WOW, for sure coming back (often). Our Cali girl, loved the sweet servers, outdoor patio, and amazing bites we shared with her, LOL! Thank you Hangry Herd for opening up for lunch on Fridays! You are close to the office, but honestly so good that we will make sure to come by anytime.

Our quest for BBQ over the last few weeks finally took us to Hangry Herd. The interior is not expansive and has the normal tables (high and low) and chairs along with overstuffed chairs and coffee tables (ala Central Perk from Friends). While the coffee shop decor is nice for enjoying a beer, they are not ideal when trying to eat BBQ. You stand in line to order and being crowded, I didn't. My wife did as my bad knees made me find the last free 2-top and await her precession through the line. Another Yelper mentioned a 5% up charge for the kitchen staff as my DW didn't notice. The prices are already at the top for BBQ in Sacto ($29 for a half rack of ribs and two small sides). :-( Speaking of food, the St Louis ribs were not my fav. The rub was good, but they were so overdone that they fell apart if you tried to pick them up, the crust was so crisp they fell apart when trying to cut them. Lastly this had to be the runt of the litter as the bones were about the size of my little pinkie. (see pic). The mac and cheese just OK with the pasta way overcooked and the sauce really loose. The potato salad was good despite being a small portion. Obviously they are setup to sell beer and ordering just a soft drink gets you a can and a small glass half filled with ice cubes. There was self-serve water but for more ice you had to go back and stand in line. :-( The DW's Pulled Pork sando was very good and the side Caesar Salad was large and flavorful. Definitely a do-again.

My husband randomly picked this restaurant and it did not disappoint. You order at the counter and the food is brought out to your table. The restaurant was not full and we waited 15 mins before our food was served. We ordered 2 different platters as pictured below and the meats were juicy and tender. My favorites are the brisket and chicken. They were perfectly seasoned and cooked. We picked 2 sides with each platter and the potato salad stood out. The restaurant has a nice industrial look and has a small private room for parties. This is a solid BBQ place.

All of the different meat types, sides of coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans, and mac and cheese

Good, reasonably priced BBQ is hard to find these days and The Hangry Herd checks all of the boxes. The location is a bit tucked away and there can get to be a line at times so definitely come early to get the meats you want before they sell out. Huge fan of the brisket and tri-tip here, the pulled pork is stellar, the ribs and chicken are also good but not quite stars like the brisket/tri-tip. Mac and cheese and the baked beans are in my opinion the top two sides and the coleslaw and potato salad provide a nice change of pace when you're looking for something more refreshing. The vinegar in the slaw definitely helps cut through some of the fattiness of the meats, especially the brisket and pulled pork. Good selection of beers on tap and a good if not eclectic mix of music playing in the dining area. Will definitely be coming back for more!

After seeing ads on social media to stop by we finally made a trip out. The place is a decent size, with high tops and some couches as well. The line moved decently, but we did notice a lot of people leaving after what looked like placing an order. Upon arriving, they did tell us it was an hour wait (which explains why people may have left after placing an order). We chose to do the larger sampler plate with bbq chicken, tri tip, brisket, and pulled pork. The plate also included options of 3 sides, and rolls. We chose the potato salad, coleslaw and smokey mac n cheese. They also have a nice selection of beers on tap, including the Humboldt Cider Co. I hope to be back soon as I enjoyed the food. I may order ahead online if theres a long wait.

