to turn up the music so it could be heard over the patrons didn't help as conversations got louder as people tried to talk over the music that didn't fit the clientele. The waitress we had, through pleasant, was pretty much unsuited for the job. She offered water but nothing else. Every time we tried to ask she didn't hear or didn't listen and walked away. So we had water. Dinner was mediocre at best for all of us. I had the Nashville hot chicken, brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes; chicken was very good, but I had a bowl full of burned (and unseasoned) brussel sprouts and my mashed potatoes were solid - cut them with a fork solid (and unseasoned). Not a rave from any one at the table. Needless to say, we won't be going back. read more

I feel like The Grove is a younger hangout geared more towards those who aspire to be hip and trendy. I appreciate their decor and design as well as their rooftop views. The bartender was nice enough but had an air of pretentiousness that I just couldn't jive with. I feel like they are trying to hard to be something that they just aren't. The food was decent, the drinks were decent, the prices were somewhat reasonable. Would I go back? Yes, probably. Is it a Best of Savannah? Not even close. read more

The Grove in Savannah is a really unique and upscale place to definitely check out. I visited here over St. Patty's weekend and I must say I was very impressed with the venue and the hospitality shown here. I was very eager to check this place out once I saw it opened, however, since I no longer live in Savannah it was hard! I must say though this place was worth the wait. We decided not to venture to the top floors because it was an extra cost and I can return and visit for free, however, the rooftop looks amazing and I can't wait to try it out. They have great tasty, affordable drinks, the house chips are great the vibe was perfect for St. Patty's weekend. We ended up staying here for about 2.5 hours so if that doesn't tell you how great of a time we were having then you'll have to try it out for yourself! Definitely will be returning on my future trips back! read more

After being a frequent visitor of the Grove Savannah.. today was a very distasteful experience. Greeted by a rude hostess who's first question is 'do you have a reservation' ... first, who has a reservation for lunch? Second, they turned us away because we didn't have a reservation. Didn't even recommend their alternate bar seating just across the block. Both the hostess and her manager (who was standing next to her during this whole interaction, mind you..) didn't care to offer alternatives or suggest we come back to dine at a later time. Being frequent to the Grove, we walked to their alternate bar where we were kindly greeted by a bartender who invited us to sit and eat. This same hostess who was so rude continues to police all entrances of the restaurant and bar asking guests 'do you have a reservation' when the response is no, all these parties departed. Extremely disappointing that a local business would treat customers with such disrespect. Especially to people who are clearly from out of town and just looking for a nice spot to drink and dine on a beautiful Saturday in Savannah. What a shame. read more

They might have good food but we will never know. My family and I have tried to come here three times now and have been turned down all three times (pre and post Covid). Most recently we tried to come for my sisters birthday. Called the day before to make reservations and they said they weren't taking any more reservations for that day but if we showed up after 2 we could be seated as a walk-in. We arrived at 2pm and were (rudely) told that they were not taking any more names until the kitchen caught up- even though half the restaurant was empty. I understand there are staffing shortages because of Covid but it's still extremely frustrating and we will not be attempting to go back- seems pointless to even try. read more

Stopped in here for some lunch on our way to Charleston as it was recommended by locals. The spot itself is beautiful, modern, and has a great view. The food was decent, but nothing to rave about. Drinks were overpriced and again, nothing to rave about. The server was unimpressionable and seemed like she didn't want to be there. Food runner was extremely nice. This restaurant has great ambience and great potential. I came for brunch with my daughter. We ordered Strawberries with Cream and Blueberries with Cream. Both plates were served without the cream and were served cold. When we requested the cream that was part of the plate it took several minutes to provide and when it arrived it looked like it had been harvested from the last spoonful of cream in the bag. Not serving cream with a plate that features cream is barely excusable. What is inexcusable is to fail to act expeditiously to correct the situation. Very disappointed. As an aside getting a cup of coffee is not easy at this restaurant and it took three trips downstairs and 20 minutes to get me a cup of coffee with cream and sugar. Sadly, we will not be dining at this establishment again. read more

The food was delicious- the management and waitstaff were undesirable at best. We came with a group for a bachelorette dinner under 8pm reservations. Another table of patrons were seated in the same small party room behind us. Throughout the evening our group ordered 1 drink per person while the other table was ordering large group drinks and enjoying them at a much louder decibel than us. At 9:30 we were approached by the manager after asking to order champagne for the table as a gift to the bride- the manager explained her and her wait staff weren't comfortable serving us and it was an issue of table turn over- even though the group behind us wasn't asked to leave and continued their rambunctious evening. As a consolation the staff offered us free shots if we got up and moved upstairs- again doesn't make sense if you thought some of us were over served already. Please don't waste your time giving this business your time and attention. They are rude and don't care to make it make sense. read more

