When grabbing a bite outside of home a lot of the selections are usually fried. This restaurant offers a more healthy selection and when you finish eating the food, you don't fell like taking a nap; oppose to other meals you can eat that are heavy. I'll start with the positive, food is good, tasty and healthy! We've eaten here 5x , 2x before the pandemic. What gets us each time is the customer service. There are usually two young women at the counter, and the taller of the two is so rude. You feel as if they are doing you a favor by you ordering, she's usually on her phone, can barely look at you while ordering and overall makes you feel like you are wasting her time. It's a shame as this will be the last time we come here as it's been on multiple occasions. I ordered a salad from them with Ahí Tuna and it was delicious, the only reason I'm not giving them five stars is because the ahí tuna was a little bit overcooked but other than that I was highly impressed by how fresh their salad and veggies seem to be. Delicious salad with leafy greens, good variety of add ons, huge portion for the large salad and love they have a vinegar only salad dressing options for those on mostly plant based oil free diets, like me. I wish I had taken a picture because it was so beautiful. We had a few friends over for drinks and games and one of them offered to order food for us. She recommended the Better Gourmet after she was told about it at her kickboxing classes. She was confident they delivered to City Island, so we all agreed to take a look at the menu. The menu is fantastic. So much to choose from and a really nice selection of healthy options. I wasn't sure I'd be in the mood for "healthy" food on a Friday night, but everything presented itself as appetizing. My friend called to make sure they delivered and was less than impressed by the girl who answered the phone. Listening to their conversation was painful. At first the girl told my friend they delivered to the Island, but only in the summer (which makes no sense at all - that's the Island's busy time). After a complicated and heated exchange we gave up and decided to pick the food up. Ordering can be done conveniently on an app, but we found customizations to be difficult. It would have been easier to call the order in. When we picked up the order there was a place to park your car for pick up. There were instructions to call and let them know you'd arrived and sure enough the food was brought out to us. The food was lovely. I had a buffalo chicken wrap. The chicken was breast meat with a nice mild grill to it, dressed in buffalo sauce with a great kick, Romaine, and celery, all on a whole wheat wrap. One picky flaw was that the chicken was so warm that by the time we got home the romaine was all wilted and much more like cooked spinach. Overall a nice place. This place is close to the hospitals and it would be great to have healthy food options nearby but the food here is just not well prepared. I ordered a burger with a side of sweet potato fries recently. First of all, it took a very long time to prepare the food (no issues with that if it's well-prepared). The $15 burger came out completely overcooked and dry, underseasoned as well, but the worst were the fries. You can't even call them fries. They were a limp, soggy, undercooked AND burnt mess at the same time. I had to throw out most of them because the burnt taste ruined everything. This is a new place in the neighborhood. I must say it's very, very good. I did make a face, when they dropped off the menu in my place of business! The face I made, was like "yea right". But I must say, the food is delicious! The portions are of a generous size. The price is a little in the high side, but that is par for the course, when you eat healthy! So all in all, very well worth the price! We have eaten turkey burgers, which have ala carte add ons. We have had salads, which are pretty large! The pizza, was very good. (Quite a Read But Totally Called For) If I could give this place an absolute "ZERO STARS" I would. As a Member of Service I'm appalled by the egregious behavior of the store owner/manager Patsy Bulvilino. Back Story: For starters I'm 7 months pregnant. I patronized this establishment on my lunch break. Unfortunately while eating my salad a huge insect crawled and ran out of my container during consumption. Despite my phobia of bugs I was able to take a picture, record video, kill it and called the store immediately. I was engaged by staff member Maggie (very helpful and empathethic) who advised that she was unable to process a refund because there were no managers on duty they were at their "Zerega Ave Store/Restaurant". I advised Maggie that I would come to the store and give my contact information upon arrival. I also wanted the staff to see what I had just experienced while also trying to maintain my composure and refrain from regurgitating my food that could then possibly pose a risk to myself and child. Upon arrival she told me the manager was still unavailable to speak to me directly and that he would contact via text or phone call later....... Later ??????? Sooooo a whole bug crawls out of a customer's food container and you as a MANAGER/STORE OWNER decide to rectify a huge issue on your time is a complete slap in the face to anyone as a patronizing customer. I told Maggie that I would wait until she calls him directly and gives him my number to return my call. Now here's the kicker ...... 2-3 minutes later I received a call where "Rude Ol Patsy" then apologizes and offers a dessert or pastry on the house with a refund I have to wait to receive..... Common Sense .... if a live bug comes out of your food would you want anything from that place to eat, NO of course NOT. He then tells me that even though I paid with my credit card I have to wait 3-5 days for a refund. I kindly advised him that I paid with a debit card with funds already deducted from my account and that I would prefer CASH. Why not ??? It took less than 2 second to deduct from my account and considering the circumstances why would you not just give me the cash and send me on my way. He had the nerve sarcastically to tell me that's not the way it works sweetheart you have to wait. My returned comment was I shouldn't have to wait 3-5 days for a refund especially considering I'm pregnant and that bug sure didn't wait 3-5 days to crawl out either. So he then tells me his wife is 8 months pregnant. I'm sorry where does his pregnant wife have anything to do with the price of tea in England. I proceeded to tell him I'm sure when you and wife sit down to eat that bugs don't crawl out of food from your establishment either..... to then hear the snarky remark of my wife and I eat 5 days a week (could've swore there were 7 days in a week but I digress) after hearing that it was time "To Hang Up" which I did while he eas talking mid sentence. I paid the mediocre amount of less than $15.00 but it's the principle that you can't speak to anyone, anyway you see fit. Especially not a Pregnant Woman of Color !!!!!! If you can I would say take your money elsewhere. Totally not worth the headache and I hope this story allows you to scroll on to the next establishment to patronize. read more