Nice place to go to grab a bite when wanting BBQ. With an assortment of options to choose from, we wanted to try as much as possible so we got the Hangry Sampler. With four meats and the ability to choose three sides, we felt it was a good choice to try that much. Of the four meats, three were solid. The more I had them, the more I enjoyed them. Those first bites were just OK, then I tasted some of the more subtle flavors of the other meat later on. The weakest meat was definitely the chicken. It wasn't very memorable, and had sauce on top. The other three were better. For the sides, we got potato salad, Mac and cheese, coleslaw. While they weren't the stars of the meal, we just thought of them as solid. Nothing to go crazy for, but not offensive. Mac and cheese was interesting and a tiny bit different, and I've definitely had worse renditions of the dish. Potato salad and coleslaw were solid, but similarly, not the most amazing. The sauces we felt didn't do the meat favors, in the sense that they weren't as good as the meat. They were solid at best, but not amazingly mind-blowing. I'd go back if in the area and wanting BBQ. I'd probably try something new like the ribs. They do have self-serve water, plates, napkins, which are a bonus. The seating area isn't the biggest, and this is exaggerated by the space with some interesting decor choices. There is an outside area, but on those hot Sacramento days, didnt look there were fans or cooling apparatus.

We stopped by on a Friday evening an hour before closing! We were bummed that they ran out of ribs but their Tritip and chicken were great alternatives. They were very tender. The smoked Gouda Mac and cheese was a bit too watery for my liking. Overall, great food and great experience.

First time here and they just debuted their new menu today (5/28). We tried the rib and brisket platter, and the tri tip sandwich. The portioning is a really good size, and the meat is so Smokey and tender. The ribs fell off the bone, they were my favorite of what we tried. The Mac and cheese was extra gooey and yummy, also had a great smokey flavor. For their tri tip sandwich, they actually cut the tri tip up into little pieces, it was so much easier to eat than the normal slabs of tri tip you get at bbq spots. The baked beans were the best baked beans I've ever had, they had shredded pork pieces in it, just so tasty. They are definitely comparably to urban roots, which is our normal go-to for bbq. The service was great, everyone was very friendly. The only thing I'd change here is the add cornbread to the menu! We sadly did not get to try their peach cobbler and ice cream but when I return I definitely will!

So I have been following The Hangry Herd since they opened and finally got to try them today. The place is cozy inside with sofas and chairs mixed with tables and barstools. You order at the counter and your food is brought out to you. We had the Sampler which includes moist chicken breast, fall apart brisket, lean tri-tip and semi dry pulled pork. We had coleslaw, mac and potato salad as our sides. The food was good. Now this is where the problem starts the platter is $75. We had a delicious hard cider for $8. So before tax which is 8% our meal was $83. So why was my bill $97.12 ? I had to call and find out. Hangry Herd charges 2.5% credit card fee and 5% to help pay the staff ! If a business needs more revenue just raise your prices! To me all the extra fees without disclosure is FRAUD. Will not recommend or return. I take my reviews seriously so I will respond to Hangry Herds comments. 1) 2.5 % credit fees most places post a small notice at the card terminal. Nothing at HH. 2) 5% fee for competitive wages. There was no screen for me to see what I was being charged or at least it was not shown to me. My interaction with the cashier was this " sampler platter and a cider". Cashier " that comes to $97.12". After paying the cashier asked if I wanted a receipt. At no point was the fee ever disclosed. Furthermore if you look at the photo of the menu board taken at 2x zoom the fee is barely visible from where a customer would be standing. 3) Tipping, you don't have wait staff, who would think of tipping ? I wasn't asked to sign a receipt so how would this even come into play ? Drinks and ordering are self service. The tables in the patio were not even clean with BBQ sauce and food crumbs on them. Simple solution is to raise your prices nobody cares if the Sampler is $75 or $79!

So was hunger was knocking and I chose to answer with Hangry Herd. The service was great. I had ribs, brisket, potato salad, regular mac&cheese, and the brisket mac&cheese. So the ribs and brisket were tender. Had a light seasoning but the BBQ sauce on the side more than made up for that. It truly enhanced the flavor. The mac&cheese was good. The portion was almost criminally small. But hey pther than that a solid meal. Will definitely return.

