One of the awesome drink selections.

Great service, good food, nice atmosphere, a great place to go. Dee is great, treats you like family. Greg is awesome too. If you stay at the hotel, they give you 25.00 a day to spend on anything here! Great deal. Cannot be beaten.

Restaurant is part of a hotel. Seems to be centered around the bar. I got the Grilled Salmon, it wasn't bad but not great. A little dry and kinda chewy. The seasonal vegetables consisted solely of broccoli.

Greek salad with chicken and shrimp.

Cold New England clam chowder. Slow service. Forgotten items. Out of stock on Spring rolls. It's 2:30pm and not very busy. Disappointed.

It was a good place to have a beer after work at the Sub Base because it is right down the road. With some good company you can't go wrong.

Great play money, great service, try the wings, free Travis! If you are staying at a dirty hotel you won't find a better restaurant.

First and foremost, **David was an absolute superstar of a server.** He was incredibly attentive, professional, and so genuinely friendly--even while dealing with my crazy 2-year-old, which is no easy feat! On top of the top-notch service, **the food was so much better than before.** Whatever changes have been made in the kitchen recently are definitely working, because every dish was spot-on. Between David's amazing hospitality and the massive step up in food quality, this was easily our best visit yet. We will absolutely be back!

TO BE FAIR THE WINGS WERE FIRE And I WENT ON A MONDAY…read more I'm giving this place 3/5 stars because the food was great, the hostess was extremely attentive but I simply did not get the full experience of the location due to the time and day. Therefore, I will need to revisit to give a better review. I visited The Blue Duck this past Monday, on Presidents' Day at happy hour. I got there around 3 and left just before 5. The wings were 5 for a little over $5 or something like that. Which honestly $1 wing in this economy! Excellent for my pockets. Anyways, the place was quiet, a few people did start coming in as I was leaving, and again, I came on a Monday. Not really a peak bar day. But I would say the location is near the water which is a plus. The seating area at the bar was massive. I'm curious to see how busy it gets on the weekend. This isn't necessarily and instagramable/ social media picturesque kind of spot. Ok, so the wings- I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH- they were AMAZING . I love it when the skin after being smothered in sauce is still crispy. And they were! The blue cheese wasn't liquidity or too chunky. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The best part- for me- is that they were the shoestring kind of fries. I'm not big on the steak fries or thicker cuts. They were salted just right! No condiments needed for dipping. I ordered two drinks, which I honestly wasn't too impressed by. But it's my bad. I probably should have stuck to shots or basics like A sour of some sort. Idk. The other drinks could be delicious. Overall the only reason at this point that I'm coming back is the wings. Truthfully, the only reason I traveled 45 minutes to New London was after seeing an IG post about all-you-can-eat wings on Mondays. Sadly they aren't doing that anymore.

Really promising in terms of decor, but a big let down for the food…read more The $8 charge in chicken was ridiculously high, moving a platter of nachos from $15 to $23, for chicken that is not particularly flavorful nor plentiful. We got a platter of nachos and the only exciting thing was the sheer size of it: one platter served five people, with some more to spare. The nachos were dry, flavorless, and was almost like dipping chips into a generic grocery store queso. All the vegetables were raw, so it didn't add much to the dish. I'd recommend really seasoning at least one element of the tray, like the vegetables, and it would have been decent. The Nashville fried chicken sandwich was spicy without flavor. Another massive portion size with plenty of fries, but nothing I would order again. Sweet Thai chili sauce that came with the Brussels sprouts had the texture of wet corn starch that had been mixed in with a bottled chili sauce--gloopy and oddly too sweet.

