Clean bed linens and towels. No counter space in the bathroom but water was hot & pressure was good. I sleep with a white noise and it was needed here. Walking distance to Trader Joe's & Whole Foods. I read there was a park nearby for the pup. It was really just a long stretch of grass. There is much to do in the surrounding area, and we enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was basic economy - for some reason the coffee was not hot any day I tried it and I was up very early. All in all I would stay again. The breakfast attendant on July 3rd, around 8.45am, was being inappropriate and absolutely unhinged. I would like to file a complaint about one of your breakfast attendants in the Orchard Room on July 3 at approximately 8:45 a.m. My experience was extremely uncomfortable and unlike anything I have ever experienced at a hotel. In fact I don't think I ever experienced in my life and I been to many hotels! I arrived about 10 minutes before breakfast ended because I wanted to grab a croissant and a coffee to go. I was the only guest in the breakfast area at the time. From the second I walked in, the breakfast attendant was staring directly at me. Then she literally started FOLLOWING ME around and COMPLAINING on everything I was doing. Like she was coming up to me and literally RIGHT NEXT TO ME and staring at what I was getting and then glaring at my face. WTF. Like for example, when i was getting the croissant, she was angry I was using a napkin to carry the croissant instead of my hand...I literally paid $170 for the night and I can't use a napkin to carry my croissant?? I never had someone do that at a hotel before, it was inappropriate and super unprofessional. She had an angry and crazed bizarre look on her face, just angrily glaring at me and literally following me around the small room. It was SUPER unsettling and unhinged behavior, I was the only one in the room and that made it more uncomfortable. None of the other staff members I interacted with during my stay behaved this way. Every other employee was friendly, welcoming, and professional. While I was getting coffee, she came up to me and asked why I was using two coffee cups. I had simply placed one cup over the other because the coffee was very hot and I wanted to make it easier to carry. Being questioned over something so minor, especially after being stared at and followed around the room, felt completely unnecessary and inappropriate. At that point, I decided to leave the breakfast area because I no longer felt comfortable staying there. As I was walking out, she sarcastically called out, "Thank you for coming," which felt mocking given how she had treated me. Then she started following me around again after I didn't want to talk to her because I was so creeped out!!! For identification purposes, she appeared to be an older thin woman with pale skin, glasses, and faint reddish eyebrows. I have never had a hotel employee stare at me, follow me around a breakfast area, and then question me over using two coffee cups. It made me feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, and singled out. I hope management reviews this incident and reminds staff that guests should be able to enjoy breakfast without feeling like they are being monitored or intimidated. Requested maid service to just replace the towels and empty the garbage, it didn't get done. I notified the Office. Added a third night to stay and found someone knocking several times on my room door at 11a.m., check out was noon, so why they did that was not relayed. Also, my mistake but I left my nice bathrobe hanging on the back of the bathroom door. I called as soon as I noticed on Thursday, again on Friday (I had checked out on Wednesday). Was told each call that staff would check with Housekeeping and call me back. They never called back to let me know. I thought it was very unprofessional and plain rude! It's a simple, clean (faint smoke smell, I was in #225), with the basics I needed. It was two nights. The check-in process took 20 minutes; the front desk person needed help figuring out why my reservation wasn't showing up on their system. I provided the confirmation code and the employee was on the phone with their tech support (I assumed from the conversation) to try and figure it out. The location is quite nice, within walking distance of a few places including bus routes. It is a busy area so you might want to bring earplugs and eye cover because their curtains aren't black out. This place is awful, the road noise is the worst I've ever experienced. The worst part is that this motel is located right next to a place that feeds the homeless, super loud noises from the street walkers in the middle of the night. Makes you feel really unsafe. Also we woke up to a fresh pile of hobo fecal mater next to our rental car. For whats its worth The staff is friendly and the there are black out blinds. Stay here at your own risk. The Grove is a great hotel to be the only hotel in West Seattle. As a West Seattle resident, I've only stayed here myself once during a home renovation; but I've put family members up here many times. They, and I, have similar feedback - it's clean, well-equipped, quiet, and easy to get in and out of. The service level of the staff is also way beyond the price point. However, (and this was very troubling), AFTER spending the night there, we realized the window blind was not adequate to maintain our privacy, as the solid one did not extend all the way to the window sill. This small. Unassuming motel offers comfortably furnished rooms within easy walking distance to shops, groceries, car care, dining and urban attractions. The facility was very clean. The prices are quite reasonable and include parking and light breakfast fare.The staff was amiable, capable and knowledgeable about the area. Thanks to Abby, Angie, Melody, Doug and Nicole- several days I stayed in two different rooms- they were pleasantly quiet. The smaller one would benefit from additional towel racks. We needed to stay here one night while we were having work done in our house. A shout out to Carly at the front desk. She was friendly and checked us in/out promptly. She told us the motel provided a continental breakfast which was a nice surprise. The room we were in was good size. It had two full beds, a desk, an alcove for the closet, luggage rack, small fridge and coffee pot, cups, tea bags, coffee, etc. It also had a mini split for the heater/air conditioner. The wallpaper on one of the walls was cute. Since the motel is located in West Seattle, the wallpaper featured landmarks of West Seattle. The motel is located within walking distance to Trader Joe's, Safeway, Bartell Drugs, a gas station, and 'The Junction', which has many restaurants and businesses, a post office, bakeries, and coffee spots. I had asked for a street level room. The motel is located at a busy intersection. All night I could hear buses, delivery trucks and motor vehicles driving by. That is the reason for a 4 star not a 5 star review. read more

