We hesitated just a bit before trying this place, mostly because it's still relatively new and a few less-than-in-raptures reviews. But, Saturday night dinner doesn't always have to be a religious experience and I like to support local business when I can---and this immediate area could use a decent sit-down restaurant. So, "decent sit-down restaurant" is pretty much what The Heights is. As commented on elsewhere, a bit loud inside, but not so loud you couldn't hear yourself think. They have sports on the big-screen TVs in the bar area, but it wasn't like there was a frat-boy riot of noise going on over there. Some adjustments to the acoustics would go a long ways towards dampening the noise. We came on a Saturday evening, were seated right away and service was very good throughout our meal. The bread is REALLY good---obviously right out of the oven, crusty on the outside, just the right amount of chewiness on the inside. No hesitation when I asked for some more with my dinner (serious bread fiend here). I ordered the short ribs and my other had the steak sandwich. Both were good---the short ribs were tender, flavorful and a decent-sized portion (enough to take enough home for a small lunch). It came with a red wine demi-glace that was good, but really salty (and I LIKE salt, so if I think it's salty, believe me, it is). The mashed potatoes were good, nice and creamy and well seasoned. My other said his steak sandwich was good---cooked the way he asked for it, a nice horseradish mayo (he thought it just right, I would have preferred a bit more kick), good veggies and a high-quality ciabatta roll. The salad that came with it was just salad, but then, that's all they said it was and it was fresh and generously portioned. We shared the bread pudding, which was very good---just the right texture, moist, very tasty sauce, nice-sized portion for two to share. Still not quite as good as the bread pudding at King's Fish House, but still probably the best in this immediate area (and while we're on the subject, do yourself a favor and skip the indigestible gut-anchor they call bread pudding at Joey's Barbecue). The prices here were reasonable, around $13-14 or so (I think) for the short ribs entree. I saw the pork chops coming out of the kitchen and they looked good and other people eating here all seemed to be happy. Is this where I'll beg to be taken on my birthday? Probably not. Is it a nice local place for a decently cooked meal when I don't want to drive to Claremont? Sure. We'll be back, if only to give the pork chops a spin at some point. read more

I would have given this restaurant a 4-star rating, based on previous visits. However, on my last visit, I requested that my burger be cooked "medium-rare", and it was burned. I brought it to their attention, but I have a fear of sending things back, so I didn't take them up on their offer for a new burger. No other type of compensation was offered. I just wanted my burger cooked correctly. It would have even been okay if there was a hint of pink in the meat, but by their own admission, they way over cooked it. read more

Decided to stop by here on a sunday Sept 18 with my partner. Greeted and seated properly. The Chicken sandwich I had was pretty good and my partner enjoyed his also. We just had a problem getting service when we needed something. When I got the bill it was about $22. and some change. I gave the waitrss a $20and $10bill. Well while we waited for our change, she just kept walking by us and never got our change till finally I asked the hostess. She went and got it for us finally. I felt this girl who waited on us thought we would just walk out and she would keep the full tip. I would have actually tiped more if she would have brought the change back in a well enough time manner. read more

One of the worst experiences I've ever had. We had an issue with one of the drinks served - it was made incorrectly. The waitress said she won't return it because the bartender has been getting upset with her for returning so many drinks. That's not really out issue so we spoke with the manager. This was honestly the most bizarre conversation I've ever sat through. We received a 10 minute lecture from the manager about how the industry is changing and they'd close and go broke if they made every unhappy person satisfied. When we tried to speak he interrupted us saying "If you just let me finish what I'm saying you'll understand, ok." I was honestly in shock. He then said that he drank the skinny margarita that was made incorrectly and he said it tasted perfecty and that they use high quality tequila and maybe were not accustomed to that. Nice to have a place like this in the area. Good location for something like that, in the Colonies. We went there today (Sun.) for lunch. I had the Fish and Chips made with Halibut. I had seen a review saying how good it was. It was delicious! They give you 4 good size pieces of Halibut in a tasty batter. My son had the Western Burger and he said that it was juicy and good. The other things that were ordered were the Seared Ahi Tuna Salad and the Chicken Salad Croissant. All yummy. We didn't have any drinks but it looks like a good place for that too. Been here a few times, the food is of good size for the prices. When its slow the service is top notch. When its busy the service is still pretty good. The only problem is parking. If its busy you have to park far from the place closer to Target. And the place can feel crowed when busy as well. But other than those two things its a great place to get dinner. read more

The Heights has never disappointed us. This is our standard "go to" when our family cannot decide where to go to eat since the menu has a little of everything. We have done late night happy hour with friends and have always had a great time. The service is steady and helpful. We just celebrated our second St. Patrick's Day with friends in the backroom and had the same great service, green beer, Irish shots and delicious food. Like I mentioned, the menu has something for everyone on it and everything we have tried has been very good. The restaurant is comfortable and clean. This place always has great food and great service, except the hostesses need some costumer service advise. My bf and I walked in the door this evening for dinner and had to wait for the two hostesses to finish there non-work related conversation to even acknowledge us. And even then it was far from welcoming. Came here from out of town and went with family for dinner after a very busy day. The food was wonderful, we all had large salads, a drink from the bar and of course dessert. The Heights is neighborhood restaurant/sports bar. Clean and has a nice view of the valley but nothing special. It has a very high noise level and thus is not a good place for having a conversation or getting to know someone new. The food is alright, not amazing, but adequate. Overall a place to go to change up a routine, but not to go on a regular basis. Thus, my 3 star rating. read more

