The harp is definitely an institution in Costa Mesa. I mean I cannot tell you how many times I have been here. Long before Yelp was even a thing, and long before the internet really was put into the hands of the cow in person, this was the hub. This is where you went to meet people, exchange ideas, have conversation and more. The harp is really an institution in Orange county. And not just because it has longevity, there's a reason that it has sustained power. This place is probably one of the most authentic Irish pubs I've been to. Having been to Ireland. I can attest that this is right there with a standard pub in a small town. Which makes it wonderful. The people that run the place, especially Paul, is one of the reasons why I keep coming back here. He's personable, funny, and no-nonsense right. I like his way of thinking and his approach to customer service a second to none. Now let's talk about the food and drinks. From a drink standpoint. You cannot go wrong with this place, the drinks are thoughtfully made, this guy knows how to pour a beer. As far as food goes. I highly recommend the beefeater sandwich, and you cannot go wrong with the chicken wings. Some of the best wings I've had ever. Friday and Saturday nights is usually popping pretty hard when they have bands playing. So, good luck trying to find a seat anywhere in the place. When there is an event that night. You will have to get there early for sure. The bottom line? This is a go-to hangout. If you are looking for a good watering hole to meet people, just hang out and have a good time, or watch a game on the big screen TVs. I would have given a 3 but the decor was appropriate. We happen to come on karaoke night. My wife wanted to try it because it looked authentic from the outside and she was craving the Irish bars we were in in Ireland last summer. Loud hip hop and younger adults, mostly screaming girls. We visited the harp over the weekend and were pleasantly surprised of how nice this place still is. They always have great rock music. You're always close to the action and dancing is right in front of the band. The side door is open if you need to get out and get a breath of fresh air. The bar is off to the side, but you can still see the band. The food here is great. The drink drinks are always good and the bartender seems to be a really cool guy. If you're looking for a good place to catch some live music that's always good. Give this place a try Friday night and Saturday night is great. read more

Dropped in to get an order of some fries.. waitress was amazingly friendly... i had a reciept in my hand And waiting for my to go fries.. i didnt want to litter so i asked the bartender (older man in his 60's with an english accent) it he had a trash can and assumingly if he can throw it away since i didnt see a trash can... Parking is a little tight! And the bar gets so full ! Come early ! The fans here are amazing, the energy the bar brings out is so fun! I rarely leave reviews, but I had to share this experience. I was there during the World Cup and the place was packed -- completely understandable. A man near me was blocking the view for several people around him, and another guest (very politely, even offering him a beer) asked if he'd move. He refused. That guest then mentioned it to a waitress, and instead of addressing the situation reasonably, she came over and scolded him -- telling him "you don't talk to people like that," without ever asking what actually happened or hearing his side. Several of us thanked him afterward for speaking up, since he'd voiced what everyone nearby was thinking. The waitress was EXTREMELY RUDE. When I mentioned to the waitress that her response seemed unfair and extremely rude the was she talked to the guest, she was dismissive and told me the other man was a regular, so she didn't care about the actual situation. A young woman with dark hair -- by far the rudest service I've experienced at a bar. Playing favorites with regulars at the expense of other paying customers isn't a great look, especially during a packed event when good service matters most. I will unfortunately not be coming back here after the way I and others were treated. read more

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Great place to whoop it up on St Paddy's Day. I've only ever been here on St. Paddy's day to meet up with some OC friends, and it's becoming a tradition. As such, it's a great place to hang on that holiday--they really do it up right: friendly servers, music, special food, and merriment all around. I went on St. Patrick's day 2026 it is a gringo bar. The racist bartender. Took the order from a white gentlemen behind me. He helped another person behind. He walked to the side and handed them there drinks. He gave us HOT non-alcoholic beers. I found my friends at the corner of the bar by the door. I kept trying to get the attention of the chubby female bartender. She walked away from my side of the bar and continued to ignore me. My friends are Latina's with blonde hair. The food was good, not a huge selection but they do some staple items really well. Nice side salad instead of fries. Early dinner/late lunch nearly empty so easy for seating. Have out door seating so May be dog friendly on the outside patio area. Every bit of an Irish pub and they have bands on the weekends. Comfy booths and round top tables. Average table is a 4 top or 6 top. Staff was very nice, she was friendly and her service was great. She checked in on us a few times. I've been coming here for years, mostly to hear live music. It's a Irish bar with a decent sized dance floor. They have a large array of live music, Friday and Saturday nights. Depending on the band, it can get packed. They do charge cover for certain bands. It's a great place to hear budding bands- ( Tijuana Dogs used to play here many years ago before they became super popular.) Their food is bar food. Most of the food is 3 stars, it's served hot and with decent portions. I come here to listen to live music. I know they have a large turn out for soccer and football games. We were here recently to hear the SlimTones Band play Blues and Rock'n'roll tunes and were not disappointed. This restaurant/bar is a fun lively place to listen to good music and eat good food. The staff is friendly, and service is fairly quick even in a large crowd. As far as the fish n chips go, the chef needs to add a bit more seasoning to the fish. I found it too bland and very little seasoning especially salt. Next time I will try the burger plate. read more

I love the Monday comedy night, Evan Cassidy runs a fantastic show and books great local talent/popular touring comedians from LA. It's truly a wonderful showcase that's been around for almost a decade, I've been a regular attendant at this show for almost 6 years. I went in with my son tonight to watch the UCI NIT championship game and the Laker game. We had the wings, they're consistently the best wings in Costa Mesa! The Harp Inn is seriously the BEST Irish Pub in Southern California... The pint of Guinness here, is consistently as good as the fresh Guinness I've had at the Guinness Brewery in Dublin, Ireland... While traveling in Ireland, in a conversation with a local, I asked if he'd ever been to the States..He told me he'd been to the Southern California area on business...that lead to me asking what he considered to be the most authentic Irish pub in SoCal....He thought for a bit, then said a pub called The Harp in Orange County... Besides the Guinness being tops, the food is excellent! Unique dishes, such as the corned beef tacos, or Irish potato nachos are most tasty, especially with a pint or three... ;) I think a big part of the Harp's success is the owner, John Joe. An Irishman hailing from County Mayo, Ireland, he's turned The Harp into one of the premier pubs in the Costa Mesa/Newport Beach area, even with nightly entertainment/local bands....We drive from the San Diego area, and are always greeted with the best Irish hospitality by John Joe, as he opens the pub daily... I really hope what happened tonight is NOT something new... Been coming here off and on for 20+ years. Has always been a cool spot with some decent entertainment. Service has always been great. And tonight the service of my server was great, especially given the fact that she was put in a very tough situation. But to my greater point... my corned beef sandwich was nothing more than a wad of rubber bands between two slices of rye bread. This thing was close to inedible and was absolutely un-chewable. Please change your menu to read "Tendons and Sinew Sandwich." It would really alleviate a lot of confusion and disappointment. Along these same lines, please reduce the price from $17 to something around $1.25 as you are serving parts of the cow that usually end up ground up by heavy machinery to be put into off-brand hotdogs and tire tread. At least hotdogs can be chewed. read more

There were heaters for the cold weather. Plenty of parking! There is a nice stage for karaoke and maybe a live band. Plenty of seats and booths. The bar is u shaped so u can sit around it. The drinks are plenty and reasonable. The best part of this bar is open Mic on Tuesdays. Such great comedy goes all night from 7 to closing.