Has become really rundown and needs a new owner who will take care of all the deferred maintenance. I've stayed there several times in the past but will never go there again! Decent value for the area, I suppose. Rooms/sheets/towels are clean (no more black mold that I can see, as someone had reported in 2020). Room does smell like a combination of cleaning products and stale cigarette smoke. No smoking allowed anymore, but I have a feeling guests were lighting up for decades before they came up with this ban. Service at the desk is atrocious. The woman has MAJOR attitude. MAJOR. Dunno her name, but she was the polar opposite of welcoming and gracious upon our arrival. Spent maybe 5 minutes with her, and was on the receiving end of maybe 5 customer service no-no's. read more

I've stayed at the Grove several times through the years and it's always been a pleasant experience. It's actually the only hotel in West Seattle and it's close to the main junction which is nice and the rooms were completely refurbished several years ago. The room we had, room 231, was really in bad shape. The air conditioner rumbled like an old tractor - no way house keeping or maintenance could have missed it. The only way to contact the front desk was to call their area code 206 number. Just a lot of things that gave guests the message that they really didn't want to hear from us, or to ever have our business again. read more

After our flight I walked into the lobby and the hotel manager was wearing a mask and very friendly. I was so tired when I first wrote this however it was such an easy check in. No hidden fees or weird shit. The grove west seattle inn, while simple, is perfect. Queen bed was very comfortable after a long work day and a 2 hour flight. Quiet place, no loud people at night. Has a fridge, coffee maker, and desk area/roll out dining table. Superrrr close walk to trader joes! Great location! Hard to find a place in west Seattle! Let alone seattle that feel cozy and isn't expensive. Great for a couple. Also learned they are pet friendly and offer a parking spot. Will stay here again or when we move officially, will recommend for friends and family. read more

This is absolutely the cutest place! Spotlessly clean, nice fluffy towels, very personable and helpful staff, and a nice continental-type breakfast to enjoy each morning! The rooms were very clean, very quiet, and we will definitely come again when we have accommodation need in West Seattle. When in West Seattle, for business or whatever, the Grove West Inn is a wonderful, affordable & well-located place to stay. I'm about to finish up my third multi-day stay here and will miss it dearly! This has been my home away from home for Christmas 2018, my daughter's Seattle wedding in 2019, and this transitional planning visit in preparation for my cross-country move to this area in a few weeks. The rooms are clean and quiet, breakfast hours (7-10) are generous for us non-Morning people, and all of the staff are friendly & helpful. I have had nothing but positive experiences these three times in the past couple of years. read more

A-okay stay in West Seattle. My boyfriend and I stayed here for three nights for a wedding. This hotel is set up more like a motel with all of the doors/windows facing the outside, which kind of made me feel uneasy, however the only other people we saw were older couples and it felt quite safe. Let's start with the good: free wifi, free parking, in-room refrigerators, complimentary breakfast, clean rooms and nice staff. The Grove has some room for improvement. The walls are quite thin and we were able to hear next door's television throughout the night. The beds aren't very comfortable but the linens were clean. The TV was an older model with a temperamental remote. You have to point it at the exactly the right angle and moment to change channels. We just gave up on watching television. The bathrooms have no counter space and I would have liked more towel racks or places to put our towels. The complimentary breakfast was also nothing to write home about. They had cereal, bagels, yogurt, and bananas. We decided to skip it and went to Bakery Nouveau which is a few minutes away. We really chose this hotel because we wanted somewhere between downtown Seattle and Federal Way but I would probably stay somewhere else next time. The price was $153 per night with taxes and fees and I think it was kind of expensive for what we received. read more

