I was having an issue with the removal of my heart loop device and needed to be seen, the office acted so quickly to move things around to get me in right away and before the weekend got here and more days passed. It said so much to me to learn that during my visit because it would have been so easy to just not make the 15 minutes needed but no, they made it happen and was even in contact with my primary care doctor to coordinate everything. That is one reason why I always have BayCare doctors, their system is linked, making it easier for them.

There's plenty of free parking in front. The waiting room is comfortable. The new patient forms are all completed online. You don't have to print out anything. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Once taken back, the staff worked like a well oiled machine. I went from station to station. I got an ECG, met with a nurse, a physicians assistant, the pacemaker rep and then (of course) Dr. Norris. He has a great demeanor. He answered all of my questions. He was knowledgeable, professional and friendly. The overall experience was great. The replacement procedure went uneventfully and the followup visit went smoothly, as well. I can definitely recommend Dr. Norris if you don't currently have a cardiologist.

He was her cardiologist while she was in Morton Plant. He was the first doctor we could get in to see after her discharge. (her primary doc retired and we have another week before we can get in to establish with her new Primary Care doc). She's having so much anxiety about having another stroke, frustration because the anxiety causes extreme fatigue and she's short of breath. She can't eat, she's not doing her therapy exercises. His response? "Well your heart looks good. That's all probably from anxiety. You should see someone about that." Not one iota of compassion or understanding. Just another arrogant doctor with a God complex and a "how dare you question me" attitude. If you're looking for a doctor who will treat the PERSON, not the organ, this guy is NOT it.

My appointments with him have always been timely (unless he's had a cardio emergency beyond his control at the hospital), and during our visits he's been very thorough, not rushed, and friendly. He has consistently worked to find solutions for me instead of just maintaining the status quo. If I could separate this review I would give it a 1 star for communication. Communication was awful. Doctors did not return calls to me while my mom (who has dementia) was in the hospital. Nurses did not know answers and would tell me I needed to speak with the doctor but I was never in the room when the doctor came. I had to make numerous phone calls to find out when she was being released because no one could or would call me. She was left in the bed all day one day because she thought she had to be and no one got her up because physical therapy had already signed off on her. The doctor that did call me said that she would be able to go home the next morning but it was two full days later that she finally was discharged. If your loved one is not able to take care of themselves, I would not recommend this hospital.

I have recommended several people to him over the years (he is not always taking on new patients, so check back regularly) and have had grateful communications from every one of them. One good friend that I had referred to him, after this friend had griped that his current doctor was just not that interested, complained jokingly that Dr Purcell was spending too much time on him and that his appointments were taking too long. If I had any negative it would be that during busy times (eg flu season) it can be hard to get an appointment with him, and they try to divert you to other Doctors in the (large) practice. Dr Purcell is the best doctor I have ever interacted with, in any field. PS: If you research him, you will find he is one of those rare family doctors who takes almost nothing (bribes?) from the pharmaceutical industry.
