I've been going to Bridget long before there was The Hair Box and she's amazing. My hair looks deceivingly simple, but it's a pain to cut and she always makes it look fabulous. Seriously, it's a minimum of 3 hours for cut and color. She's so awesome that she keeps notes to make sure she can replicate close to what she did the last time, especially on color combinations. I always look forward to visiting her and her recommendations on what will work best. She is very patient and a great conversationalist too! The shop is petite with just two chairs. She rents the other one to a part-time barber who's there on some mornings. To me, that's great because she's focused on me and it's not crazy noisy like other salons. One of the other reviewers mentioned the parking in front, but Bridget will run out and feed the meter if you have to do the metered stall and you're there long enough. At $104 for cut and color, I don't believe there is a better place in town and I don't want to try to find out. My only hesitation in recommending her is that she'll get more busy and it will be harder to get an appointment! :-) read more

I have no idea why there are not more reviews on Bridget. I love my new haircut! Now after almost a year of not cutting my hair I was ready to just chop it all off. I've been going to Bridget for the longest time now and everytime I get my haircut with her I get complements left and right. I will post a couple of pictures. I didn't have a picture of the type of cut I wanted since I threw away my Short Haircuts 2010 magazine recently when I was cleaning out my house but Bridget figured it out. She is a perfectionist so don't think you're going in and then out with a new do in no time. Not that she takes forever cutting your hair believe me I had A LOT of hair but she tweeks your cut to the way you want it to look. My input was very important to her. She wanted me satisfied before i left and I appreciated that. My appointment was at 5:30pm and I didn't leave until 7:00pm. I felt so bad but she was so patience with me. Overall I LOVE my new look! Parked right in front of the Hair Box window front. There is only one stall so beware you might have to find street parking. There are about four meter stalls right up in front of the shop so hopefully you get lucky. Oh cant forget about price paid around 52.00 plus some change. Way better than what I paid at another place I went to (which I will not mention since that is another review) which was 75.00 I had less hair and less of a complicated cut then what I got with Bridget. Yup by now I know exactly where to go for my cut everytime. Now to find someone to shape my brows....Sigh read more

I visited Bridgette 3 times and each time she cut my hair she did a good job! I can tell that she has a lot of skills and new techniques to make my hair look great and up to date! (Eh just cuz I'm 35 don't mean I gotta look it) After I had my cute baby, I went to her for a stylish mom cut! It was so cute! My hubby LOVED it!! Another time while i was growing out my hair she could tell (without me telling her) that one side had lots more hair. She did a great job thinning it out. I always left the shop looking fabulous! I found Bridget when I moved to Honolulu back in 2007. After having my hair cut by a salon in Waianae (horrible!), my friend referred me to Bridget (shouldve asked her first!). I highlight my hair and prefer it to be more ash blonde highlights than pomeranian orange. Bridget nails the right color every time! She also adds low lights and weaves in all the highlights and low lights at the same time - not like some salons that paint on your hair color and then highlight. All the colors get foiled so it looks professional and natural! She also gave me my post-baby hair cut - a cute bob that went over well with the hubby! Im going to see her this week for my birthday haircut and color. I cant wait!! read more

I have Okinawan hair, which means it's thick, grows out quickly, and can get very frizzy and unmanageable in Hawaii's humid climate. I've been straightening my hair for the last five or so years, and so far Bridget is the best. My first few experiences at other salons doing straight perms were horrible. My second straight perm burned my scalp when the solution was sloppily put on too close to my scalp (which resulted in a huge patch of hair falling out). My third straight perm felt rushed and they didn't ask me about what kind of cut I wanted. Bridget always does an excellent job asking what kind of cut you want, she asks how it looks and never minds when you ask her to cut just a little more. She is neat, friendly and meticulous. My straight perms always come out looking fabulous. And as an added bonus, she takes the time to explain the straightening process, what shampoos and conditioners to use, and how to maintain healthy hair and scalp. I wouldn't think of any other stylist to turn to for my hair needs. read more

