Understated yet courteous w/o grand gestures. Ordered the smoke trout fritters. Two words: do it! Then order the NY strip and lyonnaise salad (comes as one entee) Please order this!!! The strip was very well presented and cooked to perfection! The mushroom au jus was extraordinary. Really wonderful and seemingly overlooked Birmingham restaurant. I'd heard great things about Chef Trent Tisdale and what we experienced during our dinner was next level. The food was a nod to classic and hearty staples done in new and interesting ways with an absence of typical fine dining pretentiousness. The Southern 101 appetizer was a beautiful tribute to Sunday dinner potluck fair that so many of us grew up on; I'd say this is an essential order for any out of towners. My girlfriend and I had the New York Strip. Absolutely fantastic. Ask your server, ours was the amazing Seth, about wine pairings. I was a little disappointed by our dinner at Harvest last night, especially based on all the other reviews I read. It seems that it may have been an off night for them, or they need to step up their game. In either case, I plan to head there for brunch soon and write an updated review. To start with, it took a while for our server to bring us the wine list which is OK given that it was a busy night. But when they finally took our drinks order, they informed my friend that they were out of his selection of beer, and a few minutes later informed us that they were out of our selection of wine/ shiraz as well. All of this was a bit frustrating, but their small plates were delicious- we got their olives di cabra and charcuterie/cheese board. For the entrees, we got the Redmont burger, porchetta and cast iron rib eye and finished off with their gelato and cannoli. I'd say their food was pretty good, but they need to work out a few kinks to justify five stars. read more

This a great place for dinner! The farm to table menu is desirable to say the least. Nestled inside the Redmont Hotel, it's a hidden hen in downtown Birmingham. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The wedge salad is delicious, ask well as the fried okra. A great place to try on the regular and seasonally to try their new menus. We had dinner at Harvest this past Thursday. Harvest is the restaurant in the beautiful Redmont Hotel in downtown Birmingham. The atmosphere is modern and cool- sleek furniture in beautiful blue and grey tones. We were excited to celebrate a dear friend's birthday and were greeted by friendly server. Our server was seriously the highlight of the meal. She was sweet, informative, and doting. We all split the homemade hummus, which came with grilled pita. Delicious! After that, the food was average at best. We ordered the mushroom flatbread- it was fine; pretty much standard hotel bar food- nothing exciting or amazing about it. It was called 'mushrooms flatbread'- mushroomS, indicating maybe more than one type of mushroom? Nope- just cremini- your normal grocery store find. We also ordered the chickory salad. Again, average. Our friends ordered the chicken with risotto and the pork tenderloin. No one cleaned their plates; no one asked for a to-go bag. It was mentioned that the risotto was good, but our poor friend who ordered the 'tender'loin... she requested a steak knife, because the meat was too tough for a butter knife. She was then informed that the restaurant doesn't have steak knifes- WHAT?! Weird, right? We finished the meal with a chocolate bread pudding that tasted more like gingerbread . Most of our friends have loved Harvest in the past- for lunch or brunch- this dinner, however, was underwhelming. read more

My husband & I had dinner at Harvest after the Mercedes-Benz Marathon. Our server, Robin, was very attentive. We had the mushroom Flatbread as an appetizer which I loved; however, my husband did not care for the flavor of the cheese. For dinner, I ordered the bolognese & loved it. Just the right amount of pasta in relation to the sauce & it was not spicey. My husband ordered the hamburger medium rare. It was cooked medium but he said the flavor was very good. Came here for dinner during restaurant week with a friend and so happy we did! Overall we had a great night and really enjoyed the ambiance of the place. You can tell that the chef is super create and cares about each dish. I thought all the staff were very kind as well. My friend ordered off the restaurant week set menu and I ordered off of the regular menu. She started with the fried okra which had great flavor but the okra themselves were just tough. Maybe it was just this batch they had in were not young and tender but it made them a little hard to eat. We both loved our entrees, she ordered chicken which was falling off the bone and I ordered the pork mojo dish which was insanely unique and delicious. The base of the plate was a black eye