The service at this place is poorly run under this covid-19. No one is taking orders just bagging up boxes of food and that lady I don't think she's the manager but she always speaking with a nasty ass tone. Unsure how they think charging extra for something that usually comes included as part or a falafel sandwich will increase customer satisfaction. Pretty good, might not be as good as one in nyc but if you want some chicken and rice, and don't want to travel all the way to nyc then it is definitely worth it. They are open pretty late which is definitely a plus. They do uber-eats so if you can't get to the place or don't have a car, there's always that option. The place is pretty clean and big. Eveytime I order, they skim me in meat!!! They never give me enough meat so it's always more rides then meat. This time they skimmed me on the sauce. I asked for more white square and he gave me two more lines. Now my platter super dry without the sauce. Good but overrated. Meats were cold and hard a couple times I've been there. So is the pita bread. I'd like it if they grilled softened them a bit. Hot Sauce is good and hot. Was there yesterday got a beef gyro sandwich. The meat is chopped up like ground beef, uh oh bad sign. I can see how greasy it is , and his little they put on the sandwich. I could also see the pita was either not fresh or cold because it was ripping when folded.I was never asked if this was for here or to go. I sat down with my to go bag and began to eat. The meat was cold, and salty. The pita was cold. I didn't finish it. Root beer was good though! Finally NJ got the Halal Guys. I am a big fan of NYC halal guys cart. First of all no parking in Newark for this place, you will be lucky to find a street parking. I had Chicken platter - and I felt the quantity was less compared to what you get in City. And the Sauces were way to less. When we asked for extra they charged us for the sauce! Was in the area looking at apartments and figured I drop in for dinner. That was a big mistake. The food lacks flavor and very stingy with the protein. I prefer the Chicken and Rice Guys in Boston. Very disappointing experience compared to the same chain in NYC. The sauce was lacking and I did feel they were stingy about it. They also don't seem to have the lamb that everyone loves from NYC. But every time I've ordered from them it's always been vía uber eats and i literally always end up missing something that I pay extra money for. If you're gonna have uber deliver your food you should also take the effort to make sure the order is complete since I pay for the extra item and the uber on top of that. No brick and morter chain will ever be as good as the OG cart, but this is pretty damn tasty for Newark next to the Rutgers campus. Can't speak to the chicken or lamb, but as a vegetarian, I really appreciated the taste & texture of their falafel. The rice had good flavor and wasn't too dense. I picked up food from there a few months after they opened, and we weren't impressed with our platters. Dry meat and skimpy on portions. But they have greatly improved since then. Our platters on recent orders had generous portions and the meat was moist and delicious. Their falafel platters are addictive! Service is super fast and friendly. We had a great (takeout) dinner here following a Devils game recently. We each got a combo gyro/chicken platter, along with sides of fries and falafel. Everything was really tasty and the portions were generous. I've been to the NYC cart location and didn't taste a difference. The white sauce is incredibly delicious. The red sauce is also good but use it SPARINGLY unless you're OK with a ton of heat. I know the pita is packaged, but that's very good as well. The line was nearly out the door, but the employees got everyone through quickly. Everyone working there was really nice. Pricing is fair. We'll definitely be back! read more

Quick, convenient and friendly staff members! Food quality is not the same as the original flagship location in NYC but it's still pretty good overall. This place opened recently in Newark near my job. The first week the line was NUTS! I knew I had to try it. I went on a rainy, cold Monday and the line was still out the door. It took about 15 minutes as most people seem to order the platter. Since this seemed to be the trend, I played the lemming and got a platter as well. The combo platter comes with beef and chicken, rice, and a salad. It then gets the spicy white sauce which is VERY good. The guys in front of me in line got their food swimming in sauce. I opted for regular with some on the side just in case. All in all it was well worth the wait as the meats were flavorful and the rice was really good. It is kind of pricey, $10-$11 with a drink for lunch. Next time I'll try the gyro, I saw no one getting them, but gotta work my way through the menu! read more

I asked for additional lettuce & tomato as they prepped my chicken platter and they gave me two large white sauce packages at no additional cost. I'd recommend! Regular lunch spot. Yet they still don't have a clue who I am. They run on scripted auto pilot. They'll ask you the same questions every time, but they aren't really listening for the answers, since most customers say the same thing. I tend to order a little different (no white sauce), so they have to awkwardly readjust. Folks seem to have specialized roles, so often there's a lag while someone has to switch over to ring up the order. So a main criticism is to maybe lay off the McDonald's training style a bit. I like the food and portions, which is why I return, despite it being evident that sometimes it's not fresh. But when it's good, it's real good. read more

Usually a regular at this halal guys place but today was my last time here. My husband picked up food to take home and they put the spicy sauce on my platter and my husbands. When I called about it just to let them know about it that I won't be able to eat my platter, not wanting anything, the person on the phone was very rude and said that they never put the spicy sauce on the platter when it is to go and that they always put it on the side, which is not true because they always put it on my husbands platter right then and there. I work in Newark and was originally a little reluctant to wait on line bc of my short lunch break. An employee at the door greeted me and let me know they are serving a platter usually less than a minute on average. I proceeded to wait and was happy I did! I thanked the employee on way out saying it might have even been less. I had the food in ny before and there really isnt anything quite like it considering price, portions, speed, and taste. We are working on this overcast Saturday and we needed a healthier lunch. We went to Seamless and ordered The Halal Guys. I am so glad that I did. First, Seamless said that the order would be delivered in 40 minutes. Let's try 20 minutes. (YAY!) Next, the food was hot (I got a chicken/gyro platter and my husband got a chicken/falafel platter) but not saturated in sauce. We were given plenty white sauce and hot sauce packets on the side. We put on what we liked and dove in. Finally, the meals were tasty. Neither of use could finish the portions we were given and declared that we will be ordering again very soon. When I'm craving platters I want come to Halal Guys, hands down. I'm in the city every other week and when I settle for the platters from the flashing signs on every other street corner I often find myself disappointed from the lack of freshness/cleanliness, or come across a few inedible bits of chicken. Not at Halal Guys. Today the rice was moist, crisp lettuce with fresh tomatoes, and I could actually tell I was eating chicken based on the stringy texture of the bits I had. The falafel I had was a little on the dry side but not worth deducting any points. They even come to your table with white sauce to ask if you need any more! Went there today! I wasn't expecting such nice service. It's an open space type of kitchen where you can see the cooks at work. One of them suggested first timers to get a mix of what they offered, so my friend and I did just that. Ordering a small, everything looked delicious and like I was gonna need a doggie bag. Let me tell you, before you sit down and lie to yourself thinking that its gonna make it home. The food is good; it wont make it home lol Sometimes you forget how good customer service is then you get reminded. Maybe it was just the lady who was there today or it's the culture of the business but I felt like my table was being looked out for, they saw we were running low on sauce and helped us re-up. It felt like the olive garden's traveling grater. Overall, I felt looked out for and accomodated. Word to the wise: I'm someone who adores spicy foods, especially when it enhances the dish, however, I met my match today. The hot sauce is hotter than I expected and the burn made my tongue feel like it had done a million crunches. I don't know if I can handle that again but some people may handle that better.
