Served with Rice, Salad, Hummus and pita bread) so I could have leftovers to take to work the next day. I placed my order, paid for it and had to wait for about 15 minutes to get my food. While waiting, I was able to look around the restaurant to see it was clean and brightly lit. The table and floors were clean and there were a few customers dining inside. The staff was nice and friendly as well. I got my food home and was pleasantly surprised at the amount of food in the combo dish. There was a good amount of meat and rice, enough for two people easily. The combo dish is $25 but well worth it. The meat was cooked nicely and had good flavor. The food was so good that I decided to put in an order on Grubhub the next night to get it for dinner for later in the week. I wanted to place an order on Grubhub to get free delivery as a Prime member, but the online menu did not have the Spinach pies listed, so I ended up having to call into the restaurant to place my order. When you call into the restaurant, they take your number and will send you a link to pay for your order and to send them your address and delivery instructions. I ordered the same items again, but got extra Spinach pies and a Greek Salad with chicken as well. The delivery guy was nice and brought my food up to me as instructed. The salad was fresh and there was plenty of Chicken Shawarma on top of it. I ended up having that for dinner as well as one of the Spinach pies and it was delish. The Chicken Shawarma was very nice and again, this was a decent size salad and was filling along with the pie. I definitely want to go back to try some of the other dishes that they have, like the wraps and the gyro plate and/or wrap. There is a lentil soup I would also like to try as well. I would definitely recommend Falafel & Grill for eats.

The Halal guys started as a hotdog cart in New York city in 1990. As the business grew the three founders recognized a huge demand from Muslim cab drivers for Halal food. Halal means meat prepared as prescribed by muslim law. That's when they invented the chicken and gyro platter and their special white and hot sauce. After 26 years, the food cart grew and there are many restaurants all over United States and other countries. They are opening up a second restaurant in Skokie next month. Halal guys don't have a huge menu. Their menu is very small and simple. They have Chicken, Gyro, and falafel platter or sandwich. On the platter you can choose two of the items and is served with rice, pita, Lettuce and tomatoes. On the sandwich, you can only choose one item and is served with pita, lettuce and tomatoes. They also sells fries, Hummus, and Baklava. They also sells canned pop for $1.50 I visited Halal guys on May 14th at like 12 in the midnight. The food I got was chicken and gyro platter with white sauce and hot sauce and no salad. The young lady who took my order was very nice, she greeted me when I came in. The food was warm and fresh. The chicken was well cooked and moist, the rice was not over cooked and didn't stick to each other. The white sauce was creamy and flavorful. The hot sauce is extremely spicy, but I like spicy food so I enjoyed it. They make the food in front of you. Portions were big and fills up an adult. The platter was almost $10 but was worth the money. The store is very small and crowded, there is no tables to sit, only one stand up table. My friends and I bought the food and ate in our car. This place is not a good place to eat with your family. There are drug dealers outside the store trying to sell you drugs and crackheads asking for money. This place is located near bars and clubs so, there are a lot of drunk peoples. Also, there is no parking anywhere at any time of the day. I give this restaurant a rating of 4.5/5 stars. This place was introduces to me first by one of my friends who moved to Chicago from New York. There food is amazing and you never get tired of the food. I first thought only middle eastern people eat here and no one else wouldn't like it but, after going there so many time I realized that people from every race enjoy this place. I totally recommend this place if you want to grab something quick if you are in downtown area. read more