pea purée topped with a perfectly cooked grit cake and then shredded pork that had been formed and seared all around and thennnn topped with a fresh avocado and peach salad. It was absolutely perfect. I would definitely come back and order this dish again! I visited on January 26, 2018 with a group of friends and was first excited with the décor and ambience of not only the hotel it's in (The Redmont) but also the restaurant itself. I reserved for 12 for 10:30. I did arrive early and there was no wait. Our table was set and ready for us. The staff and our server was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. I did expect for it to be crowded but surprisingly it wasn't, which I loved. I wouldn't think you would have to arrive super early to be seated quickly. I ordered the French Toast. It came with a choice of bacon (bacon lover) or Conecuh sausage and fresh fruit. I chose the Conecuh and was not disappointed! And I can't forget about the mimosas! SO good! First, I ordered a regular mimosa and then everyone decided to try the Cranberry mimosa which has become a new favorite flavor of mine. You won't be disappointed with this dish! And the price are very reasonable for brunch. Overall, this spot has been added to my brunch list without hesitation and I highly recommend them to try at least once whether visiting the Birmingham area or if you already live here. read more

On opening day, my coworker and I decided to get lunch at Harvest. There were plenty of good vegetarian options, but I opted for the vegetable bolognese and split a few appetizers. Brunched here recently and it was refreshing to walk in and immediately get seated! Ya'll know the brunch game is strong in Bham and the waits can be so frustrating! The renovations have given this hotel life and the interior is so chic! The mirror wall in the lobby is the perfect backdrop! Back to the food lol. The brunch menu is concise but covers all the brunch must haves. Hubs ordered the Harvest burger without the fried egg and bacon so minus anything brunch related! He said it was delicious so I imagine it would be even better as listed on the menu! I ordered the Italian omelette but asked for it vegetarian style. It was amazing. Well where to begin. We came to eat dinner and go to the rooftop bar. As the Harvest is in the Redmont hotel we entered and were directed to the right to the restaurant. It was smaller than expected but had a cozy feel. The tables were well spaced and we didn't feel like we were sitting with the customers next to us. We ordered a drink and waited for friends. We ordered the Goat cheese croustini appetizer. When it arrived I was a little disappointed I had asked for extra caramelized onions and did not get them. Oh well, sometimes the communication between wait person and kitchen is faulty. The appetizer was good however and it disappeared quickly. I ordered the Pork Tenderloin medium well (it's not often the cook has the skill to do this) usually it is overcooked. I asked for it to be served with potato puree and broccolini and was much abliged. My meal arrived and it looked good. The pork was cooked to perfection, a slight pink in the middle. The potato puree (AKA mashed potatoes) was delicious. It was not strongly seasoned so it didn't overpower the flavour of the tenderloin. The broccolini was also good but it had a slight taste of burnt broccoli. Portion sizes were on the smaller side and prices are fair to high. A lot has been said about the Sunday brunch. And after having dinner here I am definitely going to return for it. read more

I went to harvest with my fiancé and family for a post proposal celebratory meal. Honestly I was a bit underwhelmed maybe because of the moment is occasion which had just occurred when she said yes. I had made a reservation and given details that it was post engagement meal. I thought having known this and the prestige of the place they could have done something for us but alas nothing. I also found the service to be poor our waitress went missing a few times and frankly I don't think she wanted to be there. The food however was good. Being from Australia and knowing how good the lamb is from he or New Zealand I have to go for it every time given how infrequent it is on menus in the states. We've actually eaten here twice. The first was for dinner on Mother's Day. We made a reservation beforehand, just in case. That time, both service and food were exceptional. The octopus and shrimp carbonara in particular were divine. We had a great experience and definitely wanted to come back. We decided to go back for Father's Day brunch. We hadn't made a reservation, but we called ahead to see if there was seating available for our family of five. On the phone, we were told they could reserve seating for us at the bar. Perfect. When we arrive, the host lets us know that they