The one guy working who took our order and cooked the food was so friendly and even let us in a local music show going on that evening! They have a lot of meat and veggie options. After hours of frolicking around Salem and listening to the witch history of the city we were famished and ready to rest our feet and fill our bellies. Now of course everything in Salem was pretty crowded and we were looking for just a quick bite to eat, so The Gyro Spot was what we settled on. And I was so happy this was our choice. A bit of a hole in the wall with not much seating, but we managed to snag some seats in the window. Now The Gyro Spot has no frills to their business, but if you're popping in, you're stopping for food not the ambiance of being in Salem. The staff working behind the counter were really nice and even apologized for a little bit of a wait when receiving my food. I got the traditional gyro with beef and lamb and let me tell you that was the best gyro I've had. They don't use the pre-formed meat slices; they actually use slices of lamb meat which I thoroughly enjoyed. And the fries were crispy and seasoned. My only grip was I didn't ask for the sauce on the side, because I often find they put too much sauce and I'm not a huge fan. However, that was a mistake of my own and the gyro was still amazing. I hate posting non positive reviews but hopefully this feedback helps whoever runs this place improve it. 1.) the food was a 3/10. When the fries and tomatoes are the best part of your gyro something is very off. I had the beef and lamb gyro with a side of tzatziki; the meat lacked seasoning / flavor and was overly dry. The portion size for meat was far below what I consider acceptable for a 16$ quick takeaway sandwich, the tzatziki lacked garlic and herbs, it was just tangy. 2.) the employees were nice enough but they need to think of the customers and the ambiance they are creating; having death metal screamo music blasting while customers are in here eating with their children and their significant others just kills the mood. Needless to say 20$ for an underwhelming gyro. a side of tzatziki, a pita and death metal music I won't be coming back. read more

I would give this place a -5/10. I got the chicken gyro. The chicken was a little dry and gave me a slight stomach ache. The fries that came in the gyro were very good. When in Salem for Halloween and you see a restaurant that is empty, perchance follow your intuition and move on. We surely didn't. The staff appeared to be a mixture of high schoolers or adults playing high schoolers, and their energy was super chaotic and unprofessional. Once we ordered, the place filled with smoke. I contemplated stepping outside because I was choking, as I have asthma. In the corner sat a homeless dude with no purchased food, but he did have a 6 pack that he kept drinking in between naps. The tzatziki fries were disappointing as hell, dry and not worth the price. I got the falafel gyro and when I say it was 80% pickles, please heed my advice. The falafel also tasted bitter. Every single bite, and I had my husband try it in case it was me. It was as if they were made with vinegar. I could not finish it. My husband ordered the lamb and beef. To me, it was dry AF. To him, it wasn't good. The little meat it had was again, dry, and he simply couldn't find something positive to say about it. I'm honestly surprised at the ratings. Over the last few years, we have happily popped into the Gyro spot for a snack or a late-night treat on the way home. This week, we decided to try an actual full meal for delivery. I opted for the gryo lamb and beef bowl with rice as my base, the other choice was fries, but I was trying to be a bit healthy. Hubs got the full combo gyro with a Greek salad and a hefty serving of fries and rings. He had a tough time finishing it, but he prevailed! My son has been dying to try the Gyro Spot in Salem. We finally made it there yesterday and it did not disappoint. We were greeted with kindness and enthusiasm. The chicken is always so tasty and the G sauce really ties everything together. Not to mention they always load the gyro up, it's massive! I ordered the lemon soup and falafel plate and was looking forward to my meal. First, the lemon soup was orange and very, very bland. It honestly tasted like water and rice so I immediately dumped it, $8 right down the drain. Then, I wanted to mix my falafel bowl together so I could eat it with my pita so I broke apart the falafel. Wish I would have read the reviews in advance. Dry meat, dry tasteless hummus as a side order. And the wrap was mostly sauce with large chunks of meat with fat or grizzle on them. Third time here . First two times the food was decent and staff was friendly . Today however is a different story . Went in to order 4 gyros for my family . The woman who took my order was nice . There was a man as well who was very unfriendly and his clothing were filthy . He started making our gyros and put gloves on so that was good however his nasty stained sleeves were touching our food as he leaned over to retrieve the items . Gross . I've had takeout from the Gyro Spot several times and each time the food was excellent. I love the lamb and beef gyro, but hold the fries: I'll have those on the side, not on my gyro. VERY disappointing! I would the beef and lamb gyro I ordered on two occasions a negative 10 if that was an option. But first the positives. The restaurant was clean and on both occasions the two different staff members we very polite and welcoming. On both occasions I ordered the same lamb/beef gyro. On the second occasion I requested the fries not to be put in the gyro and the order was received as ordered. The food... where do I start... the meat was so dry and crusty every bite was a struggle. Love Gyros. Was very excited to try this place. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. Beef and Lamb Gyro had no seasoning or flavor. It included seasoned fries.