I've been here a few times and have consistently been impressed with their efficiency, cleanliness, and organization. My orders always come out timely and the staff is friendly. I also appreciate that I can order online. I don't always get a confirmation, but they've never lost one of my orders! I've eaten here many times and the food is consistently good. It's made to order, which I really appreciate. I'll typically get a wrap, and all of the ones I've had have been good! Depending on the wrap, it can be a slightly dry (balsamic for example), but you can always ask for more sauce when ordering. Definitely not a deal breaker! The only things I've gotten here that I didn't really like were the PB&J smoothie and the sweet potato fries. The smoothie was mostly peanut butter, and I would have liked to taste some of the strawberry in it; I feel like it would have really evened it out! This is the only smoothie I tried. For me, the sweet potato fries are usually a bit undercooked. This may just be how they cook them - they're firm on the inside and slightly crunchy on the outside. The seasoning is good though, and some people like their fries that way. Overall, I'd recommend this place! Maybe order a side other than the sweet potato fries if you like yours a bit softer on the inside and crunchier on the outside. Great experience! read more

I found this place on yelp while I was exploring my healthy options. I was craving a salad and a smoothie and thought this would be the perfect option. They had a promotion going on of buy one get one 50% off (YAY!) I tried the Chicken Tex MeCobb salad and a delicious strawberry banana smoothie. The salad was enormous and enough for two servings. My dog was next door at the Vet with my BF. Only one of us could be in at a time and since I was hungry I opted out. I had ordered from The Healthy Kitchen via Uber eats before but it had been a long long time so I walked in and immediately was greeted by 2 girls. The layout is an open concept and their menu was written on the wall w/ markers. I was famished and was really happy to see the Chopped Cheese listed. When I ordered, one of them asked asked if I wanted a "bean burger" I said yes she also asked if I was vegan. Now although I'm not vegan, when the option presents itself I usually indulge and I opted for a whole wheat wrap too. Gave my name, paid then went to move my car. I returned to see if it was ready but they lamented saying it would be a little longer I said ok and left again. I returned to find my order perfectly packaged and waiting. I HATE tomatoes and on the drive home regretful that I didn't inform them of this, oh well. Arrived home, opened the brown paper bag, removed the sandwich, opened the foil slightly to break it in half and... ...I wish Yelp would allow voice notes. Typing about this chopped cheese sandwich is making me salivate. I was totally enamored by this wrap and ate every morsel, crumb and spec of it. SOLID LUNCH SPOT. I am not usually in this area but happened to be here around lunch time. I went on yelp and decided to try this place out. The food is on the pricier side (average for manhattan prices) but the servings are large. I ordered the spring mix salad. SO GOOD! Everything was really fresh and I had enough for two meals. Granted I wasn't that hungry, but it was enough for me to split it. On a normal day it probably would have been enough for 1.5 meals? I also got a smoothie. Stumbled into this eatery after a nice long walk on a sunny evening. So many choices and combinations of salads, wraps, and even plant based burgers. I was impressed by the amount of options. I ordered the Boca salad which included romaine lettuce, feta cheese, pecans, chicken and raspberry vinaigrette. WOW delicious chicken, it wasn't dry or rubbery. Though I paid for my order twice, I did not receive it. I called about the incident and the woman in the background began to say "why the fuck is she calling back, I'm not going to fucking help her, we're not doing this again". As she continued to rant, they failed to notice I was not placed on hold, so I heard the whole conversation. The rant continued, and then they hung up on me. Good, this my Bronx go to spot. Awesome place to eat. Freshly prepared. Normally you don't find these places in the Bronx more in Manhattan but it's good that we know how one in the Bronx. Service sometimes you might feel a little slow you can always call ahead your order and have it waiting for you when you come. Since I've gone vegan it's hard to find spots like these they'll make some of their wraps into vegan which is a nice touch. Awesome place. read more

Let me start this off with saying my experience with "BETTER" didn't even pass the ordering stage. So I can't say anything about the food because I never even tried it. If my experience with one of the "owners" (as he identified himself) was this bad... idk but in my eyes it doesn't really speak much about the place. I called the place to make an order for delivery, after getting my total I asked how long it would take... the guy told me it would take about 1hour then he said 45min-1hour then he told me - well it's kinda slow here so maybe that could be less, I don't know really. Then he tells me "well if you want your food it will be ready in 10-15minutes so you can come get it if you want it . (In my head I'm thinking " am I not calling for delivery?" if I had the time to go and place my order and come back to the office wouldn't I have done that... isn't that the point of delivery?) At this point I asked to talk to a manager. On comes one of the "owners" and I tell him what happened. He tells me - yea that's the time, I'm not gonna put your order in front of others - I told him I didn't want him to do that but if my order is done in 10-15minutes how do you leave my food there for an extra 45minutes before it even goes out? I was told it is what it is. Then I was told if I like I can cancel my order if I like... so at this point- Yes please cancel my order this is unheard of and I'm gonna leave you a bad review. I hang up the phone, call ends. - You would think it ends there- One of the Owners(same guy I was talking to before) calls me back and tells me he wasn't finished talking and calls me a DICK! NEW business owner calls a new customer a DICK...really?!?!
