Everything we tried was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor, and the menu had so many interesting dishes that it was hard to choose. It's easy to see why Bar Vlaha is now Michelin recommended. Make a reservation if you can! I could not get over the flavors of all the dishes. Mine has freshly made pasta and it's thin, lathered in the sauce. The egg is perfectly cooked that the yolk breaks into the pasta, they give you the perfect amount of sausage for the pasta. Just a heads-up: the food is very rich. I really appreciate our server letting us honestly know that three dishes would be more than enough for three people because they may look small to medium sized but they're hefty. All of us were so full we had to go on a walk after! The only other note from a service perspective is that they're so busy that I had to get up and physically track someone down to ask for an extra piece of bread and more water. We had a great seat facing the kitchen ain't got to watch them put together dishes. We attended a wake nearby. Had just heard about this greek restaurant from a relative and decided to try a get a last min reservation. Only one was avail and it was at 7:45 pm. We arrived early and hungry, they found a spot for us even though it was packed and did not make us wait for our actual time. Our server was Andres, who I highly recommend! Andres made recommendations for the wine, a full bodied red, the Saginaki appetizer (without the pistachios) and a potato-eggplant dish and the grilled lamb chops. He said we should share all the foods, and they were all excellent. The dessert was too, I had never had baklava as I have an allergy to walnuts. He informed me that their baklava was made with almonds instead. Score! Andres had extensive knowledge of the food and that really made our first visit. Came here on a Friday evening to celebrate an anniversary and everything was amazing! First, we tried to make a reservation 3 weeks in advance and could only get a 9:00pm table, but after emailing back and forth with the Director of Guest Relations through the website form, we were able to switch to a 6:45pm patio reservation. Of course, with Boston weather being as it is, the day before our reservation showed rain so we thought we'd have to revert to our 9:00pm dinner, but amazingly they were able to find a table inside at 6:45 for us! The reservation process was so accommodating and cordial that it alone deserves 5 stars for spectacular service! Now for the actual meal - everything was top notch and really well seasoned. Specifics: 3 Spreads ($24) - TZATZIKI - yogurt, cucumber, dill - This was really nice and refreshing. It was also surprisingly light for what it was, and really tasty with the perfect amount of acid! - GALOTYRI - creamy sheep's milk cheese, aged feta - This was very creamy and rich. The chives on top added a nice bite as well. - TARAMOSALATA - carp roe, lemon, olive oil - My favorite of the three spreads - it was salty and tasted like seafood very slightly. It was rich, creamy, and just delicious with the provided sourdough bread which itself was soft and delicious! MANITARIA - crispy fried oyster mushrooms, maidanosalata ($18) - This was the star dish of the night, and all of the other Yelp reviews back this up. This was the one dish we absolutely had to try and it was soooo good - perfectly crisp without being oily at all with really flavorful mushrooms beneath the breading. The parsley salad on top was nice and refreshing, and the capers added a nice zing - it was a touch on the salty side, but really wonderful with the sourdough bread. I wish it were larger! SAGANAKI - fried Vlahotyri cheese, Metaxa, seasonal spoon sweet, pistachios ($16) - Soooo rich and warm, this dish came sizzling in the cast iron pan. It was the perfect amount of sweet and the pistachios added a nice crunch to the creamy and rich cheese! TASTE OF GREECE - Idoniko Tsipouro, Barbayanni 'Aphrodite' Ouzo, Kleos Mastiha ($18) - We didn't originally order this but wanted to try some Greek drinks, so we had this between our meal and dessert. The first drink had a very strong alcohol flavor and wasn't our favorite, but the Ouzo was deliciously licorice flavored, and the last of the three smelled like tree sap and tasted slightly sweet with very little burn. 1 oz per drink is small, but it was nice to try a few options! GIANNIOTIKO - rolled baklava and kataifi, almonds, olive oil ice cream ($10) - The baklava was yummy, but the star of this was the olive oil ice cream and the crunch underneath it - it tasted like a crunchy salted caramel with olive oil, and the flavors really balanced each other out well. The ice cream actually tasted of olive oil but was still sweet with actual oil drizzled on top and salt crystals - super interesting, new, and delicious! The breakfast platter let us try a bunch of things on the menu such as greek coffee, greek yogurt, and the OJ, but what I really loved was the greek yogurt and the candied walnuts with honey - this was one of the best greek yogurts I've ever had with the light sweetness and smooth texture. We also ordered the saganaki cheese and it paired so nicely with the pistachio and cooked orange sweet. I definitely recommend getting the lamb souvla - it was so tender and seasoned so perfectly that I couldn't taste any gaminess that typically comes with lamb. I came to Bar Vlaha to celebrate my birthday, but also to check out some Greek-style food. What initially was a last-minute and arbitrary decision became the best decision I have made. The ambiance was nice, gave such a