This place has been the GOAT for me since 2016, back when they were closed on Sundays and the gyros were 6 dollars. (maybe it was 5?) I remember their anniversary day they gave out free gyros all day. They even used to have these dinners where they would invite customers who posted about gyro king to these giant midnight feasts with the owner. What's wild is we went during non-rush hour and there was still quite a few folks getting food! That white sauce on the rice and chicken? I would compare it to a NY chicken and rice halal cart. I've had this place 3 times, with my third now being the last time. I've liked them mainly because the price is right, it's cheap, and the options you get with toppings. Was it ever 5-STAR? NO! Not ever... But it fit a need two times, and I knew to go in person and ask for the fresh chicken being made in front of me and choose my toppings and get white sauce on the side or honestly none at all. This third time I ordered on DoorDash, and via the app it does not give you an option to ask for fresh chicken and meats, or put white sauce on the side. This was my first time on DoorDash, and never again.... The chicken tasted old, and the beef tikka was horrendous! It tasted so mushy it reminded me of liver... old marinated liver. Everything arrived drenched in white sauce, way too much -- so much it drenched the inside of delivery bag. The result, it made myself and family SICK :( We have been up late dealing with the digestives issues , bloating, and other side effects all night and contemplating urgent care. NEVER NEVER AGAIN... I hate rating places very low or even one-star, but when my family gets sick as a result, then this has to be done to warn others.... I hope other actions won't be necessary. Let this be a lesson.... Poor food quality will always get worse and worse and eventually make someone sick... these are how lawsuits happen... :( read more

Came here in the middle of the day on Sunday. They now are open on Sundays which is nice. When I walked in, it wasn't crowded but as I started to place my order a decent crowd developed. It's a halal spot and I usually go for the combo platter. Got the chicken and gyro combo platter which came with a side of vegetables. They put as much white and hot sauce on as directed. The chicken is nicely seasoned and pairs well with the gyro meat. They give an ample amount of meat and rice. The rice is cooked well and has a good taste. Omgggg stopped by Gyro king the other day with my god father, looking for something Similar to halal guys in the Bloomfield area . It had great reviews on Yelp so I thought I would give it a try . It's located near a parking an convenient parking area just a few meters away. It was only one customer in there at the time ,so this gave me time to glance around and take some clips of the brightly colored restaurant . Once it was my turn I knew I wanted a rice chicken platter with the white and red sauce . My godfather tried the same thing only because at the time it was a 10 min wait for beef . I was happy to see that they sold smoothies so I decided that would by my dessert part of my lunch lol . The staff was super friendly . And the orders were prepared promptly. When I got home I COULD NOT believe how delicious this platter was . The chicken was PACKED with so much flavor! Cumin , turmeric , I'm not exactly sure but this chicken knocked my socks off ! I love this place... i think in my opinion, it's better than the Halal Guy in the city... you see how they cook their meat, how they patiently chop up their gyro meat, and if you order their chicken/beef tikka, the staff will slowly and perfectly grill your meat on this cute little stove... it's like make to order (for that particular one)... portion is pretty big, you can add whatever topping you want: salad, onion, peppers... even sauce, they have regular hot sauce, white sauce (my favorite), bbq sauce... and this super hot sauce which you order by how many lines you want... one is just enough for me, but if you can take some heat... go for 2-3 lines... you will not regrets coming here... and i will come back again!!! :) read more

