I would recommend calling beforehand to ask about the wait. Although we commuted from Cambridge, this meal was worth it. For two people, we got: - Black Seed Cornbread: it's soft, sweet yet savory. I've never had cornbread like this, and the first bite into this was unforgettable. You must get this. - Honey Nut Hummus: this was honestly fine and I'd probably try a different dip next time. - Warm Gyro bread: well seasoned and great to share between two. I normally don't like gyro but I enjoyed this. - Lamb al pastor: this was a favorite. It was sweet and the lamb was tender. We were really impressed with the sauce. - Brussel sprout bravas: this was okay. I liked the crunchy nuts and the star of this dish was once again the sauce/seasoning rather than the brussel sprouts. With all of these dishes, we ordered enough for two, with a few bites leftover. If you have a smaller appetite, you could get away with ordering a plate less. Overall, I loved the dining experience here. Even though I'm not typically a small plates mediterranean person, I appreciated Sarma - from its beautiful interior space and open kitchen concept, to the liveliness of the restaurant on a random weekday night. Definitely come here if you're in the area (or even if you're not!)

Reservations were already fully booked for the next month out, so we decided to take our chance and see if we could get bar seating around opening time. It was already pretty packed 10 minutes after opening, and the host told us that bar seating would open up in about an hour, but we would have to wait at the restaurant. Meanwhile, the wait for a table would be almost 2 hours, but we would be notified when our table is ready so we put ourselves down on the table waitlist and went elsewhere in the mean time. We came back after 2 hours, and the table was ready exactly then! I ordered some sort of Mango Mocktail and then my friend and I shared the Black Sea Cornbread and Roasted Sunchokes. Food is very unique with creative twists on all their dishes. The cornbread was delicious - it basically melted in my mouth and I liked how it actually had a kick to it. Very tasty, but just a tad bit salty. I have never had Sunchokes before but they were delicious! Very colorful presentation. A lot of the sauce was at the bottom so it could have been mixed more evenly. Mango mocktail was sweet and refreshing! Overall, Sarma has great, flavorful food and plenty of vegetarian options. Very difficult to get reservations so either plan well in advance or arrive right at opening time

Everything came well packed, with the salad in a large plastic clam shell, two little sauce containers of each dip, two ziplock baggies of pita triangles, napkins, plastic ware, all sitting on the aluminum foil covered tray of meat and rice. Since I had been enticed by Bea's photo of this dish, I was a little disappointed at the lack of grilled vegetables. But there was salad and upon reflection, the menu made no mention of such veggies, so perhaps there's been changes over time? The rice received props from this household, and wonder at how it was flavored. The meat, though medium to well done, was tender enough, and the lamb lacked that gaminess that the non-lamb-eater among us so dislikes. The kafta and shrimp were the most strongly seasoned proteins of the bunch, and the shrimp rather juicy. Both hummus and garlic dip were good, but the garlic is indeed strong with the latter, so spread with a light hand. You can always add more to taste after all. The worst that could be said was that I wished that there had been more tomatoes in the salad, and if only they had not split the pita triangles. Pitas without their pockets are rather tougher to enjoy as self made mini sandwich bundles of all the good flavors and textures. I hope they see this and reconsider.

To my unfortunate surprise, I had squeezed a good amount of hot sauce all over my platter and wasn't able to eat around it. All I remember was the first few bites were delicious until I couldn't taste anything but hot sauce anymore. That was completely my fault. Fast forward they opened a location closer to home. I am so glad I tried it again because man... it is just so dang good, homey, comforting, and delicious! The service and staff at this location is impeccable. They are literally the cleanest people I ever seen working for a chain. I mean who cleans the stove vent in the middle of service? They do. (And yes, they protected and covered the food properly.) I've never seen one rice kernel out of place and have yet to see anything not shiny let alone sticky. Staff is quick, attentive, work well together, and also upsell you nonchalantly. Girl sold me a cookie I didn't even want but willingly bought without being pushy...that's impressive. Anyway,I highly recommend!

Usually one plate is enough for me to eat 2 meals which is great! Extra white sauce, couple dribbles of hot sauce mix and enjoy. Usually get the tomatoes, onions, green peppers and jalapeños. I personally would probably stick to the beef only for my taste. Nice flavoring easy protein. The chicken at times could be a bit dry or bland. Decided to try the bbq spicy chicken this time but got mostly sweet and sour taste no kick. You can choose to have salad mixed with the combo and it comes with naan pieces i think haha All in all, great for a quick pop in, service was stellar, staff was super nice and promptly got what you wanted/needed. Will be back

Both were delicious, as was the homemade pita that came with the stew. Lots of food - probably could've shared one entree between the two of us. Friendly suggestion to restaurant- the veggy stew was piping hot (heat, not spice). Even after letting it sit for 10', was still crazy hot. Maybe don't need to cook it to that temp. I came here for lunch and ordered the foul al-shams, chicken vegetable stew, and a side of rice. Unfortunately the stew appeared without chicken and foul al-shams was so delayed that we told them to cancel it. The chicken vegetable stew was piping hot and full of flavor. The shredded chicken was tender and the stew did not feel too heavy to feel bogged down. The bread that came with it was also big and crisp but still soft inside. Together the two made a complementary meal that was satisfying. Despite how hard it was to track down our waiter, we still enjoyed the part of the meal we had. The upstairs definitely feels like the waiters are more on top of it and there is a more airy ambiance. The downstairs wasnt the most ideal and while good for big groups, youre still very aware of dining in a basement.
