I have been to the Hale House several time before. It's a converted home that was previously a chinese restaurant, but completed remodeled after that. It's a small place with seating inside at the bar, or in the dining area. It has a small outside patio, along Forest Home Avenue. Inside there are TVs and video poker games next to the bar (not a fan of those, but they are a "sports" bar). We come here for the food, and not the ambiance. We stopped on a Saturday night for a late dinner. Got a table right away, and the server got us settled in with drinks and waters. The Blackberry Smash was fresh and flavorful, the Riverwest Stein in on tap! We ordered the Cheese Curds to start with. These curds are unique and one of our favorites. It's simply queso cheese that has been deep fried. No batter or breading, just the cheese. We split the Whiskey Burger. They made it perfectly to order, medium rare. It was moist and flavorful. We got the side of Sweet Potato Fries, they were just okay. Either overcooked or reheated, which was a disappointment. The service throughout the evening was exceptional. Always friendly, helpful and attentive. Just the right amount of attention, updating us on our order, checking our first bites, and any extra drinks. Thanks Lauren. We have never gone to The Hale House, but we were in the neighborhood, and some friends said it was worth the visit. The place was quiet because we were their first clients of the day. Open seating and a small bar area seem cozy, though, and inviting for conversations wherever you sit. Very glad we stopped in because everything we got was made to perfection. Burger made medium, true medium, and oh so juicy. The wrap had plenty of meat in it, the fries were golden deliciousness, and the drinks kept coming. The drinks were the perfect accompaniment to the food, and the bartender absolutely knew her stuff when making them. It was so refreshing to make it out somewhere that had everything lined up correctly. No real wait times on the food since we got there right when they opened, and the staff was all extremely friendly and outgoing. I love the explanations they had for specials and the enthusiasm for recommendations that were made. Felt like you were talking with someone you knew for years, and you certainly trusted their knowledge on food and drink topics. We will be stopping back here to try more on the menu. Though we grabbed lunch items, I love breakfast food, and it seems like they have some great menu items I'd love to try.

I ordered fish tacos, my friend ordered steak Tacos, my husband ordered the Cajun burger, and my other friend ordered a Reuben. My fish tacos and my friends steak tacos had no flavor. Very bland. My husband said his burger was good. Do not get the cheese curds, they tasted awful. They have ECTOCOOLER so that's one positive. Our waitress was so sweet not sure what her name was. Overall, I probably won't be back.
This tiny little restaurant certainly exceeded my expectations. Walking in, it's immediately just a tiny local place with the usual machines and diner atmosphere. The service was so fast and so friendly, she definitely made sure we got everything we wanted right away. She knew the specials, and gave plenty of options for what we might like. The list of bloody's was what brought us, closely followed by how good everything on the menu looked. I got the spicy garlic bloody and it was absolutely perfect. The perfect hint of garlic with a decent amount of spice, followed nicely with my chaser of spotted cow. I also got to try a sip of the cucumber bloody and it was so fantastic and refreshing. As for food, my hubby and his cousin both got the corned beef hash and liked it but wished for more has style instead of the meat and potatoes style that it is. I got the farmhouse which was three types of meat with potatoes and covered in sausage gravy. All of our eggs were unfortunately over cooked and all the meat in my breakfast was kind of burned. Flavors though were very good overall. I would definitely come back next time I'm visiting!
Great fish Fry! Nice menu with many great appetizers and dinner selections. Nice selection of specialty drinks and beers on tap. Wonderful service too! Highly recommended!