My husband and I had dinner there this past Saturday night on a friends recommendation! We loved it. Staff was very friendly, everything was very clean. The food was so so good and the drinks were very stiff and very affordable. My husband had the Top Sirloin dinner and I had the Ahi Tuna Salad, the appetizer was the spinach artichoke dip which was amazing! With dinner and about 6 drinks it was under $100. This place is a Gem in the city of Upland. Quality savory dishes with integrity , originality, and focus on ingredients. Friendly attentive staff, good wine selection. As good as any top restaurant in the Zagat top 30, as far as the food deliciousness goes, and I should know as I've spent a lot of time in Manhattan with my trusty Zagat guide back in the day. Been coming to the bar portion of this place for years and always had an amazing experience. Last night was my first time sitting down in the restaurant. It wasn't crowded so there was no reason for the lack of service we experienced. We ordered 2 appetizers, a beer and an iced tea. Our waiter John brought the iced tea and a water and then we didn't see him again for about 45 minutes. Someone from the kitchen brought our food out (didn't catch his name but he was very nice and asked if everything looked okay, etc). We were 3/4 done with our food when John finally came around and asked if there was anything else we needed. Only thing missing was the beer I had ordered at the very beginning of our visit. John apologized for forgetting about the beer and said he was going to get it. Another 5-7 minutes pass by before he brings it to the table. By this time we were completely done with our food and I was full enough that a beer didn't even sound good. Got the bill with no expectations of a discount but I work in the service industry and the correct way to handle the situation would have been to remove the beer from the bill. Nope... beer and iced tea at the top of the bill which means he rang it in at the beginning and just completely forgot about it. Paid the bill. Very disappointing. This place has great potential by they need to retrain or rehire some servers. Shout out to Dre and Desiree for always giving a 5 star experience at the bar. Came here over the weekend for a birthday dinner and I really wish we hadn't. We started off with one waitress that apparently couldn't handle the large party so she was swapped out. The new waitress couldn't handle it either. Food was ok but many of the plates were sent back and brought to the table much later then expected. One of our guests had their food brought back in a to go box because it was so late. The bill situation was a nightmare! We asked for split checks in the beginning but they thought at the end would be easier to split which definitely was not. The manager of the place was the my biggest disappoint! Absolutely no respect! He came over when we were splitting checks and said that we were being difficult. I tried to get him to take a few items off my bill because they were not mine and he said that the items were ordered and if I didnt want to pay for them he'd call the police. He eventually got frustrated and blurted out that if we people wanted freebies then just say it. I asked for his name and card and he just laughed saying that I should call his boss because he would love to talk to us people. Luckily my daughter had a great birthday with all of being there so the night was not a complete fail. But never have I been so disrespected at a restaurant in my entire life. I want to start this review with the fact that this place has the best Happy Hour! Not only is everything reasonably priced but the food is Lit AF!! (If you know what I mean) came here for the first time a few nights ago, we have a little bit of everything as far as appetizers go. I have already been to this restaurant a few times and it just opened about a month ago. I think the beer/wine and entree prices are very reasonable, however the appetizer prices are a bit high for what you get. The first time I went I got the orange chicken and I LOVED it, the flavors were really good and the rice was nice and fluffy. However, the second time I got the orange chicken they served the rice all clumped together in a ball (I hate sticky starchy rice) but the chicken itself was just as good as the time before. The Thai salad is also really good, I like the interesting flavors. The appetizer chicken quesadilla was also very good, but I thought the price of it was a bit high for the amount of food that was served. The staff is also really nice. You can tell they are still trying to work out a few kinks (its also really loud in there) but once they figure everything out The Heights will be a 5 star restaurant! Just had lunch there. We ordered Coconut Shrimp as an appetizer looked BURNT, tasted burnt. The sandwiches were just ok, not outstanding. Because the place is all tile, very noisy, not a place for a quiet dinner/lunch as the bar gets loud & only a short wall to divide you. Service was good, friendly and fast. Menu is like a Mimi's only you can get a steak here & a mixed drink. Only sit down place with table service in the Colonies except the sushi place so what can I say? read more

I used to live near this place but every time I went it was closed. When I finally went tonight, I was told by the bartender that they don't have a set closing time. They close whenever. They have a 'Wine Wednesday' deal by the glass. Don't order from it. My glass of Chardonnay was from a corked bottle. When I mentioned I work in the wine industry and demonstrated all the reasons why the wine was off, he disagreed and said 'we sell a lot of this wine' which doesn't prove it is a bad bottle. I ordered a mixed drink as a replacement. My girlfriend ordered a wine that was supposed to be sparkling but it lacked bubbles. Didn't order food because it looked like a mediocre bar menu at best and the attitude of the bartender didn't lead us to stay beyond our single drinks. Shame because the atmosphere seemed nice and it is real close to family I visit weekly. Better service, proper wine storage, a more innovative menu and consistent hours would make this a gem in an area that needs a restaurant/bar like this. read more
