This morning, we had breakfast at Malarkys. The service is undoubtedly the most commendable aspect of the establishment. The staff is attentive from the moment you enter, and this morning was particularly busy with limited table availability. Despite this, they promptly acknowledged our presence and exhibited exceptional friendliness and assistance. During the order taking process, they continued to provide helpful guidance. Although the tables were packed I think the ambiance was acceptable. The noise level remained low and the service was swift and quiet. The menu had everything we would want. We had the chicken-friend steak and eggs and briskets and gravy. Eggs were cooked excellently, biscuits were also excellent. Here are my suggestions. Chicken-fried steak - this item tastes and feels like frozen steak pre-breaded and fried - tossed in the microwave and covered with white cream gravy. This item needs to be raised to the level of freshly fried and not in seed oil but in avocado or coconut oil (both are high temp and non-toxic) The gravy is white cream and flavorless - it needs to receive the "drippings" from the fried steak, sausages, or bacon to produce brown gravy with some flavor. This establishment does not have espresso - every other breakfast place in OC does - Breakfast Republic, Poached Kitchen, Cracked Egg, etc. Servers can make good espresso if the espresso machine is automatic like a Jura with two bean trays and a milk reservoir. This is a profit center and most places have a dedicated person who continuously make espresso drinks. read more

The last time I came here was during the Qatar World Cup. Four years later, the atmosphere is still amazing and the place was packed with fans. Even though it was very busy, the service was still great. The staff kept checking on us to see if we needed anything, and the food came out pretty quickly considering how crowded it was. If you're looking for a fun place to watch the World Cup with great energy and solid service, this is definitely a spot worth coming back to. read more

We came by this morning to watch the FIFA World Cup game between Brazil and Japan. Plenty of TVs and plenty of seats. We ordered: 1) Burger combo - it's a Monday special for $9, for cheeseburger and 1 side item, which I got the sweet potato fries 2) pozookie cookie and ice cream dessert - this was actually good, nice portions size $8 3) Buffalo wings $12 - comes with blue cheese dip and was tasty 4) steak and eggs breakfast - husband liked this! 5) deviled eggs 6 pcs $10 - pretty good Free parking next door in the lot. read more

The patio is a great spot for summer happy hour. Our servers were very friendly and attentive this go around, checking in regularly. The service is quick as well. The margarita is ok, not amazing. The food is Defitnely premade Sysco items they just throw in a fryer. Mid quality wings and tenders but at a decent price. And the sauces saved them. Came in on Tuesday for their Prime Rib dinner special. I can't believe I forgot how good it really is! The cut was perfectly cooked medium rare with a side of horseradish and Aujus with a side of steamed veggies and a loaded baked potato. You also get a side salad with dressing of choice. It is the best Prime rib deal in SoCal with no competitors for a price of $21!!!!!! The wife and my buddy ordered the same thing and they also agreed it was awesome. Our server was a sweetheart and was always checking on us to ensure we had everything we needed. Great location on the peninsula with plenty to do walking distance. I had to ask around for these names! Disgusting service and I felt unsafe Came in around afternoon. Now I'm throwing up and re thinking the food I ate and drank. This gentleman and women. I had to ask around for their names. Jenna/gena & Jordan. Lady was outright rude and disgusting. She gave a group of her own friend a discount and she didn't even buy anything. How come my friend who works here doesn't give me a discount? Found her social media which encourages me to not come back to support this business. Lady flipped us off, she was off the clock I can tell. I tried approaching her just isn't professional. The unprofessional worker mentioned she can not get fired as she's off the clock. Reviews state "best service" but I'd recommend giving this business a call to ensure you'll get the right service in Newport. I'm not sure if this worker was drunk or having a bad day. The gentlemen was plain out dumb. He has a customer service voice that annoys me so much and my group had to find another Pub to go to. I wasn't bothered at first but we saw him picking his nose. He didn't wash his hands and started contaminating the silverware. Where is health inspection!?!. My family & I will be looking elsewhere. I would not recommend hiring young adolescents. Malarkys has been a staple in Newport for a very long time. The food and location are amazing. The cooks really know what they are doing here. They even added an extra seating area recently and it's stunning. The parking can be quite tricky but not too bad. I highly recommend coming for brunch or lunch because the food is what keeps this place going. The staff is a little salty and not easy to order from, which makes it difficult to feel welcomed at times. I'm not speaking from a visitor but as a local who has lived here my whole life. I can only review on their takeout service: Five stars for the food!!! Quick service too. Overall experience is just that you'll have great food, but maybe not always a welcomed greeting or the friendliest setting. Also, check for your garnish or extra butter requests, as I have had to remind them for our takeout order requests even though we tip on takeout everytime. They've seriously got some of the best pub food and breakfasts. Been enjoying their fish and chips, and their breakfast here the past few weeks. Not the friendliest staff I've noticed- but maybe it's because it's takeout and it's probably just the bar ambiance. Food won't disappoint though from my experience. Always a go-to when we don't mind the 30-mile drive. Service by Ashley is always excellent, even when she is short-handed and the place is busy. Nice that they have Guinness, Harp and Smithwick on tap.The Prime Rib French Dip is a wife fave. The burgers are big and excellent. Have yet to try the fish and chips but we know the chips are good and the fish is cold water cod. I have been going to Malarky's since the early 80s and the vibe is still locals hang, almost but not quite dive bar. The food is too good for that designation. The service and food exceeded our expectations. We stopped in for lunch. My husband ordered a beer and the shepherd's pie. The waitress was super friendly and helped him select the brew. The pie was well prepared with a wonderful savory filling and fluffy mashed potatoes. I had the fish and chips. The fish was so good with a perfect light breading, I ate more than I should have. I found it very underwhelming for the price. The meat was originally overcooked, but that was corrected. The meat had zero flavor though. I also didn't love that I was charged an extra $3 for the baked potato when the waitress didn't say that when she asked. Maybe I missed that on the menu. Great Pub!!! Not only was the food delicious, but the service incredible. I am sitting at the bar right now. I had two Miller Lights and Irish Stew. Wasn't starving, yet the stew was to die for. Then I sit and watch the bartender totally satisfy a customer. It was minor, she made a Bloody Mary with the mix. I was super excited to try out the newly remodeled Malarkys patio for the start of the NFL season! It had a great energy and tons of tvs playing all the games. The food was great and they had a large menu to select from. Only thing is I think they weren't prepared for how crowded the patio was going to be so service was slower than normal and had to constantly flag down servers when we needed something. What can I say, I'm in love with this place! Came to meet friends for football and met some great new people, ate some good food and maybe was a little disappointed in some of my games lol. They have a huge square bar with lots of space and lots of TVs for viewing. A great menu with just about anything you could want Irish and otherwise. Our bartender, Baily was the sweetest, and Gavin wasn't bad either, haha. We had a French dip with fries and a pastrami with onion rings and some chili. I'll blame the fact that I won't go to beach areas between Memorial Day and Labor Day and I sure wouldn't go to an Irish pub on St. Patrick's Day. Well I ended up here with friends and was pleasantly surprised. The food is solid pub grub at very reasonable prices. The draft beer selection is very good and also very reasonably priced.