THE WORST MANAGEMENT EVER. I was here in June of 2020, I was 22 years old and served alcohol. I came here with 3 of my best friends today for my friend's 23rd birthday and ordered alcohol but the server took our IDs to confirm they were real. The manager came over 10 minutes later and told us that 2 of the IDs were fake. They told us that the "numbers" didn't match up on our SC drivers licenses and said they would not serve us. We walked to the restaurant next door, immediately was sat, they scanned our ID's, and we will be leaving a large tip for our server. The Grove has the worst management, customer service, and attitudes of any restaurant in Savannah. Their drinks and food are over priced, too. I love coming to Savannah to enjoy the different food and atmosphere. My best friend and her family decided to come to Savannah for Mother's Day. We were seated in the back of the restaurant and waited for 20 minutes for a waitress. After waiting 20 minutes I had to ask for a waitress to assist us. Another family came in behind us and was seated and greeted immediately after seating. We had a horrible experience from the hostess station to getting up an walking out of the restaurant. So many different things went wrong! We are out of town tourists and two of our friends had a paper copy of their ID and they denied them alcohol, even after they tried to show other forms of ID such as military, birth certificate, or voided ID... some of our party bought The Grand Mule and split it between 3 people but our waitress didn't tell us there was an up-charge on the alcohol! So we ended up paying double what we thought we were going to pay... pretty place, good food, but terrible management and staff. Not very good communication! Sat on some not well-kept couches on the rooftop with a coffee table in the center of our group in the hit sun. Waters were provided and that was the last we saw of our server for 20 min. I had friends in Savannah for the Thursday evening only so we decided to go to City Market. We found The Grove and sat upstairs at the rooftop bar. We loved the view! It was extremely busy and we were happy to find a table! Our waitress was super nice and patient as we took a few minutes to get our thoughts together on drinks. The food took a while and the waitress apologized and said she would check on it. She did and it arrived a few minutes later. The service and food were wonderful! I had this experince on Friday night around 10pm. The place was excellent to hang out, but I had an issue with bartender. I ordered a round of shots for my friends and paid with tip. The bartender lied about not getting a tip to one of my friend which caused an argument between us.  I have a right to tip or not, but I did tip and he lied about it. I asked for the bill from bartender to check/prove that I that I paid the tip but the bartender wouldn't give the signed bill back and walked away.  I lost my image and respect in front of everyone. He lied to my friends trying to get an extra tip from them. I checked the transaction when they showed up to make sure I tipped. I did - the bartender was just trying to get more tips from other people. Keep the customer copy of the bill. He tried to cheat the us, the customers, I don't think this is the right way to behave. read more

Truly can't believe this place has as many good reviews. The avocado toast is embarrassing. Buttered toast with a slice of tomato and an avocado not even mashed; just sliced. I asked for eggs over easy on top which came out completely over cooked. The chicken biscuits were equally as disappointing. A place with plain decor and even plainer food. read more

The Grove was one of the highlights of our trip! We visited several hotel bars with below par service and quality, but The Grove was great! We ordered chips and guacamole on the first floor at the bar. It was a solid snack. They have a signature drink, which features a glass of wine accompanied by a popsicle! They switch out the flavor combination frequently. Ours was a Riesling with a lemon blueberry popsicle. A strange concept, but it works, especially with the warm weather it was fun and refreshing! We were sad that the rooftop was closed for a private event, but they let us know it would be available in about 30 minutes. We headed up to the second floor to find another bar with a dance floor, good music and a full bar with good bartenders. Eventually the rooftop did open up and we checked it out as well. The deck is awesome with a view of downtown Savannah and lots of comfortable seating. There's also a bathroom on the rooftop level, so you don't have to walk downstairs #winning. read more

We stopped in for a drink and wings. We got to know Christian who knew the menu so well and kept us great company. He gave us tips for visiting Savannah and made our experience at the Grove delightful. The live music was amazing as well. We were from out of town and needed a place that could accommodate our party of 8. The location was convenient. We sat at the bar to wait for our entire party to arrive. 2 of my friends had the champagne pop cocktail - very unique and refreshing. My husband and I ordered whiskey sours and the bartender knew his stuff. He suggested Bullet Rye ( one of our favorites ) and he made them with frothy egg whites ( the way we love them ). Excellent !!! When we were seated our server was friendly, helpful and very efficient. Burgers were delish, tacos were very good, the goat cheese and sweet potato salad was unique and delicious, and chicken sliders and barbecue shrimp were very tasty. BUT when my husband ordered a second whiskey sour it was ho hum - no one asked whiskey preference and no frothy egg whites. It was disappointing. My goat cheese salad had been served to another table, taken back from them and then placed in front of me. I asked for a new salad and was given the exact same one. But the most disappointing part of the night was the fact that we were seated in a small room with a bridal party girls night out with about 15 LOUD DRUNK GIRLS. I know the restaurant had no control over them, but I feel if there were some softer surfaces in the resultant it would lessen the noise.
