    Fried chicken sandwich
    Sera G.

I just had to update my review..... Was delighted to see Harp still open after all the Covid shutdowns and business closures. Stopped in a couple times for a quick dinner. I came home from spending more than a week down south eating all the best soul food, but I have to say, I just had the absolute BEST fried chicken sandwich at The Harp on Church. Best fried chicken sandwich I've ever had IN MY LIFE, and I consider myself a soul food connoisseur. Unbelievable! Somebody keep me away from this joint, or I'll never eat anywhere again!

Some friends and I snagged a primetime dinner in the nice table by the window on a Saturday, and we felt like we struck the jackpot! Literally every other table seemed to be full, and we were hungry! Our waitress was attentive and was somehow able to still manage all the other crazy tables. The Asian chicken poppers ($12-ish) were surprisingly super satisfying. There were a ton that came on the plate, and the sauce on top was sweet without being too gooey. I loved the pickled cucumber that also came with the dish. I got the good ol' Harp Burger as my main. It was cooked just as I requested, and the bacon, caramelized onions, and bacon were amazing. If you can believe it, this burger wasn't particularly messy, and yet all the ingredients did fit in the bun. A feat! Harp catered to an older crowd - at least on this night - and it felt super local. This was a great bar dining experience!

Onion Soup Gratinee was delicious, sweet, and filling!

Onion Soup Gratinee was awesome and the men loved the Irish Stew. Another Yelp win! Surprised my local 90 year old uncle with this gem in his town!! We'll be back whenever we visit, and he'll be back a lot before then!!

Flanagan's. (2.9 stars)…read more "And before you know just where you are, you're in an Irish pub!" - The High Kings (Irish Pub Song) After a month of eating here, I can honestly say I come here for the convenience & the people. I think I have tried virtually everything on the menu & while most aren't great, it's not the worst. I will review the following: -Black Forest Pasta -Create Your Own Burger -Shaved Prime Rib Sandwich -Boneless Braised Short Ribs -Chicken Parmesan Black Forest Pasta. (3.5 stars). Probably the best thing on the menu. It is cooked in a spicy Cajun cream sauce with blackened chicken, sausage, & spinach. I found that ordering this dish with shrimp is much better. The shrimps were deveined which was nice albeit frozen shrimps. What I like about this dish is that it is hearty & spicy. The fettuccini is cooked al dente & the dish comes with 3 pieces of grilled garlic bread. The garlic bread isn't very "garlicky" so I can't say I would ask for more... CYOB. (3 stars). I ordered a bacon jalapeño burger. The burger patty was generous & cooked to my liking (medium-rare). The jalapeños are canned which makes them unpleasant for me. The cheese was nice & MELTY. The bacon was crispy which is what made this burger A-OK. Flanagan's French Fries are surprisingly tasty & double fried for that extra crunch. Shaved Prime Rib Sandwich. (2 stars). First off, the Prime Rib is NOT SHAVED! I was envisioning a thin deli sliced Prime Rib with the fixings but what I got was far from that. Big thick slices of overly cooked "Prime Rib" were thrown into a hoagie bun which was baked with cheese. Extremely oily & definitely not something I would order again. I asked for the Au Jus on the side which was tasty but didn't help the dry meat very much. I also asked for the horseradish sauce but somehow never received it... Boneless Braised Short Ribs. (2.5 stars). When I heard all my co-workers raving about this weekly special I figured it must be amazing since they ordered 2 each?! I was excited to try it but my excitement was short lived. When I received this dish I thought it looked a tad bit dry but proceeded to dive in. The sauce really had no extra seasoning to help this poor slab of beef. The meat was a bit dry & reminded me of a soft beef jerky. The mashed potatoes were the best part of this dish. It wasn't the worst meal I have had but it definitely isn't a dish I would write home about. Chicken Parmesan. (3.5 stars). The MELTY cheese definitely hit the spot! The chicken was breaded & fried up nicely. The fettuccini was a tad bit over cooked but I would order this dish again. I'm starting to realize that the pasta dishes are the best choice here. --- All in all, a friendly place to come & grab some drinks. Flanagan's is a typical New England pub with bar food that caters to the locals. It's an average place as far as the food is concerned but the service here is always friendly! Whenever I walk in I am greeted with a friendly smile & a menu. The people who work here are amazing & always helpful. There is a HH which is from 1600-1800 when free appetizers are served (usually pizza & pasta). Drinks are at a discounted price during HH (a few cents cheaper?). Parking is available on-site in a private parking lot. Flanagan's is located in the lobby of the Best Western Olympic Inn in Groton CT.

The hostess, who was on was very new, and I don't think she fully understood what I was asking. She ended up telling me that, Yes it was a normal beef Wellington. Cool, so excited, don't see those often. We get there, I order it because I already asked for clarification and didn't think I'd need to ask a second time. As we were waiting for our food, I saw some dishes come out from the table across from us and the waitress said, "Here is your beef Wellington". I realized that it was a concept of beef Wellington, but not a traditional beef Wellington, which is what I'd been worried about. We hadn't seen our server in a while so I went over to the bar and let them know that I wanted to cancel my order because it just wasn't what I wanted and the price tag was $60. I've been willing to pay that if it was what I had my heart set on, but it wasn't. They said they would cancel it. In a little bit, someone then came over, not our waitress, to tell me that I will be charged half of the price of the beef Wellington because I canceled it and it was already made. And of course, I was not OK with that. I once again explained to them that I had called and asked if it was a traditional beef Wellington and was told that yes it was. They said that the hosts are not trained on the menu so they cannot answer questions on them. I then asked what is the point of having someone who is untrained on the menu answer your phones because sometimes people are going to ask questions before they choose to come to a restaurant. I refused to pay the $30, she stated she would have to call the manager back because the manager was not on premises that day and see what she could do. In the meantime, they brought out the beef Wellington that they made and tried to entice me to eat it and I of course said no thank you. Finally, they told me I didn't have to pay. I ordered the stew appetizer. It was very small but tasty, and I was pretty hungry at that point so I'm glad I ordered it. Not sure I'd try this place again, but maybe if I lived closer. Not having a manager on premises really made it tough, it was a massive waiting game to get an answer, and I've never heard of a place blame the customer for their knowledge gaps. I definitely will not be going out of my way to come here again.

This isn't your typical dab of cheese in a plastic condiment container that is commonplace nowadays. I had the Arturo Sandoval (spin on a Cuban) as my entree and it was also fabulous and came out hot. If I was being critical, the pork was a wee bit dry, but that happens sometimes and it really didn't take away from the sando. Even the small side of pasta salad was outstanding. I'm lucky if I eat sides like that 1/100 times and this one I couldn't wait to finish. Great vibe, great staff, great food, and live music almost every day. Then we ordered a Farmer's salad with blackened chicken and the Bangers and mash. The food came out maybe 25-30 minutes later, oh and worth the wait! Because the blackened chicken was piping hot, I wish it had been slightly to the side of the spring mix lettuce so that the salad would be a bit crisper but the flavors were wonderful. It came with a balsamic vinaigrette. My husband's Bangers and Mash included garlicky mashed potatoes, a rich thick mushroom gravy, and flavorful sausages, all on a bed of vegetables.