My girlfriend and I came upon the place purely by chance. We were visiting friends who live nearby and were trying to avoid staying at a hotel in downtown Seattle. We were extremely happy here! The rooms were clean and looking newly renovated. The staff all were super pleasant and friendly. A big shout out to Anthony, Lauren, and John for making our stay a great experience. I'd recommend this place to other travelers wanting to stay in/near West Seattle. My only criticisms were that the bathroom had limited counter space and could use another towel bar or hooks and a dresser of some sort would be helpful. read more

We'll be back... Although The Grove West Seattle Inn is an older property; it's been tastefully updated. We were unable to select a king sized room during the reservation process but contacted the property upon receipt of our confirmation and upgraded for a nominal nightly amount. With the exception of the fire station down the street, it was fairly quiet during our 3-night stay. Our only complaint would be the lack of "extra" amenities (ie, coffee cups, tissues, toilet paper, etc.). We're not ones to utilize housekeeping services, so I had to go on the hunt for replacements within 12 hours; no extras of anything in the room. The check in and check out process was seamless. For the most part, this property was perfect for our needs, so we will definitely be back. read more

I'm writing this review not because I've stayed here, but because I want people to know that the previous 2 reviews (from 2/11 and 2010) are reviewing the previous motel that was at this location (Travelodge and more recently West Seattle Inn & Suites). I just came back from the Open House today (6/27/11). There is new management, new policies, and a total and major renovation, including all furnishings. It's not even open yet (first guests arriving next week). Yes, the previous motel owners ran a seedy place with a reputation, but this one is attempting to change that - for one thing, a no cash customer policy. You can go to the West Seattle Blog website to look at photos and info about the new motel. Oh, and it's not "ultra high end" as another review stated - the rates are between $99 and $139. And no, I have no involvement with management. I'm a neighbor (1/2 mile away) who is excited about the new, clean motel, and hate to see it trashed before it even opens. read more

You'll notice this is is a review since the remodel. Took lots of pics for you guys so you'll know what you are getting. Note: at this time some work is still being done so nail guns being used during the day, but quiet for the most part in relation to remodeling. The room: Cute place, nicely redone. Room art is of local businesses. Walk around and you might find the pic in your room. All rooms are non-smoking. Rooms and bathrooms are large. Lots of outlets. Super clean and shiny, but they do still smell like new paint/carpet. I have a sensitive nose, so we kept the window open (no screens) whenever we were there. We loved it because even during the rain it was beautiful outside. Table under the flat screen tv has a larger table (desk) on wheels that you can move where it works for you. I loved that. Largish mini fridge in room fit leftovers, 7 bottles of wine, and a gallon of milk. In-room mini coffee maker with sweetener (pre-packed sets). Microwave is in the office, but easily accessible. Window ac unit. Separate heater thing. Ambient temp was great so we turned them on to see how they worked but that's all. Shower was funny. You need to pull down on spout part. I couldn't figure it out. :p We paid $109/night and I think it was a great deal. Beds were comfy. No comforters which gross me out at hotels. Just a blanket sandwiched in between 2 pristine sheets. I would have prefered a less textured blanket, but that's just me. No one else minded. Fluffy pillows. Comfortable beds. The only thing I think the rooms need is more hanger spacem (Large closet, but small rack) and a couple of table lamps. Kind of dark at times. We loved the tables outside the office and had wine while we played our new board game (go to Card Kingdom, it's Amazing!- store and game retail plus cafe and bar). Staff was good to great. Couldn't answer a lot of where is____? questions and didn't try too hard to find out (they have internet that they close out of when you walk in) but they are all new so I'm sure local knowledge will come with experience. We'd stay there again. The area: Kind of on a weird street with a lot of auto body shops (the yellow building in the pic of the outside area with tables. In the other direction you have medical offices, a veteran's hall. A few blocks away from the cute upscale part of West Seattle. Super cool outdoor gear/kayaking store behind the yellow auto body shop. Huge park thing with a stadium that the Seattle schools share is 1 block east. Alaska has bus lines that run on it and a shuttle (free) to the ferry that goes to Seattle so it can be a noisy street. If noise bothers you, consider earplugs. I used my white noise app or you can keep the window ac unit on fan mode. Slept fine. Safeway, subway, supercuts and more at Alaska and 42nd. Awesome cute downtown area with art collectives, record store, Sunday farmers market, post office, antique/thrift stores, great restaurants (jak's grill and matador) at/around California and SW Alaska. There is a coffee shop in the gym 1.5 blocks away. read more