village, rusty feel. The staff greeted me, they were upbeat, courteous and personable. It felt like a team effort, where the manager, servers and bussers all worked synergistically to provide a great experience for myself and my family. The food and drinks were superb. I tried the wild boar shoulder, red wine, warm spices, hilopites, manouri, and it was tender and absolutely delicious. I sampled some of my family member's spinach, with rice, dill, lemon and eggplant with potato, feta, garlic, onion, tomato sauce and was WOW'd. I washed it down with a Miso Miso (a rye with chicory) and a Vlaha Blast (rum, with salep, mastiha, lime sorbet) and they were made like a great mixologist would. Just when I thought everything was all set, my family had mentioned to them it was my birthday and they gave me a wonderful dessert with a mix of amazing treats. Throughout our meals, the service from the team was attentive and accommodating. I want to thank one of the servers (I believe he goes by AJ for short) and the manager (I wish I remembered his name) for providing such excellent service. Truly a five star experience! I can now understand why it is so hard to get a reservation here. Despite logging on to Open Table about three weeks before we intended to dine here, the only available reservations were at 5pm and after 9. We made things work to do the 5pm reservation, which is just when the place opens. The interior is very warm and inviting with beautiful photography depicting women in traditional Greek clothing and nice pottery. There is a bar as well as several dining tables. We were seated at a four top as a party of three, but noted that there were larger tables seating six or more that may provide a more communal dining experience. To start, we tried their cocktails. My love had their variation of a Negroni, which included a Greek bitter that was a little more bitter than a traditional Negroni, but refreshing. I had their Golden Solstice with tequila and mezcal garnished with a cherry tomato. The drink had a nice smoky flavor, as expected, but the unusual garnish really made it stand out. For apps, we had the tzatziki, which was excellent and served with their made in house bread. We also had the saganaki, which was so good! I was disappointed that it was not flambéed table side but after tasting it, I really didn't care anymore- so yum. We also tried the crispy oyster mushrooms, which were fabulous! For an entrée, I had the Aradopita, which is a gluten-free dish of cornmeal , feta and greens that was highly recommended by our server. This was delicious. My love had the Melitzana which was kind of an eggplant, feta stew and my friend had the lamb slouva, which was a substantial portion and served on a large cutting board. I honestly probably could have stopped eating after the apps, but still finished my meal because it was just so delicious. We all really enjoyed the food. Service was excellent. I didn't even realize I dropped my napkin and a fresh one was already on the table. Fresh silverware with each course. It is definitely pricey for Greek food, but the whole experience and ambience makes it worth it. We finished with Greek coffees and dessert wine. The coffee is beautifully presented on a golden tray and includes a Turkish delight. I am looking forward to returning here. We decided to venture to Brookline after seeing Bar Vlaha top the list of best restaurants in Boston by Boston Magazine. The restaurant was filled on a Sunday morning but we had already reserved a table, definitely recommended for the weekends. The space was inviting and I enjoyed being able to see into the kitchen as well. On our reservation we put down that we were celebrating a special occasion and our waiter brought over some ouzo on the house, which was drink in between sips of greek coffee. We definitely appreciated the gesture and it provides a picture on how kind the staff is. The variety of food that we ordered met our expectations and we were impressed with the quality of the ingredients used. First time at Bar Vlaha with a friend- overall, solid but not life changing We started with spreads and bread and we got the trio: Kopanisti (whipped feta), Melitzanosalata (charred eggplant), and Taramosalata (carp roe). The dips were all good. The whipped feta was creamy, the eggplant had that nice smoky depth and the taramosalata was super interesting, very briny in the best "yes, this is definitely roe" kind of way. Only note is that the Horiatiko Psomi (house bread) could've been warm/toasted for my preference especially given the price of the dips, I expected the bread to be a little more elevated too Then we got the Lahanodolmades (cabbage stuffed with beef and pork, rice, mint, avgolemono). Well seasoned, the cabbage was tender without falling apart and that lemony avgolemono sauce tied everything together- it was bright and savory. For mains, we shared the Moschari me Damaskina (red wine-braised beef cheeks with prunes, trahanas) and Arni stin Souvla (slow-roasted lamb leg). The beef cheek was ridiculously tender- like barely touch it and it falls apart. Rich, slightly sweet from the prunes, with that warm spice note of the cinnamon that balanced the tomato acidity really nicely. The lamb was cooked well and definitely tasty but nothing super extravagant compared to other Greek lamb dishes I've had. Still really yummy especially with the onions and a squeeze of lemon cutting through the lamb. I started with their house wine, which had a smooth finish. It's a lovely spot with really nice and minimalistic decor, friendly