Used to work on 52nd and Madison in New York, just a couple blocks from the original stand, and enjoyed a platter every few days because it was right there. However, after moving to Chicago and being deprived, I began craving Halal Guys to the point I would daydream about that white sauce. and my dreams finally became a reality. It's just off the Clark/Division red line, and my mouth started watering because I could smell it as I was approaching the store. Had the combo (chicken and gyro) platter and it tastes even BETTER than NYC. I didn't even know that was possible. The meat was juicy and tender, and the sauces.. I was in white sauce heaven. They have the sauces in the bottles just like the cart, and you can get as much as you want. If you take it to go, they give you the sauce packets which are huge! My friend really enjoyed the sandwich - basically the same taste in a toasty pita wrapper. Service is on point and the line goes by pretty quickly. Today, there was live music as it was the grand opening! I also saw the original NYC owners. Went on Saturday and enjoyed exploring the Farmer's Market right outside. What an awesome perk! terrible food! horrible experience. without wanting to an office colleague brought me a chicken sandwich so i decided to try it since i had the beef last time.. this is the worst chicken sandwich i've ever had. i'm so disappointed in this place and in myself for succumbing to eating this stuff. the sandwich fell apart and the fillings ended up as a ball of mush at the bottom of the aluminium foil. first off: this is not a proper shawirma sandwich.. this is literally dark meat chicken cooked on a flattop with a small amount of spices and without the meat browning (it's simply greyish white in color) then add low grade tomatoes and a white pita and a very watered down white sauce that is easily discerned as part tahini, part garlic part yogurt with some preservatives to maintain it in a very thin pouch. the whole thing is sketchy. then come a hot sauce that is simply toxic in its heat.. it's way tooo hot.. omg too hot.. but not hot in the savory and punchy way tabasco is, or hot in a fresh vegetal capsicomy way jalapenos are hot.. this is like nuclear hot and it kills taste buds and renders the food inedible.. quite a dissapointment.. read more

I am a native New Yorker and I ate from the original cart for years. When I heard that it was opening in my building, you could imagine how much I waited for it! I was one of the first 100 in line during the pre-opening, which wasn't so hard because I live right there. The Chicago version did not disappoint. I know what the food is supposed to taste like and it tasted just like New York except with more options. The fries were good with the white sauce! I read through some of these Yelp reviews and it's just pathetic and hilarious how far competitors would go to put some negative impact on this successful business. I live in the same building as the restaurant and I can vouch that they maintain strict standards with their workers and the food. The workers are friendly, the owners are nice and informative. Sometimes I see people from the New York cart working in the store. Nice touch of home. The Halal Guys is popular for a reason. It's delicious, inexpensive, filling, and addicting. Bottom line. Try it out. If it works for you, great. If it doesn't, move on. But don't make up stuff. Now that's dirty. read more

I heard that this place is exceptionally good so I decided to give it a try even though I'm not a fan of Mediterranean food. The staff was very friendly and the food took me to another planet! I ordered a regular sized platter with chicken and gyros. The gyros were god-like and the chicken was really good but not as amazing as the gyros. The pita bread was also so different from any pita bread I've ever had before....it had this flavor I can't really describe but it was delicious. I wish there was more pita bread given it was so good. They gave a really good portion of food for the price I paid ($8.99 + tax). This was definitely the best food I've had in a while. I come here as often as I can and my experience at this restaurant has been great as always. I know one of the staff members by the name of Asia there who can get your order done very quickly and she is very nice and friendly. Sometimes it can be a rush and she always apologizes for any mistakes or concerns that is going on. Some of the other staff member can be rude at times, but I know this girl makes my experience wonderful. I think it's best for everyone to come at the times she works. I have eaten here plenty of times before and I have never had a problem until now. A couple of Thursday's ago, I placed my usually order at the Gold Coast with the cashier Angela and once I paid for my order, I proceeded to the pick up area and received my food. I never had to check my food before I left The Halal Guys but on that particular day I think I should have. Once I got home and started eating my regular chicken platter I notice a bug in my food. If I could I would rate this place a negative one. Maybe the City of Chicago should shut this dump down. read more

I would give this place a -5 stars but they won't allow me to this place is so disrespectful and racist against African-Americans. It doesn't make any sense. I sent my wife inside to pick up our food and we had hair in it. We brought it back, and yet they refused to give us a refund or remake our food, the manager Alba Castillo is so disrespectful and racist. Chicken Gyro Platters is my all time favorite. You get a bowl of rice on the rice you get chicken, lamb, lettuce, tomato, rice, pita bread and there famous white sauce and hot sauce. You can get all this under $11 It's enough to fill your empty stomach. Make sure you add extra white sauce and less hot sauce because it's really spicy. read more