Half-Keg Tavern

Half Keg Tavern is a historic neighborhood tavern that opened in New London, Connecticut in 1946…read more The tavern is housed inside a converted Quonset hut, which was likely picked up cheaply at the conclusion of World War II. The Half Keg stands out from other Connecticut drinking establishments in that it is technically a tavern as opposed to a bar. What's the difference? Bars can serve just about anything (including hard liquor), whereas taverns (once known as "public houses" back when residents were still British subjects) are places that can serve only beer, wine, cider, and food if they choose. At the time the Half Keg opened, there were maybe 700 taverns in Connecticut. Today, less than 10 Connecticut drinking establishments operate under a tavern license. A number of different owners have come and gone at the Half Keg, including longtime owners Ron & Maryann DiNoto. Since October 2016, the Half Keg has been owned and operated by Teresa Stomberg and her son David Donatello. The tavern serves a variety of domestic and foreign beer as well as a food menu of fresh handcrafted burgers, grinders, and a variety of bar bites. I recently visited the Half Keg for lunch while I was in the New London area. I arrived not long after they opened for the day. I pulled up a seat at the bar and began to peruse the menu. I first ordered a plate of "Fried Pickles", which were on the specials menu that day. Served with a dipping sauce, they were hot, crispy and very flavorful. I washed them down with a draught pour of Samuel Adams' "Summer Ale". Afterwards, I ordered a "Garlic & Onion Burger" (garlic & onion seasoned burger on a a garlic-buttered roll, slice of raw onion, lettuce, tomato) with a side of "Hand Cut Seasoned Fries". Don't expect anything particularly fancy here. It's just good, old-fashioned home cooking. No frills, no fuss; just fresh ingredients and good flavor! I washed my burger and fries down with a draught pour of Two Roads Brewing's "Two Juicy" (Double New England IPA). That lunch really hit the spot. I'd be interested in trying out one of their grinders on a return trip. If you're in the mood for a good sports game paired with a cold beer, good food, and the company of friendly locals, then head to the Half Keg!

Atmosphere was buzzing and people were enjoying conversations over beer at the counter and tables…read more Group of 3 friends, we went for dinner. Deep sighs from lady at counter clearly irritated at our question if there were any sandwiches or handhelds as she flung her hand up at the screen. Apologized and said we'd seen them listed on the website. Not a great welcome. Ordered at the counter and handed a buzzer. We all ordered ourselves. Collectively - two pizzas, three orders of wings, and a Ceasar salad. We also went to the bar to get drinks. Then we got our own paper plates, napkins, and plasticware. Buzzer went off for one of us about ten minutes later. Pizza. Then 5 minutes later, another's. Wings. Not one person's whole order, but piecemeal. We made SIX separate trips from the front where we were sitting all the way to the back. So it was grab a bite of pizza - BUZZZZZZ - go get salad - a few mouthfuls - BUZZZZZZ - one order of wings - this dance went on for a half hour! Who eats like that? Salad was warm, drowned in anchovy forward dressing and limp lettuce. Asked for extra crispy wings. Flaccid. Super bummed. We had to go back to place our order, get our own tableware, set the table, and then pick up the food... If we had known all this I don't know that we would each have left a 20% tip after ordering. Received more care and service at a DD drive through. Pizza itself was great - just cold by the time we got all our food and were able to sit still and eat. So... all in all - great atmosphere to grab a beer at the bar and yak or order ONE pizza so you all could actually enjoy it warm. Group each wanting something different or expecting food brought to you - not the spot. Just go with the right expectations and you will enjoy.

The parking lot is 'smallish' on the right side of the building and flows right to left in one direction, so be sure to look for the 'enter' sign. There are three steps up into the diner so be aware of that if you have difficulty using steps. Also, the restroom is tiny: like so small the sink is about a foot long by half as much wide, small. We stop in here on our trips out to Groton. Last visit we stopped for a late breakfast/early lunch. I ordered a coffee and it came in a nice big mug and is a mellow blend with a smooth finish. There are photo descriptions on the table of what your eggs will look like based on how you order it, so no surprises. What a great idea. The table holds napkins, hot sauces, salt & pepper, jellies, creamer and sugars. The staff are pleasant. Some are more chatty than others. There are definitely some regulars here each time we visit. The menu has lots of breakfast options but there are no substitutions so you may need to order al a carte or get a different 'meal' option and add-on an item. Just a heads up. They have plenty of toast options including English muffins. The lunch menu is a variety of sandwiches and burgers. Fries are tasty. Lettuce and tomato on your sandwiches are fresh. I can't think of a single disappointment we've had here. If you are in the area and enjoy a nice diner experience, stop in to Norm's.