This was the first time stopping here, it will not be the last. The menu and food are amazing, bang bang shrimp appetizer, perfect! Crab cake sandwich and CBR both worth trying. Nice environment and easy going wait staff, thank you Brian for a good experience.
The food was okay, but very salty. Especially the French onion soup. The steak and bacon wedge salad - the beef didn't taste fresh and tasted and overcooked. Besides this one, it's usually a good experience.
We were greeted and seated immediately even though it was busy. It was dark and loud with the bar atmosphere. The bathrooms were clean. Three of us ordered the steak taco special and it was delicious. One ordered the pretzel Philly sandwich and could only eat half. We ordered the crab dip and Rueben sliders for appetizers. The beers were refreshing. Annalise was our waitress and right away she seemed annoyed with us. I was quite appreciative of London for coming to help. I've been to this establishment twice now and both times the food is far better than average bar food. One person got the French onion soup. Best in the area!
We decided to head over here for an impromptu brunch outing. Three adults and one eight year old. The restaurant isn't huge but had plenty of space inside and a nice small covered patio. We were able to snag a table outside on a really nice Sunday morning, and ordered more beverages than we could hold. Our server was so nice and grabbed coffees, waters and bloody Mary's without batting an eye. The bloody was good, the food portions MASSIVE for the price. I couldn't believe my total was so affordable for what I got. I grabbed a meat lover scramble which was heaping with eggs, gravy, potatoes and everything else. I'll admit I skipped the eggs to get right into the potatoes but I have no shame. Would absolutely go back here.
I'll go anyplace that has French onion soup once...if it's good I'll go back over and over. Here is a place I could do again and again. Portions were large. The cheesecake (not pictured) was about 1/3 of a cheesecake, easily shareable. While it was busy we were still easily able to converse. Service was pleasant, making great reconnections when we had questions. Good spot for good food and drinks.

Service was excellent. Very busy night yet they were very attentive and exceeded expectations! Beer selection also excellent. And the Sriracha Honey and Salmon Salad special was fantastic. Nice lively atmosphere also. First time here, but will definitely be back! read more
The service - inattentive at best. No coffee or water refills offered. Came to our table when we were 75% done to check on us. Lots of chatty time by the other servers and bussers. Should focus more on customers. The food - Potatoes were cold, soggy and unseasoned. The replacements were crisp and hot but still unseasoned and disappointing. They took about 15 minutes to come out so I was already well done eating. The omelette was very good. We used to eat here alot but you've become very inconsistent in food quality. This was the first time we've had bad service. read more

I just never seemed wowed by this place but I know others love it. My most recent visit was St. Patrick's day. We went early enough so it wasn't very busy. They had a burrata eggs Benedict that sounded delicious. I also want to note that there is a whole section of the menu dedicated the eggs Benedict. The server came over several times to apologize for the delay in our food but they could only poach so many eggs at a time. Curious to why you would do a special that has poached eggs and have so many options of egg Benedict's when your kitchen isn't able to handle it? Our food finally arrived and it was fine but the eggs were more fried over easy and not poached. Would I go back? Sure, but not in a hurry. read more
Good spot for brunch/lunch! It is a very small space so on weekends expect a wait. Adjacent parking lot shared with a local church. Walked in around noon on a Sunday & waited about 20 minutes for a table. Ordered a spicy hot Bloody Mary (drank it too fast for a pic), hit the spot! To eat I ordered their daily special which was a beef stroganoff sandwich with a side salad. The sandwich was a nice warm hug! Bread was soft but stood up to the sauce & beef. The side salad is huge with lots of fresh veg. All in all a tasty meal, however the only suggestion would be to put all of the food in the same container. As the pics show, my sandwich was in a large tin all by itself. The salad was on a plate in a boat...on a small 2 top table there was little room for much else. Not a deal breaker just a little crowded. read more

What a great neighborhood spot! Cozy atmosphere, great service, and good food. We were able to relax and enjoy some drinks with families, couples, and solo diners. Everyone was comfortable and having a good time. We started with the cheese curds. Super unique and delicious. They are not breaded and don't need to be! I ordered the chef salad and my husband had the Caesar salad and garlic Parmesan wings. Our waiter, Mike, was excellent. He truly made us feel welcome. We'll be back soon! read more

First time here and can't wait to come back! Stopped in for lunch and had a burger and cheesesteak at our table. Heard the burger was good. I liked my cheesesteak but the cheese sauce didn't have much flavor to it. However, the other toppings were perfect additions and it was plenty of food. Not woo hoo about the fries but might just try the sweet potato waffle fries or chips next time. Our server was friendly and checked in on us plenty. She also kept the refills coming. Try them out if you're in the area! read more
This review is based on 3 things: the arancini, the French onion soup, and the carrot cake. The food items (arancini and French onion soup) were 3/5 together. The arancini was probably closer to 4/5 (it was big, cheesy, and crispy, but the marinara sauce on top was artificial and too sweet). The French onion soup was 2/5 (it was sooooo salty). Lastly, the carrot cake was HUGE and delicious, 5/5. Also, we wanted to order the fried cheese appetizer but they were all out of the cheese. And we had to wait about 20 min to be seated which was less than ideal because they don't have much standing/waiting room in the restaurant. Maybe other things on the menu would have been better, so I would give this place another try. Or if I am craving carrot cake in the future, I know where to find a decent slice and a decent price! read more