cannot seat us at the bar because they were at capacity. We would have to wait twenty minutes for a table. Not a problem. We didn't have a reservation, so that was a risk we were taking. We actually were seated after just 10 minutes of waiting, but the table they gave us was for seven. I think they lumped in with us a guy with his mother who came in behind us. It was a little odd, but made me wonder if they would have had space for us available earlier had they realized we were just five. After ordering drinks and brunch, we got our drinks promptly. However, we had waited for 45 minutes and our food and waitress were nowhere to be seen. My dad went in and informed the host who went to see what was happening. It turns out that the kitchen never got our order. The host apologized and sent over a free pastry basket, which was nice and we devoured since it's 1:15 by this point and we were starving. Our waitress then reappeared 20 minutes later with our food order. I ordered the Italian omelette, which was delicious but I noticed was missing an order of hash browns on the side. I wasn't going to wait longer for them and informed the waitress, but told her not to send any over. My brother ordered the brunch carbonara. Again, outstanding. However, as he was eating he found a single shrimp tail -- no head -- in his dish. There's no shrimp listed in the dish, so this was odd. We're hoping it's a best case scenario of somehow a shrimp from another pan accidentally and not from someone else's plate. Yuck! We let our waitress know, and management decided to give us a 25% discount. Nice, but didn't really make up for the below par service. All in all, this was such a huge disappointment in the quality of the service between our two visits. The food both times was amazing (minus that weird shrimp tail) -- some of the best in Birmingham. But having your meal take almost an hour to be served and then finding food scraps in one of your dishes isn't exactly the best way to spend Father's Day. I'm not sure of the difference in service is because of he lack of reservation (a party who had one and was seated at the same time as us and had eaten left before we got our meal) or because it was an off day. I went here with a group of friends and quickly realized this restaurant is over priced for the quantity and quality of food you get. First, the beer recommended to me did not taste good and the waitress never asked if I liked it. Second, I ordered the kale Caesar salad which is $10 and did not taste like a Caesar salad. Also, it was a tiny salad. Third, I ordered the gulf catch fish which happened to be grouper ( a very common fish) for $34. My friends ordered the steak for $30. My dish was again small however the flavor was pretty good. The steak however seemed like a good size. Highly unimpressed! I went there for brunch and went in with high hopes after reading the reviews and the menu, but left disappointed. The omelette was the most basic omelette I've ever tasted. It was completely lackluster, just a couple eggs folded over with the add-ins just thrown in the middle. The steak and eggs were equally boring. The cut of steak was small and chewy, and definitely not worth the price tag. I ordered the eggs over easy, and they were bland with no seasoning. Our large out-of-town family group came for brunch on Sunday following a wedding in Birmingham. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and the food was perfectly fine. I do take issue with the waiter who rather childishly called out one of the younger members of our party after she (politely) complained that her diet Coke was not diet. The significant glances that were exchanged among the waitstaff over this rather common request were a little surprising, and I was even more unimpressed when the waiter proceeded to bring a replacement drink, tell my niece that it was from a different fountain, and then after she stated that it was better, triumphantly informed her it was from the exact same fountain. I mean, really?? If business is slow (and it was, which is maybe no surprise) find something constructive to do. Getting into drama with your customers is petty, and gives visitors a bad impression of your establishment and city. Plus, I'm pretty sure if a male member of our party had made the same request, it would have been handled quite differently. Bless your hearts. read more