Came in craving some good BBQ and found this spot on Yelp--glad we did! They were sold out of almost everything when we got there--only had brisket and pulled pork left (which basically told me we showed up late to a party everyone else already crushed ). Honestly though, that's a good sign the food is legit. Even with just those options, they absolutely delivered. The brisket and pulled pork were both on point--super flavorful, tender, and didn't last long on the plate. Also have to give a shoutout to the coleslaw--it was AMAZING. Fresh, crisp, and the perfect balance to go with the meat. Lesson learned: show up earlier... or be prepared to fight for the last bites next time Definitely coming back!

If you're craving solid barbecue in a welcoming setting, this local spot absolutely delivers. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between cozy and polished, with warm lighting, sturdy wooden tables, and comfortable seating that makes you want to linger. It feels thoughtfully put together without losing that relaxed, down-home BBQ charm. The food is the real star. The shredded pork sandwich was tender, juicy, and packed with smoky flavor, while the tri-tip sandwich was equally impressive -- perfectly cooked, flavorful, and piled generously on fresh bread. If you're trying to decide what to order, go straight for one of the platters that offer multiple meats. It's the best way to sample the range, and you won't regret having a little bit of everything. The staff were genuinely kind and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. The only disappointment? They ran out of ribs -- which honestly feels like a backhanded compliment, since it probably means they're that good. Still, I'll definitely be back (earlier next time) to snag a rack before they sell out.

My husband and I bought the 4 meat sampler with 3 large sides for four people. Cost, with tax around $80 and we tipped, which was closer to the $90 mark! Their "large" side feeds up to 2 people, barely. The sides we chose were potato salad, baked beans, smoked mac n cheese. Potato salad - taste store bought; definitely not homemade. Not a fan. Baked beans - okay. Smoked mac n cheese - not at all smoky, lacks flavor and too soupy. This and the potato salad were my least favorite. The meat selections were brisket, tri-tip, chicken, and pulled pork. Brisket- nice and tender; not smoky Tri-tip - chewy; not smoky; flavor much to be desired Pulled pork - minced; not smoky; flavor much to be desired Chicken- taste boiled; not smoky; no flavor Not the BBQ place for us. Everyone's taste desires are different. You be the judge .

If you cannot resolve a problem, or if it is an ongoing issue, you should escalate it to someone with the expertise and authority to address consumer concerns. If you're not online, this place would go unnoticed but shoutout to the birthday boy, my friend, as he has been here before and talked about it a lot. The wait is over and I must say I've been missing out. Hidden from street view, this spot has a great outdoor patio space. Skeptical we had a table there because we were eating during peak triple digit heat, but the space had everything to ensure guests were comfortable. Ceiling fans that actually work and water misters that didn't leave a wet mess. Incomes the drinks and food. Happy hour always makes me happy. Snagged a lager and brisket tacos. One could say it looks basic and nothing special but boy is it flavorful. Decently sized chunks of brisket. Nothing melt in your mouth but had that softness that made it easy to chew. The pairing of the sauce was nice to balance out the saltiness of the meat. Grab them tissues cause it's a juicy one. A bit pricey, $12 for 2 tacos but def a nice splurge. Down to business. Burger choice for my first visit, definitely not the last, was The Peach Pit - that double patty, rosemary aioli, bacon crumbles, Swiss cheese, spinach, and our house made peach chutney, served on a toasted brioche bun. Solid choice. The beef was juicy, cooked to my liking (surprised they didn't ask how we liked ours cooked). The cross section of the burger is elite. Layers of ingredients adding to the flavors of each bite. I'm a sucker for Tabasco sauce so I couldn't really taste the peach chutney, but I do remember what I believe was a peach slice fall out of the burger. 10/10 would recommend. Just be prepared to use the napkins. It's a sauce/juicy one. Fries were standard. Crisp, fresh. My friends ordered other burgers that looked good. I was able to try some of the garlic fries and pesto sauce. Rich and tasty. Trust. I will be back for their burgers sooner than later. Who is with me? Let's gooooo!