service, and really tasty food/drinks. I started with the Greek citrus mimosas and an order of the KOLOKITHAKIA TIGANITA for the table (crispy zucchini). It was delicious along with the yogurt sauce but will say the portion was a bit small. I also ordered SFOUGATO which was a baked frittata, and the shakshouka to share with my partner. We love @krasi so of course we had to try the sister restaurant at boogie Brookline. The high ceiling and open kitchen give a laid back vibe. And the service is reasonably fast. We got the trio of dips $18: the tzatziki is creamy and cool, the kopanisti tangy with a slight bite, and the melitzanosalata, rich with smoky eggplant, was my personal favorite. These were served alongside their signature sourdough, which is wonderfully chewy and abundantly sour, complementing the dips perfectly. We felt the need to try the Greek yogurt $10, which was topped with honey, walnuts, and kiwi, adding a lovely mix of textures and an extra layer of flavor. But i don't even enjoy the dry plain Greek yorgurt idk why im always trying. Souvla and eggs $28 was my favorite dish by far. The lamb was perfectly cooked--tender and juicy on the inside, with crispy, charred edges--and it paired wonderfully with the rich, runny yolk of the fried eggs and a side of fresh, healthy veggies. But why is there only 4 slices of lamb? The unfiltered Greek coffee was too exotic we unfortunately did not acquire the taste, but the lemon tea was refreshing. It was good but not show stopping good. Sides are extra, a lot extra. We got the potatoes and they were fine. The wild boar was very good albeit I thought the pasta component of the dish was over cooked. We also had the crayfish/rice dish. Neither of us cared for it, very vinegary. Dessert was very good- chocolate cake. We did get a bottle of wine it was nice that it was from Greece. What a hip and hot place in Brookline! Make sure you make a reservation before dining here on the weekends. I came for brunch and was pleasantly surprised by how tasty everything we ordered was. Prices are steep, but I'd say for the taste and quality of food, they're not too bad. PRICE: Though the menu can seem jarring, the prices are actually quite filling and the total bill came out to around $65 each. Not a bad split for a supposed higher level dining experience. We reserved a spot outside, my only qualm is that the circular tables are super small for a "sharing plates" style of restaurant. We came here on a Wednesday with a 6:30 dinner reservation for a party of 2 and were promptly seated. The interior has lovely photographs of Greek rural life and there is an open view of the kitchen and bar which I always enjoy, we put in our food and drink orders just after being seated and everything started coming out shortly thereafter. For appetizers, we got the dolmades (grape leaves stuffed with rice, pork, and beef) which were pretty good, but the standout was the various spreads and their delicious sourdough bread. We got the tzatziki, kopanisti (whipped feta with roasted red pepper), and melitzanosalata (roasted eggplant) dips. They were all so incredibly flavorful and their psomi sourdough bread was thickly sliced, dense, and a great vessel for the spreads. For entrees, we got the kontosouvli (Greek yogurt marinated chicken) and the melitzana yiahni (seasoned eggplant, potato, and feta in a tomato sauce). I got the chicken which was two drumsticks and two smaller chicken thighs that are cooked on a rotating horizontal spit which you can see in the kitchen (I always appreciate seeing how the food is made just because I'm a cooking nerd). The chicken was so well-seasoned and had a great taste even though it had a deceivingly simple appearance. For dessert, we got an espresso and the bougatsa (custard and phyllo dough with sorbet). This rounded out the dinner very nicely. My only qualm which knocked it down a star for me was the price of the soda (which feels like a ludicrous thing for me to say as I write this). It pains me to say this given that the meal was amazing and I don't think I've ever once critiqued an establishment for the price of a commodity/very low overhead item such as this. When we got the bill, I was surprised to see that the two diet cokes I got were $5 each for an 8 fluid ounce glass bottle. For reference, a can of soda is 12 fl oz and a typical plastic bottle is 20 fl oz. I tried to find this listed on the menu anywhere, but I can't quite seem to find it anywhere. I just can't wrap my head around the price of this given that it's such low overhead (whereas cocktails which require a lot of time and ingredients to produce would be a high overhead item). It really was jarring and unexpected and I hope that they can either correct the price or help me understand the justification of it or just straight up not sell soda if the price isn't reduced. Overall, the food was amazing and worthy of a trip and I highly recommend this place for dinner! I would just avoid the expensive soda. Also, I unfortunately didn't enjoy their brunch anywhere near this much, so I can't say my dinner recommendation holds the same for brunch. read more

Was very excited to try Bar Vlaha and it didn't disappoint. The service was awesome and ambiance was good. The decor isn't anything crazy but the table setting and design is nice. As for the food it was delicious. We got the sausages, trio dip, chicken, spinach pie, and grape leaves and all were very good. The bread with the dip was very fluffy and fresh. The sausages had a great crisp to them. I would recommend for date night! read more