Oooof best halal food in the area. I've been to plenty of halal spots in my day but I always find myself back at Gyro King in Bloomfield. I always get the mix platter and smother it in white and green sauce (don't worry they're very generous with portions of sauce AND food). They allow you to choose what you want in your salad, the cucumbers, olives and lettuce combo always does it for me. The food is always fresh and ready to order so ordering to go is simple and fast. The white sauce here is a bit sweeter (it's noticeable, but not at all bad) and the standard red sauce is less spicy, but it's definitely comparable. They also have this part of the restaurant where they make smoothies. Yummm and yummeir together... Their chicken is flavourful, moist, and bite-sized pieces easy to eat. Their gyros meat is the same very flavourful and goof to perfection. With their delicious white sauce and green sauce... food becomes more flavourful. If you want spicy or tangy, they have both the sauce. They have many more items on their menu like falafel and chicken kabab, etc. Falafel are made fresh to the order. Love this place. The meats are good, the salad items are diverse and abundant, they have great sauces and the staff are very willing to customize your meal for you with small up charges for extra meats. Since I'm a diabetic, I can ask for very little or no rice, and the selection of veggies are pretty amazing for a halal platter place. They also have fresh grilled chicken and beef "tikka" which looks more like a tandoori but not sure if there is an actual Indian influence here but it looks good and I plan to try it as well as their falafel and kebab. The sauces are really pretty good, they have a decent white sauce and an extra special green cilantro sauce that I love. They also use Olive oil here. You can cut the carbs here entirely or do like I do and ask for a small single spoon like I do and keep the count under 15 grams. Parking and turning north here is a pain, be sure to check the meters and use the u turn 1 block East of broad street to go north from this intersection (it's kind of hidden right after the iHop). Great food, would love to see these guys expand the menu and include more middle eastern flavor items, would love to see Shawarma...I am open to whatever they offer here, quality food and family run business, I wish them well and welcome them to Bloomfield. read more

We both chose to get the lamb platter. There is plenty of food for the price point and boy was it good. It hit the spot because I was starving after not being able to eat dinner till late at night. A real winner! Great combo of delicious + good price. And it was so much food, I just couldn't believe the great price, taste, and quantity. It's the amazing trifecta! The place is pretty no frills, and maybe people heat here at lunch but they automatically bagged my food so I assume most people take it to go. I got the chicken and lamb mix which comes with a little salad. The motto on the menu is "eat healthy live healthy" but they really slather on the white sauce, which seems less healthy but was really delicious. The employees were helpful when I had a couple of questions and were also pretty quick. My only critiques: There's a big menu board passed the order area so you have to go passed the order area and then get back in line, but there are little paper to go menus near the order area you could look at instead. Also, when I went there were a bunch of people there and I was a little unsure if they'd ordered or paid or were waiting. I'd appreciate a "order here" and "pay here" or "pick up here" just may be helpful. Oh and I don't want to be "that guy" but there's a sign saying that orders that are $7 don't include extras but they spelled it "oders." It is impossible to do quantity at quality at these prices, totally get it, but reprint that sign. I can't wait to try the gyros too. The menu isn't extensive, but it does what it does just right. Great place for an inexpensive lunch or dinner! I've had a chicken gyro (it's actually a shawarma) and I've had the lamb platter, and both were great. A small group of us stopped in here last night after the vigil at the Library, and even though it was after 9:30 everything was deliciously fresh. They gave my husband a sample of the falafel and he said it was fantastic. We both had some of our dinners left over and brought them home for today's lunch. There's tables if you're in the mood to stay. Nothing fancy but definitely welcoming. The guys who work there are very nice. FOOD: Chicken, Lamb, & Falafel King's Special ($8): Pretty good. The lamb ended up being my favorite. NY Gyro King is the only place I've been to so far that sells platters where the lamb actually tastes like...surprise--lamb. I thought the chicken was good--it was moist and tender--while the 2 pieces of falafel were just okay. You can add whatever toppings you'd like. The white sauce was alright, but I wasn't a fan of the hot sauce. It's the watery kind and had little to no spice. The other order was the Chicken & Lamb King's Special ($7), which is the same thing as mine but without falafel. Almost everyone in line ordered the Chicken & Lamb, except for a few people who opted for the salad option and one lady that got the gyro that was packed with meat and veggies. Cool place to get halal in Bloomfield. Located on the corner of Bloomfield Ave. and Broad St. Parking is relatively easy to find on Bloomfield Ave., after 6pm when you no longer have to feed the meters. During the day I'd imagine parking can be rough. It's a pretty simple, no frills place that offers platters, sandwiches, and salads. I've been here a few times and I have ordered the same thing, the chicken and rice platter. It's a bargain at $7. The lettuce is fresh, the rice is plain, but seasoned well, and the chicken is flavored nicely. The platter is very simple, but very tasty. It hits the spot if your craving halal. They have a good amount of seating inside of the restaurant. In general, the tables are clean and wiped down.
