The Heritage is great for breakfast, & brunch! I recommend it for that. I once made a mistake of ordering a chicken salad sandwich and it was TERRIBLE if you have your own teeth!! I expected to get chunks of real chicken & I got chicken that had been put in a blender filled with mayo. It was pulverized into a bland processed food that was smooth; great for people who have no teeth or are wearing dentures. I like their tremendous chicken pot pie for dinner! I once wanted a gyro platter with greek salad. They got confused & didn't know what it was. Usually when I order a gyro platter, I can 2 gryro sandwhichs and a big salad on the same plate. The Heritage charged me for one gyro sandwich and a separate charge for the salad. I was not impressed. That is all I can recommend except their 3 layer carrot cake which is delicious! The staff are very polite & cheerful! If if you want butter & syrup for pancakes or french toast; you get it in little packets. The butter is hard if you are trying to put it in a pancake. I went to another diner on Mule Rd. where they give you soft butter and an entire bottle of pancake syrup instead of opening 3-4 of those troublesome syrup packets. I really like the owners though! If you are poor & hungry and tell them that, they will give you a free meal. That is really nice! The owners are decent people! They are also patriotic. The dinner closes at 7PM which I think is a bit early. If you don't mind that, it's satifactory. read more

Crab cakes were in place of the requisite English muffin, and the crab cakes were extremely fishy tasting - not like real crab cakes. Hollandaise was not good. This restaurant serves excellent diner food at great prices. The diner also delivers which is fantastic. Food arrives hot and they hire people who actually speak English. She's always so pleasant with a smile but whenever I'm feeling down she always makes me feel better by making me laugh and putting a smile on my face. They have good variety of breakfast choice, they are willing to make substitutes if you don't like what's on the menu. Silver heads being their main clientele they have a seniors special (55+). I played it safe and had eggs fries and toast ($4) everything was made really well. My family had the waffles ($8) topped with blueberries,strawberries and banana... never seen so much fruit put on top of waffles before... liked that. This restaurant is always our go "GO TO" favorite place. It is like being among family with such a friendly energy among the staff and the patrons but without having to do the cooking or clean up. We haven't been out in a while due to restrictions... But so happy to say that we went 2 weeks ago on a Saturday night and it was as great as ever!! The prime rib and the stuffed grouper our favorites were wonderful, as well as,our salads and their delicious rice pudding. I found myself in Whiting, NJ the other day, on my way back from Toms River. It is in the middle of the Pine Barrens, and appears to the landing zone for those Cocoon travelers seeking a place to be forever young. Maybe I hadn't been drinking the water, but everyone seemed over 80 years old as I searched for a place for a late breakfast. I found The Heritage Restaurant in the Town Centre shopping zone. More of the same in terms of customers. The top menu in the booth was the Senior Citizen Specials. The silver hairs were strongly represented. I went with the flow, and ordered a short stack of french toast and well done bacon, along with a mug of java. $7.50 for breakfast was a deal. Everything was quite ordinary. The toast lacked a vanilla flavor, but was otherwise okay. The bacon had been on the corner of the grill for a long time and was a bit too greasy, but, again, acceptable. The coffee was hot. No reason to come here again as I doubt that Whiting will become a regular stop on my itinerary. Still, if that did happen, The Heritage is a low budget old folks hangout that has enough food (if uninspired) for everyone. 2.5 Stars read more

To those that don't understand this area, it is loaded with 55+ communities so naturally the restaurants are going to cater to this clientele. Usually a Senior Menu is a short version of the basic menu but with much smaller portions and lower prices. The Senior Menu here is a short version of the main menu with lower prices but the portions were pretty large. We had breakfast for three people, coffee for each and with a 20% tip spent less than $20. This was our first visit and we were very pleased with the food and service. We will return in the near future Yes, there were a lot of elderly people in the restaurant. We live in a 55+ community in Whiting and every business here caters to the senior citizen. The food for the most part is good, and fresh. However, now they are uncharging for things like BBQ sauce and tarter sauce. You order the fish special and they don't give you tarter sauce. When I asked for tarter they said they have to charge you. At least the waitress told us that. The last time I asked for BBq sauce, they never told us and the bill had $1.00 on it. The fact that prices are also going up, and people here in Whitong can barely afford to go out, doesn't seem to make good business sence to charge for a condiment. Just saying to thr management. They've had the same staff there for as long as I can remember, so obviously they're doing something right. I had Chicken Asiago and my partner had the chicken Marsala. We came in on a Monday and they had a special, buy one get one half off, which included a full entree, soup and our salad, and dessert with the entrees costing only $12. I went there tonight and ordered a Cuban sandwich and it was horrible, unlike any other Cuban sandwich that I have had so I sent it back and then the manager came to talk to me and I told him I tasted it and I do not like it and he proceeded to tell me that he will have to charge me half price for the meal because I took a bite out of it a small bite because I didn't even like the way it looked so I said to him I'll pay it but I will never come back here again I have never heard of a restaurant charge you half price for something you sent back and I was going to order something else, but we left and I will never go to that diner again . read more