My wife and I spent the night at The Grove in West Seattle. What a quiet place it was very clean with all the toiletries items you'd find in the high dollar hotels. The breakfast was well supplied with hot cereal too which fits the needs for us. They could use those foam mattress padding but the mattress we had was firm but could use that extra padding. I'd come back for sure the next trip to Seattle. The express bus to downtown Seattle was quick and easy to get too. read more

For the price and the fact that they allow pets, this place is great. My husband and I stayed here in early January. The room was very thoughtfully decorated and put together. It had the style and flair you'd expect from somewhere a lot more expensive. It was also very clean, and the staff were very courteous. When we ended up getting a flat tire on our way to Seattle and needing to cancel one night of our reservation, it was no problem, and they didn't charge us for it. They also offer free wi-fi, mini-fridges, and continental breakfast. (A much costlier place that we stayed at in Seattle had no breakfast, no fridges, and charged daily for wi-fi.) The biggest downside was the traffic noise. The windows are thin and not well insulated, so they sound like they're open, even when they're not. (They also let heat out easily.) Traffic going by was pretty audible. The only other problem was that our TV was having trouble with certain channels for some reason. It was hit or miss. Because traffic noise doesn't bother me too much, and I don't watch a lot of TV, the downsides weren't deal breakers. It was also really, really important to me that they allowed pets. I live in Seattle now, so I wouldn't need a room anymore, but if someone I knew needed one, I would definitely recommend The Grove. read more

The last review I read on this lovely little Inn was from a neighbor stating that new owners had come in and totally remodeled the old sleazy West Seattle Travelodge. I called and got a reservation on the the 4th of July so I could attend my buddies 50th Birthday Party. He lives in West Seattle and there are virtually ZERO accommodations options available there. When I arrived the place had totally been painted on the exterior and since they are renovating in phases the interiors they currently have about 8-10 rooms open and ready. The rooms have contemporary furniture, new paint, new beds and furnishings and new bathroom fixtures! The only thing that prevented me from giving them 5-stars was they didn't put new tile in the bathrooms. Other than that the place is brand new! Free WiFi and brand new 42" LG flatscreens. Right on the Metro bus-line if you want to go to Seattle and not have to drive. It's also just a couple blocks walk up to California St. with shops and restaurants. If your a golfer West Seattle Municipal is right across the street. The staff is courteous and helpful and i would stay there again in a heartbeat. It is too bad that old posts from the sleazy Travelodge days remain up and effect actual ratings for this new gem in campy West Seattle. How many stars for a hotel? How to compare? For $109/night, this would be waaay overpriced in Clear Lake City, TX. In Washington DC, an incredible bargain. And in this end of Seattle? Who knows? I'll call it 3 stars, trending towards 4. Considering the price and location. They finished a makeover just 6 weeks ago. They're still ironing some of the kinks out. I stayed 3 nights (Fri - Sun.) They have done an attractive makeover of what had never been a luxury room. Somebody with a flair for decorating had done a clever job, but without a great budget. Beds were comfortable and the bedding was quality. Lighting wasn't quite adequate. The bathroom had no shelving; the towels were all stacked on the back of the toilet tank. Someone had torn the towel bar out, leaving a ragged hole in wall, unfixed. I reported it Sat morning, but their maintenance guy doesn't work weekends; it didn't get fixed. Heating and cooling were tricky to operate. There was no wastebasket in the bathroom. Striking local artwork on the room's walls. Desk chair was quite comfortable. But the outlets by the desk weren't grounded and we couldn't plug our laptops in there. The free wi-fi signal was so low as to be unusable; the front-desk guy said that, although there's a wireless router close to my room, he had no way to tell when it went offline. The Continental breakfast was all cold, hi carb, and had no protein. The front desk guy seemed genuinely concerned about the problems, logging them and promising to get management to address them. He gave me a decent apology, which matters a lot. I'd stay here again, especially as there's really not many other choices close to my sister's house. Next time, though, I'd get a room that opened on the interior court, rather than facing Alaska Ave. Less traffic noise. read more