Bridget is very easy to talk to and therefore highly receptive to your needs and ideas for your hairstyle. She takes her time, which is appreciated, but don't expect to be in-and-out. My appointment went over-time because she offered to straighten my hair, then realized just how much hair I had. My total came out to something between the student rate I expected (from what was on her site) and the regular rate. Don't know about that? I would recommend her for everyday cut and styling. Bridgette is amazing. She is able to transform my enormous head of hair into a professional, sleek and chic hairdo. My hair is the litmus test for any hairdresser -- mass qualities with a little curl, lots of volume, and a few early white hairs. Last time I checked, Troy Polamalu's hairdo was not in high demand in salons these days, so my hairdresser need to know what they are doing or I look like an NFL player. I go every few months, but she does remember my head-of-hair and books extra time to tackle the beast. Always an interesting conversation too. Today we talked about home improvement projects, public school education in Hawaii, and burning trash in bushes. Just don't be on your bluetooth when you're driving there or you'll miss it -- I passed it twice today and I've been going there for a few years. read more

I lived in Los Angeles for 10 years and I've been to the best they have to offer. The most I've spent on a single haircut was $135; and I'm a guy! My point is, you can only be so good at cutting hair and price alone doesn't determine the quality of a haircut. I've been going to see Bridget at The Hair Box for over two years now and trust me when I say that you couldn't tell the difference between a $135 haircut vs. a $35 haircut, What is truly the sign of a good haircut has to do with more than just technique, it's about the overall experience and personality of the stylist. When I first moved back to Hawaii I was amazed at the amount of attitude some of these hairstylists have. I had never experienced such rudeness and cold treatment, even in LA. I'm not here to rip apart the other local salons, but I will tell you that even on a bad day, Bridget is way cooler than anybody else I've been to. I used to think that in order to get a great trim you needed to go to some fancy salon with a whole bunch of chairs, hip music, and trendy people. Truth is, quality has nothing to do with those things. I really like the homey atmosphere of the Hair Box. No bells and whistles, just straight forward hair cutting and good conversation. I've been trying to spread the word about this little gem but now I worry that with this economy more and more people will be looking for a quality hairstylist without those insane prices and I'll have to fight to get an appointment. read more

I called the Hair Box on my day off to see if there was an opening for a root color touch-up on the same day. I was thrilled when Bridget booked me for 1:30pm appointment. I was thrilled. When I arrived, I found a cozy two-chair salon with two waiting chairs, a very welcoming atmosphere. She did a thorough consult on my current hair color before deciding on an appropriate color. About 2/3 into the appointment, I totally appreciated that she ran outside to drop more coins into my parking meter. It was my first time there, so I didn't realize there was a dedicated customer parking stall between the sidewalk and her shop.I left the appointment feeling that my hair was bouncy and healthy. Wow-- one of the best cuts I've had! An all around great experience, which is a relief when getting a cut from someone you haven't been to before. I'm here on vacation from Vegas and really needed a trim, so I called Bridget based on her great ratings on Yelp. She called me back within an hour and was super flexible to fit me in with less than a week's notice. Her studio is super cute and clean, and she is very friendly and easy to talk to. She listened to what I wanted, and asked me some questions to make sure she knew exactly how I usually styled my hair. I loved that she made recommendations based on "problem areas" (my annoying "flip" in the back). She did a great job with my Anglo frizzy hair, and the stacking and thinning look amazing. Price was reasonable and approximate to what I usually pay in Vegas ($50 for cut and style). I would pay more knowing what a great job she did on my unruly mess. One tip: leave yourself time to find parking-- there are about 5 spots on the street in front of her studio, but it's a one way street, so you have to circle if you can't find anything right in front. read more

Bridgette is awesome! i feel like i know her like a sister. she has so much personalilty and is so friendly, you come out with not only with great highlights but also with a great customer service experience. she really is knowledgable and you can tell she loves what she does. My highlights came out nice and i have very processed medium brown hair. Despite the bad condition of my hair coloring job i did myself(lol) she was able to bring out some nice highlights that really looks natural and pretty. I was just referred to this place a year ago by a good friend of mine and have been going there ever since. One of my best friends just had her wedding and we had the two girls from the HAIRBOX, Jasmine and Bridgette style our hair and It came out beautifully. There were 5 bridesmaids and the bride and all of our styling was done in a timely manner. Jasmine has been my personal stylist and has given me the best advice for my hair and always takes time to show me new products, haircuts, color and daily care.