Absolutely perfect in every way. The renovated hotel is gorgeous and the dining area is fashionable and inviting. The hostesses were friendly and seemed to genuinely appreciate our patronage. The bartender was attentive and made me the best Cosmo I've ever had while we waited on our last companion to arrive. Ok, three. I had three Cosmos. Ask for the Cat Head honeysuckle vodka in it! Our server (maybe Dakota?) was super knowledgeable about everything on the menu and made it all sound irresistible. And it was. The cheeses on the meat/cheese plate were the best I've ever had outside of an authentic French restaurant. At maybe-Dakota's suggestion, I ordered the porchetta. It was a pancetta-wrapped pork tenderloin cooked with pistachio and apple stuffing resting on an arugula and potato salad and topped with watercress pesto. It was on point. Satisfying but nothing heavy about it. My cousin got the filet over broccolini and caramelized grilled sweet potato slices and our friend had the shrimp linguini. We each enjoyed every single bite. We shared the Affogato (house-made vanilla gelato with an amaretto sugar cookie, all topped with Revelator espresso when brought to the table) and the Zeppoli (Italian donuts) with fresh strawberries and lemon curd for dessert and we were thrilled to learn that they had French press coffee. This was my first visit to this newly renovated hotel (so beautiful!!) and my first visit to the new hotel restaurant. I met a friend for a business lunch, and restaurant was cozy and quiet... perfect setting for discussion over great food. I had the Bistecca Insalata (steak, tomatoes, pea tendrils, lettuce, fig vinaigrette) and it was really good. The steak was cooked perfectly and I was super glad they smeared some of the fig sauce on the side for extra dipping... YUM. I felt like it could have used a little salt or acid to balance out the sweetness, but overall it was a delicious salad for lunch. I also had some of the chocolate peanut butter gelato as an after-lunch treat... I mean, how could you possibly go wrong with that? I only counted off a star because the menu is small... After reading a review of the restaurant week menu for Harvest in Birmingham Magazine, I decided to see for myself if it's all that. Not hardly. Upon gaining entrance to the lobby thru the main doors, the restaurant and bar is immediately on your right. It's a little discomfiting as there is no maitre'd or hostess podium so I stand by the bar until the bartender notices that I'm waiting. A staff member is summoned and I'm seated in a comfortable banquette at the far end with a view of the dining room and street beyond thru the mullioned windows. As this was about 1745 on a Sunday evening there are only 3 other tables occupied. I've had a chance to peruse the menu so, when my server arrives, I order. I choose not to go with the restaurant week specials and order off the main menu. None of the apps appeal, so I order the "Market Salad" and an entrée of house made pasta with shrimp. As my choices are on the lighter side I find a sparkling rosé from France on the wine list ($36) thinking it should pair well. The salad arrived nicely composed on a dinner sized plate. Underneath the greens are halved tomato slices with thin slivers of avocado. It's immediately apparent that the avocado isn't fresh as it's discolored and dark from exposure to the air. The vinaigrette is applied liberally. While an acid is an essential component that brightens a salad, it may also be used for preservation by pickling. Given the PH level of this dressing I'm pretty sure that I've put off any date with the Reaper by a substantial margin. My pucker factor subsides thanks to the bread serving and shortly thereafter my entrée arrives. As I examine the "fresh pasta with shrimp" several things become apparent. Firstly, the shrimp smells slightly off so I doubt this is fresh (as in never frozen) or even frozen product that's been well treated. The house made pasta sits in the bowl stracci della style. The chef has tried for pappardelle but this is far from that zip code. I must enquire - who in their right mind par cooks fresh pasta? Or, if not, lets it sit until it congeals? The sauce is mildly flavorful with capers but I cannot detect a trace of the allium family and the dish would have benefitted. And so, to the wine. I'd hoped that the modest price for a French sparkler might premise good value. It was not to be. The beverage manager has permitted an epic fail to enter the establishment. The Charmat process used to produce this bottle made the wine so windy it would easily overpower both sides in the current Alabama senatorial race. Were I to find this in a liquor store I'd open it the day before and drink it flat or petillant. At least the carbonation wouldn't get in the way of enjoying an adequate rosé. Service was polite, professional and prompt. My waitress (and I) are literally and figuratively at the end of the food chain here and it shows. Restaurant management should provide her the tools to facilitate the guest's dining experience by offering better food and beverage. I'm sure the average check would go up and serious diners would appreciate a serious effort. Nonetheless I applaud her efforts. Unless and until the kitchen steps up its game I cannot recommend dining here. read more