I've been to Hale House before and really enjoyed it. This was the first time I did carry out here. They said 30 minutes and suggested that was generous. Instead it took 60 minutes without text or call. So I had to wait there 30 for minutes and ended up spending more on a beer. We are in town for a family function and met some other family members for a dinner, convenient to all out of towners and the local connection. The restaurant was pretty crowded, so that gives the impression of good food, good service or both. We were shown the menus and perused for a while and the waitress brought our drinks and then proceeded to take food orders. I needed further information as to size of bun and quantity of food before I placed my order and she was a bit confused when I asked for the length of the Bun. She stated that is was a hoagie pretzel roll, and not a bun. Ok, what size, I asked and she said regular size. I quizzed her a bit more before ordering the Philly beef sandwich and off she went to others to take there orders and get the kitchen cooking our meals. The food was brought out in due time and all patrons dove into the plates of food. Everyone appeared to enjoy, since the conversation was lessened while chewing took place. We all pretty much cleaned our plates and baskets and I had a small box request to take home the excess that I could not finish eating in one seating. I had off on a recent Friday and was going to be near the south side of Milwaukee, so my immediate thought was to look for a fish fry to try. I had The Hale House bookmarked for various things that looked good, so they were an easy choice. I ordered the The Fish Monger (cod, perch, and bluegill) with potato pancakes, a dozen bone-in wings with half Jamaican jerk rub and half Louisiana rub, and cheese curds. The cheese curds are absolutely fantastic. There didn't seem to be any breading to them, so they're just wall to wall cheese, which makes the fact that they're in a reasonably consistent square shape all the more impressive. The curds were the clear highlight of my meal and I'd happily go back for those. The wings were meh. I thought the Jamaican jerk rub had less heat to it than the Louisiana rub, which was odd because the color coded scale on their website indicates that the Jamaican jerk should have more heat. The wings seemed to have more skin and fat on them than I'm used to or prefer, which was disappointing considering a dozen is $15 as of 12/17/2021. I wouldn't bother ordering them again, but would recommend the Louisiana rub if anyone else is torn between the two flavors. The fish tasted like it was supposed to. The menu states that the Fish Monger combo contains two pieces of each kind of fish, but I received five tiny pieces of perch likely because they were so small. I don't think the potato pancakes stood out as good or bad, which is ok sometimes. I'd rather have a nondescript potato pancake than a bad one. read more
Great beer selection, tasty food, what else do you need? The beer menu had a nice mix of different beer styles and breweries to offer something for everyone and some rarer beers too for those who want something new. The arancini ball appetizer was delicious. You get three and they're slightly bigger than a meatball in size. I had the Hales Corners Farmers Cheesesteak which was overflowing with toppings. This was another bookmark that I had and I figured that I would check them out for lunch. The place has street parking and lot so parking was easy. The place is a bar and restaurant that is on the small side, not very large but not tiny with a small bar and dining room which was pretty full for lunch on a Sunday. You can sample any beer before ordering one which I did the s'mores cheesecake incident cream al that tasted like all cream for the flavor and I passed and ordered a oihf milk stout that I liked way better. I could smell a chard burger in the room while looking at the burger menu but a baked onion soup was on the menu also and I couldn't do both so this was hard but the baked onion soup won. The baked onion soup looked good with two cheeses including Gouda melted down the side. The bread was once dense and dark so it could have been rye. I thought that the broth could have had more flavor but it wasn't salty like some. The onion soup had lots of onions along with the bread and cheese so it had lots of filling which was nice. Overall it's a nice little bar and restaurant and I can see why it was mostly full on my visit. read more

Great experience, my wife had the Irish Eggs Benedict and I grabbed the steak special over potatoes. Even though the steak was small cut I was amazed that it was still tender, cooked perfectly! The amount of food and quality for the price was exceptional. Jeremy at the bar was an ACE, even though he had cronies from the rapport he has established he made us feel like old friends and treated us with the same high level of service.
